Welcome aboard. Yes, that's a strange thing to say about your breakfast restaurant but here we are in a fantastically restored vintage railcar. It dates back to manufacture in 1906 and then updating as a presidential car. And now it's a fabulous throwback to history as a modern diner. No waiting when I arrived on a weekday and a lovely woman took care of me for my breakfast. I opted for the half-sized omelet which was definitely not half-sized. There's a lot of food here with hash browns topped with their hand-made country gravy. Yes, half of this huge breakfast went into a box and became today's lunch. Warm, friendly service. The setting is an old rail car with amazing stained glass light fixtures, brass and wood, a true step back in history. Sign said they had been serving since 1904 or so. Went on a Friday morning of a weekend trip to Spokane, sat in a booth and had a great waitress. So good, we went back again on Saturday morning! This time we sat at the rail and watched the cooks work their magic, the two young men cooking were absolutely at the top of their game, orchestrated excellence. Friends and I took a weekend trip to Spokane. My friend recommended we hit this unique diner in the city. I can't tell you how impressed I was with the food! It was so delicious and my friends all gave a thumbs up. It was fun sitting and watching the cooks make the meals, they definitely take pride in their cooking. We absolutely loved having Samantha as our waitress, they were professional and lovely -- we felt super comfortable and they set the vibe for us. Sitting next the door wasn't very pleasant but it was okay. Also, one of the workers was lecturing a young waitress and it was kinda awkward, and felt like we were invading their space -- they could've had these conversations somewhere else and not in front of the guests. We finally were able to make it to Franks Diner. We have tried a couple times before but it was on weekends and it was packed. We decided to go there tonight, a Monday evening and it was perfect. Only a few people there. In fact we thought they were closed. Except for the open sign was on. We were not disappointed. Couldn't decide on a breakfast or burger. I chose the burger this time and it was really good. So big I could only eat half of it. The bun was so soft and squishy. Meat cooked to perfection and nice grilled flavor. The fries were seasoned steak sized fries and they had the best tasting tarter sauce. My husband had a chocolate shake and it was a masterpiece. ( see photo). The server (Leslie) and the line cooks (Angel & Josh) worked like a well-oiled machine. Great food at an affordable price and excellent service. It's an old rail car converted to a restaurant and it's so cool inside! The menu is large and varied and all the meals including breakfast are served all day so there's many choices. I had the French Swiss Dip and it was delicious and large with a ton of French fries. We were a group of 5 and went mid morning. It took close to an hour for us to be seated as there is literally only 1 table for 5 people in the place. I saw a larger group sat in 2 adjoining booths. Once we got in the service was excellent. The wait staff were very nice and friendly and made recommendations for us to check out in the local area. The person who I am guessing is the manager gave us a free cobbler because of how long we waited which I thought was really nice. The food was good. My meaty omelet was flavorful and cooked well. They offered extra cheese on basically anything but didn't tell us it was an extra charge. Not the first time we fell for this but just passing on the info. My family liked their food too. The service from Clay and Nathan was TOP NOTCH! We had a hard time deciding what to eat and Nathan suggested the French Swiss Dip. It was so delicious! From the tender meat to the au jus.... Perfection. We are used to terrible service since the Covid era and we were pleasantly surprised by these guys. Friendly and accommodating even when they didn't have to be. OMG! What a wonderful place. The interior is divine and elegant for a diner. We came here on a Sunday morning and was seated immediately in a 2 person booth. We perused the menu and was interested in 3 different choices. Melissa came by to ask what we wanted to drink and ordered a coffee and hot water for my tea. I also asked for a sample of their cream gravy. She immediately brought all items. The gravy was in a small bowl and tasted just like the gravy I make at home. It checked all my boxes; creamy, smooth, and a bit peppery. Yum Yum. We decided to split the Conductor. It was orgasmic. The French toast was cooked perfect. Fluffy, chewy, an browned exactly the way you want them. We had scrambled eggs, bacon, which was perfectly crisp and lean. To top it off we went with fruit. The grapes were sweet and firm, honey dew, pineapple, and cantaloupe were ripe and sweet. Melissa was sweet and came by periodically to check on us and refill coffee. Received a warm welcome from the hostess right away. They offer a waitlist you can track, which is a nice touch--our wait was about 20 minutes. Our server was pleasant and gave some great recommendations. We went with Nana's pancakes and the meat omelet. A note for first-timers: you can choose a one-egg or three-egg omelet-- I chose one and it was huge! If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely return. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. This is located just north of the city walking distance, but be aware that it's not in the best of walking conditions but a must try. Now the menu has both breakfast and lunch but we decided to try only breakfast items. We got the cinnamon waffle with a side of crispy bacon, which was absolutely super sweet, super indulging and overwhelming with food. We also tried the original Benedict, which was absolutely 100% the best thing that I have ever eaten, this is a must try for breakfast. Would love to come back for lunch. read more

The only thing I don't love about Frank's is the wait. But good things come to those that wait, right? Just be prepared that if you come by on a weekend, you might end up waiting about an hour. The good news is that Frank's has its own parking lot and street parking, so you should be able to find a spot and there is free coffee waiting for you outside if you find yourself waiting for a while. Once inside the train car, the options are plentiful. There are some small booths at the back of the train car and bar seating available. The menu offers something for everyone so you can enjoy a tasty meal while also feeling transported to another time through the ambiance. During my recent visit there was a mimosa special that was perfect for the season. For breakfast I ordered the blueberry muffin French toast and a side of bacon. I'm not sure why I found it so surprising because it was like a hybrid between a blueberry muffin and French toast. But it worked well. Nostalgia doesn't always mean good... This place is an exception. A quick stop right when they opened on a Tuesday morning. Immediately greeted by...a young gentleman enjoying his breakfast sitting at the counter stating sit where you want - huh?? I immediately thought bad things. However, his immediate greeting was followed up by smiles, hellos from literally everyone of the about a dozen staff that was obviously getting ready for the "rush" later that morning. He ended up being a fry cook. Quickly met by our waitress, ordered our food, and it was out in 5 minutes. The franks custom sausage (delicious) soft scrambled eggs (perfectly done), crispy hash browns as requested (with gravy) and some of the best rye toast I've had at a diner in a long time (I'm a breakfast guy). It's a tad expensive (what isn't knowadays) but for being in a city, the quality and quantity of food and the sheer niceness of the entire staff, this place is worth every penny!!
