I had high hopes for a restaurant from a Michelin-starred chef, but unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing. We were a party of four with reservations on a Friday night and were looking forward to a relaxed evening and a great meal. After ordering drinks, we asked for a few minutes to look over the menu. When our server returned, we were ready to order appetizers but hadn't yet decided on our entrées. She told us she would prefer to take our entire order at once. We explained that we prefer to order appetizers first and take our time deciding on the main course. She left and returned later, and when we still weren't ready to order entrées, we again asked to place our appetizer order. The insistence on taking the entire order at once made us feel rushed and was an unnecessary distraction from what should have been an enjoyable dining experience. Timing is part of dining, and guests with reservations should be allowed to enjoy their meal at a reasonable pace. The appetizers were actually the highlight. We had the bone marrow garlic bread, Wagyu meatballs, and arancini. The garlic bread was outstanding, the meatballs were good, and the arancini was very good. The chili sauce served with the arancini was especially delicious. Unfortunately, the entrées did not live up to the appetizers or our expectations. Between the four of us, we ordered two pasta dishes, chicken Parmesan, and a pizza. Neither pasta dish was memorable; both were fairly mediocre. The chicken Parmesan was enormous but surprisingly tough, and the pizza was simply OK. For a restaurant associated with a Michelin-starred chef, we expected much more from the main courses. The restaurant itself is lovely, but the music was so loud that it became distracting and made conversation difficult. I also don't understand why a newly designed restaurant wouldn't incorporate better acoustics. A beautiful dining room loses some of its appeal when you have to compete with the noise to enjoy a conversation. Maybe they put more effort into influencer visits, but that certainly wasn't our experience. The restaurant was packed and had a great atmosphere, so we were excited to try it. My husband and I along with another couple in our party ordered the rigatoni, which looked delicious. Unfortunately, it arrived cold, bland, and worst of all, undercooked. Looking back, I regret not sending it back because for the price, that level of quality is unacceptable. We also ordered the Honey It's Thyme drink, which was equally disappointing. It tasted overly sweet and syrupy, like something you'd get at a nightclub, and I couldn't taste any thyme at all. The one good thing was the pizza. We ordered the pepperoni with candied jalapeños, and it was very good. However, when deciding on toppings, my husband specifically didn't want honey on the pizza. The server suggested having the honey served on the side, which we agreed to, but the pizza still came out with honey already on it along with more on the side. First visit here after the transition from Odds and it didn't disappoint. Started with grilled prawns and garlic bread, both tasty. The lobster cavatelli was excellent. While the chicken parm was nicely executed, it really needs some kind of accompaniment - pasta, potato, any kind of starch. Otherwise it's just a bit boring. It's the only miss IMO. The tiramisu is great but I'm telling you the olive oil soft serve is sensational. It's an absolute must. The cacao nibs take the whole thing to eleven. Service was attentive and knowledgeable, impressive considering they haven't been open long. A great date night option with a darker room, avant garde cinema silently playing on the TVs, and a fine cocktail menu. It's a vibe. I'm not impressed to see that menu prices went up 10 to 20 percent on some items in a matter of 2 weeks after opening. Sorry, but that is not cool. $6 more for the lamb ragu?? And $16 for 2 isn't cheap either, similar to Red Ash of I recall, but this place ain't Red Ash... We got there on a week day and they were already pretty full so we sat at the bar. Service was quick and attentive. Surprisingly, for someone who usually isn't a big fan of prawns, those were my favorite. Their sauce was addicting. I didn't enjoy the bone marrow garlic bread much because you could barely taste the bone marrow. Pizza and branzino were my favorite! Branzino probably one of the best I've had as it was well cooked and flavored. However, it was just a tad bit salty for my taste. Same with the pesto pasta, it was good but leaned on the salty side. We were excited to try Frankie & Margie's after hearing it marketed as a "Michelin star chef" restaurant, but the experience was disappointing from the start. My boyfriend called multiple times over several days trying to make a reservation and nobody ever answered, only for us to find out they mainly use the Resy app where reservations were already booked 10-12 days out. The host was also rude when we arrived. We were first told the wait would be 15 minutes, then after giving our number it suddenly became 45 minutes. We ended up waiting around 30, which would've been fine if they had just been honest upfront. When our table was "ready," we were awkwardly left standing there while it was still being cleaned, and the restaurant itself was uncomfortably hot the entire night. The food unfortunately didn't make up for the experience. The prices felt excessive for what was served especially with appetizers over $10, including garlic bread, and no complimentary bread service at the table despite the upscale Italian atmosphere they're clearly going for. