Chef Derek and his staff have turned this place around in my opinion. The presentation of the meals, the options! Who doesn't like options. My favorite is the Chicken Fajitas Omelette is AMAZING! They also offer a variation of flights that will have you humming yum after every bite. I cant wait for the remodel. Clark street needed this change. I really don't understand the 1 star reviews. Clearly the place was going under for a reason. 4/5 times of going there my meal tasted old, their service was terrible. As Chicagoans, most of us understand that you will often face a hefty wait while attempting to go to brunch. Sometimes, you simply cannot wait. This is the perfect time to go to Frances'. I had walked by this Clark Street staple countless times, but had only decided to sit down a few days ago. Our waitress (Sara) was incredibly friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Even though we sat outside, our water and coffee cups were constantly being filled which was fantastic. As a breakfast sandwich fiend, I could not resist the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato) egg sandwich. My dining companion ordered the scramble. My sandwich came and was MASSIVE. Luckily, it came with a large knife to cut, but I knew this would still be a challenge. There was a ton of flavor and I loved the sourdough bread that the sandwich came on. I tried the boyfriend's scramble and it was super tasty, his addition of chicken sausage definitely added to the dish. I'm still undecided on how I felt about the breakfast potatoes. This is without question, the BEST breakfast/lunch spot in Chicago. There is not a bad item on the menu...I know because I've had them all. They have every flight you could think of. .French toast, waffles, mimosas, bacon...and they all are amazing. The staff treats you like family and most days the chef will come out to greet you. Perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or grab a quick lunch. If I had one complaint it would be that they aren't open all day. Honestly, I never have to come back here again after every server except one (Aven) acknowledged every member of my party. I don't think the new owner or staff is like that, but it's hard to tell. When people aren't honest, they show by deflecting & avoiding the question. By not being "clear" nor "direct" and if being asked the same question in different ways, trying to understand WHY AREN'T THEY GETTING THIS? You don't bring up drama about people you work with or patrons. It's unprofessional. If you're going to use the words sexual harassment make a police report. It's a fine restaurant if you like a lot of food, breakfast all day & really good soups. The whole situation when someone, the server who wrongly accused someone of sexual harassment when it's non-contact gesture though another person with 0 intent & no immediate response, it's important to note, gossip holes are really unattractive. Thanks for the years of service. This being the most visited restaurant after assaulted very closely to this location. I used to brig students here to practice ordering, socializing & paying for goods/service. Calculation cause/effect, reward in meaningful experience so I predict it will be remembered & that is all that matters when it comes to experience. If that someone ever wants to explain why they "think" a certain way, I'm still waiting since that's the whole purpose of false allegations & why A POLICY in place could be a good idea. What happens when a SAFETY POLICY is SHOVED IN A ROOM to IMPLODE? We're about to find out since this place is so different than before, I could go & see it so newly remodeled (no pickle!) or never have to return. We ordered pick up here. Received the order quickly, but half of our order was missing. Waited a long time to receive the other half of the order. It was incorrect. Ordered a full sandwich, received half a sandwich, and the wrong sandwich at that. The soup and challah bread were tasty, but the lack of quality control/customer service overshadows any positives and we won't be back unless business practices are improved. read more

