Do not go here! Sunday at 5pm we were told to "get the f* out". Made a reservation ahead of time for early Sunday Funday date night. Was having a great time, right in the middle of our meal, eating waiting on more food, the owner comes over and wants us to pick up all all our food and move to a table with strangers so he could seat someone else. We politely said, we're in the middle of eating and waiting on more food so we did not want to move. He IMMEDIATELY just says ... get the f*u k out. In under 60 seconds. He said move or get out. Those were our two options. Is was the most bizarre unsettling experience. As a woman to have a strange man yell that I'm my face just for wanting to keep the table he sat us at. After a great party we had for my sisters birthday we went to our normal spot friendlys been going here for years. we were all dressed up so I'm not sure what changed in their policy. we approached the bar and out of no where a man comes up and asks for our ids. okay cool no problem you have that right, as his checking is someone asked the guy why were we being carded in the first place being we have never been carded before and we come here a lot. it took a second person to come up and his explanation was because of a previous incident. yet no one was carded as they entered. We order drinks at the bar and it comes up to $70 and we questioned the price. it's never been that high. as we declined services being we felt we were treated unfairly. The bartender stated we had to pay for the liquor that was already poured, excuse me! No we will not. She yelled "good don't come back" oh we will and I will keep reporting your behavior to customers. It shows whoever works there now doesn't want black locals in this place. please think again before coming here. this was on 27th at around maybe 11pm. If you're looking for a questionable bar with smoking inside and a ton of gambling, no music and horrible drink choices then the upstairs is for you. Our first time going and it was not a good experience. We ended up in the upstairs part of this building because there really wasn't great signage of where to go for anything. We only came here to try Blake's Pub Grub and it was all disappointing. The bartender didn't know what an old fashion was or what was in it, so we ordered a Blue Moon and we were given a Bloody Mary. They don't have a beer list or a list of anything so you just have to guess what they have, which is AB products but cans only. They have no taps upstairs and very limited liquor. Overall, the place wasn't fun and very uncomfortable feeling. I do have to say that there might be a downstairs level but I have which door that is or how to get there and I don't think the hassle of finding out would really be worth it. read more

This is a bar plain and simple. The food is good. The owner is there to accommodate in any way he can. This is NOT a fancy place. Period. Some of these reviews are ridiculous, as if the girls doing most of the complaining expected this to be the Ritz. It's not the Ritz. It's a bar in Lemay. Cheap beer, friendly Bartenders, no frills. It's a great place to go to unwind. It's NOT a place to you should expect Black Tie and pampering. Thank God. Friendly's is on every list of the best sports bars in St. Louis, deservedly. Having been going there for years, I can say it is the best dive sports bar in the city. It has everything you want from your neighborhood sports bar: tons of TVs, remarkably cheap drinks, food that goes beyond basic bar offerings (they have some great sandwiches, and St. Louis-style pizza), and all the bar games (skeeball, washers, Golden Tee, shufflepuck, etc). There is a bar indoors and outdoors on their large patio out back. Keep in mind it is a cash-only establishment (ATM on premises, of course). Friendly's is no-frills, just fun. My first visit to Friendly's wasn't so friendly. Came on a Friday night, which happened to be a Blues game night. No biggie, found parking and figured we'd have to wait a bit for a table. Found the dining room and someone told us a table was about to clear up, they'd clean it and it be ours. Be quick on your toes, even if you're told that, because people will jump for whatever they can find. Got seated and it took at least 30 min for someone to finally realize we hadn't gotten any menus, drinks, etc. Finally got that rolling and ordered our food. Because we were there during a Blues game, we got to have the "home team" specials which include burgers, brats and nachos for a mere $1.80. We got some nachos, finally got our drinks and ordered the rest of our food (chicken for 2 of us and burgers for the rest. My husband was not impressed with his burger and all our fries were not cooked right. However we couldn't say anything because we never had a waitress as much as one would expect in a busy establishment like this. I believe we ended up seeing only 2 people working that night. Had to talk with the waitress about our bill, especially with the home town specials she was charging us full price for. Turns out it was her first night and she told us she hadn't had training. I'm disappointed in hearing that, especially for them letting her loose on a busy night for her first night. I'm hoping now that its been open awhile that if/when we do return, we'll have a much better experience. I love its location and it would be great for it to be a return place for us. read more

