Ladies, look no further! This is definitely the salon for you in San Diego. My husband has been out of work for about 6 years, so I haven't had any "me money" for quite some time. Needless to say, my hair was very neglected. Frustrated, I broke out the scissors to give myself a trim. A word of warning...DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. After about an hour, I realized I had totally ruined my already neglected hair. I didn't know what to do, and was too embarrassed to go anywhere, but I had to do something! While searching online for a salon in San Diego, I came across the Frederick Michael Salon, and after reading the reviews, I somehow worked up the nerve to give them a call. I was in tears, telling Frederick that I had totally @#$%ed up my hair, and that I needed nothing short of a miracle to fix it. I asked him if there was anyone available at 11, and he said "We'll take care of you as soon as you get here". And that, they did! When I arrived, Zachary took me right in. He acknowledged that I had really screwed up my hair, but he was calm and confident, and just totally awesome! I left that salon looking and feeling beautiful and relaxed. I have a lot of hair and it's pretty thick so sometimes people get overwhelmed with it, but she knew exactly what she was doing. I love this place! Becky does my hair and she is AMAZING!!!!!! She is so sweet and funny and I love going to Frederick Michael salon just to chat with her! The Salon is beautiful. Everything is brand new and top of the line. The products they use are really good and they smell amazing. I always walk out of there feeling like a million bucks! My hair has never looked better. Beautiful salon! Rebeca cut and highlighted my hair and it looks and feels great! She took her time to make sure the cut was perfect and that I was satisfied with the results. She also offers discounts for time clients, ask her about it. Another bonus is that she does hair in a private room, so you don't have to worry about others looking at you with foil in your hair or listening to your conversations. I definitely recommend Rebeca! If you have kids, she also gives kids free haircuts up until the age 12. read more

This review is just for the manicurist Nella Jolliff. I've been going to her for over a year now. She does a great job every time. I specifically get shellac manicures from her and let me tell you, once you go shellac you will never go back, seriously. No chip, no smudges. One time I went with a friend to get a manicure at a nail salon in Mission Valley, paid over $15, chipped within 3 days. Never again! Besides the fact my nails grow out, the nail polish looks flawless. I get compliments on my nails weeks after I've had an appt with Nella. Her pedicures rock too. If I could give this place no stars I would. My only experience with this salon was getting my eyebrows waxed. I had an appointment and ended up waiting 40 mins on their couch while they didn't even ask if they could help me. I had to ask 2 different times for the lady that was doing my waxing. If that wasn't bad enough, the wax was so hot, it literally singed the skin right off of my eyebrows. I ended up with scabs under my eyebrows. Nice look right? Wrong. I made the mistake of cutting my bangs and they were the only place that could get me in right away on a Sunday evening and I ended up going back the following tuesday and getting a cut and color and it looks great! i was referred to rene jager at frederick michael hair salon by an a mutual acquaintance. after securing a parking space in the ridiculous parking lot (it was all worth it!) i walked into the salon and was greeted by rene. as an extremely "nervous only when getting my hairs cut" kind of person, i put my complete trust in to her ability (as our mutual friend has gorgeous hair!!). i showed rene pictures of a past haircut that i loved!! rene took the time needed to explain her techniques and how my hairs would be cut. she also commented on my 'virgin' hair (being that all i do to it was wash and go... no color, etc.) rene suggested i try highlighting my virgin hair. i was very, very hesitant to consider a 'change'. but, rene convinced me!! CURTIS V - I have African American hair - used to get relaxers and am not anymore. My hair was a hot mess(dry,tangled,broken) and in desperate need of cut . I called the salon same day looking to see if anyone was available as I had an event later that day. Curtis V gratuitously agreed to help last minute! He is WONDERFUL !!! I'm going to rate this salon on two things- the overall ambience and the individual stylist, Jackie. The salon is huge but it's super clean and your stylist doesn't have to fight for a sink or dryer for you. Another stylist made my husband an americano while he waited for me and he was quite happy with it (that's saying a lot if you know my husband and his taste for coffee). Jackie was amazing! She knows curly hair and we talked for a bit about my hair, my habits of care, and what I wanted before you started. She was polite and funny. She talked me through products and how to care for my natural black coil curly hair. She wasn't trying to sell me on expensive products and instead told me abut products I can find easily on Amazon. I live in Alaska and do not have access to anyone to do my hair or even talk about my hair with. I feel like I know what my hair needs now and can take good care of it until it's next trim. He always listens to what I want, even when he doesn't necessarily agree with my "ideas." He does it anyway, most of the time he is right, but when he likes what I want he will be the first to admit it! He has fabulous style and a great entertainer. I am always super nervous getting my hair cut - I mean it's not as if it wont grow back but I just hate walking out of a salon feeling like ahhhrrr I can't wait to fix this when I get home. On top of that it was a whim born of frustration with my hair - I simply bought a Groupon and took a giant leap of faith. Leeland Tatta was the stylist whose name came up on the groupon so I did a bit of research on Yelp and he had good reviews so I made the appointment. The salon is on the south side of the 8 so it was just a little tricky to get to but parking was nice and easy. It's also a really huge salon but with interesting rooms for privacy during the coloring process, washing, drying etc. Had a posh vibe but without the snobbery. There was a minor mix up with my appointment but they more than made up for it. Leeland was a delight - I totally enjoyed my time in the chair with him and he gives a great shampoo/massage. He really listened to what I wanted and was careful to tell me exactly how to duplicate the look at home but also said it would be fine just shampooing, fluffing and going. Horrible experience here , went to a lady to owns a salon inside of here named Maryland. Had to come back and make her redo my lace front three weeks after I had got it installed by her. first of all she didn't even know what she was doing she got glue all in my lace and in my hair (REAL hair as well) when I told her from the jump that I didn't want glue I wanted it sewed in, didn't bleach the knots , didn't tweeze the lace basically didn't do anything that I asked her to do, had to have two-three other people helping her, telling her what to do (myself included) . When I came back she STILL wasn't listening to what I had asked , is very lazy and had an attitude with me because she had to fix what she fucked up. Would never recommend her to absolutely anyone & never will I go back to her. Waste of $200 that I unfortunately can not get back. read more
