I was having a bit of a slight hunger and I asked my friend if there was any place that he would suggest to have a light meal. He asked if I liked crepes and I said, "Yes I am human, I like crepes!" So off we went for crepes. When we got here the aura of trying to hard to be classy was heavy. Also the prices were a bit on the high side as if it was a 3 star Michelin joint. It wasn't! I opted for something savory, so I had the chicken pesto and my friend had the sour cherry. Mine was meh. It was savory and pesto was really good, I should have opted not to have the spinach. What I should have ordered was the sour cherry. I tried some of my friend's and it was amazing. What was wrong with me to pick savory over sweet? The service is self serve, so don't expect that. Stumbled upon this place while I was in Salem for a day. Cute little town, may I add. I needed coffee stat when I was in town. Went to yelp for help! This place was open, close to where I was and looked promising. Not too bad, Salem, not too bad. I got my mocha with a tad of hazelnut, and it was tasty. Thumbs up. My friends and I enjoyed our drinks with some crepes. Two of us got the strawberry crepe (one with nutella) and the other got the veggie crepe. The custard in the strawberry crepe was a surprise to me. Tasted pretty good! I've had a good amount of crepes in my lifetime and that was the first time I had that much custard in it. It's usually ice cream. Super good! The veggie crepe was also scrumptious. Made perfectly. Nothing raw nor burnt. Just right! The ambiance of the place was comfortable too. I honestly like the feel I got when I went inside. Comfortable, and gave you a city feeling. (since its a small town and all from what im used to). Obviously France everything inside. My brother, sister-in-law and niece (the most beautiful, athletic and smart 7 month old in the world) just moved to Salem from North Carolina (as in last week). He (my brother) finally no longer owes his soul to the United States Army (after seven years (hooray!)). Like Sherrie C., I am also glad I didn't read the Yelp reviews, because I likely wouldn't have gone here, which would have been too bad, because we all really enjoyed it. We got a wide variety of crepes (two veggie, one make-your-own, and two sweet (bananas foster and some berry one)), a blueberry scone, a bagel with scallion and garlic cream cheese, a "French Press Hot Cocoa," a decaf three-cup french press, a mocha and a cappucino. Since moving to town I've swung by here basically every other day. While I'm not much of a coffee drinker, I can say that they're mochas, lattes, and smoothies have all been good. Crepes are solid, too (the peach ones are my favorite). There is definitely a stronger Starbucks-y vibe than I would prefer but the free wifi, kind employees, and extremely inviting patio more than makeup for that. read more

I had the Berry Crepe and it wasn't bad! The presentation was lovely, but for being about $10 it was not worth it in my opinion. My overall dish was not warm enough. The compote was lukewarm and the whip cream tasted like ReddiWip from Safeway:/ the fruit was sweet and added a nice twang, but that was about it. The compote wasn't overly sweet which was nice, but it would've been 10x better if it was warmer. The cream that filled the crepe was subtle, which was the right idea to add another component, but it didn't hit the nail on the head. It was just subtle enough that it was a bit bland in my mouth. One thing that was quite different was the strange flavor with the crepe itself. I tasted a savory flavor almost like a potato or an onion! But it definitely did not belong in my sweet crepe! It led me to believe that the person making the crepes didn't properly clean the "hot plate" and it hindered the flavors of the dish. My other complaint was the seating because it was quite tight. The seating area to the left of the door was not arranged in the best manner. It was impractical and required me to squeeze around chairs to avoid bumping people. Overall I gave The French Press 3 stars because it was just okay! But again, I did only have one thing on their menu. For it being my first experience here, I would have hoped for something more. read more

