One of the best poke I have had in a while! Service is somewhat confusing if it's your first time. If you go anytime after 3 pm, they are out of a lot of things and their case looks pretty empty. Some of the signs aren't place and it just seems like they are all the same flavor. However, the staff was really nice and helped answer any question. Salmon bone plate was the star of the show. You give rice with it and lots of salmon bones and pieces of the salmon collar. Lightly fried until perfectly cooked. Their rice is a little inconsistent tho. One day it is perfectly cooked and another day it is undercooked to the point where it ruined the poke experience! I wouldn't hold it against them since the quality and flavor of their poke is AMAZING! Can't want to go back and try their other items. read more

Besides my bucket list item of honoring and paying respect to the thousands of brave and courageous military servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending Pearl Harbor, my other goal while visiting Oahu was to get my grub on. I knew Hawaii was paradise, but I didn't know how much of a foodie paradise it was in Oahu. Poke was one of the food items we wanted to chow down on and our first experience with poke was at a restaurant recommended by my daughter's boss. It's also a Guy Fieri Diners Drive-ins and Dives (DDD) stop. We enjoyed our first experience with poke at Fresh Catch. We were hungry after our ultra fun excursion to Kualoa Ranch, so we looked at the desired restaurant list that my daughter put together and decide upon Fresh Catch. Fresh Catch was recommended as one of the best poke my daughter's boss has ever tried. Since it was also featured on the foodie tv show DDD, we were looking forward to trying poke for the first time since we arrived in Oahu. Fresh Catch is located next to an freeway underpass of Interstate H1 just down the road from the famous Leonard's Bakery. I believe the location we visited was the new location and not the one shown on DDD. I was bummed that Fresh Catch is take out only. There are no seating inside the restaurant. The decor is nautical and there are plenty of trophy fishing pics. The friendly customer service by the ladies behind the counter showed the Aloha Spirit we experienced throughout our trip. My daughter's boss raved about Fresh Catch's poke by making the bold claim that it was the best and freshest poke he's ever eaten. For Guy Fieri to feature their restaurant in his show, I was expecting amazing food. Poke needs to be experienced in Hawaii. It's not mainland poke. You're not going to get poke mixed in with other filler food. In Hawaii, you get your choice of fish and some scoops of rice. If you're looking to get a massive amount of food, then poke restaurants on Hawaii might not be your cup of tea. I ordered the spicy ahi with a scoop of rice. Yes, it was fresh and tasty, but it wasn't the best poke I had eaten on our trip to Oahu. We got to Fresh Catch towards the end of the day, so not sure if that contributed to me not being blown away. I also thought for the price, it wasn't enough food, but I've never eaten poke this way. I also ordered Fresh Catch's pastele fries, which are deep fried potato strips topped with a scoop of pastele stew and shredded cheese. Definitely order this side item!!! It was yummy, hearty, and I enjoyed the pastele fries better than the spicy ahi poke. Fresh Catch was our first Diners Drive-ins and Dives restaurant we visited based on a recommendation from my daughter's boss. Omg!!!! I go in at least 4xs a month to get their salmon poke. My husband and I were stationed in OK for a few years and were stationed back home in 2022. He is getting sent back to OK in a few months. I will miss that poke but found out from the wonderful women behind the counter that I can buy their Black Magic Sauce! I left my name and number in case the sauce came back in stock not thinking I'd hear from them. Today is my birthday and while at lunch Nalani called and said they had a note to call me when it came in. BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!!!! I sped over there after lunch and bought two bottles. I was wearing a lei and said it was the best birthday gift! They gave me the sauce and a piece of cake and even sang Happy Birthday to me! Once you get your poke plate, head upstairs (use the elevator) to Henriques, which has a full bar and lots of indoor tables to relax, enjoy your poke, and a cocktail if you perfer. All three pokes were very, very good, and the salmon poke was mild, fresh, and not fishy at all. Great poke flavors, well balanced between spicy, seasonings, and creamy texture. We tracked down where Fresh Catch was. New property owners razed the building where it was originally. It's just a food truck right now until they finish working on the new place. It's a bit tricky to find - you need to come down Harding Ave and veer right as if to go Waialae