We needed dinner a little later and Mike Duffy's was open till 10:00, I think we go there around 8:30ish. There is a mannequin right at the front entrance that made me do a double take, it advertises their merchandise. I kept thinking it was a person. We were greeted and seated right away, the girl that sat us ended up as our waitress, too. She was super friendly and answered questions with a smile. I ordered a salad and chili both with no cheese. Got a boneless chicken appetizer with their sauce, the were ok, the sauce was good and the ranch was good. Salad was good, I ordered the ranch and the Italian and they Italian was good, too. We were walking around Downtown Kirkwood and realized we were starving. We didn't want to walk far and realized we were by Mike Duffy's. Our extended family raves about this place, but neither my Mom nor I had tried it. We decided to step in for lunch. The atmosphere was, typical sports bar, but definitely not dim and grungy. There was a large dining room and a spacious patio (unfortunately located facing a parking lot, but still, a nice patio). Our server, Josh, was phenomenal. Attentive and very funny. The food was surprisingly good. I got a regular Cheeseburger, which came with onions, lettuce, and tomato. My Mom went for the Bison Burger, and we both got fries on the side. The burgers were delicious. Juicy, flavorful, pretty big in size as well. The fries were crispy and went really with the Southwest Ranch. Yum! Upon entering the restaurant and approaching the hostess stand, we were not greeted by the hostess. There were no other customers but she just stared through my soul. I said hi and gave her the number in our party(5). She said, "Five? Well, I'll have to get a table ready then." She prepared the table (?) and came back a few minutes later. The lighting is incredibly bright in this restaurant- definitely affected the ambiance. With our not great experience with the hostess, I was worried about how the service would be. We went on a Tuesday and there was no live music, but I enjoyed the overhead music. The food was great, except for the croissant for my chicken salad sandwich. It was stale. This is the only reason for a 4-star. It should be a 4.75!I'm not big on sweet margaritas theirs was not too sweet. The bartender made what I say was the perfect margarita! This place is ok. Normal selection of drinks, decent appetizers, and standard selection of bar food to order for a meal. They have an interesting set of burgers available, but we weren't impressed. The Pub Burger has some sort of hash added as a topping. It falls off the burger and doesn't add much flavor. The regular burger we ordered to be more done was less done than anything at the table. Mike Duffy's - They nail the atmosphere and service but they gotta up the food game to earn another star. Definitely a Kirkwood institution though. I've visited several times. I've sampled: the T Ravs, Irish Nachos, Cheese Burger, Chicken Sandwich w/ Wing Sauce, Spinach Salad, French Onion Soup, and the Spinach Artichoke pizza. Out of all those menu items, the pizza was the only memorable one. The burger needs more salt/seasoning (it's a thick burger), the chicken was pretty average, soup and salad (nothing special), and the fries are small portions that need seasoning. That said, they make up for any short comings in food with Service (Mindy and Giani behind the bar), Atmosphere (Live Acoustic music regularly), and Happy Hour specials. Ask about Happy Hour because it's not really published - domestic beer, wine, well drinks, and app specials. Another huge selling point is large covered patio with heaters when weather is nice. Overall, I think the food is better at PJ's nearby but atmosphere is better at Mike Duffy's. I will return. read more

We visited Mike Duffy's this past Friday evening. I ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad, which cost $16. What a huge disappointment! The salad looked like it was dumped out of a bag with a few bacon bits and red onion added with tiny chicken pieces. The Southwest Chicken salad at Chick-fil-A has more taste and content for a way lower price. If this is the quality Mike Duffy's offers, save your money and don't order a salad here. I eat at this restaurant at least twice per month. So I stopped in at 5:30 on a Tuesday afternoon and decided to try something I never had ordered before. I really like the patty melt so I got that. For my side I got the sweet potato waffle fries! (I usually order the house made chips which are excellent.) These are the best sweet potato fries I've ever eaten. Katie gave me great service. The kitchen got my food out in 15 minutes. Duffy's is a great family venue with a great menu. Figure on $20 per adult for a meal with a glass of wine. read more