I go in there and I ask what's the soup of the day and they don't even know so they ask the cook and the cook says sorry no soup. So then I try ordering the croissant Benedict and they tell me they're out of croissants. Wow. I should've just left right then. I ended up ordering the Black Forest panini but after wanting the other two food items the sandwich really just didn't cut it. The cook was nice enough to bring me the food. But I had also ordered a coffee and they couldn't even be bothered to tell me it was ready it was just sitting there. If you're not gonna bring me my drink then why not tell me at the counter when I ordered where the coffee will be when it's finished? When I went in it wasn't even busy. I could get why I got crappy service if it was busy but on a slow day instead of talking and standing around how about giving better service. Also the salmon Alfredo is so fishy it's inedible. Ok we normally love this place, and I don't like writing bad reviews. But today they gave us a smoothie with broken glass pieces in it, that we got for our 4 year old. She had a drink first, then my husband drank some, and he got 2 pieces of glass. He went in to complain, and they said the blender broke while they were making the smoothie, so they dumped it, and made another smoothie in the same broken blender. They said they rinsed it but the pieces may have been stuck under the blade. Why were they still using a broken blender??? We bought this for our 4 year old, so I'm not sure if she had already drank any shards of glass. Had my husband not taken a drink, she would have kept drinking it and wouldn't have known any different. They tried giving us a gift card, but I just wanted a refund. Every time I come here I am thoroughly satisfied with the food. The crepes or the sandwiches. I usually sit at the bar top and read/write and can't help but see how the staff work. They are attentive and friendly and are indicative of something right in the company's culture. The food is tasty. The coffee is just right. They don't try to be cool or hip, they just put out an exceptional product with great service. Hard to beat that. If I had to come up with one negative, and it is a minor one, is that a large coffee drink gets cold very fast in the ceramic containers they are served in. Wide top and heat transferring container. I'm I the habit of placing a small plate atop the mug to gain a few minutes of warmth. Can't go wrong here. Consistently wonderful. read more

They have a great out door seating area that I love to sit on in the summer. My favorite thing to get there is the Rico the explorer coffee and the chocolate banana crepes or the loaded breakfast( which is like a breakfast burrito but in a crepe). I've been here about 7 or 8 times now, half inside, half drive thru. I tried my first crepe here a couple of days ago, the smoked salmon and asparagus and oh dear was it good. I can't believe I've denied trying one for so long. I have lost time to make up. It also happened to be a perfect visit overall. A close friend and I went for a late mid afternoon lunch. We sat in front of the gas fireplace with big white mugs of hot chocolate. The whole place smelled wonderful and it was only lightly busy. Our crepes were delivered by a smiling young man after we watched him make them. The food was great, the hot chocolate perfectly made, the fireplace and a long, in depth conversation. Aw... I just want to repeat then repeat again. I've heard it gets crowded and loud on weekends, so don't go then if you don't like that, I never will. The drive thru is not the quickest one you'll ever go through but if you're going to spend upwards of 5-6 bucks on a beverage, why not get a really good one? It's not something I do regularly, so I want it be good. My plan now is to slowly work my way through the entire crepe menu. read more

When you ask them to remake the 6$ coffee because it tastes horrible, almost like it was burnt and their response is "that is impossible because we never heat it above 180." And the other worker says "that's weird. Hmmm it's not possible because we don't heat it above 160." I'm not saying you suck at your job or some obviously outrageous claim, just fix the flipping coffee. It's not you, it's me, really. "You're probably not used to our light brew so it tastes different." Well, you're right it's a light roast and I prefer the dark, but that's not going to be the difference between drinking liquid poo and a cup of sweet relief from life's demands. I was very excited to try this place and was sorely disappointed. I called to order pickup and the lady who answered was not necessarily rude, but she was not friendly either and it did not leave a good impression. While this is not that big of a deal, it set the tone for my experience, which did not get better. My boyfriend picked up the order. He was waiting by the counter while the only female employee (probably the same one who answered me) helped someone else. When they were done, she just walked away. A different employee saw my bf waiting and helped him - this man was very friendly. He got the food home and we were given the wrong drinks! The lady on the phone read my order back to me and I am very disappointed we received tea instead of the espresso drinks we ordered. We also got crepes, which were very subpar. The vanilla filling in the strawberry crepe was bland and the strawberries were hard and flavorless. Bf got the apple caramel crepe which was also bland, and the apples were too sour to eat. I got to sit and watch my food sitting on the counter for 15 minutes while the staff lady with the headset on sat and chatted with her friends in the dining area... after seeing the steam dwindle from the food and accepting that my order would not be brought to me, I inquired with the cook about the food on the counter. Sure enough it was mine... there were 4 other staffers behind the counter, but the guess the drive through customers were more important... the cook was no very and apologetic, the staffers just ignored my presence... had it honestly not been for the cook, very kind Hispanic man, I would've demanded a refund and took off... What this place lacked in service (not including the awesome cook guy of course) they made up in taste and quality of food. I was pleased with the meal as was my girlfriend. Probably would've been more satisfying when it was freshly off the grill (which the cook did indeed offer to do... see the theme here? The cook has better ethic and is more customer savvy then the staffers who are suppose to do that job) So if you're into great tasting food but crappy service from everyone other than the cook staff, this is the place for you... If they hired better staff for the dining and order taking area, this place would be flawless and highly recommended... but hey, as it is now, you'll know what to expect, thus having a better experience...
