Casual, Friendly Version Very cute place! My friend's niece told us to try it, and she was right. I got the chicken and waffles with collard greens -- so good (just not into the hot honey). My friend had the hot chicken sandwich with homemade pimento and loved it, and the omelet was great too. We split the beignets for dessert -- just like New Orleans! Just returned from French Toast Bistro in Clawson and they didn't disappoint. I had the Florentine vegan omelette, and it was packed with everything from mushrooms to greens....Along with some nice size pieces of turkey sausages, which were very tasty. And the grits were so creamy & flavorful, but it just wasn't enough for the cost.But other than that, I really enjoyed the atmosphere & ambiance of this place....The service was rather quick, waitress was pleasant & attentive, I will come here again and make it a recommendation to some friends. read more

I went there on a Friday morning after Book club with 6 other ladies. I waned a place in the sun cause it was a nice day. but after the staff pushed 3 tables together, the rest of the bunch waned to sit in the shade. So we moved. The food was delish, I had the acadian benedict with fried green tomatoes and hollandaise sauce. But, the service was atrocious. I ordered a bloody mary, and drank it all up the server asked me if I wanted another one, I said no, then the wait was so long I did order another one. It finally came with the food, all in all we were there 2hours for lunch. Good menu, just don't go with a group! and also they added 18% to the bill. read more

I absolutely LOVE this charming, nicely decorated place. I've been twice. I had the sausage and biscuits on one visit, and the gumbo and fried green tomatoes on the second. My husband visited for the first time and had a fluffy, well made omelet. Everything is fresh and delicious. They really care about the quality and presentation of the food.The service is very attentive. Portions are generous and the cocktails are also excellent. Patronized his business today during the snowfall...it was very good! I wasn't surprised because my partner had been here before and she wouldn't return if it weren't. When she comes in from Atlanta and mentions the French Toast Bistro, it has to be good. I was satisfied (full) with my plate. Jamie (our server) was very cordial and attentive. When we were finished with our meals, i asked her to tel the chef how good it was. He came out and discovered it was he owner also (Ben). I've eaten countless brunches in this building, and I'm glad to find that French Toast Bistro is going to provide excellent food so I can continue to walk to this nearby location. They have decorated the inside in a clean and unique way. Very nice atmosphere. My home away from home is New Orleans, so I was hesitant to compare. I got the hash, and the flavors were spot on, but not terribly authentic to New Orleans. But that's ok!!! Good tasting food is always a treat! read more

Unfortunately I have to leave what some may view as a bad review. From my experience personally I called and ordered over the phone an order of chicken and waffles I was told it would be 15 minutes at about 10:30. I left my house at 10:50 and got there by 11. When I walked in, two of their employees walked past without greeting me, the hostess told me that I must go to the bar to pick up my food which was not a big deal for me. I then went to the bar and talked to another lady and she told me that I have to wait for the bartender to finish doing what he was doing so that I could pay for my food. When the bartender finally got done dealing with what he was doing because he was busy making drinks he told me that my food was still not ready. For me I don't understand why it has to be a bartender that helps me cash out when everybody in the restaurant is capable of cashing anybody out so for me that type of customer service lost some points for me. Shortly after I was told by another man that the food was actually being bagged up and he'll go get it so I thought I had hope, he returned with my food in his hand. He tied it up without packaging everything and he got distracted with another customer before handing me my food and cashing me out. I had to wait for his entire conversation to end with the other customer just so that he could tell the bartender that my food was there and that he could cash me out. I don't understand what it is about this bartender, but he must be the best cash handler in the business. After having my food held hostage, I looked inside only to see that the portion for my potatoes looked a little small. I don't like to complain so I left I paid and it was $16.96. I gave the bartender a tip because I felt like he was working hard. I got home and then decided to eat now this is where I guess the review gets a little worse. I first tried this the small portion of potatoes that I was given, and it did not meet expectations. I asked for my potatoes to be cooked well done they were lightly cooked and others were done past well done the texture tasted like wet paper towel. The flavor was OK. I give the potatoes a 5 out of 10. The chicken looked amazing. The outside looked very crispy. It looked like it was flavorful. It was a dark brown color like how you like your fried chicken. When I bit into it, I was definitely taken aback. This chicken reminded me of a frozen Parmesan chicken that you would cook, but instead of putting it in the oven or microwave you fried it. The flavor didn't seem like it was seasoned. The texture was good but overall the chicken was not good without the hot honey sauce and even the hot honey sauce was very watery in its consistency. I give the chicken a 4.5 out of 10 and I gave the hot honey sauce at 7 out of 10. Now the waffle, it was absolutely not good at all, the texture of the waffle was probably the same as wet cardboard. One side was completely soggy, and the top was barely crispy at all. Everybody likes the waffle different, if you like a very soft and mushy, but yet chewy waffle, this might be for you, but for me this was the worst textured waffle I've had from eating out in a while. I guess the portion sizes weren't so bad but knowing that I could go elsewhere and spend $17 and get so much more food that would probably be cooked the correct way that I wanted it kinda left me feeling a little bummed out. Overall, customer service was about a 5. I will give them the benefit of the doubt they were a little busy. It is overly crowded inside the restaurant because it is so small and they try to fit as many tables as they can. I understand it may be a business move, but it's definitely not comfortable in there. The food overall probably about a 5 or 4.5 as well. Would I go back? Probably to try to give them a second chance, but I would never order the chicken and waffles ever again. Shout out to the bartender who seemed like he was working really hard other than that I was very displeased. read more

