The jumbo dog was good never ate a hot dog with lettuce before. Let me tell you. The day time hours are the best time to come here. I'm here now at one minute to midnight on a Saturday Night, and I promise and it won't be my selection of choice ever again. As I have searched my neighborhood for new dining options, I've only discovered the common fast food places such as Mcdonald's, KFC, and Popeyes. Englewood is definitely defined as a food desert, but Fred and Jack's does not lack on the food. If you're looking for the best fries in the world; this is the place. The fries are similar to Jim's Polishes near Chicago's Jew Town with the flavor of slightly sweet yet savory taste. Not only are the burritos loaded to the max with flavor, meat, and cheese, but guacamole is free. I love guacamole and Fred and Jack's has the freshest avocados- which brings me to their nachos. Their nachos are the epitome of Chicago-style nachos, but you can get their nachos as the authentic Mexican style. Simple tortilla rounds with golden cheese and meat for a great price. Or tortilla rounds with cheese, meat, peppers, sour cream, and anything you can imagine. As a Chicagoan, I have had many different forms of nachos. Ranging from Flamin' Hots with cheese, Doritos with cheese, and the traditional nachos with tortilla strips, and Fred and Jack's is by far the best for all types. Of course we've all had those days when you're too lazy to cook, so you order out. The only negative thing I have encountered is not being able to have the food delivered via UberEats or GrubHub. Personally, I enjoy the ability to call in to the restaurant and pick up my order. This allows you to get your food and go. The customer service is great, but the extra step is truly worth it especially when you're in a rush. Or you can walk in and order and experience the restaurant's special ambiance. Take a step inside and view the culture on the walls. From the signed picture of Muhammad Ali to the inspirational quotes, the overall restaurant is underrated and deserves to be recognized as a Chicago gem. Please keep in mind that this is not necessarily a dining restaurant. There is usually only standing room. Fred & Jack's is just okay nothing like it used to be the seems as though they do a good business cuz there's a line all the time and there but nothing like the old Fred & Jack's. The Italian beef is just ok the quality of the meat is not as good as it used to be in the red sauce theme to have changed from the way it was originally I mean that red sauce was so good I used to take cups of it home it was just the bomb. Since the change of ownership there's been a change in food product the service is still pretty good I don't frequent this place as much as I used to I might come to Fred & Jack's maybe twice a year and I don't live far away versus coming oh my goodness maybe for 3-4 times a month compared to back in the day. Nevertheless you do get what you pay for the service is great the food is not bad but its not as good as it used to be back in the day. This place usually gets crowded after 5 p.m. during the week, but since the service is fast, the wait is usually no longer than 10 minutes. Since the kitchen is surrounded in glass, you can watch as your food is being prepared. Currently, there's construction going on in the immediate area, so street parking isn't as plentiful as it once was.
