Runa Izakaya is one of those really good strip-mall sushi joints you find scattered throughout the suburbs outside of any urban area. Decent service and consistently decent product served in a clean and modern environment. This one happens to be close to home, so it's a go-to spot for us. They do offer a full menu here of Cantonese, Japanese and Thai entrees - which is nice. We've only ever ordered items off the Cantonese and Japanese menus, and they have all been above average. The pricing at Runa Izakaya is in-line with other area Asian restaurants, so there's really no reason to go elsewhere! They do a great job here with tasty food in a nice, relaxing space! read more

They have a large-screen TV at the bar and the few patrons that were sitting there were watching a football game. Their menu is extensive with so many Chinese and Japanese dishes to choose from. Their Thai section is limited. We ordered carryout: sushi deluxe which came with miso soup and cucumber salad, jumbo shrimp fried rice, and vegetable tempura. Everything was good. The food was delicious. I have ordered twice in two weeks when I used to only order ice a month because of the distance from my home. In the past they had some flawed points and the food was not great, but they have more than made up for it within this year that have started ordering again. Was looking for a place to grab dinner before attending a concert at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater. A sushi craving brought me to this strip mall. We ordered 3 rolls to share between 2 people and each roll was stellar!! I think it was the perfect amount of food; it left me satisfied but not stuffed. Nobody wants to roll up to a concert in a food coma. We shared the Godzilla, Angel Face, and Chicago White Sox Roll. If you enjoy cream cheese in your sushi rolls, then these are the picks for you. Each roll had such great flavor and textures. I believe there was a special deal on rolls for a Sunday as well, so we paid much less than we usually do for sushi. Last night we ordered pick up. I had the Mongolian beef dinner. It comes with chicken fried rice and an eggroll for $9.45. I thought the Mongolian beef was very tasty, I did not like the eggroll and the chicken fried rice was kind of blah. Also I kept tasting a weird fishy taste in the broth or sauce that was in the bottom of the container of the beef. My fiancé had the general chicken dinner. He liked it, but he also was complaining that there was a fishy taste, which was not pleasant. He also was not a big fan of the eggroll. I would give this restaurant another try though. read more

We really wanted to like this place after a poor experience during Covid that we chalked up to, well Covid. We were here on a Thursday evening. Not very busy. Our order was all off the sushi side of things. We also ordered cocktails, then beer and wine. I had the Sushi Deluxe, and my fiance had a couple rolls. All sushi was poorly assembled and sliced. My fiance's cooked roll was brought out, very late, on a piece of aluminum foil. It had scorched to the bottom and had become stuck. Her cocktail was very, very bad. Mint was a listed ingredient, but the whole drink had an overpowering flavor of listerine. My zombie had a similar problem, to a much lesser degree. Our server was nice, but inattentive. Ok for sushi rolls (so two stars for that) but tonight I decided to try the Green Curry. I thought they gave me the wrong order. It appeared to like canned Campbell's cream of mushroom soup on top of some strips of green pepper, onion and bamboo shoots. I double checked and they confirmed the order was correct , it should appear creamy white, they don't add food coloring. Although in my lifetime having several Green Curries in different states and countries --- even in Thailand -- I never had one that appeared like this ? Tonight for dinner, wife and I went for Chinese/Ramen. I ordered the chicken udon spicy. Was enjoying it until I glance something stringy in my bowl. I look down and it's a long hair buried under my noodles and vegetables. I did ask for a change in noodle though from udon to skinny noodle. I brought it to the attention of the staff member and they changed it out. P.S as we were checking out the manager or owner what ever he was, the guy at the cash register kept telling me his people all have short hair. And he didn't know where that came from. He took a glance at my wife's tied up hair, and I definitely felt the insinuation. Come on guy we never asked for a comp, discount or anything. My husband and I used to go here when we were dating. It'd been awhile since we visited. I'm happy to report it's still just as amazing. I usually get the chicken teriyaki bento box. The chicken is always tender with just the