Didn't have to wait long for a table for 3 and we were sat in a cozy booth. Gage our server was nice, and that was an understatement. She was very attentive to our needs (having our coffee mugs filled, etc.). Food was delicious and has a homemade taste to it. After our meal, as we were walking outside I could smell the corned beef that's cooking and somehow still want to eat more after finishing a whole plate of Belgian Waffle and bacon. Super cute place. An old Presidential railroad car from Seattle, turned into a diner. Huge counter seating area, plus small booth seats. My server was Gage, who has worked here for 32 years when the diner was first opened in Spokane. She is actually the waitress in the caricature on the logo. She said most people don't notice it. I had the Derailer. Two eggs, 3 large bacon strips, hash browns, and Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. I couldn't finish it all, which is why Gage told me it's called the Derailer. I never had to ask for coffee or water refills, and I think the food came out within 5 or 7 minutes of ordering. It was super fast. She even apologized for the extra time, because I asked for my hash browns to be cooked extra crispy. One thing I found interesting. She said they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The absolute best spot in Spokane for traditional diner-style breakfast offerings. My group got two omelettes (the Garden Pancetta and the The Works, no mushrooms), which came with fruit and toast (we chose biscuits), each at about $13. Real bang for your buck. The biscuits were buttery, the omelettes were perfectly cooked, and the fruit was fresh. Personally, I was a bigger fan of The Works, which is the way to go if you're looking for a supreme-style omelette with two meats, onions, peppers, and two kinds of cheese. The Garden Pancetta is a newer offering, and I'd recommend it to fans of corned beef hash. It's savory on the inside and refreshing on the outside with the lemon-caper hollondaise. Expect Frank's to have a line. We showed up around 9:30 on a Sunday morning, and there were six parties ahead of us, which turned out to be about a 40 minute wait. I have come back to Frank's 3 times now and every time the food has been exceptional and what's been even more exceptional than the food is the service. What was supposed to be a lovely brunch with our daughter and her fiancé turned into a major disappointment. We were carded upon ordering -- which is fine -- but then carded again by a different waitress because, apparently, the first one "wasn't supposed to do that." What followed felt more like a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) interrogation than a routine ID check. One of the IDs was accused of being "tampered with" -- seriously? Still, we let it go. We came for the food, after all. Then came a 45-minute wait with a weak excuse about failing equipment. The food finally arrived -- and to be fair, it was delicious. But unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. Out of nowhere, and without any complaint from our side, two staff members came over to defend the ID situation -- going on and on to the point of awkwardness and embarrassment. They were clearly trying to "fix" a problem that we weren't even making into an issue, and in doing so, they created one. The locals gave us this great suggestion to eat at Frank's diner, and we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to see the Dining car how wonderful and inside it was just as magical as we thought it would be. They had a great selection on the menu and our waitress Alexis was wonderful. The portions of food are quite adequate. You're not gonna go hungry when you leave there. It was fun looking around and seeing the different things inside the Dining car and we even purchased the postcards and T-shirts. Seasoned panko crust, fresh green tomatoes and a red tomato sauce that's one part creamy, two parts flavorful, one part spice. Wife: "This is the Cadillac of Fried Green Tomatoes." Breakfast: Biscuit and gravy were both light and tasty, poached eggs were perfect as was the hollandaise sauce, and the hash browns were cooked perfectly. Coffee: good. All the delicious smells of a greasy spoon diner, but the food is a higher quality by a factor of 5 to 10 points on my scale. Portion sizes were plentiful. I was staying in Spokane for just a night while traveling and decided to come to Franks the morning before I left. I was so delighted that I chose this place. The restaurant being in a vintage train car was so cute and there were so many little eclectic things around the car as well. The service was great I had a very sweet attentive waitress. Menu was easy to figure out and there were so many options it was hard to choose. I went with the Capresse eggs Benedict with a side of fruit and to drink I did a hot chocolate the eggs Benni was delicious it had a fried green tomato on it which was a fun twist and the balsamic really worked with the hollandaise. Solid place, long wait, decent food, decent service. Stopped in with a friend on a weekday mid morning and the wait was approx 35 min. We sat at the bar top and ordered quickly because the line essentially never stops. We didn't exactly feel rushed but internally we just kind of knew it was best to get in and get out. I ordered the Creole Benedict with gravy and hollandaise on the side. The hash browns were a bit undercooked but nothing crazy and all of the other food was fairly good. The number one reason is Leslie! This is our second visit to Spokane, and we made a point to come back. We were thrilled to see that Leslie was our server again because she really created a great experience for us. My chicken fried steak dinner took 2 meals to finish, and it was comparable to any Southern Cracker Barrel in taste and quality. A star off for the hydrogenated oil used to fry the steak. I broke out in pimples for two days after eating here. Parking is easy in the private lot. Employees are as friendly as at Huckeberry's, my benchmark for customer service. Took a chance on this place because it's local and not in the best of locations. It's really cute as an old train car and the service and food are terrific. Lots of parking, clean bathrooms, excellent service. My husband had breakfast food, and I had French dip and both were the best. Seating at the tables is very cute and cooler temperature wise than the counter, but watching those guys cook and everybody shuffle back-and-forth while you have your meal is a lot of fun. This time it was a 20 minute wait so I finally got in to the rail car made into a diner. You instantly feel like you are back in the 50's In a old diner car. Franks is awesome! From the cool vintage passenger car environment to the great service, this is a must visit spot! The great food is a bonus! The Great Northern burger was some fresh beef cooked on a classic flat top grill. I don't know what is in the special sauce, but it provided the right tang to bring the flavors home! You can watch the team cooking so you know how everything is made. The bun was soft and fresh and all of the toppings were clean and crisp! The fries are meaty and were salted to perfection. Loved the food and the ambiance. It's really cool to be sitting in a train enjoying a hearty breakfast. It was a 30 minute wait for first available for 3 people. We were seated at the counter and loved seeing the short ordered chefs do their magic. Food orders came out pretty quickly. Looking at the menu, there were sooooo many awesome sounding dishes. I decided on the crispy pancetta with eggs with a back up plan of the duck bacon and eggs. I was sadly disappointed that they didn't have either. Maybe it's a supply chain issue maybe they just ran out by 11am but either way I didn't get my first or second choice. I still ordered bacon and eggs with hash browns.
