Came in for a quick lunch at Bai Bua Thai and wow I did not know that Vancouver had so much delicious Thai food. The restaurant is located on a busy street and is unassuming/easy to miss so I'm glad my boyfriend pointed it out for us to try with some friends. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share. They all arrived relatively quickly and my favourites were the pad thai and the khao soi. The pad thai was fragrant and on the sweeter side which I like. I also liked the fresh raw bean sprouts on the side. The khao soi was curry noodles with tender beef and crispy egg noodles. The curry was very flavourful with a hint of heat and sweetness. This was also my first time trying curry noodles at a Thai restaurant. The green curry was filled with bamboo shoots, peppers, and a good amount of chicken. The flavour from the bamboo shoots really comes through as well. For the crab fried rice, it came with a spicy sauce and pickled vegetables. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough to go around so I didn't get a chance to get a good taste of it with the rice. However, I scooped some curry sauce from the khao soi onto the crab friend rice and it was delicious! Finally, we tried the mango sticky rice and my goodness, it was so pretty! We met friends for lunch, we decided to try Bai Bua... Decor was nice, place was clean & staff were friendly. Paid street parking available. We came early at 11.30am and there were people waiting in line! Food was good, they have a wide choice of daily lunch special. Their lunch special comes with 3 crispy fried wanton with sweet Thai chilli sauce- Yum! I'm lost for words.. I went to this restaurant 3 days ago and I'm still thinking about their food. I want to say it's hands down the best Thai food I have ever had!!! They have been around for 9yrs or more and is a small family-run restaurant. They have a small space, I would say no bigger than a group of 6. I would highly recommend going here especially during the summer. For drinks, we got their fresh coconut (coconut water in the actual shell with fresh meat inside) soooo refreshing and perfect for the summer. We also got their thai iced coffee and their thai iced tea with lemon (it was my first time having it with lemon tea instead of milk and it was AMAZING). For food - we got their deep-fried tofu, sooo crispy on the outside and the sauce it came with was the best. Would recommend having their prig pao fried rice and pad kee mao noodles. The server asked her for our spice level and we said between medium and spicy, they nailed it! It was the perfect spice level for us. Delicious Thai food! Met the family for a birthday lunch, and everything went well, from making the reservations to a great lunch! The food was delicious - amazing pad Thai and delicious curries. Service was great- and I forgot to ask if I could bring my own cake, but I did and they were really cool about it. Cute place, but not fancy, so casual dress and kids are fine! Food was just as good as always on this visit. Slightly lower rating this time though because of a hiccup involving the side dish that accompanied the lunch special I ordered. I don't eat meat and in the past when I ordered my vegetarian lunch special, it came with some fried tofu. This time, even though I did include the use of the word "vegetarian" when I ordered my Pad See Ew lunch special, my dish came with several pieces of deep fried dumpling. I was so caught up in conversation with friends at my table that I didn't really think much of this at first. I popped one into my mouth, chewed and swallowed it, and then immediately afterwards I glanced at the remaining two and suddenly realized..."Hey, are these things vegetarian? I have a feeling I might have just accidentally eaten meat!" Sure enough, when I asked the server about it, he confirmed that the dumplings had meat in them. He apologized and brought out some fried tofu for me. Aside from this hiccup involving the vegetarian side dish, food and drinks were awesome. Prad prig pao seafood - nice large chunks of grilled battered fish, with calamari rings, prawns, red peppers slices, and onions. Everything was covered in a sweet chili sauce. Could've been spicier, but very delicious. Special mention. Plain rice - not cheap, but not like there's a choice. The dishes above do not include rice. This is how they get you. Knock 0.5 stars off for value. The spiciness here comes in 3 levels. However, there is also a 4th "special hot" available upon request, as mentioned by the server. I was unable to communicate that this was what I wanted, so I ended up with "normal hot". The server did make things up by giving a small dish of red cut chili. Honestly I would recommend doing this for the authentic experience. "Normal hot" just doesn't cut it in my books. The food quality here is very good I must say. My younger brother had recommended this place for me to try so i ended up booking a 1 month advance mother's day dinner here to enjoy with our entire family. I can honestly say it did not disappoint. The menu had a large variety, oh and you can definitely appreciate