Ave. You'll see the truck on the right. Only 3 small parking spaces so don't bring your big truck. Better yet, order online and then jump out and pick up. We got the smoke marlin- holy shiitake mushrooms! It was so moist and soft, and oh so smoky! Broke da mout! We whacked it by the time left Kaimuki. Also got the seared ahi- 6 pieces of super tender and melt in your mouth ahi. Can't wait til they officially open. Came for the poke and was not disappointed. As the name suggests, the fish was fresh and every bite made me squeal with happiness. We got the shoyu ahi and their most popular flavor (I couldn't catch the name because it was kind of hard to hear the guy behind the display, but I think it was a lemon-y flavor, I could be wrong). If you're just a visitor to the island like me and want to try different flavors of poke, I recommend buying in portions of 1/4 pound to really try everything! We weren't super hungry so got 1/4 pound of both flavors as a poke bowl and it was so yummy. My favorite out of the two was the shoyu ahi, but both of them were super flavorful and perfectly seasoned. Honestly, after trying a few other popular spots any poke place hits, the fish is just so fresh anywhere on the island so don't feel the need to find THE poke spot. At Fresh Catch, there's a bunch of poke mixes that you can choose from. They sell the poke by weight, so you can get as little or as much as you want. I got the firecracker, spicy ahi, and ahi limu. The poke was really fresh; the fish basically melted in my mouth. Firecracker was too spicy for me. Spicy ahi was milder than the firecracker; it was like a spicy mayo mixed in ahi. Ahi limu was my favorite! I could really taste the ahi since it wasn't drenched in sauce or seasoning. The total came out to be around $15 and it was quite filling. It really hurts to write this review because I don't ever want to give a place such a poor rating. I'm hoping it's just a one-off. We've been wanting to try this location of Fresh Catch. Everything looked ono. Mary said her favorites were x, y, and z so we ordered the ahi belly, garlic salmon, and ahi belly lechon. Also added kimchee tako. The kimchee tako was ono! The garlic salmon was perfectly cooked. The ahi belly was cooked ok, not over, not under, but almost over cooked and the white sauce was so bland. But the rice. The rice! All of rice was not cooked. Not even undercooked. Just not cooked. See photos. You can see solid bits of rice. The rice for all ordered was inedible. We paid over $70 and couldn't even eat the rice? Additionally, I'm so sorry, but the auntie working cashier was so sick. She shouldn't have been working. She was coughing into her hands, touching the poke spoons, the pen she gave me to sign, the utensils...it was just...unacceptable. Been wanting to try this place for a few years now and finally had a chance to pop in to grab some poke a couple weeks ago. I arrived a few minutes before closing. They barely had any poke left, so I quickly ordered a small spicy ahi. They packed up it, weighed it and I paid and ran out. However, it's still worth a stop if you want some good fresh fish for reasonable prices. I got a couple scoops of fish, seaweed salad, and rice. Wow, my last review for this Fresh Catch was almost 10 years ago! Time for an update! My coworkers and I get lunch at Fresh Catch, usually once a week. It's convenient because it is about a mile from work and it is fast so we can pick up poke during our short lunch break. I parked and walked in like normal one day and ordered two poke bowls, which came out to $33. The guy who rang me up was struggling with the cash register. It seemed like the wifi/data was down or something and the credit card machine wasn't working, but what do I know. He charged me, then asked me to wait because he didn't think it went through. They ended up having to restart the whole cash register (which took like 5 minutes) and after, because it still wasn't working, I had to go to the other register to get rung up again. They apologized for the long wait and inconvenience and assured me that if I was charged twice, I could just call and get the second charge taken off. I get my credit card statement and I was indeed charged twice. I called them and my info was taken down (including my cc info and the charge amount) and I was told "Eddy" would call me. She did, later that day, and I gave her all my info a second time. A week later, I had not received a refund. I called Eddy back and she was admitted that she is really busy, too busy to help me. I give all my info a third time. I'm pretty pissed off at this point. Then she asks if I'm visit the island frequently because I have an out of state number. WTF. I've had the same phone number for the past 15 years and it is definitely an 808 number. Then she asks if it is possible that I came in the day after I was charged. lol. She mentions valentine's day (which is nowhere near