Food is fine but totally unwilling to accommodate. Freezing cold and refused to let us (with two small kids) switch to a different table or make it slightly warmer even though everyone was freezing. What terrible service. Food isn't even close to good enough to make that worth it. read more

I was really excited to try this place but ended up feeling disappointed. We arrived on a Saturday evening and it was busier than expected. Apparently reservations are expected, which I wasn't planning on for a casual tavern atmosphere so we had to wait a bit at the bar but not too long. The seats are the bar are strangely shaped with wide sides and close together so it's very hard to squeeze in between two people. The decor in the dining area is nicely done but looks more like a trendy hipster bar than the casual tavern I was expecting after they made the transition from Ease. The food is still just ok and on the pricey side for the quality and quantity served ($20-30 entrees). I wanted some comfort food so I ordered the meatloaf. The meat itself was delicious but the "tangy glaze" was not a tangy glaze at all but a layer of incredibly bland lukewarm salsa fresca. It was quite bizarre. It was neither a glaze nor tangy. And as a result there was no sauce to mix into the whipped potatoes as I typically like to do with meatloaf and potatoes so those tasted quite bland as well. They did give me a choice of 3 different side vegetables in addition to the potatoes which was nice, but it only amounted to 4 tiny pieces of asparagus (not even whole spears). The cocktail and beer lists are lackluster and uninspired. I expected a better beer list for a Tavern but there were hardly any craft beer or local regional options, just generic choices like bud, coors, Stella, dogfish. The volume was quite loud in the dining room from all the hard surfaces so it was really hard to hear my friend talk. First time I've been to Frick Park Tavern (last time I was there it was Dunnings Grill) and I'm already craving to go back! Reservations were made ahead of time (recommended as they fill up quick) and upon arrival, they had a table already accommodating a baby stroller. Our waitress was professional, attentive, suggestive, and kind. Bar staff were prompt and very friendly. Food was delicious - special deviled egg of the day was bacon ranch and it was killer! I got the meatloaf with whipped potatoes and broccolini - it was so fresh and tasty. My family ordered the homemade cavatelli w/ scrimp and the short ribs. We almost cleared our plates - they were big portions! Everything was delicious. It's been 16+ years since I've been to this location and it was Dunning's Grill back then. The overhaul of the inside looks amazing - cozy atmosphere, awesome bar display, and spacious. Looking forward to my next trip back home to Pittsburgh to swing by for a drink and meal. The spinach salad was good but I put too much dressing on it; it was too oily. The meatloaf was awful. Take a piece of Italian bread, sprinkle it with pepper & gravy -same taste. Mashed potatoes tasted like Bob Evans from the supermarket. Asparagus was tough. Other dishes may be good but the meatloaf definitely was not. Service was friendly & pleasant. Visited FPT this last weekend. This was our third visit and the first since the pandemic started. We ordered the deviled eggs starter and salmon, pierogies, and chicken salad for entrees. We all enjoyed our food. The cocktails were generous and very good. The place was at maybe 80% capacity. Also, the service was prompt and courteous. We will return. read more

This place has so much potential--excellent location, lots of outdoor dining etc. but, even though they promised to have vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu when they reopened they are hard to find on the menu. There's one vegetarian entree but no sandwich. Sad because Regent Square has a ton of vegans and vegetarians who would love to eat there. read more

I ordered calimari for starters. It was good, but the serving was quite small for the price. We ordered a Caesar salad to share, which is a fairly typical restaurant habit for my husband and me. We laughed because the "salad" was literally 3 leaves of uncut romaine lettuce laid on its side, a few croutons, and ranch or similar dressing. It was, imho, NOT a Cesar salad and certainly not worth $7.00! The grilled veggie panini was very good, and made up for the less than stellar start to the meal. In general, however, I don't understand how restaurants (not just this one) think that skimping on cheap ingredients like lettuce (or a veggie side) saves them money. I think it just backfires as the customer is left feeling like they got taken. I am not asking for super-sized servings, just what you might serve a dinner guest in your own home. read more

My only problem was when the waitress asked if we had room for dessert, I said I would love a cup of coffee. She said, "I sorry, we are out of coffee". What?????? This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. My favorite thing is the Panko Chicken salad. It's a large portion for 15$ and the chicken is always crispy and perfect. They change the menu seasonally and I'm sad that the calamari is gone. I've never had anything over cooked as mentioned in other reviews, maybe it depends on who is cooking that night. They have the best lemon cake. I think the prices aren't too bad, considering the quality of the food and how expensive food is now days. They also have nice vegetarian options. The serving staff is always super friendly. read more

