    Two taco platter
    Lynda H.

Since our go-to restaurant is no longer here (but has moved to Kihei) we decided to try Freshies. I ordered just one taco, while my partner ordered the two taco platter. I ordered the taco with no heat, and they didn't bat an eye - said sure, and it turned out perfect. The taco included baked fish, cabbage, tomatoes covered in cheese with sauce without the heat. My partner's platter included spicy beans and rice which he found everything just like he wanted it. The staff were helpful and the service was fast. We'll go back.

Amazing food within downtown Makawao. Ate in their beautiful little courtyard area. Got the omelette but ended up wishing I got the breakfast Sammy because look how good it looks! Beware of roosters & chickens lol

Freshies is a charming little spot tucked away in the heart of Makawao. Located right off Baldwin Avenue behind Makawao Public House, this spot greets you with rustic charm and crisp upcountry breezes. There was a line out the door when we arrived. We figured out that you order at the counter first, find a seat, and they'll bring your food out to you. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, so we opted for the outdoors in the courtyard to enjoy the cool, refreshing morning light. I got my coconut cold brew and sipped on that while we waited for our order. The food came out faster than we expected. I went for a Denver omelette, which felt like a luxury in the midst of the egg shortage. My omelette was just the right mix of flavors with ham, bell peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese. I opted to get the potatoes and sourdough toast as my sides and overall, I really enjoyed both, especially the sourdough. Btw, they also use only organic eggs (if it matters to you). My other half got the vegan chorizo breakfast burrito and that hit the spot. The chorizo had a bit of a kick to it and for a 'healthier' dish we were actually both pleasantly surprised! It had good flavor and I would get it again the future. Our son tried the fruit parfait which was nice and colorful, but not as enjoyable for him. He wasn't feeling the homemade granola and it was pretty pricey for what it was. My omelette was pretty pricey too at $20.95, but ... I really wanted an omelette and it was delicious. Overall, we had a great experience. The courtyard was such a nice, peaceful spot, the food was good, and the service was friendly. Definitely a great spot for brunch and we'll be back for sure.

We enjoy this place for a late breakfast/brunch. Parking is behind the building off Baldwin Avenue. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They have a selection of omelettes and sandwiches along with French toast and proteins. Hot coffee is a nice complement to breakfast. It's a nice indoor breakfast on a rainy day.

Stopped in while exploring Makawao, unfortunately this was a miss for me, the staff were kind enough to offer a refund for my Thai chicken salad that had raw brocoli and very gnarly pieces of chicken. Other members in my party enjoyed their meals including a burger.

My last visit to Maui over 20 years ago, was mainly spent visiting our Maui family at their homes and at the beach. This time, we unexpectedly spent some in up country. And this time, we made it to Haleakala. Because of some comments made by our friend the day before, we lightly drank and ate. But once we were done with this awe-inspiring way to start our day, we headed down the mountain, into Makawao and broke our fast with Freshies. It was already 9:30 am. It was interesting to see the line outside to order but I can understand why once I observed the situation at the register, which was a little weird for me. When you get to the counter, you order your meal along with your drinks. You WAIT for your drink order to be filled, you then pay and find your seat. So the line isn't long, but you're gonna wait a little bit. My group consisted of six people. I ordered the shrimp scampi omelette, yum! However, not a fan of brown rice. Asians need white rice. And unfortunately, white rice is not an option. My sister and cousin ordered the loco moco. They enjoyed it and said that the beef patty tasted like it was marinated. They also would have preferred it with white rice but was also ok with the brown. My other sister and male cousin got Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice,, no complaints from them. and my bro-in-law got fruits and enjoyed his coffee. We also happened to bump into our cousin who lives in Kihei. Always great to see family out and about. Therefore, Freshies is also popular with the locals. We also learned that Freshie's has a location in Reno, NV. My cousin lives in Sparks and so she'll be bringing her family to that location. There's some seating inside as well as tables outside, where we sat and enjoyed the morning sun in the cool climate. We needed the sustenance since we spent another 2-hours shopping locally. And even after that, we were still feeling content from our breakfast.