My daughter and I came here for breakfast and it was absolutely amazing! The nutella pancakes had caramelized bananas and the eggs were incredibly fluffy. We also tried the french toast flight which was delicious. My favorite was the blueberry. The service was fabulous and friendly. Plus the decor is adorable. Their shakes are to die for but their customer service is so bad that I left furious. I went on Saturday around 330 and the place was dead. Everywhere it says the place closes at 5pm. I asked for a shake and a sandwich to go, bc I knew I wouldn't finish it all there and I was trying to be considerate /not wasteful. I was quietly getting work done on my laptop, food came quickly, and I paid immediately and gave the waiter a generous tip considering I basically just ordered food to go and didn't need anything else from the waiter. Around 430p there's only me and one other person left, and the waiters are basically hovering and glaring at us. I get the point, so a few minutes later I started packing up my stuff and I said to my hovering waiter "ahh I'm almost done" in a super courteous / empathetic tone. I know how it is at the end of the day, no one wants to stay late at work and I would never want to be "that customer". Anyway, He snaps back at me rudely, "yeah because were closed" and walked away before I could respond... like a passive aggressive lil B!$&@. This was at 440pm at the latest. All of their signage say they close at 5. Like I said, I ordered my food to go so it's not like they even had to clean up my dishes after me. I was stunned at how rude this guy was. If I could've taken back my generous tip I gave him I definitely would have. All he had to say was that they were closed/ closing and I would've apologetically scrammed. My husband came here practically every Sunday morning when we lived in the area and the only thing I really remember was their corned beef hash! Their corned beef hash was crispy and greasy! The food is usually greasy. The last time I visited (out of maybe 4 times) I found black hairs throughout my food. I was disgusted and asked to speak to the manager. Upon hearing my complaint there was no apology, but rather just saying that they didn't know how they got in there. I suggested someone's body and the manager stated they would look into it. The manager came back five minutes later and said they would remake my food and I said no. There wasn't a good apology or even a caring look. Known for their deli sandwiches, and was highly recommended by neighbors and friends alike. I went in for a Pastrami Sandwich with all the works sans the cheese. Ordered the Potato pancake as a side. The sandwich meat lived up to its hype, and the potato pancake was so fresh and flavorful. I ate them without any sauce/pairings. So fresh and good. They have been under new ownership accompanied by a new chef for the last (merely) 6 years. Deli-ghtful place. Excellent food. Really good coffee. Friendly, attentive staff, but very busy. All in a light, airy atmosphere reminiscent of a French bistro, Chicago-style. As a first-timer I wasn't exactly sure what the menu actually entailed. But the title essentially says it. And the two-sided menu they hand you confirms. The "Brunchery" is breakfast style offerings, available all day. Had the Spinach-Mushroom omelette with hash browns and it fully satisfied my breakfast cravings. In the afternoon. (Yeah, I'm weird. I have liked spinach even as a kid.) The "Deli" is for the variety of sandwiches on the menu, which I really didn't look at closely as I was in the breakfast mood. I've walked past this place a few times on the weekends, but never stopped because it's always so busy. We had time to stop in for brunch during the week and so happy we did! Even on a muggy, 85 degree day, it felt nice inside with the windows open. My boyfriend and I both ordered a skillet. The chef's son was there and told us his favorite thing on the menu is the cinnamon roll pancakes. We didn't really want to buy a third full meal, but right then, the chef came out and said he'd give us the pancakes on the house! A good breakfast spot, but a little too much money, also, can they call themselves a deli any more when they don't sell any cold cuts? I got their breakfast sliders which were a tasty, messy (especially since I got it over easy) breakfast treat. I got a side of their sausage patties which were also a good, but for breakfast, I think it's a little pricey. Breakfast almost cost 20 bucks, which I think is a little steep for breakfast, it's just eggs and potatoes, right? Service wise, our waitress was friendly but hard to find at times. We were the only ones sitting up front but the place was pretty empty so I don't think it was too much to ask if I had more water. read more

Very cute place but very unimpressed by the management, staff, and food. Our waitress was rude. I needed to ask three different waitstaff for ketchup before I finally received it. A large table that sat after us got their order taken a long time before my table and received their food a minute after our order was finally taken. We waited at least 20 minutes before anyone spoke to us once we were sat. The wait time to get a table was also twice as long as we were told originally. The food was nothing special. My meal was not as it was described on the menu, specifically the bread was supposed to be grilled challah and it came on regular sandwich bread. For the price, you could get better food and a better experience somewhere else. read more

