Gonna be honest with you, this place wasn't what I thought it was going to be. It is basically a hole in the wall type of place. The service is great, no complaints there. It's not that the food was awful, but I've had better. We ordered shrimp and fish baskets (no picture of the fish unfortunately). I would probably pass on this place the next time in Toronto.

I ordered off Uber Eats, and they had a BOGO deal for the haddock and fries. When it arrived, it was still very hot, and it was well packaged with the fried fish on top of parchment paper, and underneath were the fries. The tartar sauce and coleslaw were separately packaged. The fish was crispy and flakey, and not too oily. The fries were hand-cut and were good. I enjoyed the tartar sauce and coleslaw. Overall, we had a good delivery experience.

This is a small shop in the heart of Kensington Market offering takeout, dine in as well as outdoor seating. Also the first Toronto restaurant that got the Ocean Wise seal of approval for offering sustainable seafood. Ordered the haddock and chips which came in a newspaper container and it was just right. Not too much batter but still crispy courtesy of crushed Miss Vickie's chips and no oily residue. It comes with a tartar sauce and coleslaw. The chips were perfectly fried and to our liking. We also tried their Po Boy sandwich but not a fan since I had the best in New Orleans. The wait time for order is reasonable and friendly staff. Worth trying if you're in the Kensington Market area.

We ordered cod and upgraded our chips to poutine. I ordered the classic poutine and myhusband ordered the spicy one. We shared them and really enjoyed them both. Place looks underwhelming from outside and inside even but sometimes those are the best places. Food came out quickly and the fish are nicely sized! Once you're done, be sure to walk the area to check out the dozens of varieties of restaurants nearby.

Halibut fish and chips

Such high rating, so I had high hopes. This was a delivery order and it came super fast - within half hour. The quality of the fish and chips was disappointing to me. The fish was dry and a bit hard. And same with the chips. The gravy that I got for $4 extra was half filled in the container. And it was salty. In the end, I had to scraped it off from the fish. The halibut fish and chips was $25. Gravy $4. $29. Plus tax and services of around $9 and a $5 tip to the delivery guy. The grand total came out to $43. That, for a lousy meal of fish and chips.

This is my go to spot for fish and chips. The fish portions are a good size and moist when cooked. The batter is airy and crispy. The fries are just as good with a nice hickory potatoe tasty. The sauces that come with the fish and chips goes really well with the meal. You will be a regular customer once you try this place out.

Delicious haddock at Fresco's - can't wait to get back to try even more menu items. The best that I've had in a long time.

So grateful I stumbled upon this outstanding eatery when wandering Kensington Market. I had already had a pretty feeling lunch in Chinatown, but great Seafood is great Seafood. So I ordered just one piece of fried haddock, and it was spectacular. Friendly staff, very welcoming despite that I wasn't getting a full entree. The fish was super tasty, nice portion and very fresh. This will be a go-to for every visit to Toronto, whether my current vacation or in the future. In perspective, just based on my travels, this is right up there or better than Codmother in San Francisco and even from London eateries. Absolutely outstanding!

Large Quebec Style Poutine (literally the best)
Grace C.

I came here on a weekday night solely to try poutine. I was definitely not disappointed. Disclaimer: the only other poutine I have tried has been from Mcdonald's. It was really easy to go up, order, and sit down to wait for our order to be brought to us. We ordered a large Quebec style poutine. The large was big enough to feed 4 people; to be fair, we had just come from eating at Juicy Dumpling. I literally cannot emphasize how delicious the poutine was. I loved how smooth the gravy was, and how it was not too salty. Also, I hate soggy fries, so I was afraid the gravy would make the fries soggy, but somehow that did not happen. The cheese curds were an excellent addition to the poutine; it was so fun to dig around for the curd to eat with a crispy fry covered in gravy. I definitely recommend coming here for great poutine. There was a kid sitting near us eating fish and chips, and it honestly looked so good too. I suspect everything here is delicious and life changing.

