The pizza is yummy, the place is clean, and the employees are by far the best !! We got wings and they were really good too !

I went to Frank's when it first opened. I told everyone about it, because it was the best pizza I had since moving from the East Coast. Many people I told about Frank's tried it out and loved it. Unfortunately the last several times I have been, my order was messed up and the quality just wasn't there. For example on the messed up part I ordered a pie with extra mushrooms, there was the equivalent of about one mushroom on the whole pie. The sauce originally was amazing it would have me dreaming about the place long after finishing my last slice. The sauce has lost its zing. Now the place is just average. I was curious if something had changed so I asked this questions to a server last time I was there. And yes it has changed owners. read more

One of my favorite places to get pizza! Delish! I also enjoyed the wings! Salad is nummy. Staff seems ok too, I haven't had any issues with customer service. Place is clean and I like the ambiance. It is a small place, but I've never seen it be at full capacity so, not a problem. I think most people order for pick-up. read more

I'm only giving 4 stars because of the service. The food, as always, was amazing. However, this particular day we encountered a young lady that clearly did not want to be there. She never smiled during her encounters with our table. I had to go to the counter to ask for a box for my food then again to ask for my check because my server had apparently gone to lunch, without a word to the tables she was supposed to be serving. For the first time in 20 years I did not leave a tip. A little advice: if you don't want a job, leave. read more

I preordered two slices of veggie pizza and the lady on the phone said it would be ready in 5 minutes, cool. I give them an extra five and arrive 10 minutes later (I live across the street so it takes me no time to come in) after I arrived I pay and expected it to be ready. After 25 minutes it's finally ready and I go about my day. Once I get home I look and they literally just put a whole bunch of vegetables on an already cooked cheese pizza , threw some cheese on top and reheated it. This joint has a 60's vibe w/ freshly picked flowers on a jar, brick walls, wooden furniture, and black & white pictorials on the wall. I came to this place to kill time before work and for a late lunch. The service was quick and food was delicious. Also, I'm very thankful that they have fans esp. during this humid weather. They also have a bar and happy hour, so that's a plus. What I love the most was the music! They were playing Jazz and Blues which was refreshing. I totally didn't expect that! read more

The atmosphere and service here are great. Several TV's make for adequate sports viewing. BUT - this is a restaurant and food should be the primary focus. We ordered one Greek and one Italian salad. They were both good and typical. The pepperoni pizza was decent but hardly gourmet - very light with the cheese. I am a chicken wing guy and always order them "naked" with sauce on the side. These were average in size but WAY over cooked and dry. They now serve beer. With the ever increasing interest in craft beers, you would hope they would offer a pale ale or IPA, but they do not. Overall: A clean restaurant with several selections and good service, but the pizza and chicken wings need some help. read more