aesthetically pleasing pictures at the same time too. Each item was described to the very T and that's perfect for anyone who has food restrictions or allergies etc. The prices were pretty reasonable too. The pork and chicken dishes were not dry at all. Tastes good in curry and also as a fried dish on its own. The fried rice was large and generous in portion, nieces loved the boat noodles. The soup is a pretty good size for 1 person as a full meal if you want otherwise it's good to share and have a few spoons each. As you can tell from the pictures we all went pretty wild with ordering .. wanted to try everything. It's honestly too hard to even just choose 1 favourite item so can i say all of the above? Tasty food but the wait is ridiculously long and it's pretty expensive for the portions you get. They held some tables empty for reservations but the amount of time we waited, we could have totally taken the table, finished eating and they would still be able to flip the table. I was craving pad Thai and saw that this place had good reviews along with a tofu version so decided to give it a go and ordered delivery! In my order notes I specified that I wanted it mild but extra sauce if possible. Once I got it, it immediately smelled off to me but I decided to give it a go anyways and was really disappointed - it tasted extremely bland and the tofu had an awful taste and texture which left me disappointed. I came here after seeing plenty of influencer posts on my feed, but did not regret! I was there during a slightly busy Sunday lunch hour, but fortunately was seated immediately. The staff were quick and attentive. I ordered chicken green curry (lunch special), thai iced tea, and their beautiful mango sticky rice. The lunch special came in an adequate portion - enough for one serving. There were no options for the spiciness, so I assume the one given to me was regular. There was a hint of spiciness, but enough to enjoy the creaminess of the green curry. Perfect balance, IMO. The dish came with rice already and three pieces of crispy wonton. I love the variety of texture the wontons brought it. It was something to break the thickness of the curry and rice. The thai iced tea was was a good accompaniment to the main entree. It offered some sweetness and the usual notes thai tea has. The mango sticky rice was a feast to the eyes as it was for the tummy. With the sticky and chewy texture from the rice, mixed with the sweetness from the mango, and some creaminess from the sauce, it made for a perfect dessert piece! I absolutely love this place! Initially I was actually drawn to this restaurant by their mango and sticky rice dessert, but their menu did not disappoint. We started off with their spring rolls, which they did not use regular spring roll wrappers, they used a different type of wrappers that was crispy and delicate and had a satisfying crunch. We also had a few skewers of chicken satay. The meat was still tender and juicy. For our mains we shared a Chicken red curry, pad Thai, and garlic pork. The curry was flavourful and the fresh basil had a nice kick to it. Of course you can't pass on the quintessential pad Thai, which was done very well and I can taste a hint of sour tamarind. Lastly the garlic pork was nice and flavourful with a bite. Lastly for the star of the show, the mango sticky rice. I mean look at it! It looked exactly like the picture on the menu. Absolutely beautiful and I swear made it tastier. There's quite a lot of seating and tables in the restaurant, but one draw back is it's a middle unit so the only light you get are from the windows in the front. Pickings are slim on East Hastings when you want late(ish) night eats. Luckily, Bai Bua Thai Cuisine was open so we gave them a try. They're located across the street from Tentatsu and Thailicious. We dropped in on a Friday evening (around 8:35pm). They were closing up early but we called ahead and were told we could dine in if we ate quickly. They ask what spice level you want; we went with medium. Would get hot next time as medium was closer to mild. The menu consists of appetizers, grilled, soup, salad, seafood, curry, fried rice, stir fried, noodles, lunch specials and sweets. - Thai ice tea ($4.50) - J subbed for coconut milk ($1.00 extra). He was pleased with his drink. - Steamed rice ($3.00 small) - bowl was a good amount to go with the curry dish. - Chicken wings (#6) ($8.90 for 8) - these came out hot and crispy. Side of sweet chili sauce wasn't too sweet. Didn't really need it as the wings were good on it's own. - Green curry (#40) ($13.90) - could have used way more heat/spice in this dish but the curry was well balanced. Decent mix of vegetables and the pork was tasty. - Sukho Thai noodle soup (#85) ($13.90) - everyone enjoyed the broth as it had a good kick. More of a light, lemongrass flavour. Noodles clumped together slightly. - Prig pao fried rice (#72) ($13.90) - best dish of the night. The chili jam added a faint sweetness to the dish and good wok hei to the rice. I was here for lunch on May31st(Sunday) and it wasn't our first choice. We were hoping to go to Laksa