Tom kha soup and stuffed wings!
    Kam S.

Love this family style place! Top 3 Thai restaurants I've tried around the world. (Minus Thailand that will be next year) this is the best one in Vancouver hands down! I've had almost everything on the menu, never had anything I didn't like. My pro tips. Stuffed chicken wings, pad Thai, pineapple fried rice, tom kha soup. They kill it every time. Reservations are a must on weekends. Or stroll in on a weekday and there isn't long waits.

Sawasdee Thai restaurant is a Thai restaurant iat Main st VancpuverThe moment they opened at 5pm, the restaurant got filled up. We ordered quite a lot of food for 6, phad thai, chicken wings, papaya salad, curry. Everything just tasted great. Good size portions. Service quick. Food is served warm straight from kitchen. People serving are happy people, know their menu. They recommend food and drink items. Place is pretty. Simple Thai decorations . Very cute . Will always try to eat here each time we. Is it Vancouver

Food here is amazing. The tastes of each dish---Shrimp Pad Thai, Fried Tofu, Chicken Coconut Curry, Chicken Satay, Papaya Salad, Stuffed Chicken Wings, Crying Tiger----all Thai standard classics---are flavorful and authentic,. They are also presented artistically and artfully. Service is quick, efficient and friendly. When we pointed out a faux pas, no nuts in the papaya salad---they immediately made us a new one. This place is super busy and very popular---so reservations are a must. It was my wife's birthday. They gave us a postcard with a birthday greeting in the back of the card. I think that was a nice, added special touch. We had a group of 6 and the room is loud. Tables are well spaced and the room is sufficiently lit. Decor is simple, but the attraction here is mainly the food.

Made a reservation and waited about 15 minutes to be seated after arrival. The grilled squid was probably one of the best Thai dishes I've ever had, and the yellow curry and pad Thai noodles (tamarind) were also both outstanding--high quality ingredients, expertly cooked. Service was attentive and the bustling ambiance is cheerful but not overwhelming. This will definitely be on the list for any future Vancouver visits!

Went with a group of friends and decided to order a few items to share family style. I was undecided on the pad thai or curry and was really glad I got to try both as the pad thai was underwhelming. It lacked flavor, could have had more shrimp, and I was happy I didn't end up getting this 1 dish on my own. We also got the red and green curry, the papaya salad and stuffed chicken wings. I would recommend the stuffed chicken wings and their curries. We shared mango sticky rice and my Thai iced tea was good. The place was surprisingly busy for 5pm on a weekend. The environment is comfortable and the place looked clean.

It was jam packed with just 2 tables open because it is an hour to closing. We really like the fish. The sauce is perfectly done.

I had a nice, relaxed meal here. We started with Thai iced tea, which was refreshing and not overly sweet. It paired well with the food and felt like a proper Thai touch. The green curry was comforting and aromatic, with a creamy coconut base and fresh herbs. The chicken was tender, and the flavors were gentle rather than overly spicy, making it easy to enjoy. The papaya salad was fresh and crunchy, with a good balance of sour, sweet, and savory notes. It wasn't too aggressive, which I appreciated, and the peanuts added a nice texture. Overall, the food felt clean and well prepared, the atmosphere was casual and welcoming, and service was friendly. A solid spot for a satisfying Thai meal at Sawasdee Thai Restaurant

Food don't disappoint. Portions are generous, prices are fair, but the service is lacking a bit. I headed to the front desk to ask for water, beer and utensils for our table. As we already waited over six minutes to have someone serviced us, and since we're with visitors, they mentioned that service was slow and since it's summer time, we're all wanting cold water before hot meals arrived. There are many staff serving other patrons. Perhaps we have lots of questions about spice level and I wanted to ensure our guests are happy with their food.

Haven't been here in a while because it's always busy and booked up! The quality of food is still delicious and amazing. My personal favourite is always the Pad Thai because they make it so well. We ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai, duck curry, Sawasdee fried rice, meat platter, tofu and beans, dumplings, and the Thai Milk Tea. We went at a later dinner time so it wasn't as loud and that we could hear each other talk. Ambiance was very warm and homey feeling. Staff were very nice and service was quick!

Very good roasted duck curry, cying tiger beef, padthai was just ok. I think with the price tag, the portion is appropriately large. Highly recommend booking this place first though

I came as a big group and I'm glad we came shortly after opening because it soon became packed! The dishes were delicious and I would definitely come back to try their other items on the menu! I tried the Thai green curry and drunken noodles as well as the Thai iced tea on their lunch menu. My favourite was the Thai iced tea, I love a sweet treat and this definitely hit the spot. It was fragrant and sweet and made perfectly. I liked the toppings in the drunken noodles and noodle texture. I liked the green curry a lot and I found it so fragrant and flavourful. Everything was solid but nothing particularity stood out to me as extra delicious My biggest takeaway from this was the Thai mint candy! It tastes so good, if u know where I can buy them please let me now!!!