Worst pizza I have ever had in San Diego. Tasted like burnt cardboard and little Caesars quality type pizza. The entire bottom of the pizza was burnt the sauce tasted really cheap. The whole pizza resembled something out the frozen section with a layer grease stacked on top. Not to mention they hardly put any toppings on the pizza which was just Olives and Pepperoni. Reading all the poor reviews on Yelp on Franks pizza joint by customers complaining about the owners, the food and the young people that work at the restaurant just show how petty people who leave reviews are. We eat out four five times a week, everywhere from McDonalds to Hooleys and Tappi Sushi and sometimes the food is off, other times the service is just not their and sometimes I feel I waited way to long and over paid. But never have I left a bad review or stopped going to eat at these places. It's food people, it's about eating and being grateful to be out with family and friends and not take things so seriously. The positive reviews are are all from Individuals without pictures, sound legit????? I think not! We have now been here twice, first time ordered we received the slice minus the toppings ordered, they put the toppings on and get this slid it BACK into the oven and burnt it to holy hell. I guess preparing me a new slice was to expensive for frank and yes he was the one In the back, I asked the server why I didn't have a new slice and she looked as puzzled as me and walked away with no reply. Second time we received a pizza to go, not sure how this could ever be called New York pizza, has anyone that states this is New York pizza ever been there? It's not supposed to be thick like this and bland. Bronx and luigis come much closer than franks. We also had a wedge salad and the other 50 times or so we have had it elsewhere it actually resembled a wedge, not shredded lettuce as what franks presents. Went in here since i didn't realize rush hour was about hit and i haven't eaten coming from a swim across the street @ 24hr. Service is lackluster. Waited for a good 15mins. listening to employees argue about clock/in-out times without any of them acknowledging me then finally a girl came and asked me if i've been helped. "No... i wouldn't be standing here on the order counter, looking at the menu if i was already helped"... anyway. Pizza was OK. A lil too salty and greasy for my taste. Prices are reasonable. After reading reviews on this place, my friend and I were a little nervous to check it out. She just moved in the area though and we decided to give it a try. It is such a great family ran business!! We were served by Tali, and she was super sweet and checked on us quite often! The food came out quick, was really hot, and everything tasted super fresh and AMAZING!!! We ordered the antipasto, the fried zuchinni, garlic rosemary fries, and a supreme pizza! We didn't come close to finishing it lol, but we savored it and brought a lot home to the kids. First off...I really love the pizza, and I think it is tops in San Diego considering I've tried a few of the good ones here in SD. The reason I only give it 4 stars is because the experience in customer service in the past was a little neglectful. But, tonight the service was great. A little history: the first 4 times the service was phenomenal by the waitstaff and cashiers. However, when the "Important Person" or whoever appeared to be the manager or owner wouldn't even bother to acknowledge me....even when there was only 1 or 2 other parties in there. Keep in mind,when I dropped in, they had only been open for a few weeks/months. I can understand that his friends or family were there....but COME ON...at least give me a wave and a smile. I live in the neighborhood and want to see you thrive!!! Well tonight...Raphael and his wife Yesmenia (sp??) were so gracious even with my late night appearance. They chatted me up as I macked on the deliciousness. The pizza was just as good as the first time, and now they serve beer on tap as they promised back when I first patronized them. As others have said, its a shame because the food isn't bad but the customer service is horrible. The woman (i believe owner or wife of owner) was extremely rude when we called to get our order, which they messed up, replaced. We couldn't come back on the evening that the order was made wrong, and spoke with a gentlemen on the phone who assured us it would be replaced or refunded. Well, apparently the wife of the owner at first, found no record of it, then offered 10% off (really?!), then was able to miraculously find record of the note indicating our order but it was for a smaller pizza than we actually ordered. Dishonest, and a shame to see from a family business that we had been semi-regulars at. Won't be back after being treated this way. read more

This is a cozy little family place with a warm friendly vibe. Sorry to say that the food is pretty bad. We've gone three times to try it out and the pizza is not terrible because of plentiful toppings, but the crust is chain restaurant like. Salads are ok. The real bummer was the pasta. So overcooked! The spaghetti and meatballs was like elementary school lunch line food. Sorry! I want to like the place because the young people serving are very nice and the room is warm and inviting. Franks is old school; and you should like that. When you walk in the interior exhumes an old timey feel almost like going back in time to your local neighborhood pizza place or malt shop back in the 50's. They go out of their way to create a family experience and treat their customers as such. Let's get down to business though. Wings: Excellent, one small complaint, add more sauce to the bottom of the container. Drown those chicken parts in buffalo sauce. Only good things will come of this. Philly Cheesesteak: Delicious, I just wish it was a bit bigger. Tender beef, bell peppers, onions and velvety cheese on a nice toasted bun. Pizza: Come on, did you really think it was going to be any less than great? As a former New Yorker I can tell you that there's three great pizza places in San Diego, and this is one of them. They sell by the slice, so you have no excuse not to put it in your mouth. All in all, Franks is what you wish most pizza places were but fall short. So the next time you look at the disgusting Domino's crap across the parking lot, think again. Support small business, besides it's waaaaay better. read more

