We are not local but our son and his family live nearby. Frankie's is his go-to pizza place and considering Frankie's is just down the strip mall from a 'famous" Chicago pizza place, you know they have to be GOOD! Couple of things to know. They open at 4:00 pm. Be there then. At 4:30 pm, the place is crowded! Their staff are wonderful - friendly, fast, make you feel like you belong there. They have a spectacular oven and they can turn out pizzas pretty fast - which is a good thing since I bet they make lots and lots of them every day. We sat at the door for a 'to-go' order and had beer and wine while we waited. What we observed around us is a place that truly cares about its customers. This is a hard 4.5 star rating on its way to the 5. My first visit I wanted to grant the 5 star rating, although, I had to hold back to be fair. I know it'll be there by my next visit, which will be soon. A seller for me is homemade pasta with an option for gluten free. If it was organic it's a hard 5. No judgement though. Frankie's is the spot where you park up by 3:45/3:50 and wait for the doors to open as their hours are short, hot and sweet. This is a tucked away spot packing tons of flavor on the small menu(major hit). Locals pack this spot asap at the bar so be there by 3:45. Haha. The restaurant has nice decor and attentive friendly service. As the server comes to the table with heavy greetings, they run down the special menu. Drinks are always good, nothing intricate but enough to elevate the experience and hit hard. The appetizers are good. I enjoyed the calamari and shrimp as well as the octopus. But now to the star of the show is their pastas. FRIENDLY REMINDER, all are homemade. The Pappardelle w/ Wide Ribbon Pasta, Black Truffle Cream Sauce and Mushrooms is amazing.. I added the gluten free meatballs and yummy. A savory bite. The rigatoni vodka sauce(added sausage) was a hit. Another star of the table was the Linguine w/ Shrimp,Broccoli, Evoo and Garlic. A fully loaded plate. The Gnocchi w/ Ricotta Cheese Filling, vodka sauce.. added meatballs was another hit. The star of the show was our pizza which resembles a meat lovers with pepperoni, Sopressata and Giardiniera (which is more like a relish and I love). I've had other dishes but after multiple countless visits this is what I love at this time. The pizza is cooked in a high heat oven which gives the perfect char, let it settle for a couple minutes as it sits on the table. Overall, when in this part of Illinois hands down the place to be. Hours are only 4-9pm and that says a lot. My only insight would be ask for the bread to be served warm. I'm sure a fresh loaf in the pizza oven for a couple of minutes will go a long way. We love this restaurant so much!! I came for the first time a couple weeks ago and I've been back 3 times since. The food is so good (I haven't stopped talking about the white fish) and they do such a good job with hospitality. They make you feel like family the second you walk in. Frankie's Since 1988 - 4 stars: So, Frankie's has changed in a lot of little ways. It used to be called Frankie's Since 1988, and with the single word change of Est to Since the restaurant now has a whole new YELP review site ... but we can understand why that makes sense because the rebranding changes are numerous. The old place was a white-linen tablecloth fine-dining establishment, and now it is a very casual no tablecloth restaurant ... table tops are simple wood. In addition, the seating here used to be relatively limited ... a nice sized dining room and a bar, with a private dining room attached for parties and the such. Now the room divider is downplayed and it is pretty much a very large dining room with a three-sided bar in the center ... the room just feels bigger. The food was good. Portions have gotten a bit smaller, but the food was still very nice ... and the prices have crept up a bit. It makes sense with the more open dining room that they can serve more people for the money. We suspect that the old format was just too hard to maintain needed income levels, and the new rebranding helps rectify that. Biggest complaint is the noise. You essentially have to yell across the table to talk to someone. Now I guess the noise is a sign that everyone is having a good time, but with the tile floor everything just resounds around the room. Not a place for a first date or a romantic dinner ... but more of a place to have a boisterous time out with friends. read more

Wow, I had my very first visit to Frankie's today, and it definitely won't be my last! My server Alex was truly the best so friendly and attentive. I'm really glad I found this spot; I'll be coming back more often for sure. Everyone there, from the hostess to the food runner, was so welcoming and kind. The food and cocktails were delicious, but the real highlight was the Banana Cakeabsolutely amazing! This restaurant is a must visit; I know you won't be disappointed. I ordered catering from Frankie's Est 1988 for my daughter's baptism/birthday last weekend, and everything was absolutely amazing! We had about 78 adults and 30 kids, and we chose Package 5( and added 5 more people) which included Italian Beef, Frankie's Famous Meatballs, Char-Broiled Italian Marinated Chicken Breast sautéed in butter sauce with white wine, Italian Sausage, Pasta Primavera, Cold Pasta Salad, Rigatoni with Vodka Sauce, and a fresh salad. For the kids, we added chicken fingers and Rigatoni with