Went to Duffy's last week for dinner. The food was good as usual but the restaurant was filthy. My tennis shoes stuck to the feet of the table so bad that there was a huge 'ripping' sound every time I lifted a foot. There were gnats flying around everywhere. We were sitting under Bret Hull's framed Jersey and the picture frame that had a light on it was covered in at least a year's worth of dust. I am in my 50's and have been eating there for decades but do better guys. Keeping a clean place is not rocket science! We went to Duffy's last night after dinner elsewhere in Kirkwood because they had live music. The music was very pleasant, not too loud and a nice acoustic duo that played good songs. The lights were WAAAAYYYY too high in the bar area for good ambience for listening to music. It made us very uncomfortable, along with the lack of overhead radio music when the band was on break (super awkward silence in a bar is never pleasant). Along with our drinks I ordered the cobbler for dessert and it was pretty yuck. It was a foil pan with black burnt residue on the sides, basic cinnamon apples which were fine but tasted of the burnt edges, and some very unpleasant raw dough in very small bits somewhere near the bottom. I get the feeling that they really rely on people ordering the (extra charge) vanilla ice cream on top to cover the ugliness. The cobbler was a big miss and very disappointing. My husband ordered some wings and really liked them. My wine (a malbec) was pretty disappointing after my much better wine at dinner elsewhere. I think my friends liked their mixed drinks just fine. It was an ok experience, but they need to make it much more pleasant to enjoy a band if they want to attract people for live music. Ambience makes a big difference. read more

Overall, the experience was pretty weak. Some issues include expensive food relative to value, slow service, inability to have draught beer, and old fixtures/atmosphere. Nothing appears to have been updated for years. On the bright side, they had the cardinals game on. My wife's bison burger was pretty good overall but the vegetable medley seemed as if it was purchased from Sam's and tossed on the plate. Little taste. I had a Buffalo chicken wrap, also weak (small) and overloaded with sauce. The server was slow and needs to step up her game. Slow as in she took forever to acknowledge our existence even after ordering beers. In fact, we nearly walked out but didn't want the beers to go to waste. While it wasn't her fault, the venue did not have any beer on tap, another hairbrain situation. So canned beers it is. Overall the tab was $65 for pretty basic stuff (lacking) that's hard to mess up and cans of beer (no draughts). I think we each drank two. Really sliding down hill...Just a mess of a process to book a happy hour. Offered the meeting room with options for a buffet or ordering off the menu. Then the day of the event, just about 4 hours prior to the schedule arrival time, let us know that we had a minimum food order of $300 to use the room. Of course tax and automatic gratuity would be offered. When asking about a guaranteed beverage bill, they assumed we would be drinking, but it isn't factored into any of the minimums. Manager Marty was less than accommodating, the worst type of service manager I have worked with in years and blamed the miscommunication on his "newer" manager that set us up. We didn't have a budget for our not-for-profit to fork over nearly $400 for the training meeting. Lost opportunity, when we try to bring you 25 business and community leaders to your store for a great experience and when given the chance to make it a better than ideal situation, no common courtesy. The t-ravs, un hot wings and pizza weren't very good. Had plenty of food left over that no one wanted to take home. At least they let us run separate drink tabs with our amazing server. He was the highlight of the evening. Ethan is the only reason why this rating wasn't a zero. Our experience in using the meeting room was also spoiled by the constant distraction from the coming and going to and from the kitchen, with kitchen noise, and a creaky door that must have been the only way in and out of the kitchen. Having a temporary barrier or utilizing the other entrance at least while we had a presentation going on would have been the respectful thing to do. Abysmal. Salmon entree had probably a 1/8 cup of rice and we were charged $1 extra for a vegetable medley even though it was listed as what the dish came with. The vegetables were frozen and the plater couldn't even be bothered to remove the plastic bag. Disgusting. $22 for a joke of a dish. I'll never set foot in a Mike Duffy's again. read more

On our first visit my wife and I left with mixed feelings. We did have excellent service from Bryan and the menu was loaded with many items. We opted for the pizza because it was half priced that day. We also ordered a Caesar salad. The salad was average and the croutons were very soggy. The pizza was a good size with tasty cheese The sauce was bland and the two toppings ordered, bacon and mushroom, were very sparse. It didn't compare well with numerous other restaurants in St. Louis (Salvage Yard and Faraci's to name a couple). It also suffered from having too much oregano. The final minus is the fact you are charged a penalty for using a credit card. Note to Mike Duffy's management: This is a terrible business practice for a restaurant, especially since that fee you note in your penalty statement is tax deductible. Personally, a 3 star rating means that if you are in the area and need a bite, the place is ok, but definitely not worth a trip. What is it about hosts wearing dirty uniforms lately? Anyway, the service was ok, we did not wait long for service or food, and everything seemed fresh. The chicken tenders were a bit too salty, the blue cheese dressing was missing that tangy blue cheese flavor, the home made chips were overcooked, but the hamburger was really good and cooked rear, as we requested it (which that by itself is a super plus!).