I have walked past frances' over 100 times and it has always been "on my list". Well yesterday I had the opportunity to finally stop by for brunch and it was such a pleasant surprise! It looks like the inside was redone as it was very bright and welcoming on such a cold, dark, snowy day. I had the classic breakfast with 2 eggs, bacon, English muffins and diced hash browns. Today I was slightly disappointed. I went to Francis for their great reputation for booze and breakfast but left with neither. The shrimp and grits that were advertised were unavailable and the mimosas that I enjoy soo much weren't being served until 10am( which our server failed to mention). Spinach and mushroom omelette with egg whites was great and I enjoyed the fried potatoes. My buddy had crêpes they looked OK as well as a potato soup. The crepes looked small but that might only be because it was a side. I think they have La Colombe coffee, the coffee was good, and our server was very nice. She kept checking in on us and was very sweet. Overall, it was a nice place that we just stumbled upon. Would definitely come back to try that pastrami sandwich pictured on Yelp! How often do you walk into a restaurant and get suggestions directly from the Chef? I came to this location because I was referred by a local Chicago resident. Yes; I can tell everyone that this is the chef from the famous Batter and Berries. He owns the patent name and he is amazing. But that doesn't taste good. I am writing a review because I felt at ease. I tasted the slow cooked and flavorful sauce for my crawfish omelet. I enjoyed the nice surprise from the cheddar hash browns and I loved the mimosas orange juice, champagne ratio. The waiters are nice. Maybe the lunch menu is better but this was a waste of time and money! My friend brought me here for my birthday breakfast, as we were familiar with the Chef, and NOTHING tasted delicious. I had jerk shrimp and grits...the grits were both too thick and under cooked. My eggs were bland with some liquid still and even though I asked for feta to be added, the feta just sat on top in chunks. The jerk turkey sausage was dry and inedible and smelled of overturned meat. My English muffin came out untoasted. The biscuits in the Biscuit and Gravy were burnt on the bottom so the entire dish tasted like char. The potatoes in the skillet are served homestyle and they were raw in the middle. I was asked if I wanted green peppers and onions in my eggs(?) or in the hashbrowns. I chose hashbrowns, they came out soft with cheddar cheese glued on top and then the peppers and onions strewn on top of that. Like why? The only thing salvageable was the eggs over easy and the French toast of the week (*canned*pineapple upside down) that I ordered to go. Spent over $$$ and left hungry with a bellyache. HARD PASS! This deli has nothing fancy about the menu or the space, but it always hits the spot when looking for some greasy (hangover) food. I came here on a rainy Sunday morning around 12 for some brunch, and the place was busy but we were seated immediately. I ordered the 2 eggs with chicken sausage, and the bf ordered the skillet with sausage. The food came out surprisingly quick! Everything was piping hot, and we honestly devoured our food quicker than we should have. The meals were classics, nothing to complain or rave about. They have both boozy milkshakes and a bloody Mary bar, both of which I have not indulged in yet. I have heard good things about the brunch here, but I chose to not have brunchy items the day I went. Instead I had the Cajun burger, of which I am now a fan. The meat was ell cooked and was moist and delicious. The fries that accompanied it were great as well. They have some outdoor seating, inside it is much like a diner with a lot of wood, wodden walls, tables and chairs. They also have a vintage coke machine. Just went back to France's Brunchery on Clark. Their menu is fantastic. I LOVE the french toast flight. A real smorgasbord of flavors, especially the lemon zest. I love the open garage doors along the whole sidewalk. I noticed a huge espresso machine. Just my cup (of coffee). They have clean bathrooms, sidewalk seating, and killer mimosas. I ordered a skillet and what I got was watery and bland boiled potatoes (that weren't even remotely seasoned) topped with freezer-burned vegetables. Also, our server sat us, we ordered immediately and we didn't see her again until we were standing at the table trying to flag her down to pay. It was an awesome experience. I was a little apprehensive at first because it was so packed, but the 20 min wait turned into just 15 min. Once we got seated and settled, we were comfortable! The menu has a lot of variety and was able to accommodate my vegetarian preference. Kevin was our server. He had extensive knowledge of the menu and exuded an overall positive & helpful attitude.
