TL;DR Fantastic poke. Manoa represent!!! ----- Off the Hook Poke lives up to the hype. There's a constant line out the door filled with locals and tourists alike. And for good reason. Off the Hook delivers consistent, high-quality poke bowls (trays?) in the heart of beautiful Manoa Valley. I've been coming to Off the Hook since it opened way back in 2018. While the prices have steadily increased, the delicious poke has remained the same. For poke bowls, you have several options to consider: 1) Mini or regular size 2) Rice option (white, brown, sushi, or green salad) 3) One or two choices of poke At this point I've tried almost every one of their poke offerings, and they are all fantastic. You cannot go wrong with whatever you choose. However, I'd say 95% of the time I stick with the Cold Ginger Ahi and the Spicy Ahi. These are guaranteed hits. I also really like the Wasabi Furikake Ahi. Lastly, makes sure you load up on their free toppings! Masago, tempura flakes, and scallions. Yummmy! read more

Off the Hook advertises auction-fresh ahi, which distinguishes it from other poke joints that use previously frozen fish. Since I was a first-timer, I opted for a sampler: 1/4 # of each of the following: Shoyu Poke, Kilauea Fire, and the signature Cold Ginger Ahi, which my friends have been raving about. All three were good and seasoned perfectly: just the right amount of sauce. My favorite, hands-down, was the Cold Ginger ahi, which pays homage to the Cantonese ginger-scallion sauce served over chicken, and not oily: wonderfully fresh grated ginger in this! Shoyu was also on point: nice sweet umami sauce. Was actually expecting much more spice in the Kilauea Fire, which had a mild chili flavor. Miso gave it depth and richness, making the sauce gochujang-like in flavor. Arguably, the only downside would be the price point: 1LB= $33.99 1/2LB= $16.99 1/4LB= $8.49: expensive, but excellent-quality product, and definitely fresh, with melt-in-the-mouth fish. read more

I picked up lunch here for a group two days in a row and plan to make today the third. The food is so fresh and tasty. The staff is friendly but make sure you're ready to order when you get to the front of the line. As fast as I could state my order (1: size, 2: base, 3: poke), I tapped to pay, and they were handing me my food with a friendly "mahalo" that also translates to, "there are hungry diners behind you in line." Pro tip, if you choose the 2-poke option, you can try more flavors! I was introduced to this spot by a colleague who lived here for two years. The menu is delightfully brief. So many good poke places on the island but the ginger poke here is one of a kind. The flavors are strong and salty so make sure you have some sort of vessel to eat the poke with, rice, chips etc. Usually our go to is to grab 1/2 lb of spicy ahi and ginger, it's around $40 but well worth it to smash that craving. The service is always fast and friendly. Definitely swing by for a delicious poke bowl with all the fixings! Came here after doing the Manoa Falls hike on a Wednesday during lunch. There were 5 people ahead of me but the line went super fast. Plenty of parking across the street and the tables outside rotate quick since people are just popping in and out, so there's not really an ambience. My wife and I ordered the regular bowl with white rice, spicy ahi, and Kilauea fire. The spicy ahi was the star of the show. We had extra rice leftover so I ordered an extra quarter pound of regular shoyu ahi and it blew everything out of the water. Don't sleep on this spot. read more

This place is different in the sense that it's not a walk-in, sit-down type of establishment and that's the reason why you'll find a line of people waiting to order. There are a couple small tables and chairs that you can snag if you're lucky. My friend and I went here on a Wednesday afternoon and there was maybe 5 parties ahead of us in line already. You kind of have to order fast but they prepare the poke quickly and the workers are nice and friendly. I got a half-pound of poke with no rice. I got the spicy tuna and they cut the tuna thick and chunky - not bad - just different. The flavor is good and the fish is indeed fresh! We parked across the street and walked over. It's not in the hustle of bustle of Waikiki so the environment isn't loud or busy. My coworker recommended this place and I'm glad I checked it out! read more

Lives up to the hype for sure, though very pricey for the portion. I got a mini bowl with Hawaiian style poke and salad for $19 total. However, the flavors were balanced, and the freshness was evident from the non-slimy texture and meatiness of the ahi. The salad was a refreshing complement to the poke. The optional toppings (I said yes to all) added more crunch and flavor without overwhelming the star of the dish, aka the lovely tuna. The shop front looks tiny. You order at the door/window where you can see the menu and the display case of the very few poke options offered. Staff worked quickly, as my order was basically ready after paying. Only outdoor seating directly in front of the shop was provided, but luckily we beat the lunch rush and got two tables for our group. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I'd definitely come back for the poke. Location was in a quiet part of Honolulu that seemed to have some small-town vibes. We parked in the free lot across the street where the McD's was. read more

