So we have been to Fred's numerous times for take out beer. Today was the day we stopped for lunch after a long day on the beach. We arrived around 3:00. Parking was a bit difficult, meter parking on the island can be tough. We were sat inside immediately. As for the food it was good. My burger was cooked to perfection and the condiments were fresh. The bun was a bit over toasted. The fries weren't as crispy as we would have liked. My wife's wedge was fresh and delicious. Our daughter had fried mozzarella and French onion soup. She seemed to enjoy both. There were only 2 other tables in the restaurant. Our waitress made our lunch not so great. She was miserable! We couldn't tell you her name, she never told us. She didn't smile, didn't offer refills, nothing! It was some of the worst service we've had in quite some time. From the service alone, we will not be back. 2 stars for the food and 0 for service. read more

Came here twice. The first time was decent but I'm never going back after what happened during my second visit. I tried placing a pickup order and my friend and i tried calling the place 6 times in total from both of our phones but no one picked up. We decided to just place the order when we arrived. When we got there the hostess told us to place our takeout order at the bar. So we did and we placed an order for just a side of fries. Nothing else. I paid with my card and left a cash tip. The fries were about $5 and i left a $2 tip. We got our takeout order and everything seemed fine. But then a few days later after i checked my bank statement i was shocked to see that i was charged $21!!! It may have been a slip up but they should have realized that they made a mistake and attempted to fix it instead of charging me $16 more than i should have paid in the first place. read more

Late Summer, early is Fall is usually catch as catch can for a decent restaurant meal on the Jersey Shore. Many of the brand names are closed for the season and too many of the remainder that are open shouldn't be. Then there's Fred's Tavern. After a few hours of walking around a thinned-out 96th Street (save for a few drunken Snookie/JWoww wannabe wedding receptioneers spilling onto the sidewalk from The Reeds) we wandered into Fred's honestly not expecting much except run-of-the-mill bar food. What we got was a meal that was unexpected as it was memorable. Normally a pedestrian mix such as a spring salad, Manhattan clam chowder, a cheeseburger and a turkey club leaves no culinary fingerprints whatsoever. I can't tell you when I have had better soup or a club sandwich that was literally bursting out of delectable rye toast. For my wife's part, in one bite of her cheeseburger she suddenly morphed from obnoxious scold for cheapskating her to a "bar" for dinner to grateful supplicant singing my praises for an inspired choice. I love when that happens. You'll love it too, Fred's is a winner. read more

How can you not love this place?! If you live on the east coast, chances are that you've seen a bright colored Fred's t-shirt in the wild. Come here for the liquor store and shirt ($15-20 range) and head to the bar for drinks. Don't let the unlit sign fool you. Previously a dive, this place has been renovated for the better. With karaoke nights, live signing and trivia, there's always something going on. The food is decent and the draft beer is good. This place gets pretty crowded on late summer weekends, so prepare for standing room only. Pro tip: love weddings? Come here on ANY Saturday night in the summer and you're sure to see at least one bride stumbling in a little tipsy from her wedding at the Reeds. This is literally my favorite past time. read more

Like that moment if you were to enter a restaurant 2 minutes before closing when the grill has already been cleaned... The server (she) was Not excited to see us. But the lunch was amazing. The wrap was excellent and the fries had flavor and crispy and not greasy. It was clean. The server was polite.

In a very ritzy town, hellava place to have fun. They actually put alcohol in their drinks unlike some places. When I arrive there, before I get drunk I crush either a cheesesteak or pizza steak. I actually think they're one of the best in the country. Any food there is good. Bartenders are cool, doesn't get too crowded and the music is not bleeding your ears like Sea Isle or Wildhood. Solid spot to grab a beer and eat some bar food. We sat outside on the little patio and our server was quick and very attentive. We started off with the quesadilla and it was absolutely stuffed with chicken, onions, & peppers. Definitely did not skimp on the quesadilla fillings like a lot of restaurants do. Never thought I'd order a cheesesteak outside of Philly, but for our meal we had the French onion cheesesteak, which was actually pretty good. I've been coming to Stone Harbor for the last four years. Typically when we come to Stone Harbor we eat a lot of meals at the rental house because the area is very expensive. We tried Fred's Tavern this past Labor Day weekend and we were blown away by the atmosphere, service, quality of food, and the reasonable prices. We ate there twice that weekend. Once I ordered a burger which was AMAZING. Burgers are everything! And the next time I ordered a salad which was also very very good. There is something special about their fries. They have something a little extra. We plan on making Fred's our go-to when in town. The prices really are much more reasonable for better quality food than anywhere else we've been to in Stone Harbor. read more

Great food at some of the best prices on the island!! The best part is, their portions are very generous too. We've gotten Fred's the past two nights in a row and everything was delicious. Things are going downhill at Fred's. First, while the food was never great, it was ok. Not anymore. Had a peach and goat cheese salad, and it was canned peaches! At the Jersey Shore, in July. Start with the non-smiling hostess who is chewing gum in your face as you politely ask for a table. So rude, and so unprofessional. But worse yet is the waitress. What a miserable person. Between their Avalon location and this location, I'm starting to think this one may be better since it's more organized. The wine selection seems to be the same at both locations. Accompanying this location is Fred's Tavern. Serving up food and drinks, this place can get pretty lively late in the summer on Sundays during Eagle games. What I said about there Avalon location, I can say about this location as well really... Whenever I need a good wine at a slightly marked up price, I know I can count on Fred's to come through for me. It is especially handy for the BYOB restaurants in the area. Fred's is a solid spot for drinks and food in Stone Harbor. The selection of beer is small but there are a few craft options. The menu covers all the basics: appetizers, salads, sandwiches, etc. My buffalo chicken wrap was delicious and just the right size for lunch. I substituted fries for chips and the fries had a nice coating of seasoning and were served hot and crisp. I ordered a bottled beer and it was served ice cold, just the way I like it. Our server wasn't overly friendly and I felt like I was putting her out every time I asked for something. Tonight they were very unorganized and took very long to get our food and we found out our order was not put in...after we finished the appetizer. Not the servers fault just because I believe she was one of the bar backs for the smaller bar but it was just very unorganized.