Marinara Sauce -- which they loved! There was plenty of food for everyone, and the portions were generous. Delivery was right on time, and the whole process went smoothly and pricing always very reasonable. I received so many compliments from our guests about how delicious everything was. ***UPDATE , original review 2 stars. Tried leaving a general comment on facebook only to be deleted and not responded to on company Facebook page. So, on Thursday, August 28th, stopped in this location which we have been several times. After being sat at our table...backup, we arrived to a 10% filled space at 430p with no reservation. Was told one should have been made online with a smart tone. We commented that we looked at their page and could not determine that process. Now sitting for about 10 minutes, "NO" server approached our table. So in passing I stopped one and she said she'd find out who's ours might be. Returning and stating I guess she was ours. Appetizers were great but the serving on wine at that cost was less than other comparables like Cooper's Hawk and Francesca's Fortunato. About 25 minutes after we completed the appetizers, again, I had to flag down the waitress. I asked about the eta on dinner, she returned and said shortly. While waiting the room went from a mild tone to a very loud room including the eight woman sitting next to our table that were speaking and laughing beyond rude, like they owned the place. Everyone's meal was great except my was overdone and I guess I should have ordered Italian instead of a Filet Mignon. Here's the next "unexpected bonus", while eating dinner they started playing music....and you'd think they'd play something in the area of Italian. Well, they started with Motown and my Facebook questioned that I tried leaving was, I didn't know that Diana Ross & the Supremes' were Italian. Followed by what sounded like disco music....then Frank Sinatra music finally came next! My partner and I dined in last night and enjoyed it so much I convinced him to get takeout with me tonight. He ordered the classic sausage and I ordered the gnocchi stuffed with ricotta in vodka sauce aka 'pillows of heaven'. When I arrived the food was ready, I took it to my car and opened the pizza to take a photo when I noticed I had been handed a Margherita. I walked back in and the kind man at the front, Nina's son, told me I could keep the Margherita and he would go have the classic sausage made... what a sweetie! I had actually been trying to convince my partner to order the Margherita, because I like traditional italian pizza, but he wanted to try a classic. So, it worked out even better than anticipated. I'm actually grateful they made a mistake. :) truly, thank you, bc now I know how delicious your Margherita is, and so does my partner. Haha! I think it converted him! The pillows of heaven are just that, absolutely heavenly. If you haven't tried them, I highly recommend. They are soft and Uber tasty. I had a great meal at Frankie's restaurant and some of the best service that you can have. I picked it based on some great Yelp reviews and they did not disappoint. I had about a five minute wait for a table on a Tuesday night as the restaurant was full. They do have a very nice outdoor seating area as well. My server Travis not only gave me a quick run down of the specials on the menu he also gave me a brief history of the restaurant and where in Italy the flavor profiles came from. Ultimately I had narrowed my dinner choice down to 3 options and after explaining to Travis what I liked, I told him to pick one of the 3 and surprise me. A basket of Crostini bread was served with a small bottle of olive oil and some Parmesan cheese. I typically prefer a soft Italian bread and butter but putting the oil on the crostini and sprinkling the Parmesan on top was kind of fun. My dinner arrived and it was the rigatoni pasta with braised beef short rib. The tomato sauce was delicious and filled with chunks of tomatoes. The pasta was cooked perfect and the beef which was in chunks had good flavor. It wasn't falling apart like some short rib dishes are and you have to fish around to find the meat. The meat in this entree was plentiful, it was a very good dish. After I finished eating my server Travis was going table to table with Limonchello shots for everyone on the house. Had a great start. Drinks ordered and received in an appropriate manner. Ordered appetizers and again, no issues. While ordering main course, my wife asked for another wine and I asked for another myself. A few minutes went by and the owner brought and poured my wine. As he was leaving our table I asked "what about hers?". Didn't hear me?? After about 15 minutes or more, our waitress, while servicing another table gestured, as my wife had put her glass at the end of the table, if she wanted another glass of wine. I acknowledged yes. The wine finally came well after our meals had been served. I advised her when she brought the wine it was requested when our entree's were ordered and got nothing but a "sorry ". We then had leftovers boxed,(3), and were not afforded a bag. Upon leaving, another server noticed and asked busboy for a bag for us. He went to get one then returned saying our server would bring one. We were halfway to the exit before she arrived. Upon leaving we were given a see you again but advised we would never come back! We've been coming here for 10 plus years and have had some great meals and experiences