My review is based on an event. The service, the way we were treated, and the lack of professionalism from the manager was dispicable. Rude does not describe this woman. She is more of what you would call...a female dog. I personally believe the way you talk to people is a big deal, especially for a business owner. We were given a highchair. I flipped it upside down so that my baby's carrier could rest on it. It's frequently done in other restaurants like that. Karen approached us and told us we couldn't flip it because they've seen accidents with the highchairs that way and that the baby's carrier needed to be placed on one of the tables. I understood and respected her request. That was not the problem. But there's a way to talk to people. She could have been, "Hey I'm sorry, but we prefer you not to do that. We had an accident one time...etc". But instead we felt like we were being scolded by her tone. Karen tapped me and my husband's backs while we were eating salad and told us the number of our guests was off by one. Again, it was her tone. She said, "excuse me you have 48 NOT 47". Our family members sitting next to us asked what that was all about and they were shocked that she addressed it at that moment. Tacky much? Could she have addressed it in private, not while we were seated and eating? It appeared the salads had no dressing. As the bowl emptied, we all noticed the dressing was all at the bottom. Clearly the salads hadn't been tossed thoroughly. We had to ask the waitresses for more bread, but then we had to wait a while for them to come back with some. The wait staff wasn't very efficient with clearing salad plates away either. They sat in front of us for a while. They also didn't bring out beer or wine to our guests like I had requested at my consultation. I had to ask the waitress about it and she said, "oh I forgot". It was a buffet and the food was already on the table with lids but nothing was happening. A guest of mine asked the waitress if we could eat, so the waitress asked my husband and I if it was okay. What kind of question is that? Yes of course! That's why we were there. It's their job to run the event. Another guest of mine asked for more wine. The waitress pointed to the bottle at the end of the table and said, "it's right there". My guests also told me that they had to pass their plates down. Unbelievable. And I'm paying gratuity for this. After dinner, plates sat at the table (again). I asked the waitress if we could box the leftover food up to take home. She said we could only take the extra food home if we were below our quota. So I asked what do you do with the food and she said, "We toss it, yeah, I know, it's terrible". What?! Regardless if I was off by one guest prior to the event or had the exact number of guests attend as noted, it was corrected and I paid for the food. I even had a 2 year old who ate a piece of bread and some noodles, but he was calculated of course. I was in touch with Karen the whole week about my event's attendance. I apologize that I was off by one guest the day of. It was not intentional. I ran outside to my car to get something, and the waitress was outside smoking and said "oh we have food for you". So I wound up getting some, but not all of it. In the beginning, the waitresses told me they place the dessert on the table after the food is taken away and bring coffee out. Well nothing was happening after they took the food away, so I took it upon myself to move the desserts over to the table. Again, we just waited for them to bring out coffee, tea and plates so people could start having them. Two days later, my mom and I went back to Franco Di Roma to talk to Karen about our experience. The first thing she said was, "What's the problem, I thought everything went well. We had 4 waitstaff". Our first concern was that they had charged us for 9 children, but I had more children there. The other children were charged as adults. They begin charging children at age 1 (which is robbery) and children go to age 8. BUT apparently it is in the contract, which I signed, so I am at fault. But to determine ages, they said they went around to each child and asked them their age. I feel that is beyond mortifying. I then went to explain how the salads had no dressing except at the very bottom of the bowl. She explained how they put the salads into the bowl, layer by layer, but that WE are suppose to mix it. We expressed more of our disappointment with the service but there was no apology, mend, or empathy for this experience. She stuck to her reasoning for everything. For a woman who has RBF and is in fact one, she had the audacity to call my mother disrespectful. Please save yourself from an experience like mine and book your next event anywhere else. This woman Karen is unbelievable. She claims she has been doing this for 17 years without a complaint. I must really be the loon here if that's the case read more

I had been a patron of franco diroma for sometime now but after having attended a reception luncheon there I saw first hand what really goes on and have lost respect for this establishment. You may not see the lack of professionalism when you are a carry out customer but to be inside the establishment for a reception you will see. The manager is a very rude woman. Her demeanor and attitude was very noticable to the hosts and I was taken back at what I saw. The waitstaff did a poor job runningi the event too. There was a lot of waiting around for plates to be taken away, for refills, and to eat. Our table was looking for salad dressing because the salad was bare. I had asked for more wine and the waitress pointed to the bottle at the end of the table and said its right there. I assumed she wanted me to pour it myself. i was not impressed with the service. I will now order my work heroes and glutenfree pizza elsewhere. read more

This restaurant is absolutely incredible. The food is delicious and it is a great family spot. My mom and I were booking restaurants on Labor day, hoping to have a family dinner in remembrance of my grandmother who passed away this week. Many restaurants were closed because of the holiday and did not allow a crowd due to the pandemic, but Franco Di Roma opened their doors for us, despite being closed, and allowed us to all be together. Everyone was so loving and kind during our time of grieving and the food was spectacular. The owner even made it possible for us to have a special dinner request; a slice of pizza for each person because that was my grandmother's favorite food. Thank you to Franco Di Roma for making our dinner so special and having our family together. This place is so special and the owner is awesome!!! read more

Franco Di Roma is, by far, the best pizza I've ever had. My daughter wanted to have her 10th birthday diner there. Keep in mind, this was not a booked "party". We came in with a group of TEN unannounced! He allowed us to bring in a cake and he even hid the presents in the back for us to surprise her with after our meal. One of the gifts was a new guitar, which he then encouraged her to play! She strummed away "Ode to Joy" and, while other customers dined beside us, he and his staff placed dollar bills and coins in her guitar case. She felt like a star that night. Truly a memorable experience our family will NEVER forget! The family friendly atmosphere will keep us coming back time after time! His staff is patient, accommodating and wonderful. Sounds like Kristen S. needs a hug. Let's get real......my family has been getting cuisine from Franco since his days at the old place near Shoprite. The pizza has always been first rate, never burnt. Furthermore, even the steaks are cooked to order and delicious as is virtually every other dish there. Franco is a gentleman who puts his heart into his wonderful resaurant. We will continue to dine here as this is a restaurant which is here to stay. The service and atmosphere is great here as well. Sure you can come in and order some garlic knots and a pizza but you would be a fool not to take advantage of the complete dining experience available by this wonderful family at Franco's. read more

The place was beautifully renovated, the menu was fine, the dishes were served perfectly and by a great personality waiter, second time was very nice. All the restaurants are struggling right now for many reasons, the economy is bad, COVID alone shut dow many not to mention high food cost. If the menu wasn't condensed while all these problems exist none would make it, Franco and his lovely wife are doing there best to please everybody so let's go in and support a local family that grew up here and raised his family here and stayed here. Everything is great! My husband and I have been going for years. They have a good variety of made-to-order meals, from pizza to zuppa di pesce. This is by far the best Italian food in Middletown. The staff is always friendly, and I love that it's family owned. I highly recommend FDR. read more
