I called into this rental car company at the Austin, Tx airport to make sure the car we reserved was actually reserved as we were traveling out of town and our flight had us arriving after 10pm. Upon speaking to one of the rudest rental car agents that I have ever encountered, I asked about renting a car with an out of state Drivers License. The representative informed me that there would be an additional $150 on top of our rental car, even though we were using a major credit card! Upon asking since we are members could we get a lower rate or some of the extra fees waived the rental agent said no. The agent then insisted that I get there till package and we already have the national toll subscription which allows us to ride anywhere in the USA. So I said they could go ahead and cancel the reservation because, enterprise has better rates and they don't charge a $150 deposit when using a major credit card. Most rental car companies charge a 10% percent deposit when using a major credit card. The rental agent then had the audacity to tell me that I was making a mistake renting with them and that I could go ahead and waste my money for a worst car! And that I was making a bad decision. Steer clear of this rental car company! They are a mess and they obviously don't care about return customers ! Save your time and money and rent elsewhere. read more

This by far has been the worst company I have ever dealt with. I rented the car in Austin with drop off in San Antonio which is about 45 minutes away. At the time of the rental I was never informed of a $228 drop off fee. They changed me to drop it off in San Antonio as opposed to Austin. If I had been staying in Austin I wouldn't have needed a rental car. When I called customer service I was on hold for close to 30 minutes before talking to a woman named Ashley who said I would have to pay it. I told her I could have driven back and forth to Austin in an uber 20 times for what they were charging me. I asked Ashley to speak to her supervisor who she said was named Irwin and he was gone for the day. Ashley informed me I could call back but Irwin wouldn't be able to help me either. This company nickles and dimes people to death. They lie about their prices and stick it to you with no apology. This company needs to adjust their practices in some way. We arrived in Austin from Boston at 11am and were told that we had to go to a different dealership because they were sold out of cars. We had prebooked, and the attendant was extremely rude to us and the three families ahead of us. The company we were sent to only had two cars left and the attendant there let us know that Fox is always doing this to their customers. Supposedly their managers are always purposefully overselling. I will never rent from Fox again. As we signed out the car the clerk asked of we were familiar with the toll roads in the Austin area. When we told her where we expected to drive she encouraged us to pay for their "toll fee coverage" for about $12.00 a day as we would be incurring numerous tolls. If we did not pay this fee we would be charged $15.00 each time we passed a toll plus whatever that toll charge was. Being unfamiliar with the roads I opted for the $12.00 daily fee which added about $70.00 to my one week rental. Driving around it became obvious that there were very few tolls and they could easily be avoided by taking the Interstate highways. This was a total scare tactic. Do not fall for it. You don't get what you don't pay for and this place is no exception. One in at their service counter so they direct you to the second floor of the garage. They are the VERY last rental service in the garage, so be prepared to walk. You are then met by very unfriendly service agents who seem to think they are limited on the amount of words they can use. After you finally sign their 45 pages of paperwork they tell you to go check the car for damage and then bring the them the paperwork back. So then you walk all the way to the last car, check for damage, walk back to get the keys and then walk back to the car. While they do ask if you want to use the toll tag they don't tell you that every road out of town is a toll road. No please, no thank you, no have a nice day. Just threw the keys in the drawer and sent us on our way. So far the car seems ok but if you're looking for service, look someone else. read more

Don't use this company. We booked a rental through Expedia and Fox @ Austin did not honor the quoted price when we picked up the car. The phone # listed for Cust. Service gives a message that they are busy and then you get disconnected. The "manager" phone # my husband was given when he returned his car to dispute the charge is a verizon cell # that cannot be accessed. We contacted Expedia and they tried to call and could not get through . FACTS: When my husband showed up to get his car, due to his flight being delayed, he was told that his car was no longer available but they offered to put him in a different car at the same rate. Since he was verbally advised of that fact and because they were having computer problems and it took an out of the ordinary amount of time to get the contract, he did not realize that he was being placed in a vehicle at a higher rate with extra costs associated as "UPSELL", "CFC", "ERF" & "VLF". After finally printing out the Rental agreement and initializing it my husband was on his way not realizing we were being charged almost twice as much as agreed upon. Before I booked I read nothing about a $400 deposit for using a debit card. That is ludicrous, but I was told it was on the website. I reviewed all four pages of my confirmation agreement and no where did it say the deposit for using a debit card is $400. This is the worst rental car company you can rent from. You think you are getting a deal, but in fact they are a complete ripoff. I recently helped my son rent a full size car in Costa Mesa, CA, and he was given a 2014 model Camry, and of course it was not clean, their cars are never clean. Also, what other car rental company would rent cars this old. He was then made to believe that he had to take out their insurance since he was only 20 and 1/2 years old. They had already charged us $25/day extra for him being under 21. My total bill for Sunday-Wednesday, a three day rental was $306.20 plus a $150 deposit that has not been refunded after 5 days. Mind you, this was for a 2014 Toyota Camry. My advice, rent from one of the more well known companies where you at least get what you pay for! read more

