We had a great night at Marlow in Upcountry Maui--this place is absolutely worth the drive. First tip: bring a jacket or sweater. It's cool up there, and it adds to the cozy, Upcountry vibe. Marlow is a lively spot with an open kitchen that makes the whole experience feel energetic and welcoming. Definitely make a reservation. We ran into a delay getting up the hill due to a downed utility pole and messaged through the OpenTable app. Eden, who was hosting that night (and we later learned also serves), immediately called us, walked us through the menu, and even got our order started so we wouldn't hold up service. She was incredibly knowledgeable and set the tone for the evening with genuine hospitality. At the bar, Jesse, our bartender, took great care of us. From the drink menu, he made an excellent Black Cherry Manhattan with Burning Chair bourbon, Cocchi di Torino, cherry, and Angostura bitters--smooth, balanced, and delivered tableside. We also enjoyed a bottle of Gamay wine, which paired beautifully with the food and rounded out the meal. For dinner: * Mafaldine Bolognese (Lopes Farm beef, gremolata, parm - dinner only) was rich and comforting. My wife loved it. * Steak Tagliata (horseradish crème fraîche, herb verde - dinner only) was cooked perfectly and full of flavor--my dad cleaned his plate. * I had the Funghi white pie with local mushrooms, mozzarella, garlic confit, and parmigiano, and it was outstanding--earthy, balanced, and satisfying. Dessert capped things off nicely, and by the end of the night we were happily full. A special shoutout to Kira, our server--kind, fun, and professional. It was neat finding out she's also a Maui High grad, from a different generation, but with that same local pride and warmth that makes dining in Hawaiʻi special. Big mahalo to the kitchen crew--you can feel the care and teamwork in every dish. Payment was easy using Toast, which we appreciated. All around, Marlow delivers thoughtful food, great cocktails, and genuine hospitality. It's wonderful to have a fun, lively, open-kitchen restaurant in Upcountry Maui. Makawao, HI. I really liked this restaurant . We were seated without a reservation and the place was very busy. All the staff ladies were exceptionally friendly and helpful. This was about 6:00 pm for dinner. The vibe is casual but trendy. A buzz of activity was going on. Everything we tried was just bursting with flavors! We started out with the meatballs which were as good as grandma's, who made the best, of course. I would categorize them as "Memorable Meatballs". The sauce that came with them (2 of them) was perfect in every way. The chopped salad was large enough for three people and was fresh and delicious. The dressing was a great complimentary addition to the greens. The braised pork pizza was over the top good. Just the right amount of char on a sourdough crust and a sauce that was just full of flavor. The Lilikoi butter provided a bright spot on the tomato palate. This I believe, helps make this pizza unique. The prawns were large and you get six. They tasted great , soaked in chimichurri . They would be perfect with just a little less salt and a bit more garlic. Mushrooms in crème fraiche, just outstanding. Note that the emphasis is on the sauce, not the mushrooms. For dessert was the gelato with fennel pollen, honey, olive oil, and sea salt. This is an absolute must to try, it's divine. The Panna cotta is rich and silky, nicely done. There is a decorative crumble on top that adds a little crunch and gives the dish a good presentation. There are some sweet floral notes in the custard, most likely cardamom. The ginger fizz drink is very good with a nice ginger kick without tasting like ginger ale. A well constructed mocktail. The vibe in the morning is about a 180 degree turn about. There is no table service, not busy enough. Order at the counter. The cheerful night time ladies have been replaced by a solitary glum teen who is not happy and maybe don't even like the people she has to deal with in the morning. She is efficient though. Nevertheless, the quiche was great. Great flavor, great crust, interesting top glaze that was different from any I've seen. The latte featured the same topping of fennel pollen, etc. that was on the gelato last night. Pretty amazing version of a latte. My suggestion, to make it perfect, is to order it with an extra shot in a large ceramic cup. The bathroom here is clean and I never encountered a line. read more

We were spending a day up country, and had heard great things about this place. We all love Italian and my daughter especially is a huge pizza lover! The service was excellent. The food was fantastic: the braised pork pizza, and the gnocchi were favorites at the table where we ordered multiple pizzas and pasta dishes to share. The winner of the evening, however, was the eggplant parmesan ! I was designated driver, but I understand the cocktails were delicious and they had some good wines on the menu as well. The service was friendly and efficient with staff checking in on us frequently to fill up waters, take additional drink, orders, and clear away dishes as we were finished. Waitress was less than friendly. The food seemed overpriced for the quantity, although tasty. They have added a 3% BOH (back of house) service fee to the bill, which i find egregious. With the open kitchen and open floor plan the restaurant was so noisy that it was hard to talk to the people at our table. We have had a couple of bad experiences at this restaurant in the past but keep going back due to the limited options in the area. We will not go again. read more

