In town and had to check out my old stomping ground for jumbo battered fried shrimp. Franks has two locations Irving Park, Chicago & Hoffman Estates, IL. I was in the burbs this time by the HE location. Ordered 1/2 pound Jumbo Fried Shrimp which is a little more (normally do 1/4 pound) than I usually get but it's been awhile and I wanted to have a little extra for later. For sides I got there macaroni salad and coleslaw. Always a nice pairing with the shrimp. I was greeted and welcome upon arriving. Gentlemen kindly answered a few questions as it's been awhile and didn't remember a few things. Order was cooked fast and presented nice n hot as always. It was same as always with perfectly battered not too light not to heavy shrimps. They were same good jumbo size too and went well with the cocktail sauce BUT I notice it was as flavorful as I've enjoyed in the past. It seemed like they change something in the batter- less seasoning perhaps. I was a bit disappointed on that so I didn't enjoy it as much as usual. When in town again I'll give another try to see or maybe even go to the Irving Park Location instead. I do recommend you give either location a try as it's DEFINITELY worth it just don't have your expectations set as high for the HE location if you decide to try them. I'm hoping this was a one mishap as every place has their slightly off days. PS I took updated menu pictures to help with ordering. Hope it helps.

The ambience is very dated and tired looking from the 70's, normally those places are hidden gem's, but this was not a gem unfortunately. Service was good, and friendly. We ordered catfish strips and 1lb of jumbo shrimp. They don't have catfish filets or catfish steaks. The jumbo shrimp were fried nicely but the jumbo shrimp had NO FLAVOR, plain batter is exactly what you get! As you can see from the signage I probably should have ordered with garlic. I guess I'm spoiled by Chicago fish businesses with flavor. I don't understand how you don't have at minimum -- salt and pepper in a plain batter. I almost ordered the "Chicago Style" but a friend from church came in as I was about to order and stated they eat here all the time and advised me to order the jumbo shrimp. My hubby said the catfish strips were okay, but I'm not sure I'd patronize this business again.

Pretty good. Had no idea this place existed. Thank goodness for Yelp! When looking for a place for my hubby & I to grab some food, it came up in my search. So we headed on over. We tried the Chicago fried shrimp, the cat fish, the ocean perch, hush puppies and potato pancakes. We shared everything. And it was pretty tasty considering we're right smack in the Midwest - far, far from any ocean. Service was great. We were greeted with a friendly smile right away, and our food was out relatively quickly for freshly fried to order.

The Chicago style shrimp is amazing. I drive an hour just for them. Get the hot BBQ sauce it pairs well with the shrimp. Fried catfish is always a must also. I don't get fries I get hush puppies. Mmmmm I wish I lived closer.

Disappointed with the jumbo fried shrimp. Dry and tasteless. The cocktail sauce was basically solid. I can't even guess how old it was.

The deal is half off apps, but if you enjoy an adult beverage, the house-brewed drafts are also half off. M-Th 3-6pm, dine-in only. At least that's what it is right now. I feel like it changes, so maybe call beforehand to confirm. I only got pics of the nachos this time, which really doesn't do it full justice because they're bigger than they look in the photo. Food is always good and consistent, there's nothing really to complain about regarding service or prices, and parking has always been really easy, though that could be because we typically go on Tuesdays. I imagine weekends could be a little bit busier, but the place is pretty big, so even if you have to wait, I don't think that you'd be waiting that long. The vibe is also casual and low-key.

I had been here with my daughter about 12 years ago and remembered enjoying it then. We all had burgers and craft beer. My friends went with the Mad Max (burger of the month) and I went with a peppercorn and blue cheese burger. It was thumbs up for all of us on the burgers as well as the beer, which was unique and delicious. I took no pictures that day and just enjoyed the outing with friends, but I was especially impressed with the taste of my burger. I abstained from adding any of my usual condiments, and decided to try it as is, with just their sauce. Best decision ever! The sauce was amazing and the burger was cooked a perfect medium. Like many restaurants, Luck Monk offers their regular menu, plus flyers on their specials, including beers and cocktails. Four days later, I went right back there again on my own, to formally review it with photos. I had to go with that same peppercorn burger, because it was just so good, and to make sure the first time was a fluke. It wasn't. I tried out their chili as well, which was also good. This chef knows what he is doing. This stand alone restaurant is easy to get to, and has ample parking. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and looks high end, though I found the pricing to be reasonable. It would be a great spot to take clients for a business lunch. It's elegant looking , but unpretentious. The hostess and servers are wonderful. I highly recommend the Lucky Monk!

This place is incredible... the food is to die for. It's the first place I've been to and did not feel like bloated or so full to where I was sick because the portions were perfect. Nothing here fell short, in fact it's the first place in the burbs where the food wasn't overly salted or fried in some type of oil. Everything tasted fresh. The flavors were busting up in my mouth every bite I took, even down to snowball fight drink we had. I highly, highly recommend the bread cheese appetizer- this was something super unique to me as I've only had grilled up cheese one other time in Brazil, Queijo Coalho.... There was a beautiful twist on this cheese- crunchy, creamy, sweet, savory and the honey and tabbouleh were such a great finish to this dish. Pair this with the fresh bread and it was chefs kiss! We had the beer braised short rib and seabass- two completely different flavored entres that we absolutely perfect. The short rib you literally can't go wrong with- melted in my mouth with every bite - and hats off the the chef who cooked the onions so perfect to actually be able to taste them instead of just carmelizing or salting them! I would call this your typical Midwest comfort dish. The seabass was much different the salad was tangy with the lentils being rich- add a nice cooked crispy top seabass and you got yourself a unique dish of flavors that will have you thinking what's in it after hours! But the star of the show was dessert of course - OMFG - s'mores ice cream sunday ....... I died and went to heaven literally. I have never tasted ice cream that mimicked everything I've ever wanted my ice cream to taste like. It was the perfect temperature (trust me a lot of restaurants it's either rock hard or melted) this was epic. Creamy, almost pudding like and being able to taste every note was wild to me. The graham cracker - yes the freaking graham cracker was the best one I've ever tasted in my life. Clearly I've never had a graham cracker without preservatives before. The chocolate syrup .... Jeeze let me tell if I could swim in it I would.... The service was friendly, prompt and right on time. The server knew all the cues and timing of all the food to come out. She checked in everytime we got something to make sure everything was just right... you can tell she takes her job seriously but also knows how to interact with people - something a lot of servers lack these days so we really appreciated the service. As for the atmosphere- this place blows a lot of the chi city restaurants out of the water. The organic feel but fancy! Oh, and I can actually talk and hear myself think without blasting music over my head. We will be back ... but honestly please change nothing here- everything you're doing here is fantastic!

It's modern inside, dark paint, and updated decor. However it feels friendly with the trendy atmosphere. The way these dishes look also match the ambiance at the restaurant. We ordered lots of dishes and they mostly looked great! The Salat Roasted Beet Salad is fruity, thanks to the berries and citrus, with a pistachio whip on the bottom of the dish. It's a heavier dish for a salad, but absolutely delicious and fruity. I also had the San Francisco Style Cioppino was good, but I wasn't expecting it to be like a zupa di pesci, while the flavor was good, I was having FOMO of others eating monkfish and the walleye. The Cioppino had a Louisiana flavored sauce. There was a variety of fish which were all cooked and not overdone. It's a massive dish! We finished off with English Sticky Toffee Pudding and Italian Citrus Mascarpone Cake. The cake was amazing! It wasn't too tart and light. The sticky pudding was also delicious and very sweet. It's a very beautiful restaurant, service is great, the plates look amazing and tastes great. It's definitely a spot to try again!