King it was closed. Thank God, Bai Bua was open for dining in. We ordered L2 Penang Curry Chicken ($10.90) and L16 Sukothai Noodle ($11.90) the portion was on the smaller side, but noodles were good portions for the price. Lunch special came with orange wedges and shrimp crackers. Shrimp crackers seemed like it was house made. Food wise, Penang Curry was pretty good. It tasted so delicious and authentic. Jasmine rice was pretty good too. Sukothai Noodle was made medium spicy, but tasted bit strong for me. So strong I could smell fish sauce and that peculiar Thai spice it was salty. I felt kind of thirsty after finishing my meal. Sukothai noodle was good and also salty for me. I've never tried this from Bangkok or Pattaya before and maybe I was new to this. We noticed they had noodle soups and the Curry Noodle soup peaked our interest. The pad-kee-mao was ok and could've done better with flavor. If you like spicy, then you can go with their spiciest level as we didn't really find it that spicy. The show stealer was the Curry noodle soup! It was so rich and delicious! The coconut taste was subtle and the spices really came through. The noodles were perfect and the veggies were fresh, good quantity not too much not too less. Came here for takeout on a weekend. Once they opened at 11:30 there were already people sitting inside. I ordered the food and was told the wait would be around 15-20 minutes. Came back after 20 minutes and the food was ready just on time. I ordered the Thai fried rice, lunch special Penang curry with rice, Thai fried rice, Khao Soi noodles and crab shrimp rolls. The portions may not look very big but it was enough to feed 4 people and have leftovers. The crab shrimp rolls were the star of the show. The inside was creamy and although I couldn't taste much crab and shrimp it was delicious. The outside was nice and crispy and different from your usually fried rolls. I would definitely order these again. The Thai fried rice had a nice basil fragrance to it and was perfectly seasoned. They were very generous with the amount of meat. The Khao Soi didn't come together like shown in my photo. The noodles and soup were given in separate containers which I appreciate. The noodles didn't get soggy on the drive back because of this. The noodles were silky smooth. The soup itself was quite nice and reminded me of the Penang curry but the Penang curry had more lemongrass flavour to it. If I had to order again I would either order the Penang curry or the Khao Soi as they are quite similar except with different carbs. Overall, I really enjoyed the food I got. One of the best thai places I've been to!! Definitely try the Khao Soi, a noodle dish most known in the northern Thailand region and their BBQ marinated chicken dish. We also had the crispy chicken skins which were a special during summer. Starting off with the Khao Soi, it was such a nice subtle blend of ingredients and herbs. Ranging from being a lil milky, coconutty and a bit sweet, but not overbearing on the rest of the dish. It uses a northern Thailand style curry sauce which is listed as spicy, but even someone like me with a low spice tolerance didn't believe It was spicy at all. I feel that it is very representative of thai flavours and as a dish as a whole. Next we had the BBQ marinated chicken dish. This was actually soo good. Surprising since we had expected less and assumed it was going to be a regular chicken side. In reality, the BBQ chicken dish was cooked very nice and tender and it came with a really good sauce. There was this spicy chili thai sauce which was a little sweet, savory and had a bit of kick to it because it had a little bit vinegar or fish sauce smell to ti. Last on the checklist is the crispy chicken skin Nothing too special, but worth a mention. It's currently a summer special and is served with this sweeter chili thai sauce,. Lots of stuff can be made vegan, and they often double-check with the chef to ensure. We ordered the Yellow Curry with Tofu ($13.95 plus tax), Pad Pak Ruam ($12.95 plus tax), and Pad See Ew ($13.95 plus tax), all vegan of course. We requested that the Yellow Curry be made extra spicy, yet it wasn't the least bit spicy. It was just potato and tofu, with a few slices of onion. But the flavour of the sauce was very rich and tasty. Good, but not amazing. 4/5. The Pad Pak Ruam we requested without the fish sauce. Nice array of greens and other veggies, and a tasty sauce to accompany it. Again, good but not amazing. 