Fresh Catch is a must visit! The wife and I ordered the Ahi Katsu and we were blown away by how good it was. I've had donkatsu many times, but I haven't been to a place that serves Ahi katsu. The ahi is cooked all the way but it was still juicy and tender and the breading was lightly fried and crispy. We loved the sauce that was served with it. We will definitely be back for this since this was one of our favorite dishes of our trip to Oahu. read more

After seeing Fresh Catch on DDD and YouTube's HawaiianTraveler, we thought we had a slam dunk. The spicy ahi katsu ($15.99) was well done, which is kind of a waste of good ahi, IMO. I should have looked through the photos on Yelp first. If someone served it to me and told me it was chicken, I would have believed it. We wished there was more sauce and furukake because the fish was so bland. 2/5 Poke must be their strong suit here. We got 1/4 lb of the ahi limu and it was high quality. It's called Fresh Catch for a reason! They have an immense display of poke and the quality of fish is always fresh and flavorful. Although they offer other items like plate lunches, sandwiches, etc. you can't go wrong with their poke bowl! I highly recommend coming here around lunch time to pick and choose from their wide selection of poke! I came a little before closing so most of the poke was sold out. Normally I get my favorite, Spicy Salmon, but since they were out I was indecisive. The great part is that you have the option of going half and half for your fish with the choice of one or two scoops of rice. I opted for the one scoop of rice with their Spicy Shoyu Ahi and Tako. Maybe it was a good thing they were out of my favorite cause both options were ono. The Tako was thick, chewy, and fresh--although I wish it had more flavor or sauce. The Spicy Shoyu Ahi came in good-sized chunks--fresh, buttery, a little kick to it, and a sweet and savory sauce. This was my first time coming back since they moved down the street. The new location is bright, clean, and smaller. The only downside is the parking situation as spaces are limited and it's a hassle getting in and out. If you're coming from the south or west, you will need to go up to Kapiolani and turn right on 1st (I didn't even know where that was!) to get onto Harding and into the parking lot. It's a busy parking lot! Most people seem to order by phone or online and pick up, but w didn't know any better so we just parked and went in. I'm so glad we did! The lady at the register was so nice! And there is tons of fresh poke available, as well as a number of hot things to choose from. We ended up eating our fish and chips in the parking lot - so fresh, crispy on the outside and moist in the inside, but don't expect any fancy tartar sauce (it's packaged). We ended up going back in and ordering two more orders of fish and chips for our family at home, as well as some poke for later. In addition to all this, I think you can preorder party platters. They also sell Chef Reno's sauces. All the sauces! I used to always see this place when they were on Waialae and wondered if it was worth it. Well, it is! Not sure if that's the case, but played it safe with just poke by themselves and ordered garlic fried chicken platter to get rice from there, lol. (just wonder if the rice you get with poke is sushi rice or regular rice. maybe worth it if sushi rice?) Finally some poke that made me like it. Strong flavors, good quality ahi made for great poke! I'd be lying if I wasn't lured to Fresh Catch based on the photos of their Spicy Ahi Katsu plate so of course I had to make a trip here. It's located on Kapahulu a little further beyond Leonard's. Small parking lot but there's a nearby shopping center on the otherside of the freeway underpass that you can park at as well as eat since this is purely a grab and go location with no tables. You order your food inside, and then wait outside at the to-go-window for your food. The Spicy Ahi Katsu is just as good as the pictures look! The added spicy mayo and toppings add a lot of moisture and body to the fried tuna. It's truly an abundance of flavor per bite. Omg!!!! I go in at least 4xs a month to get their salmon poke. My husband and I were stationed in OK for a few years and were stationed back home in 2022. He is getting sent back to OK in a few months. I will miss that poke but found out from the wonderful women behind the counter that I can buy their Black Magic Sauce! I left my name and number in case the sauce came back in stock not thinking I'd hear from them. Today is my birthday and while at lunch Nalani called and said they had a note to call me when it came in. BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!!!! I sped over there after lunch and bought two bottles. I was wearing a lei and said it was the best birthday gift! They gave me the sauce and a piece of cake and even sang Happy Birthday to me! This was my first time in their new location. I haven't been to Fresh Catch in a long time. I'm so glad I did. I was actually craving Filipino Food but I didn't eat anything heavy. So I figured I'll eat fish and I don't have to drive to Seafood City from town. Haha. I was please to see Lechon Ahi Belly!! Hello! Lechon with fish!! So I get my Filipino food fix but instead of pork it's fish! I didn't heaters to order that. It was delicious. A little bit in the salty side but the fresh tomatoes and onions were so good. Personal Rating: 8.5/10 Fresh Catch is a fantastic, no frills, counter service poke spot I recently visited. Quick fyi, it's take out only. This place charges by the weight of your food including rice so you can control how much food you get but beware the more you ask for, the more expensive it will be. The poke was DELICIOUS. This was my friend's favorite poke place in Honolulu, and I ended up coming here three times in the 5 days that I was in Hawaii. I went