Zak was extremely helpful, professional, and communicated everything clearly from start to finish. The checkout process was quick and timely, and he went above and beyond to explain things I didn't fully understand without ever making me feel rushed. Because of Zak's outstanding customer service, I'm officially a customer for life. I'm a co-parent and travel to Austin every other month, and Fox will continue to be my go-to rental company because of experiences like this. Please keep Zak around give him a raise, recognition, whatever you need to do because he is awesome and will absolutely continue bringing in repeat business. I wish i could give 0 stars but 1 is the only on Yelp. We booked a car through wisecars.com (car broker) and then they said we had to pick up the car from fox rent a car. It took us more than 30 minutes to get our car from the fox rent a car. First off, we reserved a Kia Sportage online and paid for it. However, when we got to the booth, the representative kept telling us we booked a Nissan Kick. And then, he said that car wasn't available either and that we can only rent us the Dodge charger which was a sedan. It newly saying is roomy and it would have plenty of space for our things. Which was bull! When we asked for a SUV, he said he had a grand Cherokee but it would cost us$20 more per day. It was so frustrating. He wasn't trying to work with us. I thought he was being rude and took advantage of us. We ended up taking the dodge because we didn't want to pay more. By the way, it wasn't roomy at all. It was cramped inside the car with the car seat, diaper bag, and me in the back with the baby. We were so mad. We complained to wisecars.com about our situation and they said they would email fox rent a car. They got back to us and said that fox rent a car actually upgraded us to that sedan. The price for a rental for a week was great, but buyer beware, they will try to get you to buy their insurance and roadside assistance, making you feel like it's mandatory, even if you have insurance and roadside assistance. When I realized this, I was told that I'd have to go and talk to the people where I rented the car from (there's no phone apparently). When I explained that it was a two hour drive, she said I could do it when I dropped the car off. They cant take insurance and roadside assistance off AFTER you return the car, fyi. I'd like to leave a minus rating if I could. I got a flat tire about 40 minutes N of the airport. No roadside assistance, to help at all! Roadside service number either rang and never answered or put me on permanent hold. I was able to get the donut on but I had to get a hotel room for the night and pay for the tire to be fixed the next morning. I don't understand at all any of these bad reviews. Every time I come to Austin- 1-2x per year- I ALWAYS rent with Fox Rent a Car and I've never had any issues ever. Plus my man Zak is always so helpful. He's big and looks like Steven Seagal and always extremely courteous and helpful. I look forward to seeing him in the booth whenever I stop by Austin. I book through Priceline and this place is always the cheapest and no issues with the booking process. This place is a total scam and their employees fraudulently charged my credit card with numerous add-ons in the hundreds of dollars that I did not agree to. To start, I rented through Fox using a package Priceline deal. Everything was paid for... Upon arrival at the Fox desk I explained to them I had my own car insurance and did not require the Loss Damage Waiver, Rental Liability Insurance, or Road Side Assistance. I did agree to the ATS plate pass that is needed for Austin tolls. I was told to electronically give sign my initials on a pad. After returning my car I received hundreds of dollars in charges and was e-mailed a receipt. On the receipt you can see they fraudulently cut my electronic signature of my initials and placed it on all of the boxes making it look like I agree to the Loss Damage Waiver, Rental Liability Insurance, and Road Side Assistance. These initials are clearly an electronic fabrication of the ones I used for the ATS Plate Pass.... the cut out initials even block the actual text in the contract. Multiple calls to their customer service line have been unproductive as the employees have told me "all charges are final." I was told a supervisor would call me to follow up, but have been waiting 24+ hours for that phone calls. I am not sure how a place can operate in such a scummy, scammy way. I will be reporting this fraud to the Texas Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission for deceptive practices. Zero fucking stars. read more

