The atmosphere is the best thing this restaurant has going for them! It's a really tucked away restaurant in a fishing village, so there is a certain expectation for the service and food. The staff all around could be a little more attentive to their customers. It seems like once an order is placed, they forget about you until your food is ready. Also, the price can be an issue. With the restaurant right by the lake, the seafood prices should be a lot lower. Not to mention the food is a 2 star quality with a 4 star price. read more

Decided to give them a second try.. service was a little better but food was worse. Ordered barbecue shrimp and it was 8 boiled shrimp still in the peeling that tasted like shrimp you get from up north. And the barbecue "seasoning" looked like dirty dish water and didn't taste much better. Don't order water unless it's bottled because it's gross. Waitress even agreed that "it's not real water". Food runner and server were arguing over the food AT OUR TABLE. Food runner was also very rude. Very unprofessional. After reading all the reviews about the bad service, we were cautious. We visited the restaurant on a Tuesday evening. It wasn't crowded. The service for us was excellent. The server's name was Lisa. She was very friendly and the food came out pretty fast. Kim was the very pretty manager. She made sure everything was OK. We were driving from New Orleans towards Lafayette, and this was the only restaurant off the 10 for quite sometime, besides McDonalds etc. we really were not expected too much, but figured it HAD to be better than fast food. Boy, we're our expectations wrong! The food was delicious and fresh. The fried oysters were HuGE! We shared a seafood platter, and it was the perfect amount of food for two ( for lunch). Service was awesome! View was incredible! The food was AWFUL!! Stuffed flounder was fried too long and only had a spoonful of stuffing...no crab meat, crawfish or sauce. Basically a very over priced piece of fried fish. Eggplant Napoleon was the worst. The 2 pieces of eggplant were about 1 1/2 inches in diameter, no salt or seasoning on them. The noodles were dry, very little sauce. There was no crabmeat, only 2 extra small, over cooked shrimp and 3 overcooked crawfish tails. NO SEASONING AT ALL. The view of Lake Pontchartrain is 5 star. The food was not when 4 of us visited on a Sunday lunch in January. We were in Laplace area for a work event and I encouraged us to check this place out. It was not crowded in the dining room and no one was sitting on the deck/balcony area because it was a cold day. There is a big oyster bar at this place too. The two of us who tried the charbroiled oysters agreed the cheese on the oysters was a miss. It just did not meld well. I'm not a fan of cheese on oysters - butter and garlic for me - but I always give 'em a try. Our server was friendly about one of us trying a beer before ordering. Beers and cocktails were good but service was a little slow. Comments on food from our table: seafood gumbo was good, etouffee was just okay, crab cake entree was good, shrimp poboy bread was a bit soft but shrimp tasted okay. There are so many good restaurants in south Louisiana I'm not sure this would be my destination. I feel the need to write this review now bc I was so irritated ladt year that I forgot... We went here last year for Mother's Day with my mother in tow. We thought the ambiance would be lovely looking out on the water. Whole experience was awful. We sat for nearly 30 min before anyone even came to our table to take drink orders- we chalked it up to the fact that it was packed and it was a holiday. Finally, at the 45 min mark, we had given our drink orders- 3 bar drinks and an iced tea... Seriously, another 30 min passed and we got the iced tea and nothing else!! We put in food orders and nearly two hours into the experience, we had one iced tea on the table! Bitchy dingbat waitress didnt even have enough common sense to bring out waters for those of us waiting for drinks from the bar! Final straw came when pur appetizers were delivered to the table next to us who had been seated only 20 min before our 2 hour mark.. It was the food we ordered and we heard them say, " oh, we didnt otder this but it looks good so we'll take it." They dug in and we walked out! Didn't pay for our lousy one iced tea! On the way out, we completely bitched to the manager/hostess who couldn't give one ounce of shit... This place needs a serious overhaul on management and service!!!!! read more

I really liked their raw oysters. I would never think this place would have raw oysters as good as they do. I believe its because of the waters from which they retrieve it. It just tasted fresh and sits very well on the palate. The alligator sausage was salty. The crawfish etouffee is not recommended. To me, it lacked seasoning and tasted sloppily put together. surprised this place got only 3.5 stars. we went to the cajun pride swamp tour and this place was super close to go for dinner. there's a parking lot so plenty of parking. we were seated right away. we weren't really sure what to get for our group of 10 so the server recommended a sampler appetizer, bbq shrimp. she was right on! the apps were delish and was pretty much every plate of all the apps on the menu: fried crawfish, bacon wrapped shrimp, poppers, onion rings. so good! i ordered the oysters but tried the bbq shrimp and i should have ordered that! it is a bit like a soup and the shrimp are peel and eat so be prepared. soo goood x 2. this place was an experience. read more