4/5 The Pad See Ew was quite tasty, with nicely texture flat noodles, lots of greens, a few other veggies, and some tofu. Nicely spiced, but once again, nothing overly special. The portions were not all that generous. You can better value for money, and more complex flavours at other Thai places in town (e.g., Sawasdee, Wara Thai), so I'm not sure how often I'll return. I came here after seeing amazing reviews and pictures and thoroughly enjoyed my lunch visit! My family ordered a chicken wings, pad thai, curry noodle soup and thai fried rice. The pad thai was my favourite even though it was a little oily, the flavours were perfect! Noodles were cooked well but not mushy with a nice mix of bean sprouts, tofu, egg and prawn. My dad absolutely adored the curry chicken noodle soup and for good reason! Although too heavy for me, the coconut forward sauce was delicious with just a hint of spice. The egg noodles held on to the sauce and the ample chicken made for a great protein addition. Pad Thai Prawn (3/5) - $14.90 Taste: This dish is nothing special, but it is good - a bit of a sweet taste from the tamarind sauce and not too flavourful, but not too bland either. This seemingly small restaurant can hold 40 seat comfortably in its relatively narrow space. But then many on that Hastings strip are long and narrow, allowing more establishments, especially indies, to co-exist. The aroma of Thai spice was what started my crave for a good old Thai curry. Red, yellow, or green!?!?! I.dont know. They're all good in their own way. So I asked the waiter what his favorite is and he says green. Well, green it is! Went for beef and it was fine, although in hindsight, pork or chicken usually give it a more tender bite. (Places where the beef is soft may have added baking soda to tenderize the meat). There's something about Thai curry that makes me eat more Jasmine rice. Half way though the curry and I already finished my rice. But being lunch, I didn't want to stuff myself. This is by far the best Thai restaurant in Vancouver. Over the years we have had many dishes, and everything is absolutely delicious. Recommend the Khao Soi, all the curries and the Pad See Ew. But seriously everything is good. The lunch special is very well priced, and service and ambience is always great. Highly recommend! read more

This is one of those places where everyone should try. This was an accidental find as one day we were looking to eat Pho just up the street but they were closed...you know what they say, everything happens for a reason. Lucky the pho restaurant was closed as this has been a go to for everytime Thai food is craved Went for lunch and I had my usual Tom Yum Noodle soup with tofu extra spicy...did not disappoint again. Looking at the bowl, it doesn't look much but there is enough food to put you to sleep after (in a good way). Had the option of chicken, beef or tofu and I selected the tofu. There was bean sprouts, different types of veggies and a good portion of noodles. The soup was spicy, rich and flavorful, but a bit thicker than the usual Tom Yum. Its that good that I don't order anything else. Lol We shared Crab and Shrimp rolls, there were 6... I think...couldn't count because we devoured them. Crunchy, flaky, tasty...just wished the crab and shrimp were more pronounced. Was good still We also had a couple of lunch special (sorry forgot what was order, but have pictures). I was told it was good and tasty...I wanted to try but was observing safety practices. These lunch specials came with a little Appy dish of 2 triangles of watermelon and crispy chips, but they weren't chips..reminded my of chicharon, but not that either..flavorful and crunchy. Obviously I didn't get to sample some of the dishes and leaving vague descriptions..sorry...just go try it for yourself, it's well worth the drive wherever you are coming from. read more

Not bad! Several of us came here based on someone's previous visit. Overall, no major complaints. The Pad Thai noodles were on the mushy side, more like a blob of noodles. The spring rolls were good, not greasy and served temperature hot. The pineapple fried rice was interesting in that there were small raisins in it. The yellow chicken curry was delish. Service was good. Place felt safe and clean. There's takeout. We wanted to pay cash but they politely asked for debit or credit card. read more

Bai Bau Thai is located on Hasting Street and Nanaimo Street. I went there with my girlfriend for dinner. We walked in around 5ish, we were the first table customer there. It seemed like they're not ready to serve dinner yet. We waited over 5 mins for menu and hot water. Am I too demanding? But, we're the only customer in the restaurant. Food and service are basic. I don't hv high expectation of any East side restaurants anyway. We ordered Tom yum goong soup, it's quite mediocre and didn't find any galangal in the soup. We had chicken satay, it's dry n chewy. Great food at a good price. The portions are quite large for what you're paying. I've been here a couple times now and have been happy with my food and service. The servers are attentive and friendly. The food is tasty. This time around I had the khao soi gai, which is a curry based soup with egg noodles and chicken. I liked how the egg noodles were a bit of a wider thickness to grab onto more of the curry sauce. It also came with lime, pickled veggies, and some raw red onion in a side dish. The pickled veggies were a good break from the rich soup. The soup had good flavour and this is a dish I would probably come back for. My friend had their chili jam fried rice. He got it with medium spiciness. I tried a small spoonful and you could definitely feel the heat. Overall, this is a great place for some Thai food.