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo and asked to add chicken, but was told they were "out of chicken," even though we could clearly see other tables receiving chicken parm. My boyfriend ordered the pepperoni and candied jalapeño pizza, which was very average and overly sweet from too much honey, with barely any jalapeños on it. What really stood out was how misleading the portions were compared to what staff described. I overheard a waitress telling another table the portions were huge and "family style" for 3-4 people, while my $24 fettuccine portion honestly looked like it came from a kids menu. Came here for my boyfriend's birthday and had such a great experience. The bone marrow garlic bread was absolutely incredible..rich, dense, and packed with flavor. It was one of those dishes you keep thinking about long after the meal. The lobster cavatelli was excellent, with perfectly cooked pasta and a delicious, well-balanced sauce. Super excited to try this new restaurant in Round Rock. Upon our visit it looks like this will be another failed restaurant in this cursed location. The host was the only redeeming quality, a bright eyed friendly woman in glasses. The fettuccine Alfredo was similar to soup, a few noodles tossed around with a slightly grainy texture. We had the bone marrow garlic bread which had a few specs on top of butter soaked bread. The drinks that contained lime juice were completely overpowered by the lime. Every drink we ordered was practically a margarita. The service by far was the worst, made us wait to be greeted and was MIA for a majority of our visit. Either our server had too many tables or just didn't care. The latter is more likely considering we saw her on her cell phone at the host stand while we were waiting to order. I grew up in an italian neighborhood in the midwest, so when an italian place opens up anywhere near my general vicinity i feel it my duty to try it out. First things first, they are located in a strip mall next door to a "card club" parking on a saturday evening was a tad challenging. Reservations (at least on the weekend) are a must, we had one and watched another couple be turned away. Ambiance is okay -the vibe was sort of 1950s upscale italian nightclub (subway tile, bathroom wallpaper is worth checking out) red curtains. tables seemed crowded and a two top is tiny if you are really wanting to try stuff. Hostess was excellent. Waitress was not attentive, seemed to be phoning in and they have someone else bring out entrees so if there is a problem there's the potential for a disconnect there to get the situation remedied. We order cocktails, sparkling water, appetizer, 2 entrees and dessert. Cocktails were great, wish server would of been back to inquire about second round. Poured our own water. Prawn appetizer was so so, not fresh. Entrees were good (vodka rigatoni and steak frittes), could of used some bread with the pasta. Chocolate mousse for dessert - tasted good but presentation was messy and lacked that certain Michelin rated flare. Oof, I was so excited for this place because I have been constantly making of my pizza from scratch (including the dough and sauce) for the past few months OVER and OVER and OVER until I went crazy and wanted someone else's pizza creation for once this spring. Frank and Margie's touts itself as being from the same origins as Sushi by Scratch and Pasta Bar in Austin. I have a friend that used to be a sushi chef at Sushi by Scratch, and I've been to both with varying opinions from each visit. I thought this place sounded like a better concept than Pasta Bar which I've given a review for before. Unfortunately this place is a mess. There is no sign outside due to logistical oversights. The hostess that day is clearly undertrained. I had a reservation and had some whiplash answers due to some confusion, but hey, that's not a big deal to me. But sitting close to the host station, the confusion had bled into multiple others such as leading parties to unclean tables and having them backtrack. The service is pretty bad in general. Nobody was rude at ALL, but the team NEEDS TO BE TRAINED! Every time a dish came out, the person bringing it would forget what it was. I was told the pizza had 8 slices when it had 6. I would genuinely have the waiter say "and this is the....", set the plate down, say "uh....", and then walk away. Waiters would come and set plates down without taking away plates that are done and thus overcrowding the small table we had. Luckily the aqua panna can't go wrong. As for the food, it's pretty disappointing. The ricotta-stuffed squash blossoms were something I was looking forward to, and it was actually good! But had only two blossoms and the waiter took it away without asking before we even got to try most of the olive tapenade. Grilled prawns were good, but really needed something to accompany it. The pizza's dough was so thin, I actually was amazed at how it kept its structural integrity, but the taste itself was not satisfying and the crust wasn't good. Maybe over time the semolina residue in the oven would yield more residual flavor? My boyfriend even said I made better pizza! The standout was actually the desserts and the cocktail (The Last Word, somehow the only thing the waiter actually named without confusion). Whatever dessert you get is a no-brainer. The Margherita pizza was fine, the fried mozzarella sticks were average, the chicken parm was average, and the rigatoni was decent but nothing memorable. None of the dishes were bad, but none stood out either. The atmosphere inside is nice, although I wasn't a huge fan of the location. One issue that affected the experience was how warm it was inside the restaurant. It felt like the air conditioning wasn't keeping up, which made the dining room uncomfortable. Overall, I hate saying this because I was