Several hidden fees would not be a fair assessment. I purchased a voucher on line for $175.00, including taxes (or so the voucher said), plus a $28.06 down payment. When I arrived at the desk to pick up the car, I was told the charge would be $269.26 or no car. The attendant could not explain the difference but he said it was "additional taxes, Welcome to Texas". After disputing the charges, Fox refused to budge and honor the voucher. Fox is the most unprofessional, unorganized company I have ever had the misfortune to work with. I have been on hold for now 2 HOURS! The first time after an hour I was disconnected. I have been charged for items on the rental car receipt that are incorrect and absolutely absurd. I need to have someone reach out to me immediately to resolve this issue. I reserved this car in advance and did not get the car I was told I would get and had to wait an hour at the rental stand to even get into a vehicle. The vehicle was extremely dirty and had scratches and bumps all over the rude employee that was there basically told me to take it or leave it because I wouldn't be able to get another vehicle. Once I go to turn in the vehicle I asked to do a final inspection with the same rude employee who I pick up from. She said no that we don't do that and now I am seeing why because you are a snake of a company and are trying to charge me over $100 dollars for gas and tolls that I never agreed to. We reserved a car for MOTO GP through Kayak for the weekend. When it came time to pick it up, the front desk told us that they didn't have any cars to give out regardless of our reservation or not. So we went and got a car from enterprise because they seemed to be the only ones that had cars available. $177 is how much the reservation with Fox cost us. When it came time to get a refund, Kayak needed to verify that Fox had no cars available. When Kayak got back to us, they said that the Fox representatives never told us that they didn't have cars and that they would have upgraded us for free. However, they didn't. All they told us was that they had no cars so we left. So not only did we have to talk to three people about our refund, they said that they couldn't refund us our $177 because there were cars available. So they took our money and gave us no car. Had an issue with billing but Penny from Customer Service was exceptionally professional and efficient in resolving the matter.

1. The car itself was not really equipped to handle the Texas heat. This is a problem in Texas. Where it is hot. 2. The real problem was when we dropped it off. The employee who checked me in (at 7:15 PM on June 15, 2016) was absolutely miserable to deal with. I want to be clear about who I am talking about: there were two women working, and one man. The man (Oskar I believe) was helpful and professional, as was one of the two women (unfortunately I did not get either of their names). The other woman was aggressive and condescending. I had incurred a late fee of 25 dollars. However, of my 150 deposit, I was reimbursed only 80 dollars. When I tried to understand why the 25 dollar late fee equaled 70 dollars, she simply said 'yeah, turning a car in late is expensive.' Increasingly frustrated, I asked her multiple times to explain why/ how 25 equaled 70, and she only answered 'taxes'. Eventually, seeing my frustration, the other two employees came to my aid. While they were doing so, she AGAIN cut in to condescendingly add "I told him it was expensive." At this point even the other employees seemed frustrated, with one gesturing for her to calm down and apologizing to me. They then clearly and simply explained what the problem was. me It made sense, it was fine, it added up. Had the first woman simply told me what the problem was, rather than acting like I was a lunatic for wanting to know where my 70 dollars were, everything would have been fine. 3. Worst customer service ever. Rude as all get out. I asked for the toll package, didn't get it. Upon check out of the car I was told to let them know if there was anything wrong. When I went up to the little teller box in the parking garage, Janina told me that I was supposed to bring the form with me. Get your butt out of the seat girl and show some customer service! She had attitude all over her. She signed her name to it and said to make sure I showed them that when I dropped it off. Then when i dropped the car off Kristina was also rude as hell. Really upset that the employee lied and forced me to get the unlimited tag toll pass for extra $60 which is $15 a day.....As I was leaving Austin and coming back, I noticed I could've bypassed the tolls and my family out here told me I didn't need the pass. Horrendous rental service, wish I could give them negative stars. We reached the counter around 10 PM and we were the first ones in the line. Took 15 minutes to get the papers and we go to the rental counter on level 2 - there is no one there! We come down and let the person know and she says she doesn't know. Customer service is not available after regular business hours. We wait another 30 minutes and clearly all the others in the line are now annoyed as well. The lady finally agrees to come up and open the kiosk on level 2 (it's been more than an hour since we arrived at this point). I locate the car I was given, it has the keys inside it and so I ask her if I can go now? She says no and makes me wait because I was being "rude" apparently. To punish me she now starts attending all the other customers who came after me. And gives me the wrong key! I had to go back and talk to her again and get the right key!!!! Never again! read more