The view of the lake is great, both inside and outside. They tend to like to fry their seafood, but will char-broil, bake or grill upon request. Assume all will be fried unless specified on menu or by server. The fired oysters Fernier was very good and light. I would have preferred the bacon-wrapped shrimp grilled (very surprised when it was delivered fried), but still delicious. They had problems with their char-broiler (salamander?) so they originally stated they could only do the flounder fried, but we talked them into grilling and finishing in the oven. Best flounder I've had in years! Moist, buttery without being oily, and the delicate taste of the flounder really came through. Our server was very attentive but also let us hang around and enjoy the day. The downside of sitting outside is inconsiderate patrons that hang on the railing to smoke. While Frenier's doesn't encourage smoking (ashtray's etc), you may get patrons who walk outside and smoke upwind. We ask our hostess to not place smokers next to us and had few issues. I moved away from south Louisiana years ago and before leaving we rarely made the extra drive to eat at the lake. It was if you will, subpar and inconsistent. In the past 6 months I have visited home for a week at a time at least 6 times for several different reasons. At this point, I can't wait to go to Frenier Landing for dinner. I bring my friends and family as well. It seems that at least as far as I can tell (I managed the kitchens and front of the house of family restaurants in Indiana for 10 years), the food is Fresh and its consistently Good. Now when I order a dish I KNOW what I'm getting and look forward to it every time. Service is friendly and attentive as well. They've had music a few times that I visited and the crowd is lively and fun. I highly recommend Frenier Landing to everyone visiting the river parishes. If you want a good cajun dish with fresh seafood and outstanding oysters.... It's the place to be! read more

If you love wildlife...this is the place for you....Welllllll....OK if you like mosquitoes that is. Lol we were afraid for our life! There were hundreds of mosquitoes just on our car on the way out. A bunch of those ended up in the car. If you can look past the mosquitoes on the way in you can appreciate that it is an inviting rustic looking place. Inside was even better. The fans are unique and don't provide too much air flow. It is a place you can take your family but also a fairly casual date. The hostess was friendly and seated us right away. We had made reservations but didn't really need them. We arrived about 6:15 p.m. on Friday night. There was four in our party. Our waiter was attentive and informative. The food ordered was fried catfish by two, the alligator, chicken and sausage gumbo, fish tacos and a dressed baked potato. The catfish was not cleaned good and that comes through the flavor. The french fries were good. The fish tacos we're very good. And the baked potato was average. We all agreed that the gumbo was the best item. read more

Our party of 3 had the Stuffed Flounder, Catfish Platter and Caesar Salad. The Flounders were ample in size and delicious. The catfish was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The Caesar salad was massive. This was the 4th or 5th time there, and the food has been consistent. The setting, with the view of Lake Pontchartrain made the some spent there very memorable. The atmosphere is what really draws you in: the restaurant is situated in a raised building right on the lake, so the view is great. There is a homely feel but not home-cooked food. It's a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the drive. You get a lot of food at a very reasonable price. If you're not one to eat a lot in one sitting, you may want to just get an appetizer as a meal (I got the fried crawfish tails with a side of broccoli and still had to take some home). I ordered the seafood platter and was very disappointed at the soggy breading on the fish. Fries were greasy and the oysters had to much breading on them and they were soggy also. Not happy! We went here for lunch. I ordered a $14 omelette that I thought was supposed to have crab meat in it. I think I saw two slivers of crab meat, 3 frozen small shrimp and a couple of crawfish tails. The omelette was overcooked and barely had any cheese in it. Cheese is cheap, right? How do you overcook eggs? Shame on you for charging that much for an omelette! And if you have the nerve to, put some damn local seafood in it. Aren't you "on the Lake"? My boyfriend got a shrimp po-boy with again tiny frozen shrimp. Save your time and money! The only thing good about this restaurant is the view of the lake. The food was below mediocre. We started with the crawfish and zuchinni soup. It had no visible pieces of either in it. It looked liked baby food, all blended together in a food processor. Didn't taste very good at all. Don't be confused when ordering the crab gratin. I believe in giving a place three tries before making a decision. Beautiful restaurant with nice view, ok pricey food but lousy service. Waitress showed up quickly after seating, order was placed and when plate was missing the chicken she offered to bring it at no charge, so far so good. I got the chicken and then she disappears, finished eating and no show, I went to host desk to ask for bill and was told that it will come to me right away, a few minutes later I get it but have to wait for waitress again, luckily for me I had enough cash to leave without having to be forced to wait for credit card slip. This time I did not get a rude service but a slow one after mistake on order I feel that they could had tried a little harder. Previous times were rude and immature, most staff are teens without a older more trained manager in charge. Great expectations dashed. Beautiful space with nice menu, but obviously mismanaged. Upon arrival we were brought to our table and waited 10 minutes before our server came. It appeared that there was a private event, or something else, going on in the building and the staff was taking care of that to the dismay of ourselves, and other customers. After ordering drinks, apps, and entrees, we waited another 20 minutes for the apps. Only after we had been there a full 50 minutes did I ask to speak to a manager about our entrees which had yet to arrive. The manager proceeded to make excuses and try to blame the wait staff for the problems. When we said we wanted to go and we would pay for drinks and apps, she made no attempt to offer a discount or anything else that would make us want to try again, which we won't. I have noted now that many others have had similar experiences here. Too bad. The big complaint is all about the service which is bad management. Wake up, owner. You are not paying attention to the obvious problem. Please let me know when you are ready to sell this gem, as obviously, any else could run it better! read more