over the years. The recent remodel looks great. It's way more modern but I just personally miss the family vibe they had here before. The food and service is always good. I had the Lobster Ravioli and it had decent flavor, not North End Boston flavor but it was good, just a little thin on the Lobster. My wife had a salad and the Chicken Parmesan which is her staple, she said both were great! It may have just been an off night but the size of the parm dish was significantly smaller than it has been over the years but I'll evaluate again next time we go. The bread was not good. Again, this may have been an off night but it's what it was, more to come on this as well next time. Reservations are definitely recommended as they get super busy but they did fit a group of 9 of us in so if you plan ahead Frankie's is very accommodating. read more

This review is long overdue because Frankie's is always a great experience! It's our fave place in the area. Mr. Frankie and staff are kind and master hosts. Ambiance is great and that gorgeous oven is magical because the pizzas are SO GOOD! Seriously, we have not had a bad dish but a stand out for me is their risotto, it's like a warm hug from an Italian Nonna. I never finish because of everything else we order and it reheats beautifully the following day. And their bartenders! We went for our Anniversary dinner yesterday, our server Travis was wonderful, answered our questions and made suggestions. The lobster stuffed ravioli with vodka sauce, pepper and sausage appetizer and pasta with meatballs and meat bolognese sauce were all delicious. Little over a year ago they changed rebranded redesigned and been some changes and rename themselves Frankie since 1988 We'd been coming here for a many years prior to when they close to change name it's been a while Glad to have came back though. One thing they changed was their fine dining and white linen to more of a casual atmosphere I guess if you're from the Chicago area you could say along the lines of La dolce Vita and Francesca's. They had a lot of room they didn't utilize and they opened it up very well for more people. It is a little noisier though people have noticed that but that's to be expected when you have more of a casual dining atmosphere. One thing that hasn't changed those to quality of the food The great servers it was awesome to see Travis again been a while. Glad when he was our server. We came in on a Saturday sat down had reservations were seated immediately and greeted. We had started with drinks I had a nice sangria red. And we ordered some appetizers the great caprese salad fantastic as always. And they brought out some hot fresh bread virgin olive oil fresh Parmesan cheese. It was very crowded and hot outside but the people who want to eat and dine outside still beyond me and those kind of temperatures but more power to them but they now have a real nice outdoor area if you're that kind of people. For dinner I ordered the lobster ravioli It was cooked lobster stuffed inside ravioli shells in a in a vodka sauce which was fantastic like always. There was some cheese sprinkled on top. Also sauteed spinach. We all had some expresso's after dinner and dessert. I had a gelato brown butter toffee sauce. One of the things the family used to love was your creme brulee it was one of the best around that we've been to with different places. It wasn't available but the good news it by demand was speaking to the on-duty manager in the fall and winter it will be back on the menu hey hey!! All in all everything was fantastic look forward to coming back again and more often if not with the family just with me. It's good to know even though you know that the noise level is going to be ratcheted up a little bit the music's a little louder but it was all Frank Sinatra for the most part so nothing wrong with old blue eyes. But compared to the old frankies yes it definitely is a louder atmosphere and more casual you don't have to get all fancied up. Bottom line new name little more noise less fancy more casual quality of the food it still Full bar five stars across the board. We are in town twice a year for reptile trade shows. I found this place in March of 2022 while desperately trying to get a reservation for a party of 8 the next day. They said they could accommodate us, so we gave it a try. Being the only place in town that had a table, I was skeptical but how bad can you mess up pasta?! We were all so impressed with the food, ambiance and service that it has since been our go-to. Now, after 4 visits - most with large parties - I feel comfortable giving them 5 stars. We did have one visit that was not ideal - two people at the table were unhappy with the way their dishes were prepared. I am now putting that to them having bad taste, because I feel like I have at least 8 dishes because I insist on tasting others meals as well as sharing mine. Last Friday there were just four of us. We started with cocktails and the grilled octopus on a bed of arugula and ended with Tiramisu, Sambuca and of course Limoncello. For our main, I got the ribeye, and it did not disappoint. My co-worker had the lobster ravioli, which he shared with me. The sauce tasted like the best bisque and makes my mouth water thinking about it. The service each time has been very good, even when we were a party of 8 or larger. The staff are professional yet personal which is a difficult blend. The room(s) can be loud with the bar splitting them, but it's never been too loud to converse. We will most definitely be going back in March! read more