We had to return the rental car early due to a family emergency and they charged us $20 per day for the 10 day period we did not use the car even though they probably turned around and rented the same car within 1-2 days. They are a rip off for unsuspending visitors. Ron from the front counter, will sucker you into buying the Toll Pass, he swears it will save you a lot of money because the tolls will be $16 per toll. He fails to mention that the state of Texas gives you a grace period to pay tolls. So, I failed for it reasoning, I had to pay $71.94 for the pass and the $40.50 for Airport Fees plus the cost of the daily use of the rental car. Next time, I will not listen to Ron (originally from Ohio). I did even need to use the toll but two times. There was an African American female who also chimed in to persuade me to get the pass for tolls. Both she and Ron acted as if they were getting some type of commissioned for selling tolls. Lastly, Ron upgraded my compact to medium size because he liked military folks. The vehicle was dirty and I found candies under the seat, the back seats were dirty, once I got in the lighted area. They got me because it raining and a miserable day, they saw me coming. I got the car by using Priceline, I contacted this 3rd party, they said there was nothing they could do, this is how Austin is. This is after they quoted me a different price. I advice people not to get the toll pass, it is not worth, plus you have to pay taxes on everything. read more

Fraudulent. This is the only way to describe our interaction with Fox Rent-a-Car. We reserved the car via www.carrentals.com. While we were told online the rate would be $13 per day. The online reservation stated that our total fee should be of $249, plus insurance and gas. At the airport, we were shown a bill in excess of $700 - however, we were expressly told that this included a deposit that would be refunded, and that the total billed would be as shown online. After the car was returned (without damage), we were charged $555. In addition to the $22 per day for the car (instead of $13 per day promised), we were charged for a special airport fee, a vehicle license fee, a concession fee, a sales tax, and another tax that the sales representative on the phone could not even explain. I spoke with a supervisor about the issue. I was told that since we had signed the paperwork at the airport, we were bound to pay the amount stated, even if their representative told us that the numbers did not mean anything and that the online contract governed. When I brought that up (for the tenth time), the supervisor told me that Fox Rent-a-Car is not bound by the deals made online with Expedia or CarRentals.com. Do not use this company. What may seem like a reasonable rate at the outset will end up costing you much more. read more

