It's hard to rate a pizza place, as New York pizza is always great. Franklin Pizza fell short of this expectation. The guy at the front counter wasn't friendly and was passive aggressive. The spot is like any other pizzeria but had very little seating space. I got two slices of pepperoni which came out to $10. That's a bit much but I figured it must be worth the price right? This past summer, I found myself in the Greenpoint area, and decided to grab two slices. A mushroom, and a margarita slice..and man was it bad. Unfortunately, they didn't have much flavor-- the sauce was bland, the cheese wasn't great, and the crust bland AND hard as a rock. We were in NYC for a couple days and tried as much pizza as my stomach can handle. This was the BEST pizza we had the whole time! Specifically Grandma's pizza. I couldn't get this pizza out of my head the entire time. This place has the tomato sauce-it's ON POINT no joke. Dino takes care of his customers and it's all a labor of love. The guy lives and breathes recipes. He's got it on his mind. It's an art form at this point. I'm happy I got to taste his pizza and meet him! A real hidden gem for Pizza Shop lovers There's a handful of pizza places in the area but this one is my favorite hands down. Good prices, such a friendly staff, an the dough! The dough...it's so soft but perfectly crunchy. Especially if you get the Stromboli's but this also applies to the crust. The place is very hole in the wall, but the pizza is good. Not the best I ever had, but whenever I come here it satisfies my pizza craving. The people that work there seem to be characters, but are fun enough. Decor is a hodge podge (I think I saw an ax on the wall?). No idea when it opened, but it seems old and like it's seen some things. Definitely it's a take out spot. There's maybe two tiny tables, but it's not a dine-in spot. I was heading to a show at the nearby Brooklyn Bazaar and was really looking forward to my usual Greenpoint stop of Triangolo's Pizza down on Manhattan Avenue but my friend didn't feel like walking and pointed out that pizza was down the block as well so there we were at Franklin Pizza. Now I've passed this place before but have never gone in despite always walking right by to go to the Brooklyn Expo Center. My visit was a quick one and I ordered a single plain slice and a can of Sprite and since we assumed the show was opening the doors at any moment, my friend and I ate quickly so we could get on the line to enter the nearby club. That was a mistake since I could have even had another 2 slices based on how long they made us wait. That being said I did enjoy the pizza and might for sure find myself down here eating again the next time I need to go to the Expo Center. I don't think I will be back to the place until next Spring but its marked off as a side step to the planned adventure. The slice was a nicely sized one and I always like that. More pricey than I thought it would be, but Franklin makes a tasty sausage slice. They have wi-fi and some not-so-clean clean tables. So I guess they want you to hang around for a bit. But not for the television. It's ten feet off the ground, so it's obvious it's for the entertainment of the guy stuck behind the counter all day. The pizza has a good crust and good quality toppings. I just wish it was served hotter. I was in no rush. I was in the middle of the 6 hour process of waiting to have my book signed at WORD just up the block. I hope someone got Allie Brosh a whole pie. It was right in the middle of the room literally in front of the counter. (Okay that's very gross but it's Friday night, I get it) I asked for something to clean my shoes with and I was handed a single paper towel. I was trying to step on the paper towel to clean my shoes. I didn't want to wipe my shoes with my hands, I was about to eat a slice of pizza. As I'm stepping on the paper towels the other employee yells and gestures aggressively to clean up the paper towels on the floor.. HOW ABOUT YOU CLEAN THE THROW UP IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR PIZZA SHOP. Needed a quick bite during a BoroughCon intermission and decided on this place. Remember back in the day when "grabbing pizza" meant a hot, greasy, street experience? None of this flatbread, honey and avocado experimentations with artisan sparkling mineral water on the side stuff? WELL IT STILL EXISTS. I took a step in here and SMELLED the joint and knew I'd be getting old-school, New York-style, STREET PIZZA and I was not disappointed. A bite of a classic Pepperoni slice had my mind traveling back to half-days at elementary school where your parents had to send in money for your pizza slice and if your mom gave you money for TWO slices, then you were a BOSS. $4 dollar slice and barely a place to eat or sit, not to mention it is cash only. I ordered two margarita slices and two garlic knots which were old and stiff not the way garlic knots should be and paid 9 dollars. The pizza also was just average. For 5 more bucks I can go sit down and Pauline gee which pizza is made in brick over an get a whole pie. This business has a great location and is convenient but doesn't mean it's okay to rip people off especially if you don't even accept CC or offer decent place to sit. I love this place for quick lunches. They're always super nice. Slices are still huge, and they're toppings never disappoint. The mushroom slice and eggplant/ricotta slice are particularly amazing. Though in that case, I wish there was a little bit less eggplant (meh)... and it's super filling. I'm really looking forward to trying the stuffed shells, but worried that they'll just provoke a mid-day food coma at work. :/ I also hear they have a delightful buffalo chicken slice, but unless they jump on the Vinnie's bandwagon and make it buffalo "chik'n," i cannot personally attest. only 4 out of 5 stars, because it's not the best pizza ive had in nyc, nor is it in the top 5. and i'm kind of miffed about the shakers they use. The red pepper flakes are too big to actually fit through the slots, so you end up having to use "pour" side and, well, that doesnt always end well. also, i don't think they take cards since there's an atm machine in there. read more

Pizza quality is only 2 stars- I'm giving then and extra star because I noticed Improvement the second time. I agree it is a great addition to my neighborhood, but, with great service and location- one must not forget the responsibility to deliver. My mail-sorter companion and I were supposed to be meeting Peter D. at Paulie Gee's for a food crawl. Instead, we showed up late and chased each other around Brooklyn. Since we still had to eat, we stopped into this hole in the wall place nearby. It was surprisingly awesome. We had a huge piece of sausage pizza (which had a great crust), a beef patty (because I am Jamaican) and garlic knots. The knots were a little greasy but not bad. The kicker was the price. All that food, plus two drinks, was $8.50. When we were told the price, we both exclaimed "$8.50?!" Chada actually fainted. The owner started apologizing as if it was too high, but we explained that our shock was a good thing. read more