This is a long overdue review! We absolutely love Marlow's. Everything on the menu is delicious. My absolute favorite order is the mortadella sandwich. My husband and I always share the chopped salad (minus chickpeas) and the mortadella sandwich. We got to enjoy it this time with the family and my nephew kept raving about their pepperoni pizza the staff is super friendly. Went here about a week ago and was happy we did. We were not sure where we wanted to go because it was a dark and stormy night upcountry. Then we remembered Marlow was open so we decided to try them out as I have not been there in about a year. We did not have reservations so we did a walk in and they were able to accommodated us quickly. I would recommend reservations as they were busy. Our server came over very quickly and he was great. They had the usual menu but also had some food and drink specials. It was dated for that night so im not sure how often they do the specials but they looked good. We decided to go with the Braised pork pizza which comes with lilikoi butter on it. So good ! We also ordered the Mafaldine Bolognese pasta. Also so good ! My other half had a bottled Coke and I had a Black Cherry Manhattan. I enjoyed it my guest said it tasted like medicine. In my opinion it was good medicine. I enjoyed it and it went perfectly with dinner. Overall a very nice experience. I was on Maui to help out at a big Yelp Elite Event, and many MANY local Yelpers told me I must take the journey to the Upcountry and order a pizza from Marlow. So, of course, I obliged! But first, I stopped at Mahalo Aleworks next door, as I wasn't quite ready for lunch yet. I was excited to find out that I could order a pizza to go from Marlow and eat it at the brewery. It was hard to decide what to get, but it looked like their Fungi Pizza was a popular choice so I grabbed one and waited while I finished my beer. It took awhile, but was well worth the wait. The pizza was phenomenal. Hot, cheesy, and covered in tender mushrooms. It needed nothing, as it was the perfect slice on its own. My only regret is that they don't make a "small" size as this pie was HUGE and could have fed an army. I was only inside actual Marlow for a few minutes while I picked up my pizza, but I loved its quaint, rustic vibe. It was full of people and there was a waitlist - if you go in person, I recommend getting there early (or enjoying it from next door as I did). They also have some tasty-sounding non-pizza options. Wow, we visited this place for Easter dinner. We were traveling from San Francisco, and the food here was absolutely delicious. I've traveled to Italy, and the pizza here was comparable to having one there. It was very authentic in taste, not bland, and the fresh vegetables were a great addition. We ordered the bolognese, pork pizza, ciopino, and for dessert, the olive oil drip with ice cream and cake. The chefs in the back were incredibly friendly and waved goodbye to our family. If you haven't been here, it's a must-try in the island. It's my favorite place in the entire island. We visit the island every year, and this will be our ideal dinner spot for the time. Walking in, the restaurant looks extremely well done. From the decor, to the music, to the lighting absolutely wonderful. We were greeted right when walking in the door, we made a reservation, which made seating a breeze. Our server was attentive and informative. We ordered the meatball appetizer which was incredibly done. My wife had the margarita pizza and I got the Wagyu strip loin. Everything was absolutely fantastic. Their sauces are made in house and did you farm to table ingredients. everything's locally sourced and it showed. I am extremely picky about my steaks, so I was a little nervous, ordering something of that caliber. Not only was the medium rare cook perfectly done, but the crust on the outside of the steak was absolutely perfect. The pizza had fresh ingredients and was cooked well. I got their gelato with fennel pollen, olive oil and honey. I do not remember the name of it, but it was phenomenal. We went to Marlow on a day trip to Maui. We got 2 pizzas and a chopped salad. I do not recommend the chopped salad at all. The one I received didn't taste great at all for the price ($20) and had tons of brown leaves and bits of lettuce in it. I was having to pick them off of my fork every time I grabbed a bite and I got sick of it. The taste was not worth the effort by any means. The pizzas we got though? Well, I'm happy to tell you that this salad was anything but that. We were blown away because we did not have any expectations. It simply was the BEST salad we have ever had. My husband and I go here regularly for an easy date night. Food is great-the chopped salad, meatball, and braised pork red pie are our most frequently ordered items. I usually try their specialty cocktail-it's generally something fun and inventive. It can get pretty warm in