Off-the-Hook BOOKEND'd our most recent 2026 trip to Oahu. It was the first stop after getting our rental car. And the final stop, before dropping it off again. The adorable market, in a gorgeous canyon neighborhood is always on our minds. So fresh. So good. A LITERAL MUST on each and every trip to Oahu. Multiple times, if possible. I enjoyed the spicy ones and the Hawaiian style. Ask for all the toppings. The brown rice is nutty and perfectly cooked. Went here twice while on vacation, and it was so good after a nearby hike. After all these years, Off the Hook is easily still my (and the kid's) favorite spot for fresh poke on O'ahu. Quality hasn't changed. All flavors of ahi poke are excellent and delicious. My go-to is usually spicy ahi but today I got the ginger and Japan deluxe. We arrived at 11:20-ish on a Friday and there was a short line which moved quickly. The three staff behind the counter were very efficient and have their system down. Some trays were already half gone. By the time we got our food, the line had extended to the bus stop! Therefore, best to come early. There are two small tables by the front, on either side of the line, which can be awkward. Spicy ahi- 5/5 classic creamy spicy. My fav Spicy ginger ahi- 5/5 also delicious. They also have a non spicy version too. Best poke I had in Hawaii. Only place we went to twice in entire island. Tuna was so fresh you'll realize THIS is how it should taste and feel, texture wise. Why is mainland poke never this good!! Not even close. Highly recommend stopping by here for poke over all else. Chose white rice as base but that was kinda dry. Noticed they scooped the white rice ahead of time and left it in the takeaway containers--to be proactive? But just makes the rice dry. I mean, does it really take that long to scoop rice that you have to do it ahead of time? That was meh, but fish oh my god so good. SOOOO GOOD You can also order poke by a quarter, half, or whole pound. Parking sucks. Tiny lot. No seats inside (actually you can't even go inside), but a few tables outside. After hiking Manoa Falls Trail, we were hungry and saw a long line for poke and stopped here. I ordered both spicy tuna and regular ahi tuna, and unfortunately the tuna was slimy, chewy, and didn't taste very fresh - not sure if this was from thawed frozen fish or made the day before. I also tried the garlic ahi separately because we were told it was popular, but all of them tasted overly salty. The garlic sauce tastes like a garlic green onion sauce that Chinese people make to dip plain chicken. The octopus was probably the best part of the bowl - not amazing, but decent compared to the rest. The sushi rice was another downside - very heavy on the vinegar and completely overpowered the poke. Overall, the bowl just didn't come together well, and the quality didn't meet expectations for poke. Portions were fine, but freshness and balance were lacking especially given the price. read more

Some people say it takes away from the fish but idk man I'm kind of a fan of extra textures. The big downside for me personally was the sushi rice. I opted for the ginger scallion and shoyu, and was very pleased with both. Off the Hook was recommended to us by some local friends, but unfortunately this was one of our least favorite poke places that we tried during our visit to O'ahu. We tried 4 different types of poke here, and in general they were all extremely salty. We tried the shoyu ahi, spicy ahi, miso ginger tako, and cold ginger ahi. The shoyu ahi was probably the saltiest, and unfortunately the soy sauce seeped into the rice and it very salty. The cold ginger ahi was very strongly seasoned with a sauce that seemed to be green onion and ginger and unfortunately was not pleasant. It's possible that we came on a bad day, as it seems very popular, and the line outside was pretty long. But, based on my experience, I would recommend visiting somewhere else. There is a limited amount of seating and tables outside. The location is convenient for visitors to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, as it's a walkable distance from the campus. read more

It's a quick chill spot like most poke places. There's no bathroom and you can park free across the street at a large parking lot. FOOD Wasabi furikake - creamy, spicy burn that is wasabi, and deep flavorful umami Spicy ahi - creamy and has a deep flavor with umami we liked better than furikake Can't wait to come again. Off the Hook takes the cake for best poke in O'ahu. The fish is fresh, the bowl is fully of quality ingredients, and prices are fair. The bowls come with your choice of protein, sushi rice, green onion and furikake. We opted for the spicy ahi which was delicious. Service is quick as customers walk up to a window to place their order. While one worker prepares your order, the other worker rings you up. We walked away with our food within three minutes of arriving. There is limited seating outside but fortunately we grabbed a table because we were one of the few customers. While I'm glad we didn't have to wait in an insane line like other spots, I hope Off the Hook gets some more recognition from the community and tourists as the best poke. read more

Another one of our stops for our Honolulu speedrun was Off the Hook Poke Market. This is a very small place that doesn't really cater to a sit-down-and-eat crowd. They only had a couple of tables and they were both taken by other parties but no matter, we were able to find some seating across the street to enjoy our food. We decided that since the goal was to try as many things as possible, we'd go with a Sampler. It came with 8 different kinds of poke. Just as the sampler comes with a mix of poke, our ratings for what we tried were also a mixed bag. The rankings in descending order were as follows: 1.) Shoyu ahi 2.) Kilauea fire 3.) Cold ginger 4.) Miso ginger tako 5.) Japan deluxe 6.) Hawaiian style 7.) Spicy ahi 8.) Wasabi #1 was the clear favorite and head and shoulders above everything else. From there, 2 & 3 were in the next tier and were considerably less enjoyable, with there being an even bigger drop off to the next tier of 4-8. The big issue we seemed to run into is that the fish was very overdressed and it made the poke feel very heavy, and only the flavors of the marinades came through. They offered free toppings: tobiko, green onion, bubu arare. I tried the sushi rice (+$1) and it was firm and clumpy. You can also buy the poke per pound. 4 stars for super fresh poke! I think the ginger and spicy were my favorite. I liked the crunchy toppings, massage, and seaweed you can add as toppers for free - love the added texture. It's also unique because their sushi rice is green and seasoned in a unique way. Rice was a little salty though. Also I felt that and especially the Hawaiian and shoyu were too salty. I think for the price my fave is still Alili but this was a solid spot. read more