A great spot tucked away in Makawao. We were searching for breakfast after sunrise on Haleakala and came across this. The service was efficient and pleasant, quickly refreshing coffee and clearing plates. We sat indoors. Food was excellent with great portion sizes. Highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area.

My wife and I have been to Freshies a few times. We sit outside in the courtyard, beneath the trees, in the shade and savor a well made coffee and their wonderful cold brew coffee while reading our books. In terms of truly chilled experiences it's one of the best on Maui. I also ordered the fish taco platter with pinto beans and brown rice. It's really good: fresh grilled fish with cabbage, cheese, diced tomatoes on top, with soft tortillas. Filling and healthy. The staff at Freshies are amazingly friendly. A place with this much gentle charm is worth a drive.

Yogurt, granola, and fruit parfait. YUM!

We stopped here on our way back from seeing the sunrise at Haleakala. The homemade granola was delicious! Highly recommend stopping in for breakfast or brunch.

a perfect afternoon in makawao isn't complete without a soba noodle salad, chicken burrito, and tuna melt AND MOST IMPORTANTLY A LAVENDER LEMONADE from freshies!!! :) the servers are so wonderful and the seating outside is my favorite.

Stopped at Freshie's for breakfast. I ordered avocado toast, and my cousin ordered the breakfast tacos. She said her tacos were good except there was way too much salad on top. My avocado toast was just okay. They didn't put a lot of avocado on each piece of bread, so there was lots of bread that I didn't eat. I would never order this again! It was probably the worst avocado toast I've ever had at a restaurant.

Great place for a slow morning breakfast with friends. Service was great, they came multiple times to check in and refill drinks. Delicious food and ample seating outside. Also dog friendly area so bring your fur baby!

What a wonderful surprise! An unexpected gem In Makawao with great food, good service and charming upcountry ambiance! We had the green goddess wrap filled with veggie goodness. The delicious coconut curry with chicken had a fresh slaw in addition to chicken, cooked veggies and rice. Check out Freshies for a snack or lunch if you are up in Makawao. It's a treat!

We were heading back from a sunrise at Haleakalā when I decided to check Yelp for good nearby coffee places and this popped up, so we headed on over. This coffee shop is on Baldwin Ave in Makawao and the inside is pretty large with lots of seating. They also have a display case with baked goods over by where you order. After looking over the menu I ultimately decided on one of their specials, a cherry vanilla latte, which I don't think I have seen before in a coffee. After only a couple of minute wait, I had my latte and was out the door. My coffee here ended up tasting really good, almost like a cherry vanilla ice cream. The cherry flavor came first and that was followed by the sweet vanilla. While I know the coffee was there, it got lost a bit with the cherry vanilla flavoring. Still, I enjoyed it. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. A cherry vanilla latte is a new combo for me, but I enjoyed it and only wish the espresso was a bit more pronounced.

You can tell they put real care into what they serve, and it shows in every sip. We ordered two lattes, one with brown sugar and one with vanilla, and both were amazing. The flavors were balanced, not overly sweet, and complemented the quality of the espresso perfectly. We also shared a cheese danish that my husband absolutely loved. He said it was one of the best he has ever had, and I have to agree -- buttery, flaky, and so fresh. The shop itself has such a fun, cozy vibe. There's even a swing inside, which adds such a unique and playful touch. It's the kind of place you actually want to hang out in, not just grab a coffee and go. Service was excellent. The barista was super friendly and even made the cutest latte art, which totally made my day. I ordered a 12 oz and loved that it came in a mug, while my husband got a 16 oz to-go. My only wish is that they would offer mugs for the larger sizes too. It would be a nice way to cut down on paper and plastic and make the experience even better. Overall, Akamai Coffee is a gem.
