Bit pricey, did replace fuel pump and starter for my 2000 mustang base. They charged me $700 only for those jobs. I had no choice since my car was towed to this place at the first time. This is my first time, and yes they are honest. I had an oil change, but I believe in buy my products before going in. It costed more, but then I know exactly what oil is going into my vehicle. I will be going back again, I like the people and the service they give. It true they are busy, but that why they are busy people like going to a place they can trust. I have had motor mounts changed twice on my Nissan Sentra after they car accident, brakes are all new and roters changed too. Two places recommended changing my tires, which i did yesterday. The car is shaking, but not as much. Maybe getting close to what is wrong with the vehicle. Going back to Fred's and have them check again. I have never been more amazed than I was with my experience at Fred's. We were faithful customers for years when we lived in the La Mirada area and have since moved to the Northern Glendale area. Recently, I made the long trek back to Fred's to have the oil changed on our old SUV and have them look at the A/C system. When I returned to pick up the vehicle, the crew had changed the oil and diagnosed the AC problem and charged the AC system (which was now ICY cold!). With gratitude, I noticed that they only charged me the minimum amount possible and did not even include the charge of all their time spent looking for the AC problem. As I was leaving, the gent helping me said, "I hope you don't mind but we noticed that your headliner in the interior of the car was coming down, so we fixed it for you." Also, they went on to tell me that they had secured the back bumper which was coming loose and fitted the dashboard so that there were no gaps. All for free. All looks amazing. I came here because of the great Yelp reviews, I needed a mechanic I could trust. They worked on my car on and off for over a year. I have a 2006 Nissan Murano, it's not a piece of junk. It was stalling frequently, it was unsafe and need only a couple sensors replaced, including a fuel sensor. I authorized repairs while working out of state and had my daughter drop off the car. In a nutshell, they never found the problem. They had convinced me to completely rewire the car, replace motor mounts, brakes, etc, etc, everything else... They did replace a sensor, but not the right one and tried to tell me the part was bad, they did this three times, they also did this with motor mounts. Meanwhile, the car is still stalling and all the while the check engine light was on, You think this would be an indication of a problem right? no, they would just clear it and after $4000 worth of erroneous repairs and on my return from my job out of state, I drive the car and it still stalls, the same exact thing I bought in for months previously. Needless to say, I was pissed. I finally had them tow the car to the dealer, it was diagnosed and needed two sensors replaced. It also needed four motor mounts, the same ones Fred's had already supposedly fixed. The new repairs were costly and pretty much the same things Fred's had done. I met with Fred and was only able to recover about $1500 of what I spent there all year on their erroneous repairs. I wasn't going to leave a review but noticed recently when my battery went dead, that they even removed my six-year battery that I purchased at Auto Zone when I took the battery in to be checked, it wasn't my battery. They switched it out for a crappy one. They stole my battery! That was the straw that broke this camel's back. Don't get fooled as they play the "Christian" card! I will never go there, I will never refer them. They can't touch my car with a ten-foot pole. They are NOT good mechanics. I felt that they wasted my time and my daughter's and ripped me off. read more

Unfortunately, I was charged 600$ and my car was not fixed. I don't like leaving negative reviews but I felt compelled to do so as my car spent 3 days at this mechanic and I had to spend a large amount of money. Fred is the best!!!! First time I took my car there in 2005 a local rip off radiator place told me I needed a head gasket. There was a slight leak, so I thought maybe that tied in with it. Fred said it was just a hose - so it was a cheap repair. Instead of doing a head gasket and charging me 800 dollars (which he could have easily done with me not knowing the better) Fred did the honest thing. And has done so dozens of time since then. My parent's took their 3 cars in. One was a Chevy s10, another a Malibu, and last a Suburban. They did minimal service to these cars. They had radiator service. After taking them to this mechanic they were overheating and two of them cracked the block. In the end we sold the s10, the Malibu is at another mechanic, and the Suburban had minimal repair. I went to Fred's this past week - my first time there. My check engine lift was on and I had been quoted $880 to replace the faulty sensor at a Ford dealership on Beach Blvd. certain that I could find a lower quote, I took the advice of my fellow biolaa graduate friends and went to Fred's. After dropping my truck off at 7am, they promptly called me later that morning and informed me that the repair would cost $250 - labor included. My mind was blown. That wasn't the last surprise, however. An hour later, I got a call that my sensor was fine and the problem was faulty wiring. The grand total? $80. I've never been to a mechanic as HONEST as these guys - who calls a customer just to charge them less money? I'm so impressed. Fred's Automotive is the most honest shop I've ever been to. I met with David. He seemed honest and wanted to make sure I was taken care of. I let him know what the problem was, and they fixed it (simple disc brake replacement). They also took care of cleaning the rear drums. I also got an oil change. Unfortunately, I'm leaking oil now. Ill be taking it back in Monday for them to fix. Overall though, for any repair, ill take it back. General oil changes, I'll take elsewhere just because they are busy. read more

Very disappointed with the service I received. I had to get my radiator replaced due to a leak. I figured it would be a pricey job and I understood that. It ended up being $506.13. What irritates me about the service however is that when I picked up my car I checked the coolant and it was less than half full but I was charged for coolant replacement. Also when I got in my car to leave I noticed it was hard to turn the wheel. I checked my power steering and it was bone dry. But I took it in with full fluids and had no leak prior to going in. They flagged the job for $240 worth of labor. I have personally replaced a radiator myself before and it only takes about and hour. $240 seems much more than an hour work of work. When I went to pay the bill I brought this all up and nothing was worked out I still had to pay the full amount and later had to buy my own coolant and power steering fluid. If I'm paying for a service do it properly and complete. Also upset with leaving with a problem I didn't have when I took it in. read more