When I arrived I was told they over-booked and had no more cars available and that there was nothing that could be done about it by the girl in the booth. No apology, no nothing just stranded at 1:00 am. This has never happened to me and was very inconvenient. Fox did not even bother sending an email or helping with other options. Terrible service... I reserved a small economy size car. When I arrived the agent suggested that since I was traveling in the mountains I might consider a six cylinder model for safety and better performance. I thought that was a good suggestion and agreed to upgrade. Well, the only thing that was upgraded was the extra $100 for the rental. I got a four cylinder and we struggled up and down the mountains all weekend. When I ask for a refund for the mistake they had made , they would only give me back 1/2 the money. I felt bad for tongue lashing the young man at the counter except that this is total Bravo Sierra. I addition to this the car smelt like someone had smoked cigars in it. The shuttle from the airport was packed during Covid and they were slow in getting us to the rental place on arrival. Bad experience and service. Last time I'll be using fox. I really thought that this experience with Fox was going to be a positive one. Everything seemed to go good upfront. I rented a car the same day I flew into Austin due to me pricing out Uber's in the city while I was visiting. Once I landed in Austin, the price for an Uber to my hotel was triple the price that I had been quoted previously so I realized it probably would just be best to rent a car. Went to Fox because they had no line (now I understand why) and talked to 2 gentleman. Jaden was the name I have on my receipt. When I got to the counter, I told the guys I needed a car and told them the times I needed the car... from 10:00am 01/13/17 to 5:00pm 01/14/17. When I had gone through almost the entire transaction and my card was still in the machine, he reviewed the details of my order. He said "Okay you're renting a car from today until tomorrow at 10:00am," that's when I stopped him so I could correct the time for the second day. He had already run the transaction quoting me for just the one day so I asked if I needed to remove my card so we could start the transaction over again. He said we didn't need to worry about it and he had updated the system. He quotes me at $150ish total with the addition of the time I needed on 01/14/17 and hands me my paperwork. I also opted to buy the toll thing to "save money," which is complete BS because there aren't a lot of tolls and also he quoted me WAY different times getting to my destination. He said it's 40 minutes if I use the toll road and 1 hour and 15 minutes if I use the other freeway going into Round Rock. LIES. Absolute lies. It only took me 25ish minutes on the toll road and when I returned to the airport I took the other freeway and it only took 35 minutes. These guys lie to get your money so I'd opt out of EVERYTHING they offer because it's a scam. Okay moving forward, the car I had was great, rode nice, good gas mileage. I brought the car back just before 5:00pm on 01/14/17, did a video of the car to show there was no damage, dropped the keys off and I was told I'd be emailed a receipt. Well, 9 days later and I hadn't received anything; no invoice, no email, no refund, nothing. So I call Fox and wait on hold, a very nice woman "Ashley" answered the phone and I asked her about the invoice and my refund. She ended up telling me they were only able to refund $60 out of the $150 deposit I had put down because I returned the car late. I told her no, I hadn't. I explained the situation to her and I realized that Jaden had physically written the return day and time, he also crossed out the incorrect return time of 01/14 at 10:00am and wrote with a pen "1/14/5:00pm." Wowwww. This guy didn't update the system and also left no notes on my transaction. Luckily, the rep from Fox that I called was so sweet and understanding (and if I could give her 10 stars, I would). I now know to triple, quadruple check any invoices I get from car rental locations. So disappointing. I'm now reading about the toll charges and the class action lawsuit and wondering how this company is still able to get away with this. I don't know, TX, I kinda feel like we should start a class action of our own. People are getting ripped off left and right, it's obvious in the reviews. read more

After waiting online for close to 30 minutes while she took care of one other customer, I hand her my license and credit card, she looks on the computer and hands my info back to me and just stares at me. I ask her what the problem was, she says your reservation was for earlier today, we canceled it. I said "you cancelled my reservation I made for today?" I went to rent a car they told me over the phone they said it's going $190, when I arrived they told me it was going to be over $400 I told him I'm not going to pay so I decided to cancel. They agreed and said they would refund me the money. The reason for the review is because they didn't return the money and the guy who helped me was very rude and angry with me. I think he was being racist towards us because I'm a Hispanic and he was to and refund to talk to me in Spanish when I had previously heard him I wouldn't recommend it at all. I booked with Fox in Austin for a trip in March of 2016. I made the reservation because the price quoted on-line and confirmed in an email as including all fees was about $90 cheaper than any of the competition. When we arrived in Austin and got to the counter to do the paperwork, the price I was quoted for the week's rentals was almost exactly the same as the other prices I had seen, and the employee told me that it was due to special airport fees that weren't being included on-line. We should have left the Fox counter and gone elsewhere at that point, but I didn't have easy access to the confirmation email so we went ahead with the rental. We also were not familiar with Austin or the toll roads, but because we were spending the week in the Killeen area rather than Austin, we declined paying $15 per day for the toll plan. The guy working the counter said we could maybe pay for the plan retroactively at the time of check-in if it made sense to do so. There was not much car selection in our rate class, and we chose a Toyota Yaris rather than a mini-van. Upon inspecting the car before leaving the airport, we noticed that the area of the passenger side rear panel and bumper seemed to have pulled away from the rest of the body leaving a gap. I had to track down the one guy working the lot to try to get him to note it on the paperwork, but he told me that the problem happens on that model car due to the high winds they experience in the area - that it would just pop back in and we didn't need to note it. But it wouldn't "pop back in" for us so my husband then again tracked down the lot attendant and insisted that it be noted on the car's inspection sheet. FInally, off we went. On our journey from the airport to Killeen, we apparently went through three toll plazas - more on that later. The last couple of days of the rental as we drove various places sightseeing, the problem with the gap in the panel/bumper got worse and impacted out ability to drive at the speed limit (which is really high in Texas). We had to go slower because we were afraid parts of the car were going to fall off. We ended up putting duct tape on it to drive back to the airport. When we checked the car in, the lot attendant asked us if we wanted a printed receipt or email. I chose email. I had completely forgotten about the tolls we encountered on our arrival day, and the attendant didn't mention anything either. We happily left the Yaris with it's popped out panel and flew back home. I have in the last week received two separate invoices from Fox for the toll fees ($2.33 each) plus a $15 processing fee FOR EACH ONE. The first invoice was for one toll. The second lists three tolls, but one of the three appears to be a duplicate of the first one. If I hadn't looked closely at the detail, I might have paid for it again. However, that $15 processing fee gets your attention. I don't know if Fox's practices regarding tolls are similar to or different from other rental car companies that do business at the Austin airport, but whoever you rent from, be sure you understand your options and maybe check in advance to see how many tolls you are likely to incur based on your travel plans. From my perspective, the fact that Fox's internet rates did not match their counter rates and the fact that they tried to double charge me for a toll suggest that maybe their business practices are intentionally shady - bait and switch when it comes to the rental rate and then the customer gets gouged again on the tolls.. The three different employees we encountered were all nice enough, but the operation overall seemed understaffed. One experience was enough for me. I will never rent from Fox again. I ended up paying about $150 more than I had budgeted for the entire rental and the "no big deal" problem with the car impacted our ability to have a relatively worry-free trip as we explored Central Texas. read more

