Eyelash or hair on desi salad
    Breez A.

We ordered 2 curries, mango lassi, Nan, and a desi salad. It was our first time ordering and the curries + Nan looked great! Unfortunately the desi salad had no seasonings and was just cut up vegetables with lemon slices. I had to add my own salt to it. While mixing up the vegetables I noticed that there was a tiny hair or eyelash on the cucumber. It really ruined our appetite :( didn't want to eat the curry after seeing that.

Tried this place out for the first time on a Friday night. We're not experts on Indian cuisine but the service and food was great! Prices were reasonable as well. The restaurant was clean with some interesting artwork. Only 2 other parties there, so we were seated immediately. Seemed like a good number of people came by for takeout. Chana masala rice bowl $12.99 Paneer Tikka masala rice bowl $13.99 Garlic naan $4.49

This is probably my fourth time here and every time has been spectacular. The food is so amazing, the butter chicken with the saag naan is the way to go. Vishwas is a great host and very hospitable. He's very nice to talk to and makes you feel at home. Please don't skip this spot, it's too good to miss out on.

Yummmmmy. Local as can be. Casey is the nicest waiter ever and so friendly. We got the monsoon for two dinner and it was a perfect size. I'm veggie and my bf eats meat so it was nice that he could get lamb and I got Chana masala and it came with naan, rice, veggies, dal and more. It may be my new fav Indian in VC. Def for Camarillo!!!

Ordered take out from this restaurant finally after years of saying "I've got to try this spot". My review is strictly for my takeout experience as I wasn't able to speak to the service or atmosphere of the restaurant. Initially I was impressed with the many food options available through their website. The menu is extensive and had a little bit of everything that I like. It was a great first impression seeing that their were options. The pricing I thought was average, a little higher for me but the portions were good and so was the flavor, that this helped cancel out the cost factor a little bit for me and would not detour me from coming back. Also for take out I can appreciate when the packages are wrapped safely and neatly. Plus they didn't forget any items so an easy A+ for a delivery / takeout experience. The food here was good but maybe I had too high of expectations for this spot after all these years of reading reviews and wanting to go? I think for Camarillo it's an easy 5 stars as were limited for good Indian food in this city and for convenience & being tasty, I get why the reviews are so awesome. However, given that there are a good amount of indian restaurants up and over the grade, I didn't feel that this spot fully competed with my local spots in Newbury and Thousand Oaks. In comparison that's where I ranked this spot more of a 4/5. Still really good don't get me wrong, just wouldn't be my first go to choice and that's totally okay. The dishes I had were simple but classic. Went with butter chicken, white rices, and chicken tikka masala. Basic dishes I know, but that's the minimum standard of dishes to help me assess how much I'll like a spot. I will say the portion size was great and I love how saucy these dishes are, they don't skimp. A good amount of chicken and the rice was enough to have multiple servings. Both chicken dishes had good flavor and were spiced well. My biggest criticism was that the butter chicken and tikka masala were literally almost identical. I get naturally they are similar because of the spices and flavors, but this was almost like eating two of the same dishes, a little disappointed. Had they not labeled the containers I would have sworn they just gave me two of the same dishes, but they was not the case. I get both of these dishes at other restaurants all of the time and there is always a distinct flavor and coloring of the dishes that is noticeable, here just too similar for me. All that to say I won't order both dishes here at once and will be more mindful to get something with variety next time. All in all the food is good and it's really nice to have an Indian option in Camarillo with how limited we are. I will definitely be back to try some more dishes and excited to report back if going a little more adventurous helped up the score on this spot.

This restaurant holds a very special place in my heart. It started with a visit to their restaurant to try some of their delicious food. I was thoroughly impressed with how fresh and tasty their food is! This visit coincided with my wedding planning - and one day it struck me that I'd love for Fresh Curry Chefs to cater dessert for my wedding day. The team here is AWESOME. Kiran and Yash are the kindest, most genuine, hard working people. They worked closely with us to carefully curate our wedding dessert bar, pick and order dessert packaging that would match our aesthetics, and everything in between. We kept in close contact with them throughout the process, and they always answered any questions we had for them promptly. And let me tell you, our dessert bar was a HIT! People raved about all the desserts. Our only regret is that we wished we ordered much, much more for our guests! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to Yash, Kiran, and their whole team for such a seamless and successful wedding treat. I will forever come back to this place and eat from here, because it's simply the best!

From what I understand, the restaurant closed unexpectedly following the owner's death, and online ordering services may not have been updated immediately. As a result, some customers were still able to place orders even though the restaurant was no longer operating. While I understand the frustration, services such as DoorDash can typically issue refunds, and credit card companies can reverse charges when necessary. It's unfortunate that some of the owner's final reviews were negative because of circumstances beyond his control. Rather than assuming the worst, it's worth considering what may have been happening behind the scenes. My experience with the food was excellent, and I wanted to leave a review that reflects that.