to Foodland ($10/lb) on the first day and Ono Seafood ($35/lb) on the 4th day, and I think Fresh Catch is the perfect one for me in terms of price point ($20/lb), value, and service. Ono Seafood is possibly sliiightly better but we did accidentally have it served on top of the warm rice, so that diluted my enjoyment of it. For a 50% price hike, I'd rather just eat more of Fresh Catch. I'm not sure what it's like outside of the pandemic, but there is no seating at all, so we ate in the car. On the first day, we arrived close to closing and they were almost totally sold out. After our several trips (and multiple orders), I know that my favorites are the Hawaiian Blend and Spicy Shoyu Ahi. Although I usually much prefer salmon sashimi to tuna sashimi, the ahi tuna was incredibly buttery and flavorful, and I liked it more than the salmon here. The salmon is still very good, but the tuna is just totally elevated. There's a sweetness from the Maui onion that makes this poke soooo much better than any I've had in NYC. I was completely addicted. The firecracker is a little too spicy for me, and I could've done without the tako. The classic shoyu ahi is also excellent. I mean, I'm glad we came here but I'm giving this place all of the credit possible because of the employees, they are so kind, helpful and even gave samples of poke to help us decide what to get. An underrated gem! Fresh Catch is such a casual swing-by place with stellar poke options, and plate lunch stuffs. HOT TIP: Make sure to come here early if you want poke though, as they do run out towards the end of the day. We ordered the Furikake Salmon and the Beef Stew. I'd say our food was ready in about 10-15 min at the window. It was still hot by the time we drove home and started eating! The Furikake Salmon came with two scoops of rice, also seasoned generously with furikake. The salmon was so tender, and so flavorful! I wish the portions were as big as Pioneer, tho. It was one slab of fish as opposed to Pioneer's 3 pieces, for similar price. However, I think the fish was cooked more tenderly than at Pioneer, so both are still good in my boat. This off the beaten track poke spot has a small counter and you order your food to go. The area isn't the nicest (near an underpass) with very few people around. We ubered here. It seems more local and not touristy. I saw this place on DDD. They have lots of poke choices, a few were already running low at 11:30am. For hot food you can order inside then wait outside at the window. I ordered 3 kinds of poke with rice. Salmon, smoked tako, and ahi Hawaiian. The smoked tako was tasty but a little chewy for me. The salmon and ahi Hawaiian were both deliciously saucy. My husband got the smoked meat - a bit on the salty side and very saucy, a little fatty but did have good flavor overall. Portions are large. One of my favorite poke place for shoyu ahi. Today I ordered ahi shoyu poke and spicy ahi shoyu with rice. The ahi shoyu was good as usual as well as the spicy ahi shoyu, but the rice was pretty disappointing. it was dry. If you can choose and must get your poke from Fresh Catch, go to the one in Kaneohe because that one is better. Finally visited the new Kapahulu location. It's sort of hidden. King St. Exit, Left on Waialae, Right on 1st Ave then Right on Kapahulu and it's on the right side corner. One of the best poke I have had in a while! Service is somewhat confusing if it's your first time. If you go anytime after 3 pm, they are out of a lot of things and their case looks pretty empty. Some of the signs aren't place and it just seems like they are all the same flavor. However, the staff was really nice and helped answer any question. Salmon bone plate was the star of the show. You give rice with it and lots of salmon bones and pieces of the salmon collar. Lightly fried until perfectly cooked. Their rice is a little inconsistent tho. One day it is perfectly cooked and another day it is undercooked to the point where it ruined the poke experience! Besides my bucket list item of honoring and paying respect to the thousands of brave and courageous military servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending Pearl Harbor, my other goal while visiting Oahu was to get my grub on. We were hungry after our ultra fun excursion to Kualoa Ranch, so we looked at the desired restaurant list that my daughter put together and decide upon Fresh Catch. Fresh Catch was recommended as one of the best poke my daughter's boss has ever tried. Since it was also featured on the foodie tv show DDD, we were looking forward to trying poke for the first time since we arrived in Oahu. Fresh Catch is located next to an freeway underpass of Interstate H1 just down the road from the famous Leonard's Bakery. I believe the location we visited was the new location and not the one shown on DDD. I was bummed that Fresh Catch is take out only. There are no seating inside the restaurant. The decor is nautical and there are plenty of trophy fishing pics. The friendly customer service by the ladies behind the counter showed the Aloha Spirit we experienced throughout our trip. My daughter's boss raved about Fresh Catch's poke by making the bold claim that it was the best and freshest poke he's ever eaten. For Guy Fieri to feature their restaurant in his show, I was expecting amazing food. Poke needs to be experienced in Hawaii. It's not mainland poke. You're not going to get poke mixed in with other filler food. In Hawaii, you get your choice of fish and some scoops of rice. If you're looking to get a massive amount of food, then poke restaurants on Hawaii might not be your cup of tea. I ordered the spicy ahi with a scoop of rice. Yes, it was fresh and tasty, but it wasn't the best poke I had eaten on our trip to Oahu. We got to Fresh Catch towards the end of the day, so not sure if that contributed to me not being blown away.