the dates I provided her). lol. This phone call is getting weirder and weirder. Fresh Catch has great poke. It's expensive, but worth it. I absolutely love, fresh catch! If I lived in Honolulu, I would be there fairly often. In the one week I was there I did visit twice and it was my final stop before we went to the airport to go home. They have such an amazing selection of different poke. So there is literally something for everyone. If you don't like raw fish, there are many types of cooked entrées as well. However, I really did love the spicy tuna and shoyu poke. The restaurant itself is small and it is basically a take away with a small parking lot. However, it is completely worth going and taking home or take him to a park or the beach or whatever because it is fresh and delicious. read more

I remember when Fresh Catch was located on Waialae in the old Pizza Hut building. Between that location and this location, I liked that more due to ease of access and more parking. It is a challenge to get to this new location and they have limited parking. This new location is cozy and offers take out. You can't really dine in here. They offer fresh fish in the form of poke, sashimi or rice/salad plates. There is a lot of beverage (nonalcoholic) options available. They also have daily specials. I haven't been back to Fresh Catch in ages but I recently came back because Yelp GF mentioned their salmon plate. I tried to call in a phone order but I couldn't get anyone on the phone so I just headed down. Fortunately, they still had salmon belly for their Saturday daily special. It didn't take the kitchen long to get my order out. The plate comes with 3 pieces of salmon belly over a bed of cabbage and two scoops of white rice. But the spicy sauce was mediocre, it didn't have much of a spice to it. There's only a few parking spots next to the truck so we parked in a neighborhood around the block. They are now on the corner of Harding and kapahulu making it a little tricky to access and find parking. I am probably going to repeat what all of the other reviews already stated, but oh well, figured it wouldn't hurt the business to get another 5 star review from a fellow visitor. This is a takeout only place: you come in, get in line, place your order, if your order is a poke, you get it right away and if it is a platter from their extensive menu, you wait outside for them to prepare your food. All in all, it didn't take too much time for them to prepare our platters from the time we placed them. There's a small parking lot for a handful of cars, but since the place is takeout only, the cars move in and out of the lot fairly quickly. We got the spicy ahi katsu and the furikake seared tuna as our platters of choice. The spicy ahi katsu alone could have fed 2 people. The ahi katsu was breaded perfectly, having that nice crunch on the outside and well-cooked meaty ahi in the inside at each bite. It was very generously doused with what tasted like spicy mayo and sprinkled with lots of furikake and scallions. I was already quite a fan of Fresh Catch after tasting this meal, but things took an even more pleasant turn once I tasted the furikake seared ahi. The furikake seared ahi was the winner for me. Although the serving is a bit smaller than the katsu (this dish feels like it is for 1 person as opposed to 2), the fresh ahi was absolutely delicious, working well with the what tasted like horseradish mayo that was served on the side. If you are in between furikake seared or normal seared, let this review be the tie breaker to go for the furikake seared ahi. It added such an umami flavor to the fresh ahi. Last note, both dishes come with 2 generous scoops of rice for those wondering. Lots of people came here to try their poke, which looked amazing as well. They have a generous selection of poke ranging from different flavors of ahi, salmon, and tako (octopus). This just means that I will need to come back to get the poke next time! read more

Finally had a chance to stop by the new Fresh Catch location. There old location was on Waialae across the street from City Mill The new location is harder to get to but when you have good grinds people will do anything to eat there . The new location is on Kapahuluu and corner of Hardin Ave . So basically you cannot enter from Kapahuluu you need to come down on Hardin Ave in order to go right into their parking lot. Limited parking so I would probably recommend either phone order or have someone jump out just in case there's no parking. Inside you'll see there showcase ice box with all kinds of Poke and also they have all kinds of plate lunches available. Once you order you need to than go outside and pick up your order at the take out window . Shout out to my sister recommending their Furikaki Salmon. I'm really not a Salmon lover although this salmon is very moist and very flavorful. It comes with 2 scoop rice but no salad just the salmon.