right amount of sauce. I adore the ginger salad so much I've actually purchased the dressing to go on a few occasions . The miso soup is also fantastic and perfect on a cold day. I dont like mushrooms or seaweed and I still love the miso here. I don't eat sushi but I used to give my California roll, that comes with the bento box, to my husband. - He approves. Today he trued the Philadelphia roll. He liked it so much he didn't speak at all he was so consumed with eating it. I also had the gyoza - came with the Ramen set ($3 more) beautifully fried and wished I got more. Today we both tried the Tonkatsu Ramen. I really loved the broth. First time I've ever finish a whole bowl of ramen. I do have to admit, the noodles were not my favorite. My cousin (8 months pregnant) got the spicy garlic and they were Very accommodating and made it meatless and miso only broth. She said it was a great flavor but just a tad spicier than she'd like (and shes a heat fan) she got the mushroom maki and enjoyed it. Clean. No wait to be seated. Can't wait to go back! Probably one of the restaurants we've been to the most since moving to the area. Loved their soups (hot and sour and egg drop), their Chinese entrees are very solid, good portions. When ordering takeout, it comes pretty quickly and as-ordered. We ordered their sushi last time (and had a coupon for 4 crab rangoon, which we get almost every time and LOVE... they're enormous, so comforting with nice pops of crab and the bite of the onion, highly recommend. A standard order is 6, but 4 between two people is the perfect amount.) The sushi came out in a good timeframe, but I didn't like that the fish was on the room temp side, borderline warm. It tasted fine, but I'm used to sushi being served quite cold, unless it's a fried roll. We got the Spider-Man, Orange roll and rainbow, all three were very tasty and we'd order them again. Service is always pretty good, although we ordered desert and had the check dropped off by a different server before we had received it. Our server apologized for it, no big deal! My friends and I decided to try this place out since we had a ramen craving. Spoiler: it was kind of disappointing. I ordered the roasted garlic spicy miso ramen, and unfortunately, it was lacking the garlic, the spicy, and the miso flavor! It was also lacking salt because only after I added soy sauce did it taste much better. The noodles also had kind of an odd mushy-ish texture that reminded me of the packaged ramen. The pork also tasted processed somehow. While the dish wasn't gross or inedible in any way, it was a huge letdown! I'm chalking this up to the fact that they have a million and one items on their menu and don't have the ability to focus on making just ramen or just sushi or just typical Chinese dishes. Went here with my cousin on 07/07/23 We were enjoying our food when a rat ran across the floor! Yes a RAT ! Immediately after another one came out. They both ran into a hole! I was in so much shock and disbelief I screamed and immediately notified my waiter. He didn't seemed surprised so I asked to speak with a manager. Someone then came out with a broom and swept in the area we saw them and moved some potted plants around!!!??? As if that was going to do anything. We both were so disgusted and dissatisfied that we asked for the bill, paid and left. They did not accommodate us at all! Please don't eat here! Happy hour sushi rolls are the bomb. I think its 4-8pm. Even outside of happy hour, the prices and the rolls are delicious. So worth it. Carry out is fast and they always give everything you need. Half price rolls on Sundays- yes please. For full price, it's good suburban Sushi, for half price, you'd have to look pretty hard for a way to claim this place isn't a phenomenal deal. How bad would sushi need to be for you to say a $3 roll isn't good? Runa isn't going to provide you with that scenario. At this point, my friends and I have probably gotten sushi take out about 5 or 6 times, each time ordering a variety of rolls (10 or so in total each time) so that we can try most of what they've got to offer. Like anything with such variety, its a mixed bag sure, but mostly very good. The simple rolls benefit from being well balanced with good quality fish; the more complex rolls benefit from those same things, but also with some creative ingredients. In a couple instances, the special rolls don't translate to take out as well and that's on us, and rarely, but not never, a special roll doesn't get high marks. The Monster roll for instance, is deep fried, if you live close or don't care about texture much, go for it, but if it's going to be awhile, well, it wont be crispy duh. You know what it will be though? Delicious. Honestly, give them a try. read more