Avoid. I rarely leave a one star review, but this place was gross. 1. Downstairs and upstairs reeked of cigarette smoke. We asked our server if smoking was allowed inside, and she said it was from the outside smokers. That was just hard to believe; the smell was super strong and pungent. 2. I ordered a glass of wine; it clearly had gone bad, and the glass was dirty. 3. While we were there, we saw two different gentlemen fall down from being extremely drunk. They were just helped back up, and not asked to leave. 4. Food was ok, pretty standard bar food. But afterwards, I was up all night with extreme nausea. 5. The decor is really sad. It's like they bought 10 gallons of green paint, slapped it on everything, and just gave up. Reminded me of a college basement, complete with Christmas lights. We went there for the first time on Saturday night and to say it was a disappointment would be a huge understatement. We had seen a Facebook post featuring their fried chicken dinner and it look delicious. When we walked in there was and intense odor from all of the smokers. Standing in the doorway for several minutes no one acknowledged us so we sat down. 15 minutes later no one had stopped by the table so we got up and left. The place also had a lack of cleanliness. It was not a total loss because after we left we went down Lemay Ferry to a place called Fergie's restaurant and had one of the best fried chicken meals I've ever enjoyed. A no frills standard sports bar, with good food at good prices and good service. The burgers are good, the fried chicken is good and I also had the Wednesday special of chicken fried steak, which was also good. If you go during St. Louis Sports team game (and the games are on TV), you can get their "Home Team" specials, which includes burgers, brats and nachos (ballpark style) for $1.80. Now, this isn't the same burger they have on the menu, but a smaller thinner patty, but for the price, it's pretty good; especially if you bring your kids to watch the game with you. They have a game room upstairs and smoking is out side, so there is no smell of smoke inside the bar. They have a half dozen beers on tap, with some good local microbrews. read more

When my boyfriend, his mother and I decided to come here we had no idea that their "bar" did not open until 4 p.m. that being said, when we noticed and went to leave someone walked out and said that even though the bar was closed, they had a restaurant with a full bar that could serve us. Wow! I was charmed that the owner even noticed us walking away. It's 3 p.m.on a Thursday, so I understand why the bar isn't open but when you work weird schedules like we do, you look for nice places to go during the day. The bartender was sweet and accomodating. There were a ton of games to play upstairs (where they let us go, even though the bar was closed) and the drinks were reasonable. We didn't eat here today but there were a lot of specials to try. This is a a much more family oriented Friendly's then the one in the city...a sports bar that you can take the kids with you. Have been twice since it first opened and the second time had 2 other couples meet me there with their children...service was not way fast but adequate and the waitress kept our beer glasses full. We went in for ladies night after swimming. The service was awesome. Thanks Tracy. The food was good. I got the grilled cheese and tomato. The tomato was not soggy, which is a plus. Thought we'd try some places around STL so took a chance and bought a Groupon deal. It is 25 miles from our home. We went there because we were out shopping and drove another 15 miles to try it. Went on a Tuesday around 3 pm. Woman behind the bar looked at us like we were nuts. Said they don't serve food on Monday or Tuesday! She said come back tomorrow. Had to pick up an order at a store the next day so we thought we'd try again. Got there at 2 pm on Wednesday. Woman behind bar told us that the kitchen closes at 2 pm. We asked why we weren't told that the day before. Again she looked at us like we were insane. That's two 50 mile round trips and still haven't been able to redeem my Groupon. Probably won't be back there again. No restrictions are listed on their website or on the Groupon offering. read more

It was an ok experience. I was there last night and you would have thought they were closed. We drive by thinking oh we will go there but then were like they are closed. Well I was hungry so I decided to call and make sure they were closed only to find out that they are open and asked what time they were open they were so rude and never answered what time so we went home dropped off people came in and they were open so we went. When we did go we didn't know that we were suppose to sit ourselves so we finally did and then the waiter took forever to come. We were about ready to get up and leave when she finally came and got our order. So we ordered our drink but when we asked for a few more minutes to look at the menu and we did it took a very long time for the waiter to come back. We ordered and it took quite a long time to get our food considering we only ordered a hamburger and chicken sandwhich. We finally got our food which was decent to say the least and then took more time to get our check. If we go back we need to make sure that they actually are open they need lighting on the outside. read more

I have to begin this review by saying that I have never reviewed a restaurant online before but I felt it my duty to try to save someone else from the same mistake. I ordered a steak sandwich with mushrooms, cheese and onion rings. My husband ordered a roast beef plate with mashed potatoes. 1. my steak sandwich had a small piece of steak(the menu said 6 oz so I understand that). However, the steak had so much grissle(I think that's how you spell it) that I could only actually chew and swallow a few bites. 2. The mushrooms on the sandwich were cold, canned mushrooms. I'm not sure if it's a gourmet rule on cooking but I have never ordered a steak sandwich and the restaurant put canned mushrooms on it. 3. Because they put canned mushrooms on the sandwich, the piece(sandwich slice size) of cheese didn't melt so envision a grissly(sp) steak sandwich, cold watery canned mushrooms, a hard piece of unmelted cheese and bread that was twice the size of anything contained in it. 3. My onion rings( that i had to pay $2 extra for) were cold. My steak sandwich and onion rings came to $10.50.....RIDICULOUS My husband fared slightly better as only his mashed potatoes were cold. His was just a smaller size plate though, no where near worth the price. He paid for it with the fact that he couldn't get them to refill his tea. The total cost for the 1 tea and 2 meals, $26.00. For that amount of money we could have went to several places in the area and got FAR better food. Joey b's, pasta house, affton cafe...just to name a few within a few miles. Also to note that because, even though it was rainy and 48 degrees, they had the door open because "it was being fixed". The man who was fixing it was chatting on the phone on the porch the whole time we tried to eat. If the owner reads this, my suggestion to them would be, cut the menu down to a few things and make them quality food. I suspect the lack of quality is due to trying to have too much variety. Save your money and go to one of the other places around. read more
