When a microwave oven stops functioning, it is often difficult to find a replacement that fits the size of the cabinet opening properly. An alternative to searching for and finding a suitable replacement is to have the broken one repaired. Friedman's is an excellent choice. Your microwave will likely be restored to functionality at a reasonable cost. But I advise against using the subcontractor company that will pick up and deliver your microwave. They are not very competent. Deliver the microwave and pick it up yourself if possible. read more

I felt very lucky to find these guys after my built-in microwave died, and finding a new one the same size was proving impossible. I called multiple other appliance repair places, and none of them would work on microwaves- they all told me to just buy a new one (I hate disposing of perfectly good things, it drives me crazy to be so wasteful). Luckily Friedman's was willing to replace the circuit board, and they did so perfectly with a quick turn around of only a day or two (impressive during early-COVID lockdown! My microwave suddenly stopped working on me and after avoiding taking it to get fixed and being unable to heat up leftovers, I finally took a recommendation from a friend to head to this spot. Make sure you call ahead as their posted hours may not be entirely correct. When you walk in, it looks like you've time traveled back to some other era with all the machinery lying around. I guess most people today would rather buy new than repair which is unfortunate. This old repair guy is awesome! I had a Panasonic microwave that stopped working after 7 years and I brought it in to have it looked at. Was charged $20 for a diagnostic fee which than was applied toward the repair. Total cost was $54 to repair my now working microwave! Amazing! Love this place! I could have bought a cheap microwave for $50 but I just don't feel right throwing away a big appliance that can be repaired. Friedman's Microwave Ovens & TV Repair is helpful, affordable and awesome! Today, I met the owner (I think) and he quickly sorted me out in 2 ways: - 1 sold me a fuse ($3)I couldn't find anywhere else (radio shack, Ace Hardware) and by - Offering to take my microwave oven and give me a $10 estimate (used towards any work needed). Others in this space quoted me between $75 - 100 for doing the same! I was on a quest to fix our microwave that had suddenly just stopped working. [IF you care, it's a Magic Chef (Model # MCD1611ST), that we bought without much forethought about 6 years ago at Home Depot for $100-125] The quest was more about NOT going with the well-established flow of throwing away stuff and buying more stuff that will subsequently break down. Thanks to Friedman's and the fact that the fuse seems to have been the only issue - all is well in the way of microwaves in our lives again. NO 15lbs of metal parts, wires or plastics going into the trash. NO new expenditures on newly manufactured parts (incl. their built-in obsolesce) A small victory in terms of personal sovereignty. I have an expensive Microwave with a lot of fancy features and worked great until one day it went sizzle. The replacement value was over $3000 so we decided to down spec to a nice Bosch that was 1/2 the price and turned out not to fit (our fault). Plan B - Wife found Friedmans on the web and I took it over for an estimate. They charge $20 for an estimate that's applied to the repair charge. I had a quote within a day for $150 in parts and about $80 in labor. They had the parts in stock and fixed the oven in a day. :0) I love this place for a few reasons. When my microwave stopped working, I called a couple of other places that had higher rating on Yelp, they quoted 40$ and 85$ just to take a look at what is wrong. At this place, it costs 10$ to get an estimate. If you like the esitimated cost of the repair, that 10$ is credited to your final bill. I got my microwave working for 36$ total. I saved money and I could feel good about repair and reuse (which is better than recycle) of an electronic item. read more

Greg did an expert job fixing my GE Monogram microwave oven. it needed a new main circuit board. He was able to provide a refurbished one for half the price of a new one. Total labor charge, including diagnosis, was only $30. It took one day to get the part and one more day to get the microwave fixed. Very professional serviceman (microwave and, surprisingly, TV technician at the same time) from Friedman's Microwave Ovens Repair company repaired from one visit my Viking microwave (he changed part, named "Magnetron", witch he had in his track) and, after I understood during our conversation, that they repaired TV-sets also, he founded and fixed problem in my Samsung LCD TV (often don't wonted come ON), changing some small parts in "Power supply". Our four-year-old Panasonic microwave just stopped working one day. It's been a fantastic microwave otherwise, and even though we could get a new replacement model from Costco for less than $140, it somehow felt wrong to just give up and buy yet another thing. Since I live in Benicia, it was a trip to the city, but I made a day of it on both ends, (leaving microwave and picking-up microwave). Friedmans took care of me. I read the reviews and called about my broken microwave. The owner was little gruff but a gentleman. Was told up front that there was a $10 estimate fee. I brought it in late in the afternoon and he called the next day. The cost was $116 and well worth it because I love my microwave and it has an unusual size that fits perfect in my kitchen. He had it ready the next day. The $10 was credited to the total. He showed me the part he replaced. It works great. I did a lot of research when our old microwave broke and learned that I needed a wave guide cover. But ours wasn't attached with a screw, like some YouTube clips showed, so I decided I needed someone more skilled than myself. I also read reviews looking for new microwave models and found that by the time the reviews got written, the products were no longer being made. I also found that all the new models that would fit the dedicated counter space I had were much smaller than my old model. Friedman's came to the rescue--we paid our $10 estimate fee and it was credited to the repair fee of $53. I was a bit suspicious at first that they were capitalizing on the name of the appliance store in Pleasant Hill; as far as I know there's no connection between the two. There also used to be a huge Friedman's Microwave store on Geary; not sure if there's a connection there either. All I know is that my microwave works like new now, and there's one fewer appliance in the scrapyard. read more

(Only caveat: if you're going to use the Yelp coupon, you must tell him first, so he can know ahead of time and quote you accordingly; there's a problem if you just do it and bring it in.) My GE microwave completely stopped working just three months after I bought it. Way too soon, but too late to return it to the company I bought it from through Amazon. So I had to rely on GE's one-year parts and labor warranty. But then I found another problem. I called several appliance repair companies in San Francisco and none of them would do "warranty work." It was ridiculously hard to find out who would do it, but finally GE customer service told me I could go to Friedman's. My little, nearly new microwave needed a new circuit board and Friedman's ordered it and installed it. The repair was done quickly and I had the pleasure of walking out of Friedman's without having to pay a cent. was vacuuming and pulled the plug out of a flat screen tv and broke the connection where the plug attaches to the TV. didn't want to deal with the hassle of best buy, and the time it would likely take to repair. decided to go old school and find a TV Repair shop. Looked up Freidman's on Google Maps as it was close to my house. Brought the TV in the morning around 11am. The experience was so refreshing. Actual customer service from a friendly person. Lo and behold, less than a half hour later I got a call that I could pick up the TV that afternoon by 2:30. It cost $25 bucks and I was on my way. TV works as good as new. I WASTED $ and time having 2 other companies come to my home only to tell me the fuse on my microwave was good. They both wanted to take it to S.F. ( to Friedman's) and be the "middle men" for a repair that only Friedman's has experience to fix. My biggest mistake was that I googled "Microwave repair, San Mateo County" and Friedmans did not come up. Well Friedmans in San Fran. on Clement Street is reasonable $ and the ONLY guys that know how to fix a high end microwave/convection oven worth saving. I guess most microwaves are inexpensive and not worth saving so I do not think many repairs guys out there know how to fix a microwave. We drove up from San Mateo based on all the good reviews and boy, were they right. The owner was obviously busy, but recognized the long drive we took to get to his shop, fit us in, told us to come back in a hour and it was fixed! He had the part in stock which is just amazing and now we have our microwave back. People who complain that he doesn't always pick up the phone or call back right away need to understand that he is extremely busy in what seemed to be a one-man shop. read more