I loved fresco's so much the first time that I went again about a month later. I don't visit downtown Toronto too often but a trip down is worth it if you make a stop at Fresco's. The fish is fresh and I find that the batter is very unique (I love that they use Miss Vickie's chips for it) and the portions are just right. If I'm really hungry, i can finish it. If not, I'll have leftovers! I also love the Beatles theme they have going on around the restaurant as I'm a Beatles fan. The staff was also SUPER friendly.

Gluten free shrimp and chips

Really nice fish and chips shop with lots of options. The thing that makes Fresco stand out amongst other fish and chips shops is that the have gluten free batter as an option which is actually still very pleasant. The fries are top notch delicious. I think they're double fried and are crispy but fluffy all at once. The shrimp were good and all a very consistent in size which was nice. Overall, a good meal. The restaurant itself is cute and has nice decor.

Ok let me get the fish puns out of the way. It was a hot summer day that made me say oh Cod one of us wanted to try out fried fish. Not wanting to be shellfish I went through the bookmarks and found this place as a squid pro quo. On we went and scaled our way to Kensington market. The place is like a puffer fish i.e. larger than expected and the AC was welcome reef on a hot day. After going through the menu we ordered haddock. For the halibut of it (darn had one pun left) we added a side of onion rings. The fried fish came out piping hot. Batter is decent. I enjoyed the sub of sweet potatoes fries as well. Very good spot to try fried fish and I will be back to try other types should an 'Opportunaty' comes along.

The owner was really nice but the food was not, the shrimp Po boy was soggy no flavour and the fries were horrible soggy not crispy, that shrimp Po boy is not Po boy first off it's insanely small, you can't compare this to busters sea dove busters in a different level than this, I had high expectations and freshco let me down, now I know for the future not to go to this place anymore, I can make ten times better Po boy than this

I'd say this is one of the more memorable and notable places for fish & chips! I have been here before only to watch my friend eat and it looked really good. When I got to actually try it, I was satisfied with the overall experience. Service was great and the food was as mentioned, memorable as the fish was made to order and the wait was worth it. Fries weren't bad and coleslaw was subpar.

Got the 2 pieces of cod and fries combo. Fish was fresh and very crispy but nothing spectacular. Fries were okay? Not sure what else to say.

They make the best fish and chips. Halibut and cod are both great. Seems like the only place that serves fresh fish and chips.

This location does gluten free, so definitely worth looking into if you need to/ are avoiding gluten. I wasn't craving something so deep fried so I got the shrimp po-boy. The fish and chips my bf ordered were delicious. Good fry, the fries tasted good, and the vinegar coselaw was good. The po boy wasn't as great. The shrimp were cooked beautifully but the bun was cut completely open, so you get the top bread and bottom bread separated. It was impossible to eat. As soon as I picked up the roll, the structural integrity failed and all my "stuffings" fell onto the plate. It was no fun eating with the fork and knife. Flavours were good though. The creamy coselaw was not my cup of tea. It was very mayo-y, which was a bit difficult for me to enjoy. I think it needed a little something citrus to brighten it up. I also was looking forward to my brussel sprouts, which were unfortunately forgotten and I never ended up getting them. By the end, it wasn't on my bill either so I think they just kept forgetting about them. They were definitely available though because someone at our table ordered them to-go. Overall, service was friendly. If you're in the area and looking for some fish and chips to hit the spot, this might be the place for you.

There are probably only one or two sugar-free options, but the pricing is really reasonable and definitely cheaper than the GTA. The Peanut Butter Cup was good, though I wish the chocolate flavor was a bit richer. I'd give it an 8/10. The Black Cherry was delicious and easily a 10/10. For food, I ordered the large fish and chips for $18. It's a great deal because the two pieces of fish are huge. The small order is $11.95. My picture didn't show it well since the second piece of fish was hiding underneath, but it was just as big. The fries are super thick, perfect for dipping in gravy. I got a side of gravy and loved it. It had that classic poutine flavor without being too salty. The only thing I'd change is I wish the fries were cooked a little longer. Overall, I'd give the fish and chips an 8/10. The diner itself is much bigger than I expected. You order at the counter, get a number, and they call it out when it's ready. What's cool is they also have speakers outside, so if you're waiting by the path or at the picnic tables, you can still hear your number. Bathrooms were clean too, which I always appreciate.
