THAI LAKSA CURRY NOODLES - vegan so no chicken, just tofu
    Shannon L.

This place is new since we were here last year, and I saw that many options on the menu could be made vegan. I was intrigued! However, a reputable source who lives in Whistler said they had eaten several meals there that were not that great. I decided to chance it and order takeout. I got the Thai laksa curry noodles, made vegan by just removing the chicken. I clarified to make sure there was no egg in the noodles. I got 2 out of 5 star spicy. I also ordered the mango sticky rice for dessert, which is vegan by default. Had to call to place the order, and the first time I called it went to voicemail so I waited a few minutes and called back. Food was ready in 15 minutes, and it was still hot and honestly quite tasty. The laksa was well flavored and spiced, it wasn't bland but I'd probably get 3 stars next time. It's simple, noodles, sauce, onions, and the tofu. Tofu was cooked well, but it was a lot of noodles and the noodles didn't really hold the sauce well so sometimes a mouthful of noodles didn't have a ton of sauce/flavors. Mango sticky rice was very tasty. I would definitely get it again. I might get the laksa again, but I'd like to try more things and see how they are.

Purple Panda is a nice, new addition to Whistler's selection of restaurants for those looking for something a bit more unique - it's one of the few (if not only) fusion, Asian restaurants in town. Located in the Upper Village, it's a bit of a hidden gem. The restaurant is small and doesn't have a lot of seating inside, but don't let that deter you from visiting - the food and service was spectacular. I got the Royal duck curry and it was full of flavour. The staff warned us that the food is quite spicy, so if your tolerance for spicy food is low, I'd suggest getting something on the very low end of the spicy scale.

    Small portion

Tiniest portion I've ever seen for 26 dollars. I am outraged to be honest. We ordered take out and the sir that greeted us would not let us sit inside at a empty bar while our food was being made the hospitality was not good and I am disappointed with this food portion for the price I paid. I could you not there's 5 pieces of orange chicken in here and for 26 dollars. It taste like chicken nuggets that they just put some orange chicken sauce on it. I will never be eating here again to say the least

Restaurant was empty but did not accommodate our group of 12. They saw we have 5 kids in our group. They're not accommodating.

Hands down the best food we had in Whistler. We wish we would have eaten there sooner so we could go again.

You know I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my meal at Mekong. Firstly,…read morethey were super accommodating with us adding to our reservation at the last minute. Asian food in Whistler isn't always the best, but Mekong did a great job serving authentic and elevated Thai food. I later learned that Mekong is of the same family of Vancouver's Maenam and Sainam - explains the top notch quality. However, outside of the shoulder season Prix fixe menus, the pricing is on the higher side of things. No surprises for Whistler. I don't know if I'd come back if not for the special menu. Cocktails were decent but were definitely weaker. Mochi donut for dessert was the only negative note, and the only thing we didn't finish on the menu.

Menu is pretty small, and have a selection of appetizers, sides (starch) and mains. For appetizers we tried scallops, fried chicken wings, and roti. All three were pretty good. The raw scallops had a nice seasoning. The roti serving is small and pre-ripped for you, but had the flakey slightly burnt skin and buttery softness on the inside, and the curry dipping sauce was very good. The chicken wings had a pretty unique zesty and slightly sour seasoning, and had a nice crispy skin. For mains, I got the cumin lamb ribs which were delicious. Heavily seasoned with cumin and spices, and the ribs were tender and easy to chew. Would go well with some rice. Only item I didn't like from the table was the pad thai (vegetarian with tofu) which was way too sweet. Tasted like it was honey glazed and had the sweet aftertaste which was weird. Prices are not cheap of course given it's a resort village. 4 of us ate $300 worth of food.

They were out of a few things - no more oatmeal and only one serving of matcha left when we all wanted matcha, but the alternatives that we went with were still appealing, so it wasn't a big deal. The one matcha went to my mom, and it seemed like she got the scraps of it because it looked and tasted pretty watery. I got a chai latte which was pretty good but a little grainy. The food on the other hand was really good. I got the buckwheat pancakes and tried some of the smoothie bowl. The pancakes were hearty and fluffy, topped with a delicious berry chia jam and cashew cream. The plate came with 3 small-ish pancakes which was a satisfying portion that wasn't too much. We were also asked if we wanted maple syrup with the pancakes, but I ended up not needing to add any because the jam and cream were enough. Maple syrup is $2 for a small cup so I would recommend skipping it unless you really want something sweeter. The jam and cream are just modestly sweet which was perfect for me. The blueberry smoothie bowl was also delicious and came with lots of toppings - their granola had a delightful texture. It was a bit of a wait for food, so ordering the breakfast plates is probably not the best option if you're in a hurry, but they have ready-to-eat stuff available if you do want something quick, and the drinks didn't take long. I would be interested in coming back to try more of the food menu if I were in Whistler again.