Michael's Curry leaf hits the spot!…read more I think most Brit's will agree that the majority of US Indian restaurants don't come close to those back home but perhaps Michael's "Curry Leaf" comes very close! Firstly Michael's business is very much a one man band so how he manages to put out such authentic dishes with just one pair of hands is beyond me. I watched him rolling the Nan bread in front of me, like his life depended on it-- really incredible. I ordered Lamb biriyani -- it came in a nice bowl and was complimented by the Nan bread and some very tasty traditional Indian yogurt and a water for $20. Now this wasn't your plastic stuff which seems to be the order of the day for $20. This was pretty authentic Indian food for which I would have paid more for. Plus the presentation was also very appealing. I'm going to make a habit of coming here because I'd like to test the other dishes on the menu. Michael seems to have a great reputation in the area -- it shows by the number of orders he gets! Quite phenomenal. If you're in town and fancy something authentic, fresh, delicious and spicy why not try the "curry leaf".

The vegan options were plentiful -- and more importantly, they were exceptional. The flavors were bold and intentional, layered in a way that reminds you why you fell in love with Indian cuisine in the first place. I say this with fresh context: we've recently tried a couple of other Indian restaurants in the area, hoping to find something worth revisiting. One served a Dal so overspiced it was nearly inedible. Another offered a Tikka Masala so bland it barely registered. Neither experience was terrible -- but both served as a reminder of just how high Karma's bar actually is. In all my years coming here, I have never once been disappointed. Not once. The kitchen cooks with something that's hard to put into words -- a care and intentionality that comes through in every dish. You taste it. My 2014 review said the food was prepared with good heart and spirit, and that remains as true today as it was then. That's my subconscious, selfish way, from Yelp peeps. LOL! NOW, I finally get to writing a review and realize I HAVE NEVER taken a photo of their FOOOOOOD!!! (Insert face palm so hard it leaves a mark until Ash Wednesday) This visit was a special one to celebrate my friend. Ok, full disclosure: I already knew what she would want, but I also knew I wanted more, and different, meats/preparation. So, yeah, we had dinner and I asked for the menu again, then ordered another feast to go, which I ate for THREE DATS! (Admitednly, could have been 4 days and, actually their portions are PLENTY for 4 people to share, but I didn't. I over ate the 1st day, then paced myself the next 2! where's that palm hit again? POINT BEING!: These are delicious, hearty, fresh, wonderfully flavored dishes at a fair price, made and served by friendly, proud staff. Wow! Where to start - ok, samosas it is! Lovely little delicacies, and some nice options. I have eaten the chicken, the lamb and, of course, the staple Alu(aka Aloo) samosas. All beautifully packed with plenty of filling and light, crispy exterior. What next.... Curries! OHHHHH....oooooo...their curries are SO GOOD! I really love a mutton, but my friend favors poultry and seafood, so this day in May, we ordered the Shrimp Coconut Curry. FABULOUS!!!! AND PLENTIFUL!!!! I have also had Mutton Curry, Lamb Vindaloo, boneless Chicken Korma and the Goat in Coconut Curry - my personal fave. Since I'm talking curry, I'll remind you you'll want some bread with those curries. My favorite naan here are Onion Kulcha, Keema(lamb), and the awesome Peshwari (stuffed raisins, almonds, cashews, cherries and coconut). HowEV-ER - the GARLIC CHEESE NAAN is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!! I'm drooling just thinking about it.... Moving on toooo...TANDORI! if you like lamb, the rack her is TOO DELICIOUS to pass up! With a group? Get the mixed tandoori and everyone can taste a little something. Actually, it's a great appetizer for a group and a great way to introduce friends to Indian herbs and cooking methods. Honorable mentions go to: Saag Paneer(it's always near and dear, that Saag Paneer!), Paneer Masala, Daal Tudka, Papadum(add Mango Chutney, of course!), Rice Pellow(a saffron rice) and Mango Lassi to tame some of the spice. I order all my spice dishes "white girl spicy" so the mango lassi was really just a yummy yogurt treat. The restaurant is large, beautifully decorated with traditional and modern Indian music videos playing on hanging TVs and well cared for. The staff is always friendly, inviting, courteous and helpful. They keep their eyes moving to watch and see who needs anything, but also allow privacy and a no need to rush your meal feeling. The food presentation is lovely and I always feel like they are proud and enthusiastic to help guide me through dishes I'm not so familiar with. This area of the harbor is pretty quiet, serves a lot of people who live close by and walk, so the parking lot is large, mostly empty and free. Go. Enjoy. See why "we" won't want others to know about our fab little secret. Cheers! "CC"