Don't walk, RUN AWAY! We had the most horrible experience with Fox Rent a Car. This company is extremely unprofessional and incredibly dishonest. They did not have the vehicle we pre paid for when we got there. Next they gave us a really dirty car covered in tree sap all over the windshield and front end with no washer fluid, brown sticky stuff on the seats and some purplish splatter on head liner. They then proceeded to charged us extra because THEY were out of our class of pre purchased car. As if that was all not bad enough, when we called days a head of return and tried to extend our rental for a few hours, not even a day and they charged us close $200. We've absolutely terrible customer service and rental experience. Do not rent from this company if at all possible. Stick to the larger companies as they have much better customer service, organization, communication and transparency. We tried to be supportive of a smaller, less known company and paid for it in every way possible... I'm still in shocked at just how awful our experience has been. Shame on you FOX. Absolutely the Worst Car Rental Experience I've Ever Had - Avoid at All Costs This place is an absolute joke. They say you get what you pay for and in this case lower prices also means horrible customer service, dirty cars, and cars which are smaller than what you reserved. My recent experience with Fox Rent A Car in Austin was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this company has no respect for its customers' time or basic service standards. First, the wait time exceeded an hour -- just to pick up the car I had already reserved in advance. My flight from Denver was roughly the same amount of time as my wait time at Fox. There was no sense of urgency, no apology, and zero organization from the staff. When we finally got to the counter, I was given a Nissan Altima, which was smaller than the vehicle I actually reserved. We decided to just take it to avoid any further delay, but when we tried to leave the lot, a woman from the counter started yelling at us, accusing us of taking the wrong car -- even though she was the one who handed us the keys in the first place. It was embarrassing, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, the car itself was filthy. It clearly hadn't been cleaned properly before handing it off. After waiting that long, being yelled at, and receiving a dirty, downgraded vehicle, I was beyond frustrated. Fox Rent A Car Austin is disorganized, rude, and unreliable. I will never rent from them again, and I strongly urge others to take their business elsewhere. There are plenty of reputable rental companies in Austin -- Fox is not one of them. Rented a car same day in the evening time through Priceline and had an okay experience. Location is convenient as it's easily walkable even with luggage. Person at the front desk helped me pretty quickly and I was able to get my car right away on the third floor after doing doing some damage checks. Return process was easy as well. Only 3 stars because when I signed the paperwork for the car the person at the front desk asked if I wanted the regular coverage for the vehicle or some sort of enhanced coverage. He did not say that this was optional coverage so I said that I wanted the regular coverage. He didn't mention any type of charge or additional fee associated with the regular coverage and later found out that it costed about 30 dollars which was more than the cost of the one day rental of the car. Maybe he didn't mention that the coverage was optional by accident, but I felt it was deceptive or at least misleading the way the options were presented. read more

First, I have rented with FOX rental car in Austin 3 times in the past six weeks. Due to an airline flight delay today, I missed my connection and had to get rebooked on another flight. Neither Fox Rent a car (Austin) or Priceline would modify the time of pickup. Instead they simply said the money is forfeited. All they had to due was adjust the time of pickup due to flight delay. Awful service. I paid a full week and they just kept it without providing a car. Last time I ever use either of these companies. read more

