We love Friendly Thai!! They live up to their name, as we are always greeted quickly and welcomed in with a smile! The restaurant is always kept very clean and there's several different areas you can sit in, a back room if you prefer a quiet intimate meal or if you have a large group or the booths at the front. They have an extensive menu, tons to choose from and every dish we've ever had has been great! Portions are big enough to share and I find their prices very reasonable. We always get their Tom Kah soup with chicken which is so yummy and feels like a warm hug! It's my favourite thing to order. read more

My friends and I stopped in for lunch on a Monday around 12pm. We sat in a booth towards the back of the restaurant and the place quickly filled up. The young man that served our water and brought our menus was decidedly not friendly; seemed like a teenager that was told to work the summer by his mom. lol. However, the woman that took our orders and waited on us was very nice. My friend and I ordered the yellow curry with tofu, and my other friend ordered the basil tofu. The lunch special comes with a small side salad, veggie spring roll, and a chicken-based veggie soup, which we sent back (we're vegetarian/vegan), but is smelled good. Both dishes were flavorful. The yellow curry was mild, as yellow curry is wont to be, and had big chunks of potatoes and carrots. They have an extensive lunch menu and seemed to be able to substitute tofu for any of the meat choices. Overall, a winner! (Sorry, I forgot to take photos!) read more

Very tasty Thai food. We ordered Pad Thai, Chicken Skewers and Tom Yum Soup to share. Their portion size was not bad. Everything was very tasty. Ingredients were fresh. I really liked the chicken skewers. The sauce was tasty. What I really liked most was their vinegar cucumbers that came with the chicken skewers. wow that was super freshing. The Pad Thai was ok. It wasn't the most authentic. They made it to suit westerners taste buds using mostly local sauces and not with the traditional tamarind sauce. The Tom Yum Soup was delicious. It was nothing out of the ordinary. I liked how they used big prawns in the soup. Prices were reasonable and there are plenty of available parking at the mall. The food rates higher (4-5), it is really delicious! The ambiance is also attractive, in an otherwise unattractive mini-mall just above Lower Gibsons, site of the beloved Beachcombers CBC series. Dining in service was very professional, as the hostess/apparent owner and the young man who served us were very "Pleasant" indeed! So, what brings the rating down? The take out service, when the man who answered was very abrupt and even swore - a first in my many years' experience. (I would have given up then, but had made my family a promise.) So, my advice to you: if phoning for take out and an older male answers, either ask for the boss or HANG UP IMMEDIATELY. And to the owner/boss: please don't let your surly staff near the phone. Disclaimer we walked in 20 mins before they closed for lunch and the hostess said if we can finish by 2:30, so we sat down and ordered 2 lunch specials, pad se yew and basil basa. It comes with soup (made from chicken), spring roll and salad and rice (except for the noodles). The pad se yew were not made with thick rice noodles, rather it was not a tasty version of lo mein noodles. The fish was pretty good actually but the service was off putting hence the 2 stars. read more

We were staying overnight in Gibsons and wasn't sure where to go. Yelp reviews were very positive and so we decided to give it a try. So glad we did. Penn our server was so gracious and attentive. The food came fast and served hot. So good! We ordered the chicken wings, red Thai curry and ginger beef. Definitely will be back the next time we are in town. A must try!! read more

Best Thai food I've had in a long long time! My boyfriend and I visited the island from Vancouver Thanksgiving weekend. We were craving Asian cuisine and came across Friendly Thai. My boyfriend has been to Thailand and said the food was comparable. Covid measures were in place. Only 3 booths were available for dine in, servers wearing masks. They were very busy with take out. We ordered papaya salad, stuffed eggplant and yellow curry with beef. All were delicious. Favorite was stuffed eggplant - shrimp paste, eggplant and black bean sauce with mix peppers. Definitely recommend and would come back to the sunshine coast for this! read more

We had ordered takeaway from the Friendly Thai during the pandemic but I have to say I don't recall the dinner much. This time we ate at the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. It must be said that Gibsons doesn't offer a very wide choice, or numerous restaurants so we were glad to discovery this one. The restaurant itself is very...ummm....down market; clean, but on the dark side with tables and booths but giving off almost an old diner's air. As it happens I like that; it tells me they're not investing in decor. Service was very quick and very friendly. Beer choice was limited to two Thai choices and two domestic. Again, not a problem - we didn't really come for the beer. Wide menu choices, all the usual Thai favourites, but we simplified it with the "Dinner For Two" option ($48, I think); chicken skewer and egg roll appies, green curry (I asked to substitute for the red curry and they were happy to do it) pad thai and rice. All in abundance - we took some home. And a tapioca-like dessert (name escapes me). The food was good, basic Thai food and the service was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back. read more