The "Taste of Punjab", in Moorpark, was an over 20-mile one way trip for me from the SFV. If you…read morelike North Indian food, it is my opinion that the state of Punjab in India (and I have spent time there), provides food preparations that are a notch above the rest of its Indian state counterparts (e.g. Uttarkhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh). So I called the restaurant to fine tune. Their lunch buffet was only on Fridays. The spread would only contain 3 meat selections, all of them chicken (really, no variety?) and only 3 vegetable choices (really, is that all?) Then an appetizer, salad components and condiments. There would be rice and Naan too. A meager set of choices for a $15.99 buffet? Yet, the restaurant was enticing. Hence the pull, to taste their version, of Punjabi food. That sealed the deal for me and I was on my way to pay a visit, and eat. As expected, the choices were limited. There was chicken tikka, chicken tandoori and chicken curry. For vegetables, aloo bhegan (potatoes and eggplant), peas paneer (peas with sautéed Indian cheese cubes) and dahl (lentil curry). The Naan was not brought fresh table-side, but delivered to the hot case. Still, it was soft and wonderful, actually well executed, had good chew, cut into medium sized pieces. Rice came out in small portions in a bowl and was not dry (unlike other buffets). For appetizers, they had one choice, good sized samosas with a thin wrapping (also unlike other buffets) and a simple ,but very tasty and moist potato filling. They were truly fantastic (I had 4 of them, a first for me!). That too, came out, as needed. Like it should be. For me, this is also a sign of thoughtful food management, to provide just prepared items, to enhance freshness, cut down on wastage. On the condiment side though, there were disappointments. The tamarind chutney was watery and their mint chutney thick, and from a bottle. Not fresh. Raita was creamy, with body and wholesome. What was striking at the Taste of Punjab, was the unmistakable high quality and culinary prowess of the chef(s). Every dish oozed with freshness, aroma, rich flavor and an intoxicating blend of well married spices and taste. The three chicken dishes were tender, with soft meat having a perfect texture to satisfy. Overall, every selection on the buffet was unique because, it felt and tasted so different. High class, is the best way to describe it. I was really amazed and blown away. Was also pleased, that my relentless hunger, curiosity and the lengthy drive here to Moorpark, had borne sweet fruit. It was a reward. Definitely, a Punjabi lunch buffet to remember, for a very long time.

Their other food items are ok, nothing that great. The samosa chaat wasn't so fresh and didn't have as good a flavor as other places. Same for the vada pav. Their non-sweet items (except for the bhel) are not so good but sweet items seem to better.

If you're a true foodie, you've probably heard of Bikanervala but if you haven't don't fret…read more Bikanervala is a global name that started in the royal city of Bikaner, Rajasthan. Known for its irresistible sweets, snacks, and traditional Indian delicacies, The definition of feeling like "a kid in a candy store." The menu is large and can be a little intimidating for first-timers so keep that in mind but just know that you really can't go wrong with any of their dishes. There are plenty of small quick bites and chaat (hot and cold snacks) to pick. I was informed by the staff in about two weeks they will be rolling out they're larger northern India dishes, and platters, so stay tuned...And of course, they have cases upon cases of desserts. Here is what I would recommend: Chhole Bhature - MY FAVORITE DISH. Fluffy, golden-brown bhature (deep-fried bread) paired with a perfectly spiced chhole (chickpea curry) total comfort food. Pani Puri Atta - a more popular street food, are perfectly crisp and golden fried puris waiting for you to fill with potato, chickpeas and sauce. For dessert my absolute favorite small bite is their Kaju Apple sweet treat. Trust me. It's a 10/10 and the inside filling was so fun, I felt like a kid again. It was magical...Some honorable mentions would be their Pink Karachi Halwa (think a sweet thick gummy treat) and their Malai roll. Thank you to Bikanervala's staff for making me feel welcome and putting up with all of my questions lol. Everyone was so sweet and helpful. Just a note, please be patient with the team as they have only recently opened and are still navigating training and cook times. My order came out super quickly when I was here but I know some others noted concerns about long wait times who had gotten there before me. I do think it depends what you order but as they get their footing I'm sure times will improve.

It paired well with the tangy Aloo Tiki (potato pancakes with onions and chutney). The chicken Korma was creamy and rich and nicely spicy. Jalfrezzi had broccoli, cauliflower & carrots cooked in a thick and savory yellow curry sauce with coconut milk. Both were outstanding and were served with basmati rice. Prices are reasonable.

For example, twice (or three times) now the chicken tikka has been very tomato forward. Don't get me wrong, I know its a tomato dish and I love it but when it basically JUST tastes like tomatoes, it's very underwhelming. We love getting the combination plates so we can get a little something of everything. My favorites are their drinks and dessert. The Nimbu Pani (ginger lemonade) is STRONG with the ginger flavor which I love. The mango lassi is super fresh. And the rice Kheer (rice pudding) is perfection. Starters are pretty strong too like the samosa, curry fries, and 69 (sauteed chicken that's a house favorite for a reason. Flavors are strong and perfectly balanced!). Service can be very slow. We usually have to wave someone down to get refills or a check. But overall they're nice. Love the decor in the place; the lamps, in particular, are stunning. It can be a little dark in there, emphasis on the mood lighting, but maybe it's better in the daytime as I've only been there for dinner. Place is in a shopping center so parking is a breeze.