The service was very attentive and friendly. We ordered the following: Tom Kha - I'm not even a soup person but loved sharing the soup. The got the small size but the portion was still big enough for two people. Pad thai- this is usually my go to dish at any thai restaurant and it did not disappoint. I got the tamarind sauce and it wasn't too sweet. With level 3 spice it had just enough kick to make the dish come alive. Cashew nut stir fry - surprisingly delicious. I wish the veggies were more soft and less crunchy but I loved the taste Green curry - this was a bit of a disappointment as the dish was a little bland for me. I'd love to come back and try the red curry or panang.

Downside was the calamari, the pieces are quite big which make it not as crispy as it would be. Our favorite was the salmon penang curry. the coconut flavor of the curry together with the sweetness make it a very well balanced item. it went very well with the jasmine rice. Michelin starred quality in their service by how they explained the menu, brought out the food, came back around to refill waters. Just top notch service and elegantly so. The food was good but not of value. Their lunch set was a good introductory to what they offer. I enjoyed the food for its flavours and presentation but I thought that it was a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, fresh and definitely elevated, but it was $50 for 10pcs of sushi, 2 appetizer sized samples of their appetizer or entree dishes, and miso soup (which we did not get and didn't realize till much later in the day). If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.

My partner really wanted to try their Boat Noodle for a while now so we were quite excited to try that dish. The waiter was nice and recommended a couple dishes for us. Som Tum (Papaya Salad) 3/5 The texture was nice and it tasted refreshing but it is QUITE spicy. I appreciate the authentic Thai spice level but it was too spicy for us. I liked the sourness and I know this rating is a very personal rating based on our spice tolerance. Roti with Curry Sauce 3.75/5 Nice, flaky roti that wasn't too oily. I wish there was a little more sauce. Pad See Ew with Crab Meat 4/5 Great flavor. There was a decent number of clumped up noodle but the portion was great. Good amount of crab as well. Boat Noodle Soup 4.25/5 This was the best boat noodle we had so far. Flavorful broth with generous portion of various meats. There could be an option to get more noodles but my partner got this and she was satisfied with the amount since there were good chunks of meat. Good heat that creeps up. Roselle Drink 3.75-4.5/5 Great compliment to the dishes as it lightened and refreshed our pallette. Slightly sour. It tasted better with the food than by itself. Thai Milk Tea 3.5/5 Good enough. Wasn't the best but wasn't bad. Rainbow Sweet Sticky Rice 4.25/5 We were surprised it came in a cup and that it was soup-ier than we imagined. I was hoping that they had mango sticky rice but we thoroughly enjoyed the coconut I think it's also important to keep in mind that this is a relatively fast paced restaurant. As usual, I'm late to the party. I've heard about Phnom Penh…read moreand its famous chicken wings ever since I moved to Vancouver, nine-ish years ago. My fellow Yelpers raved about this place when I first moved here, and my kid came here with her school pals 5-6 years ago and also raved about the wings. It's been on my list to come here forever - and last night, finally, I did. It did not disappoint. My kid warned me, there'll probably be a line up waiting to get in (they don't take reservations here. I checked), so we decided to go at an off-time and get an early dinner, around 5pm on Friday. We walked there and, miracle of miracle, there was no line and we got seated right away. (Granted, we got the last vacant table in the place, and when we left after our meal, there already was a line of people waiting to get in). Food-wise...wow. I am NOT one for adventurous eating, so there were dishes on the menu I couldn't comfortably order (I wish I could, but hey, I'm better now than I used to be!). Still, there was lots for me to choose from. And first and foremost, I HAD to try the famous chicken wings. And I can honestly say, they were the best I've ever had: SO SO crunchy and crispy on the outside, and hot and moist on the inside. OMG so so so good. I can't speak highly enough of these! My kid ordered the butter beef. It was tasty and soft ("like butta!"), and the marinade was lovely, but personally, I couldn't get over the...rawness and redness of the meat and juice (which looked like blood to me). For fellow non-adventurous eaters out there, this might not be for you, despite how flavorful it tasted. It was just hard for me to get over how it looked. (I know I'm in a minority here. This dish is one of their most popular and asked-for dishes). We had the garlic dry spare ribs. I love spareribs. These were delicious but a tad too salty and greasy. I brought most of them home and had them today for lunch. I gotta say, they were so much better for me today: less salty, and I blotted off the excess grease. Delicious! My kid ordered a "small" sweet and sour soup with prawns, and wow, it came in a huge black cauldren. I can't imagine ordering a large size. Anyhow, this soup was a stand-out soup - especially for my kid who said she had dreams about it all night (lol)! So complex in flavors - spicy, sweet, savory, chock full of prawns and sprouts and lotus shoots and pineapple chunks and and other delicious stuff.... For me, it was a wee tad too spicy, but wow, even I thought, this is a special soup. So delicious and warming. 10/10. Our servers were prompt and impressively able to efficiently tend to a full house of diners. They got it all down to a science here. One issue of note: my kid had to use the washroom at one point and she left for a very extended period of time. I actually thought at one point that something had happened to her or she was ill, she was gone so long (VERY unlike her). When she returned, she told me it was "quite a hike", around the back of the restaurant and up a flight of stairs, too. I only make note of this in case anyone has mobility issues, know that the bathroom will be difficult (or impossible) for you to access.

There is always a wait here but their waitlist goes by fast. The service is nice.