I've seen a lot of places come and go in this shopping center over the years and based on my experience last night, I'm pretty sure Frank's will not stand the test of time. Where do I even begin? After looking at their lackluster specialty pizzas, I decided I wanted a slice of cheese and a Cherry Coke. They were out of cheese pizza. WHAT?! After hearing that, it was no surprise they didn't have Cherry Coke. So I settled for a Margherita pizza which turned out to be maybe the greasiest pizza I have ever had. (and I've had a lot of pizza). I think I had to use about 7 napkins to soak up the grease before it was edible. If you're looking for good pizza, you're honestly better off going to Domino's in the same center. If you want the sit-down experience, you're better off going to Oggi's, Pizza Port, or a number of similar establishments. Frank's has ZERO atmosphere and a paltry beer selection to boot. Frank's has nothing uniquely good to offer and I definitely won't be going back. They also have TERRIBLE customer service. I think they are still working out some kinks staffing-wise, but it was pretty bad considering it wasn't even that busy when I went. I believe that even terrible pizza is still kinda ok. But I honestly don't know how it has 4 & 5 star reviews. The only nice thing I can say is that their fries were pretty good (though lacking in condiments.) We live near Frank's Pizza Joint and have ordered there several times. The food is great-- when they get it right. Since the new ownership a couple of years ago we have had numerous situations where they do not get the order correct. We typically order pizza and call it in for pickup. Our favorite pizza is the Veggitano. Over the past year they have forgotten 1 or 2 of the veggies that are supposed to be on it, just about every time we order. Almost always they leave off the artichokes. Several times they have left off the garlic when we add that to our pizza. Some would say, why do you keep going back?! Well, because the food is good and we like supporting a local business. Additionally, they always make it right-- very apologetic and usually give us a discount or even a free pizza next time we order. But today I think we are done. My husband placed the order for our pizza and salad, arrived 25 minutes later to pick it up, and upon arrival was told that there was no pizza or salad made! The young girl said she remembered taking the order but could not explain why it wasn't made. There were a couple of people dining in, otherwise it was relatively slow for a Monday evening. She then offered to put the order in and give us a $10 gift card. Another big miss. Sorry Frank's, but you need to get your staff in order with the menu and better customer service. We hate to discontinue our patronage, but this has been one too many instances of poor business and customer service. read more

Frank's makes me very eager to try more NY style foods. I had the pizza, the rosemary fries (my favorite, so much garlicky goodness), and the wings. The meat was high quality, not super greasy. They used fresh vegetables for the pizza, and the fries were really good, even as takeout. The wings were fire, and I can't wait to go back for the hotter flavors. read more

Tucked into the furthest corner of East County San Diego, right before entering into BFE San Diego county, you'll find Frank's Pizza Joint. It's relatively new to the area. It's in a huge shopping center that houses a big chain grocery store, a big chain drug store, a well known but ever declining pizza delivery company and a few banks. This shopping center seems to be the central hub for the area. Frank's is a hole in the wall compared to its big business partners at this Locale. The Pizza is amazing. Really close to east coast a pizza. The cheese falls off at the end, the sauce tastes like fresh tomatoes and not over seasoned with basil, garlic or oregano... All of which are staples for a good sauce, they just do it with a great balance of the ingredients that you can still taste the tomato. The wings were great too. Except they didn't ask about the dressing. Never serve my wings with ranch.... Never ever. Minus one star for that. Next time blue cheese automatic or ask if I'd rather have another sauce. Rosemary fries. Wow. I hope this place lasts. I'll make a trip just to go here again. read more

Pizza is pretty good, 3.5 out of 5 stars. It used to be 4.5 stars, but it has gone down lately. Tonight, I went there for a large Cesar salad and a Philly sandwich, for the wife and I Took it home to eat. OK, the salad had no dressing. So you literally have romaine lettuce and a few croutons. There were about 8 strands of cheese. That's it. Philly was very dry, lacked cheese and anything to make the sandwich moist at all. Although it was listed as a 9 inch sandwich, the bread is only about an inch wide. So salad sucked, the sandwich was small, and lacking, and we're still hungry. read more

Good:Decent pizza for this area. It would be nice if they offered a two slice deal like Lefty's instead of just a one slice meal and soda. It ends up being quite expensive if you want two slices. We usually end up just ordering a whole pizza. Not so good: the service is awful. There is only one girl there who knows what she's doing. The rest of the staff is clueless about customer service and they lack training. It seems like a lot of young kids that have no experience communicating with people. The owners and their family are all so very nice and helpful! So sweet. I could tell you so many stories. But... You don't go to a pizza joint for sweet families. You go to get great pizza. Luckily, frank's has the best pizza I've had in San Diego. My family has gone about a dozen times now, and we rave or all of our friends. When was tell our friends we are going to Frank's all our friends, including our daughter's friends, beg to come along. I've never had anything but a great time there.