My first trip to FPT did not disappoint. It was packed on a Friday night with an hour wait for a party of 4. They took our phone number, and we went to get a drink at another bar while we waited. They did say that they take reservations and are on Open Table. All the drinks and food we ordered were good. The item we enjoyed the least was the cajun chicken sandwich. The server was friendly and brought our food and drinks fairly quickly for how crowded it was. I'll definitely be back! read more

I never review things, but some things need to be said. I want to also state that I had just had a procedure and hadn't eaten in 30+ hours (anything should taste good) Starter - Calamari: over cooked, chewy. Entree - Roasted? Salmon: this one Jesus. First it says roasted salmon for title, but then says seared in the description. I asked for medium, oh boy. The piece of salmon I got was from the end of the filet, a flat piece, which was over over cooked and dry as sand. It wasn't seared either, I can only assume it was placed into the oven right after the ticket was rang in and sat there until it pathetically plated in a bowl? It was on top of butternut risotto which could have been creamier and greens that could have used seasoning. In fact EVERYTHING needed seasoning. There couldn't have been any salt or pepper used in any single piece of this dish. My wife wouldn't admit that her food was bad because she gets embarrassed, but the Brussel sprout app she was burnt to a crisp. They looked like little flaky pieces of charcoal. The did apologize and comp my food, but that won't get me to come back. I would not recommend eating here if you enjoying eating. read more

I'm a local in Regent Square and very excited for this place. They knocked it out of the park with this one. SO MUCH more comfortable inside than Ease. The bar is a lot of fun and has been full of people. Everything I've ordered has been awesome so far (except maybe the pasta and it was just a little bland). It's an improvement from their previous brand and it fits nicely with the neighborhood. The food is better than it was when they were Ease, and the staff were friendly and hard working. They give kids a bendable toy and sheet which is a nice touch. I hope they can keep up the good work and stay consistent. I recommend giving them a try. read more

I guess we made the mistake of going back to the Tavern the first day it was reopened. Our memories of previous COVID-19 were all excellent. Food was great, service was great and menu was great. However, this experience was not so good. We had Caesar Salad that did not resemble any I have had before. Spinach, croutons and what tasted like bottled dressing do not make a good Caesar. We were asked if we wanted capers on out salad and I said yes and my wife said no. When we got the salad I could find none on my salad and my wife found "a few" that were as hard as rocks. When I asked about them the server checked with the kitchen and said that they fry their capers, really? In addition, the glass my wife was served iced tea in was cracked all the way up the side and should NEVER have been served to a customer. Our main dish was Primavara, one with Shrimp and the other Salmon over a bed of fettuccine pasta with thinly sliced carrots, a few thinly sliced red peppers and a lot of broccoli. With the exception of the pasta slightly under cooked, the dish was not bad, and definitely filling. Our server did not handle and capers and cracked issue very well and did not even apologize for the mix up. I fully expected our dinner to be much better considering they had not been open for some time, and we were one of only two tables being served. We decided we will give them a bye and come back in several months and see if things get ironed out. read more

Excellent new restaurant in Regent Square! Waited several months for this to open. Nicely renovated inside and the food was delicious. Less expensive than its predecessor and much better food. I think this restaurant will do extremely well in the area. read more

We had an excellent dinner experience here tonight! We had not been to this dining space since it was Dunning's. Would recommend making reservations for Saturday nights. We didn't have reservations, but were seated at a high table near the bar...which was just fine. The service was very good and friendly. The acoustics are very good, allowing us to easily converse with each other. We ordered wedding soup. It truly was the best we ever tasted...almost a meal in itself. Our daughter had Mojo tacos which she enjoyed. My husband had a robust Reuben with fries. I had the Great Grains salad with grilled chicken added...very good. We split dessert with a chocolate fudge shortbread custard with fruit topping, and a fruit tart with pastry creme filling and fruit topping. Would definitely dine here again! read more

This is exactly the type of place we've dying to have in the neighborhood-ish (Squirrel Hill residents of 10 years). The cozy and stylish decor make it so inviting and give such a positive feeling. We tried 3 different cocktails and they were all outstanding, super fresh tasting and very fairly priced. We tried the deviled eggs and cured vegetables which were delicious but $5 for one and a half eggs is a bit too much. The charcuterie board was definitely the low point with only 2 cheeses and a very minimal selection of salami - just one type and only a few slices and at that very overpriced but at least tasty. Entrees tried were meatloaf and pork chop - again delicious and satisfying if not a few dollars over-priced. Our service was super friendly but definitely lagged at several points - waiting to order drinks and waiting to ask for the check (another server ended up coming by to ask us). The entrees were slow to come and did not get an update from the server. A different server who brought them out apologized for the wait and that at least was appreciated. Other than these few things it would have been 5 stars. We will absolutely be back - just won't ordered the apps we did. And trust that the service will improve after the opening week.
