Came here as recommended by my hubby. I ordered the ahi katsu with aioli. Portion sizes are large so you can share a plate. Fresh Catch was HIGHLY recommended by my friend who spent one undergraduate semester studying at the local university. Came here at 5:15 pm on a Tuesday for the first time. They have a tiny private lot, but we lucked out that there was hardly anyone there at the time I arrived. They served us right away, let us sample the different poke flavors. Coming towards the end of the day we were a bit limited on options, but I got the flavor that I always enjoy getting anyways - the Spicy Ahi (my favorite) and it was delicious - it did not miss. Boyfriend ordered the Spanish Dragon Ahi and the Shoyu Ahi. He really enjoyed the dragon flavor, the Shoyu was a bit too sweet for his liking. But it's really nice they let you sample a piece before committing! Their ahi poke comes about $20-25 per lbs which is great compared to some poke spots. The Spicy Ahi Katsu was pretty good!! Such a great idea. They bed it on top of cabbage which I enjoyed. It was a bit dry though, so I'd recommend to maybe ask for some extra sauce on the side! First time eating here but definitely not the last! The seared furikake ahi was the best my husband and I ever tasted- and seared ahi is one of his favorites. My FAVORITE poke place during my short stay in Hawaii. The Hawaiian flavor was out when we went but I ordered the Ahi Wasabi and the Firecracker. I was not disappointed. Fresh Catch is our first poke meal in Oahu. It's a simple, straightforward, no frills kind of humble restaurant with cafeteria concept, located on Waialae Avenue in Kaimuki. Upon walking in, we were greeted with this wonderland of interesting poke choices that you can browse and point your fingers to whatever you fancy. The lines for ordering can be a bit confusing, they have two lines: one to poke and the other is for plate lunches. We ordered and shared: + Poke: Sold by the pound and was served with a scoop of rice. I opted for the tuna with Hawaiian blend as well as spicy salmon. I had such a high expectations for this, but sadly, this was such a let down for me, The Poke was quite fishy and texture was a bit slimy (my fault for not sampling beforehand, as the line was quite hectic and I didn't want to hold the line). If I had to choose between the two flavors, I like the spicy salmon more than the Hawaiian blend, as the later tasted just too weird for my palate. + Ahi tuna katsu: Now, this dish was slightly better. The tuna was mild tasting and generously doused with this kewpie and spicy aioli sauces. It was not bad, just wished the katsu was crispier! The portion given was also huge and definitely this dish alone feed the two of us well! + Garlic fried chicken: This was da bomb!! Sooo good and crispy and they seasoned the chicken very well. Haven't been to this place in ages since before Covid when they were on Waialae. Now on the corner of Harding and Kapiolani, the new place is much more simple and pared down. The menu has lots of local favorites including a variety of fish options which I was happy to see. They also have daily specials. I was sad they no longer had my favorite Lomi o'io, especially since not many places have it. When we went at 1;30 in the after much of the poke had been wiped out. My friend got shoyu poke on salad. Love that many places have this no carb option ! It was fresh and good! I got the baked furikake salmon which was soft and pretty good. However I wasted the 2 big scoops of rice it came with. Would have been nice if one scoop was a salad instead. Another friend got garlic chicken and another the beef stew which they said were not bad. My favorite poke shop in all of Oahu. The food here is delicious and they have super friendly service. I usually get the poke and it never disappoints. The poke is always fresh and very tasty. They charge by the weight so let them know if you want one or two scoops of rice and they will appropriately subtract that from your poke. The shoyu ahi and California Poke are my favorite. The furikake salmon is on point as well. Very tender and so flavorful with the japanese mayo and furikake on top. I often say that some of the best tasting foods are found in small hole in the wall restaurants. That definitely rings true in LA, and it appears to ring true in Honolulu as well. Although most people who visit Hawaii will lean towards the big name popular tourist restaurants, I decided to try a restaurant a bit further out that was known for its poke. My girlfriend was also interested in trying poke for the first time, so we decided to give this hole in the wall a shot. There are numerous flavors of poke that are immediately on display at the counter. Seating is fairly limited, but we went fairly early in the morning so we had no trouble finding seats. We decided to share a poke bowl and pestele fries. We got the spicy shoyu ahi poke and the fireball ahi poke. The fish, as expected of Hawaii, was extremely fresh and tasty. Both the shoyu and fireball were incredibly flavorful and sweet, though the fireball was just a bit too spicy for me. There was definitely a tongue numbing feeling after eating so many of the fireball poke, which seemed to be a version of spicy mayo. The pestele fries were ok - tasted like generic poutine/chili cheese fries with some meat and olives and beans. They helped negate the overpowering spiciness of the fireball poke. The clear winner of this restaurant is the poke. A must try for anyone in the area who wants good, authentic Hawaiian seafood. read more