the restaurant because of the wood fire pizza oven, but there is outside seating. It can also be a bit loud as well, if you have difficulty hearing with background noise (some of the seats near the windows are a *little* quieter). Service is always professional and friendly. Per my co-worker who super love this restaurant , they fly over to Maui for her annual girls trip just for Marlow, for the day. On a recent island adventure to Maui for the day, I've decided to give Marlow a try after seeing my coworker's social media post and I am glad I did, no regrets after seeing all the wonderful Facebook post and Yelp reviews. We spent the morning at upcountry and Marlow was in the area, which was perfect! note they open for lunch til 2 pm, luckily we checked in at 1:27 pm and got a table, with about 4 minute wait. Marlow is such trendy restaurant, nice, new, very welcoming! The place could get loud due to how busy the restaurant is and we also sat near the kitchen/register. I really love the decor here, there are cool products for sale at the front. Brylee was our waitress, she is super friendly and helpful! She recommended 2 favorite /popular pizza, but since it was just the 2 of us, 2 pizza would be too much, ended up with one of the choices she recommended. From Yelp photos, I wanted to get the burrata with tomatoes but that was a special and not available, we went with pizza and salad, Salisicca ($25.) red pie comes with house italian sausage, onion and add jalapeño ($2.) and the chopped salad ($17.) Kupa'a farm greens, mozz, red onion, cherry tomato, chickpea, pepperoncini, with a lemon vinaigrette dressing. The verdict, We did enjoy our thin crust wood fire style pizza, even though the crust was a little on the burnt side, it was still great! The chopped salad was omg Wow Yums! I just love the flavors, and how fresh it is, love the dressing. Pizza and salad sure went well together! Totally recommend this combination! For dessert, I wanted the bread pudding seen on yelp photos but not available, sad face. I wasn't ready to try the olive oil gelato but went with the salted caramel and kula strawberry gelato, so refreshing and good! All in all, we enjoyed our very first time visit here and it won't be our last. We couldn't finish the entire pizza, had 2 slice left which we brought back home to enjoy! You can't get in without a reservation, unless apparently you know someone and then cut everyone in line (including reservations). Marlow is a must! What a gem in Upcountry Maui. Good friends on the island had recommended this place to us last year, but we didn't have a chance to go until our most recent visit a few weeks ago. And boy were they right...my husband & I loved it! Being that he's 100% Italian (and me being Italian by marriage hehe), we're very picky about our pizza! We decided to try their Margherita Pizza and it totally hit the spot and was cooked to perfection! Marlow actually specializes in artisan style, neapolitan sourdough pizza and uses locally sourced ingredients, so you know it's going to be fresh & tasty! They have a great cocktail & wine menu too, so we tried their Aperol Spritz which was balanced & refreshing, and much like the ones we've enjoyed in Italy. Big thank you and mahalo to Hailey P. for being so welcoming, and the whole staff, especially since we got there just in time (they were going to be closing the lunch service in just over 30min so we asked first if there was enough time for us, and they assured us that there was!). Food was excellent. Service was just plain rude. The couple in front of us was waiting when we got there and they made them wait for about 10 minutes after we arrived despite having a lot of open tables and sat them at a table that was open when we got there- essentially making them wait for no reason it would appear. We actually asked if they were closing or something as the entire staff seemed to be intentionally just ignoring them (and us after we arrived). After they finally got seated we stood there for another five minutes (and no one else came in or was waiting) before anyone ever asked us how many in our party and then told us it would be another five minute wait - only to seat us at the table we had been standing next to the entire time since we walked in. They were only half full for lunch and seemed pretty slow so no idea why they treated people so unwelcomingly. They almost seemed annoyed that we were there. The food was fantastic but no smiles and no friendliness and we noticed it was the same for other tables. Our thoughts are they dislike tourists so maybe this is a local only place to go was our thought. We just wanted a nice lunch and this place had snooty service that really was pretentious for waitresses walking around in jeans and birkenstocks. Food five stars, service no stars! read more

I didn't have a chance to take a pic but we ordered the gnocchi 2 different ways. First one was ordered off the menu. The sauce was rich and creamy...the gnocchi was pillowy soft with a nice chew and perfectly cooked. It went well with the chewy pancetta. The second one we asked for a custom order with their red sauce and mushrooms (no cream or cheese). Wow...the mushrooms gave the dish a different texture to go with the perfectly cooked gnocchi.