I have been there twice and cant wait to go back. Every diner is greeted at the door as if they were family. I tasted different foods on both occasions the stuffed french toast and baked french toast are beyond decadent. The pancakes are light fluffy and huge. The vegetables in the omelet are delicious and don't get lost in egg and chesse. The biscuits tasted homemade Would highly recommend giving them a try. They also serve lunch and dinner. read more

I was excited to try this place with my daughter. The food was good but the service was disappointing. We sat for about 25 min before even getting water or acknowledged. We did make reservations. It was busy but not that busy when we arrived to where it would take that long to be acknowledged. The waitresses were standing and talking in a group vs helping the tables. When I needed a refill the waitress talked to me across the place to get me a refill. Never came to the table to see if we needed after we got our food. read more

Clearly understaffed, while owner of place sat at the bar entertaining 3 friends/aquaintances not turning his head once to see that 11 tables were being waited on by only 2 ladies. One who was also the bartender/hostess and waitress tending to the owner and friends serving drinks and apps. This place just opened less than a couple weeks ago. You would expect exceptional service....not so, here. For a Bistro, ambiance was cold and stark white not warm, unique and inviting one would expect for a bistro. Food is okay. Not great, but not bad as well. What we had would not make me say, "I can't wait to try this place again." I asked our waitress if the guy at the bar was the owner/mgr. I understand the restaurant was busy but waiting 50+ minutes for our order, all of which was as ordered as on the menu (in other words, no special orders), is really unacceptable. Our waitress and all of the servers were very sweet and accommodating, but no one apologized for the excessive delay. Once the food arrived, it was hot, well presented, and pretty good. This is one of my favorite brunch spots. I have been to all three locations and never been disappointed. Each time trying a new dish. At the Clawson location I had the fried green tomatoes Benedict and it was yummy. The service was good. The place had only been opened for 5 weeks. customer service was good. no complaints there. the food took a while to come out which on a busy Sunday is understandable, but then I had to wait for a fork since one wasn't included in the napkin. then when I finally got to dive into my meal, my poached eggs were over cooked and nothing was seasoned much at all. all in all, it was average. So I'm well aware of the excellent ratings this place is receiving- but honestly I don't get it. We called about 5 minutes before arriving to ask it there was a wait- "no wait for 2". When we arrived they asked if we had a reservation (no) and asked if we would sit at the bar- no big deal, but plenty of tables were open and it felt like they wanted to keep those open. At first, things seemed great. Attentive bartender/waitress, quickly greeted, menu intro and specials presented. The menu looked great. The descriptions of each dish sounded like what you would expect from a scratch or farm to table restaurant. We were told they were a "scratch kitchen and bar" which is always a huge plus. The key point here is that they tell you everything is made from scratch, and want to promote it- clearly. We ordered 2 of the Benedict breakfasts- mine was the crab cake version and my wife's was another variety- I think with avocado and Dearborn ham. We were asked if eggs "poached" was acceptable and said yes. It took a good 20 minutes to get our food. Dishes looked good, but the eggs were cooked completely solid- not poached as you would expect with a "Benedict" dish. They were almost hard boiled in texture, and slightly warm. My crab cakes had almost no flavor, and very little crab. They tasted like mostly "filler". The English Muffin wasn't an EM at all- it was toasted white bread. Greens were fine, but the potato pancake tasted like a Tim Hortons hash brown- super disappointing because there were other options. I couldn't get over the fact that my eggs were way overcooked and the dish had no flavor. My wife's was ok, but she didn't think it was anything beyond ok. The ham was a large slice on the side of the plate like you might get at Easter dinner. A couple other notes- once our food was delivered the service declined. Tons of staff, but multiple people standing around doing nothing. Also, someone who appeared to be the manager repeatedly sat at the bar with a laptop constantly requesting the bartenders time. It was unprofessional, and I'm sorry but it's just restaurant/hospitality 101 to not allow staff to sit with customers- AND require service. There was also a lot of banter between staff about other staff. Took a good 10 minutes to get the check, and it just turned out to be a underwhelming experience. Too many examples of this not being a "scratch kitchen" to list. They have bottled sauces/condiments/mixes all over the tables and bar. I just don't like places that try to advertise as something they aren't, and that's exactly what's happening here. And the "Cajun" emphasis is not even noticeable- even more indicative of a restaurant that's either trying to be something it's not, or saying it. It doesn't feel like they are trying. One plus- it was not overpriced in my opinion, especially with the increase in cost that we all see in this industry. read more