***update*** To summarize my experience with Fox Rental Car- they overcharged us, treated us like dirt, and rented us a mechanically unsafe vehicle that they then charged us for. Rebecca at the counter was rude. Chris at roadside assistance was rude. I had quite a few issues when renting my car from the Fox Rent A Car at Austin international airport recently. To start, while we were at the rental counter the woman overcharged us on purpose because we told her that we were going to Colorado with the rental car and she said we would need to pay an extra 26.99 per day for the out of state package- even though I told her I had called beforehand to confirm that we could take the car to Colorado. And on the contract it even says we can take the car to Colorado- and she (Rebecca) even acknowledged while at the counter that nowhere at all does it say that we can't take the car to Colorado. Hey here she was charging us. Before we even walked up to the counter I turned to my fiance' and said she was going to be a rude woman. Next up- Our car ended up having several mechanical issues, and even though we had the roadside assistance, they threatened to charge us for the tow if "nothing was wrong with the vehicle", and they told us they wouldn't get a tow truck to us for at least 8 hours. ON TOP OF THAT, they weren't about to send us a new car either, they were going to take our car from us to take to a shop and then idk what they wanted us to do next. Have no car? On our way to our wedding. The guy who worked at roadside services seemed to enjoy inconveniencing us, no joke. And acted like he thought we were lying about the car's error codes even after we sent him screenshots. Oh! He told us to keep driving the car even with the car throwing several warning lights, and he said that cars are like computers and sometimes you just have to turn them off and turn them back on again and then they'll be fine to go even though we told him we would be traveling to a remote part of Colorado that had no service and had very dangerous road curves- there was no sympathy. In fact it only seemed to fuel his rudeness towards us as if we were lying to him- which we would not gain anything from. Very confusing. The car was sputtering several times and wouldn't go above like 20 miles an hour. Also, it kept saying that something was wrong with one of the tires air pressure, so we went ahead and inspected the tire and added air, but the error code stayed the same. And even after sending the road side assistance guy the photos, he still didn't seem to either believe us or care even though we told him we were driving 30 more hours in this car. Crazy. This is the worst customer service ever. Worst car rental company ever. I was trying to call the managers who were listed on a piece of paper at the front office at Fox rent a car (I took a photo while we were there because we rented this car and immediately had problems), and of course none of the managers answered. We ended up dropping the car for them to tow back because it was extremely unsafe to drive anymore, and we rented from another car company nearby. Who worked with us and was just absolutely fabulous. After we finally got home from our long wedding trip- I decided to call Fox rental car and try and work with them because they did not refund me, and ended up charging me $65 to refuel the broken down car that we had to leave at Firestone to get towed- and they charged me for 5 days that we did not even have the car. All I asked was they refund me everything except for the 24 hours that we were actually able to use the car. The woman at Fox refused and told me she could offer me a voucher. I asked to speak with a supervisor and she said they will be in touch with you in 24-72 hours. Crazy crazy crazy. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone. I hardly leave reviews but felt the need to since there's tons of bad reviews. My experience was nothing less than amazing. I pre booked my rental through Expedia and then read through the reviews on here and was so anxious that I was going to get scammed and over charged, I was practically anxious my entire flight over to Austin. I'm 22, and this was my first time renting a car. I'm going to be completely transparent with everyone so you know what to expect. I pre booked day of through Expedia, super easy and actually really cheap ($100 for the whole weekend). I arrived to the rental desk at the airport. Was immediately greeted by a kind lady, and got my information and license. I was charged a $22/day fee for being under 25 (understandable for most companies and they state that on the confirmation email). Then I was charged a $150 deposit on my credit card (also stated on the email). My car was a new Nissan, super clean, no scratches, full tank. When I returned it I gave the lady my keys, she looked around the car, asked me a couple question and that was it. I was refunded my deposit the next day. Overall 10/10 experience read more

Sharing my experience from my rental from January 29-February 1, 2026. I reserved a midsize, which was defined as a Toyota Corolla or similar. The car I was provided was a Dodge Hornet, which is a small SUV. The check-in process was fine. My reservation was for 2pm. There were two staff members working the counter and maybe 4 customers ahead of me in the line, which moved at a normal pace. When it was my turn, it was 1:50pm, and the staff checked me in without any comment about me arriving early. I saw a lot of reviews about customers being charged hidden fees, but this was not my experience. I was asked which insurance I wanted to add, and they named 2 or 3 different types of coverage. They did not verbally mention that you have the option to decline coverage, but you do. I simply said "decline coverage" and they moved on. Next, they asked if I wanted to add the toll pass. I said no and they stated it would be a $20 charge for each toll I went through. I told them I understood. I avoided tolls throughout the trip and avoided those fees. We finished the check-in process and I was directed to the third floor to pick up the keys and car. There was no line there, and I was given keys to the car and a sheet of paper and pen to fill out any damage to the car. There were a few small scratches and dents that I noted and then returned the sheet to the employee. I went back to the car, turned it on, and this is where my issues began. The vehicle's dashboard indicated low tired pressure in the back left tire. I immediately turned the car off and went back to the employee to mention this. He dismissed my concern and said this is common in the cold temperatures. I didn't believe him, but I felt trapped since I had already filled out the sheet and didn't indicate this issue. In hindsight, I would have pushed back harder, asked for a different vehicle, and refused to drive the car off the lot. I came to discover that the tire had a slow leak. I found a gas station with an air pump and filled the tire back up. I inspected it for a nail, but didn't see one. At that time, I also noticed that the tread was far below the safe limit. Over the next three days, I was filling the tire up at least twice daily. In the mornings, the tire would be flat. I didn't feel safe driving in the car and I had to plan my day around getting to a gas station to fill the tire up. I was especially inconvenienced on the morning I flew home, because I had to fill the tire with air at 5am, prior to driving to the airport for an early flight. I've giving 2 stars, because the check-in process was fine and the price to rent a car was better than other rental agencies. However, the car was not in safe condition to drive, and I doubt that Fox replaced the tire before the next guest drove it. read more

