At least a 4.2 for this place because PG's NY slices are better than most I've tried in Manhattan. Overall first impression of Paulie Gee - Oh gee, a C rating from the health department but it seems like it's been outdated. But overall, the place was pretty clean to me. The front is hotter, the back with more tables and seats are well air-conditioned. The cheese slices look like a big tampon with an extended crust that's 2" long without sauce. I've never came across a slice with this look in the city, but these cheese slices are definitely bigger than my face and I am for it. The sauce is not overly sweet and bottom is evenly baked. There are lots of regulars there and the line didn't stop the second we walked in. And people order in pies. The pizza is great and they even have squared ones and vegan options. The only complaint I have about this pizzeria is the fact that you gotta order it via a cashier, where the lady likes to talk. I find that slowed down the line a bit, and if you're pregnant and feeling hot and bothered like me in the store, you're not gonna like it. Otherwise, I'd definitely recommend the pizza, either eat it in the back where it is cooler or take it across to the park from the shop. read more

Have been meaning to try Paulie Gee's and I finally made it. I don't agree with anyone who has them in their top ten or anything crazy, but it is a very solid slice. Slice was good in a NYC slice sense. Good undercarriage, minimal flop, a little oily, pungent in a good way cheese. Sauce was nothing special. (Tomato magic ground tomatoes). Solid slices! Paulie Gee's has been on my list for many years. This part of Greenpoint isn't always my favorite place to visit given the limited parking. Folks in the neighborhood also generally lack common decency in terms of parking their vehicle but I digress. Let's focus on my experience at Paulie Gee's. There was a bit of a wait outside in the blustery cold, a delayed opening, which would have been nice to communicate when I inadvertently walked in earlier. As it stood, a few of us waited outside to get in well after general opening time. The pizza was solid, no drippy or droopy slices here. Pepperoni slices were loaded, the hot honey drizzle was solid as well. My favorite was the sausage, which was thinly sliced and layered optimally for a bite of sausage in each bite. The dining room area was clean and well attended to. It is clear they like the Yankees here, so much so that classic games are on a few of the flat screens on repeat. Make sure you pledge your allegiance to (or hide) properly. LOL. My ordered slices came promptly and most importantly, hot at my table. I was skeptical of a new place re-creating the authentic NY slice, but with more blogger support and longer lines. After all, it isn't the Mona Lisa; the original item still exists, even if you have to go somewhere less fashionable than Greenpoint to find the best versions.