genuinely excited to try it, but I probably won't be back. We were seated at our reservation time, we sat in the front of the restaurant. Next time I will ask for the back, it was a little warm up front, maybe the A/C was on the fritz. We ordered the bone marrow bread, it was good, not sure I would order again, just to save the room for the main dish, but we wanted to try it. We shared the dishes to compare. Pesto Cavatelli ranked first, amazing flavor and texture. Rigatone alla Vodka ranked second, the sauce was good, no meat, pasta texture was ok. Roasted Salmon, third, just ok, for the price. Honestly, I never leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt compelled to share it. We started with the bone marrow toast, and the bread was burned black. It wasn't just toasted, it was charred to the point that it overwhelmed the dish. Both cocktails we ordered were made incorrectly. About 10 minutes later, our server took them back and brought the correct drinks, but there was no acknowledgment or apology. I ordered the lobster pasta, which contained little to no actual lobster and had the consistency of a soup rather than a pasta dish. My wife ordered the mushroom pizza, and the homemade sauce was surprisingly sweet and didn't complement the pizza well. I went in wanting to enjoy this restaurant because I love good Italian food, but unfortunately every course missed the mark. More than a week later, I'm still thinking about how disappointing the meal was, which is why I decided to leave this review. But from the moment we walked in, we were greeted by rude host who acted like she worked at the hottest restaurant in Tribeca. Once seated, service was SOOOO slow. No one came to our table for several minutes, not even to acknowledge our existence. Then our server Meera came and greeted us without any apology for the long wait. BUT, in a believer in redemption. Though annoyed, I ordered a bottled of wine and it was delivered by another staff and we had a nice conversation about the restaurant opening and how it was going. My friend had to take a call so I sat alone for quite awhile... again, with our server not checking back. Once my friend returned, our server finally came back to ask to take out order. We ordered our food ... arancini, Cesar Salad, fettuccini and the pepperoni and candied jalapeño pizza. Food not great. Idk if it was the wide oval plate they used but there was a to. Of noodles and the Fettuccini looked like it was missing some noodles. And I like al dente noodles, but this was less cooked than al dente. Pizza was SUPER greasy that we used three napkins to try to dab some of it off the pizza. Great crust though! "uh, not yours" without any apology. She took the food back then came out with a pizza box. Again without apology. At this point, I have zero idea where our food was, why it was back in the kitchen for so long (if that's where it was) and how many people have opened and closed that pizza box to see what it was. Needless to say, we did not take the pizza with us. On top of that, she brought the bag out and it belonged to the table next to us. We also had someone deliver the arancini where he stood at the table then proceeded to wait until my friend and I moved thing so he can set the plate down which was super awkward and he stated he didn't want to touch the food plates. Mind you, there were other things on the table he could have moved to make space (wine glass, wine, bottle, candle..) instead of making his customers move things around while he stood there. Weird male host. Attempted to check in and got ignored. Waited another 5 mins to be acknowledged. Yes, the restaurant was warm. It's very dark and there's a beam between the back of a bar chair and the table we were seated at, which caused both staff and customers to awkwardly squeeze in between, again and again. Cocktails were great. The bartender made a perfect martini (which I've found is getting harder to do in town these days). Elk/wagyu meatballs were like sponges and lacked seasoning - needed a char. Caesar salad was wonderful: Lots of lemon, perfect amount of dressing and topped with three anchovy filets. Bone marrow garlic bread was definitely tasty but I didn't taste much marrow. I came for the lobster cavatelli. They were out of lobster. Instead they offered a sausage pesto option. Chose to go with the lamb/mint/goat cheese pappardelle instead. Portion was tiny. Lamb was served in small chunks & was charred and dry, and I found that the red sauce lacked flavour. I hope the pasta was made in house, otherwise, sheesh. Both margherita and mushroom pizza were both very good in my opinion - Neapolitan style. Loved the crust. Soft serve was phenomenal - so simple and balanced. We went on a Saturday night and they were busy. The service was great! Shout out to Marcus! We ordered Wagyu meatballs as an appetizer and they were divine. The garlic bread was so yummy. I had a Strawberry Fields cocktail and that has to be one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Bartender knocked it out of the park. The chicken parmigiana was soooooo good. Food, drinks and atmosphere were elevated and impressive. There were only 2 draw backs: (and I won't even call it a negative) #1. I would expect chicken parm to come with pasta...not have to purchase it separately. #2. I think $16 for garlic bread is a little steep. Those little add ons could catch patrons off guard. Is it enough to keep me from going back? No. They could always adjust the prices when they've had time to see what is market in this area. After all, there are so many options for Italian food in this area. We had a great experience and I'm excited that we can have a more elevated option in Round Rock. read more