One of my favorite restaurants and the owners are fabulous restauranteurs. They have a wonderful approach to their business and it is always a pleasure to patronize this establishment. The decor is beautiful both inside and outside. Being an end business in a strip mall gives some extra outside space which is beautiful with a pergola and cushioned seating for waiting. Angela and Frankie are wonderful hosts. Everyone was beyond pleased with the food. Our server Alexandra was so patient with our group of 6. We were pretty high maintenance and she was so accommodating with our orders and extra take home goodies of gardiniera, lemoncello and scrumptious banana cake. I can't say enough wonderful things about this restaurant and the food, service and ownership. Went here for the first time for my anniversary. The staff was very friendly and it was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday night. The mozzarella sticks and mini meatballs were delicious. I got the vodka rigatoni, some of the best I've ever had! My partner got the gnocchi with vodka sauce and also loved it. I had been here under the previous name but was willing to give it another shot. They were boasting new menu items and a reno. The new look was great! We did not have reservations, which we should have known to do as it was the first week of the relaunch but they were willing to accommodate but we found seats at the bar. The new layout is very nice and not as dark as it used to be. Comfy bar seats and the decor was great. We started with the app eggplant parmesan and it had the skin on it which I am not a fan of so it was just okay. I had the Rigatoni with vodka sauce and you have the option to add a protein and I chose meatballs. The pasta was cooked right and the meatballs good. Sauce needed some seasoning but that is a personal choice. It came with two pieces of bread. Next time I will order garlic bread to go with my meal. My friend had the pasta with vegetables and shrimp which she really liked. Not humungous portions but enough for us to take some home. The drinks were good and there was drink special. OK Frankie. You mentioned to me on Sunday when I sat down to dinner there that you read all of your reviews. Well my friend you had better take a seat and strap yourself in on this one. Frankie's Since 1988 is in my non-humble opinion the best Italian Restaurant in the greater Chicago area, Period. As my previous reviews state, "For 20 years I traveled the US on business with an unlimited expense account (it was my business) and I've eating in the best Italian Restaurant is NY, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, DC and even LA. The LA restaurants were easy to beat because I personally dislike with a passion (my sister tells me that I cannot use the word "hate" during the advent season, but read:HATE LA and every single thing about it. NFL Network and FOX Sports Networks FS1 and FS2 made me gor to LA maybe 20% of the time. I hated being there every single time. My daughter and her wife came in to Burr Ridge, IL from Renton, WA (Seattle) for Christmas and they just left me for my daughter in-laws more difficult planning and arrangements as she comes from yours-mine-and ours situation that is created by Divorce. Last yer we had them for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but this year on December 23rd, I had to say good bye. Before they left I asked them is they liked Frankies? Th ey both said, Hell Yes (they actually would never actually say that) but did embellish that bu offering that we can make this an Annual Christmas tradition and that while they are at it we can do the same every Summer when they make that sojourn back to Burr Ridge every Summer. Frankie's 1988 is literally that good. Frankie greeted us as he does ALL of his guests and I asked him directly to offer me an alternative to my traditional (Always ordered) option that is their Frutti Di Mare. Frankie suggested a couple of options and I settled on the Braised Short Rib over Pasta. Melissa our server indicated that Frankie suggested an upgrade to Risotto instead of Pasta (the kitchen staff is going to hate that I ratted you out on this risotto over pasta swap and it was.....very very good. I felt that I could actually replicate this very dish and rate it 4 of 5 stars. Maybe someone else would rate it 5 of 5 but not me and I felt I just might be able to beat this one. But the Frutti Di Mare? Never. Never ever. Same goes for everything else too. But I'm a foodie with mad cooking skills so, I'll be back twice a year Annually when my daughter and her wife come in. And then just sneak back in whenever I have a taste for the very best Italian Food, Service, Ambiance, and overall experience that you can possibly get in the greater Chicago area. Everything was scrumptious! The lasagna was delicious, pork chop was thick and tender, the steak was luscious and came with its own cutting board. Everyone was beyond welcoming and kind. Travis, our waiter was stellar and took care of us like family. 100% yes. Go and try it out!!! read more

We went for the first time last week. The burrata appetizer was good. I had the pasta with short rib it wasn't the best. My boyfriend had the pasta with lamb which was good. Service was slow but our waiter was nice. I would give this place another try. read more
