    My opinion

I really hate that I have to do this. I gave Chris and Freedom AC a five star rating after he did an a/c mini split.Which I posted. When I first called him, he said $200 when he walked in my backyard and looked at it then he said it'll be $300. OK, I just wanted to get it done so I said yes. Most AC guys don't like to work on Owner installed units, which is understandable. I needed Chris to pull a vacuum and get it running. He told me I did a good installation. Just not quite up to Code. Gave it a quick run through and Chris left. It turns out it wasn't actually working. So he came out the next day with a service call of $100. Still couldn't figure it out so we figured it was a defective unit. In the meantime, I'd called the seller and he'd be back in a week. A week passes, the seller Pablo comes to my house, figures out the problem, no special tools needed. Chris had made a small mistake no big deal. So it seemed to me a partial refund was in order. $200. After all Chris was paid $400 and didn't fix the unit. We discussed it,he basically said he doesn't make mistakes like that so no money. So I asked him, what did I get for my $400?? He's ghosted me ever since. I Also thought this worth mentioning, Chris told me while he was here he could give me a good deal on putting central AC 1600 square-foot house quoted $25,000 including replacing the ducts and registers. He also told me for $5000, He would put another one in my master bedroom, considering it only took me four hours to install the unit in question, and I'd never done it before, that seemed awfully steep. Then, after going back to his website I found he had an advertised special of only about $9000. But no new ducting Included. It's like he throws out the highest price He thinks he can get. He's a Five Star player in most every way. But he needs to realize he CAN make mistakes

Scheduled an appointment with a window from 1-3PM. Technician didn't arrive on time or call. Followed up and Chris came out himself after another half an hour. After the initial diagnosis, it was determined to be a failed capacitor. I was recommended to replace the capacitor as well as install a "hard start" kit. (This is essential another capacitor with a relay) and a cleaning service. Although the service did bring the compressor back, the price seemed a bit steep. The total parts cost may have been around 100-120 bucks. While the total bill came out to 1283. I'd estimate that I was roughly charged 1100 for an hours worth of labor (conservatively). Here's the kicker, I opened up the panel and the capacitor that was put in didn't even look new - the label was worn and faded. I get there's a cost of doing business and would love to support local businesses, but this one seemed excessive. My fault for being an uninformed consumer.

This is NOT the BOSCH that I paid for.

I made the mistake of giving this company a large deposit for a new Heat Pump HVAC system in November. After being assured by Chris Steckler "You will have your Bosch before you know it", on January 7th, I've been completely ghosted. I've phoned and texted numerous phone contacts, and sent multiple emails to various addresses requesting he contact me to schedule. Crickets. I'm upset because he seemed trustworthy, but now I'll have to try and reclaim my money for no work done. I'm hoping maybe he sees this review and offers SOME attempt to make it right. Edit 03/10/25: Still zero response.

Here is the new AC unit Chris installed.

Kirk was FANTASTIC! Our unit is 20 years old, we have never really had regular maintenance on it. He showed up super early (they asked if that was okay, and YES thank you). Before he arrived they sent a text with his name and photo. I absolutely love this! That extra safety is so important. Kirk looked at our unit and asked some questions. He explained all they do with the "family plan" so we signed up. I am one of those that needs to be reminded of scheduled upkeep so this is perfect. He gave us the estimate before he started and I asked for a very rough estimate of a new unit (having no idea) so we decided to go with repair and hope for the best. The repair wasn't cheap but considering all the work that needed to be done as well as it being an older unit, I feel it was a very fair price. I think we did have the best with Kirk. He was able to repair our unit and give it some much needed TLC for our AC unit and furnace. He even installed our pre-purchased thermostat! Kirk was polite and considerate. He took time to answer all of our questions and ensured us that we could reach out with any questions, I believe him. Service people can often be rushed, there is a lot of work out there, but not Kirk. He didn't waste time either, I felt like he was in and out in no time at all. By the time he left we understood all that was done and what we need to do to get some additional service from our current unit. I could not be happier with the call I made this morning. I picked the right people to call!

Someone was scheduled to come out two days later. However, at the end of the call I was informed that Veteran Air was no longer in business and had been acquired by Dial One. I thought it was a bit odd that they waited to long to tell me considering I told them I was referred by a prior customer. Anyway, two guys showed up on the early end of the window and did their thing. I was told I would have a quote by end of day and they would follow up with me to go over the quote and answer questions. Five days later, I haven't heard a word. Weird way to conduct business. If they didn't want the job, they could have told me when they were on site.

Graciously, he took my feedback of asking his team to leave voicemails (or text) to help resolve some of the miscommunication. Thankfully Frankie and Edwin were able to squeeze us back in this afternoon and completed the scheduled work. They were incredibly pleasant, apologetic and kind. We have a couple of visits left for the HERS inspection (along with Rebel Air staff) and the City inspection. Looking forward to a hopefully smooth closeout to this project. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I hate to leave this review, because everything had initially gone very well with our project. We spent well over $20k to do ductwork, put in a new HVAC system in and add a mini split. The initial visit with Johnny was wonderful and he did a great job explaining the work and provided a competitive quote compared the other estimates we received. He also provided great recommendations on additional registers/vents to balance out our airflow. Those were installed, but instead of the additional vent he originally suggested in our west-facing living room, one was added in the kitchen, making the kitchen very cold but the living room very warm. The work took longer than the original 5 days planned (about 7-8 days), but they did a great job cleaning up after. This was in March 2026. It is now July 2026. During the initial estimate, Johnny had indicated that they were happy to come by to adjust dampers as needed, and Vincent was very helpful with that although advised that we need to rotate the TDuct feeding into the kitchen/living room to better balance the airflow. The work wasn't done correctly to begin with, but we are ok with that solution if it helps the situation. When the HERS inspectors came to help finalize the City permit in April, they noted that none of the caulking was done. This morning we had an appointment from 8-10am to do the caulking and rotate the TDuct that I am taking time off of work to do. I called in past 9am to get a status update but I'm told a representative (Edwin) knocked and called but left when no one answered. I was in the back doing a bit of yardwork with my phone on me - several calls, including spam came in, but no voicemails. No videos from our doorbell or cameras out front show anyone coming to the door or up the walkway. I have texted Andrea to get a status update or reschedule and am waiting to hear back. Given that the initial interaction was positive, I hope that this is a fluke and a dropped ball with the miscommunication this morning and not a lack of interest on Rebel Air's part since they have already been fully paid. I hope to finalize this project soon and finish the permit with the City.