He did mention that if I had mentioned that I had a return flight then They would not have to do a credit check on me.. well to begin with the person at the booth didn't even know what she was doing, she couldn't answer my questions while her coworkers behind her eating Mc Donald's and chatting away. When we were trying to return the car, I didn't have my contract with me. They claimed that because their record didn't show that I purchased pre-paid fuel option, I am responsible for sixty something dollars because I didn't fill up the gas. We didn't have much time for our flight and our baby started crying, but they kept saying that I should pay for the gas. Great experience using Fox Rent a Car in Austin! Price was reasonable and I was happy with the car we rented. I give them 5 stars for their excellent customer service. After dropping off the rental car, I ended up leaving something important in the car and I didn't get the message from Fox until I had already gone through security. I was traveling with my son who has autism and I knew there would be no way we could go back to retrieve it and still make our flight. What did they do? They brought my forgotten item to security! So appreciative of them going out of their way to help me! I didn't get the name of the woman helping us on the phone but she was very caring and professional and she saved the day for us. Worst rental car company in the whole of US. Especially this location at Austin airport. I had a confirmed reservation with FOX for Aug 25th-26th for 2 days for a standard SUV. I made the reservation through Southwest website. When we arrived at Austin airport and went to FOX counter, we were told by FOX associate, that they have absolutely no cars available and cancelled our rental agreement with FOX. She said that we have to go from counter to counter of other rental companies asking for a car and there is nothing FOX can do. So we started doing that and finally got a SUV at budget and ended up paying $32 more than what we had with FOX. I asked FOX associate whether FOX will pay the difference as FOX did not full fill the promise to keep a car for us. She said "No". Frustrated we just left with the car from budget as we were very late for my son's appointment for which we actually flew to Austin as we spent ridiculous amount of time trying to get a car. When I came back home, I called FOX around 7 times and each time the associates were very rude and some of them even yelled and disconnected the phone while I was talking. They all said FOX cannot do anything about this. One of them said I need to contact Southwest and Southwest told me that they just provide this service as a convenience to help passengers and there is nothing they can do as they have no control over FOX and they are absolutely right. Read the reviews and take them seriously. I don't often post but after asking them not to include the additional rental insurance coverage they did. I went in trusting that the quoted price I was expecting was what I would pay since that is usually the case. It may have been my fault for signing but I had a conversation with the lady assisting me at the counter and she even told me that many others also use the credit card rental protection that I am using. I have a good travel card for that very reason. I was in a hurry to get to an appointment and signed the papers. I've emailed them and asked customer service to send a copy of my signed agreement to verify and they have not responded as of yet. On that same trip I traveled with a different rental car company and my quoted price was what I paid. Trust should be a priority to keep customers and this wasn't okay.