I've been renting from Fox Car Rental for a little over a year now, and my experience has been nothing short of amazing, especially with the team at the Austin airport location. Maria, who works the booth upstairs, was the first person to really make me feel like more than just a customer. After seeing me a few times, she recognized me and struck up a conversation. One day, she recommended I try the Volkswagen Atlas for my next rental and I did! I loved it so much that I actually went out and bought my own brand-new 2025 Volkswagen Atlas. Now every time I see Maria with her tablet and big smile when I'm returning a car, it makes the whole process even better. Ron at the rental counter is another reason I keep coming back. He's professional, knows his stuff, and makes the check in process smooth and easy. Thanks to him, I didn't end up missing the toll pass. I had completely forgotten about it, but he made sure I was covered. And then there's Felicia in the booth, her fun, upbeat personality always makes me laugh and reminds me of a few of my (very likable!) family members. She gets me in and out of the lot so quickly it feels like I'm just walking from my own home straight into my car. Overall, I've had such a positive experience renting with Fox. I was told at the counter that returning the vehicle half full would qualify me for a 50% refund of the prepaid fuel charge. Before returning the car, I added about 4 gallons, and the dashboard gauge indicated the tank was above half. Based on the distance I drove that day, the remaining fuel plus what I added clearly puts the tank above half. Despite this, my refund was denied because their records said the tank was "only" 3/8 full. I had no way to verify that reading at the time. I reached out to customer service multiple times but never received a satisfactory response. I hope Fox Rent a Car clarifies this policy so future customers aren't misled. read more

I called Fox to extend the rental for 1 day and they quoted me an additional $115... FOR 1 DAY. I had ZERO intentions on leaving the hotel. After I hung up from them, I got in granny mode and dropped that car to them ASAP (took almost 2 hrs to drive about 18 miles). A few days ago, we were in Austin, Texas to get a car rental that we had reserved for the weekend that we were staying there. We get to the counter and the man told us that we could not get a car but we had to pay 500 dollars with a credit card for a hold for the card. Why would we pay a lot of money for a hold on a car that we didn't have? That is so stupid. He gives us a number. We call it but no one picks up for a while. And we were told that we could not get a refund. I'm pretty sure that it is a scam. I may or may not look into taking legal action against this company. This is so unprofessional and sketchy. I've never heard of Fox before, but I tried it because they had a car available when I came into Austin...absolutely worst experience. $80 For a Jetta for one day but the additional charges for The most basic coverage totaled another $156. And they're holding $500 because I used a debit card. Then I get to the car and the entire thing is damaged! Dents and scratches everywhere, dirty interior, and it smells. You get a card and you indicate damage on your own and then return the card to the desk, the entire thing was circled! I asked if I could switch cars and I was not allowed. I then drive the car and it drives terribly, and makes an awful noise. The woman at the counter who checked me in was so rude, and the woman at the pick up desk was also totally unpleasant. I normally use Sixt or Enterprise, this is what I get for trying something new. I will never ever use Fox EVER again. read more

My colleague and best friend has been renting from Fox Car Rental for over a year now. When he come in from out of state, he usually gets the larger SUVs to make sure all of us fit comfortably while driving to different investment properties. Recently, he told me about his experience with Zack at the front desk and how he was very pleased with how above and beyond Zack went to make sure you had a comfortable vehicle. So I rented with Fox on my Florida vacation. The process was super easy. The staff was fast and friendly. And I had a blast on my vacation with a Jeep Wrangler. Just wanted to give a special thank you to Zack and the Austin airport Fox Car Rental staff for making sure Andrew my colleague and friend always has a good experience. Prepaid through Expedia. I have a debit card with MasterCard on. It said he didn't accept. It said that I wouldn't get a refund and that I need to call corporate and I needed to move aside. Expedia tried to call him and he said I'm not answering that they need to call corporate. By the way, corporate closed so they won't answer. I asked if I could get a refund he said you cannot do anything you're wasting your time you need to give it up and leave. He said I will not get my money back. Also said that they were the dollar tree of rentals. This is said often when people are upset, but I really have never been treated so poorly and rudely in my entire life and I am late 40s. read more
