It pains me to give Friendly's four stars. Service is still fantastic, ambiance is great and just as I've always remembered. The thing is they've steadily been decreasing size, and increasing costs, of the things I truly love, the specialty ice cream. This one is a bit skimpier than expected and not overflowing with goodness. The ice cream inside was very melty yet still very delicious. Am not around a Friendly's a lot, and there are fewer of them now, though I try and visit any chance get. Hope this returns to my normal instead of it being the new normal like so many other things. Sadness is real. Keep it real Friendly's! Please!

Friendly's. You know the classic american food stop with the fun ice creams. Passing by one after years of never seeing any, I had to stop in for the nostalgic feeling. The burger and fries were a cheaply priced meal that came with a free ice cream! Burger was mid, but expected cause it is a small chain diner. Good cheap protein source tho. Ice cream was sooo yummy. Very cutely decorated with a topping of choice. I don't remember the exact price I paid but it was no more than $15 for the meal. Atmosphere was cute and friendly with a huge family feeling to it. The waitress was very sweet and quick with any questions we had!

    clam strips

I did a take out order clam strips and honey BBQ chicken supermelt when I got home I was amazed at how much smaller they have become the supermelt had 2 small chicken nuggets on each side and small piece of bacon it was the thinnest sandwich I have ever gotten in a restaurant and the clam strip were tiny dry nuggets and over fried and hard. If I had dined in i would have sent both back but since it was take out my only recourse is to let others know of my experience.

I love Friendly's. It is one of my favorite restaurants that I've ever dined at. Every time I've visited this restaurant, I've got nothing but awesomeness and courtesy from the people who care about your meals and satisfaction. I had Doritos Cool Ranch Cheeseburger, loaded waffle fries and Birthday Friend-Z. The food is excellent and so is the management, atmosphere and the smiles they give you when you say I wanna go to Friendly's and you visit it for awesome food. It is somewhat a restaurant for childhood goodness but it is also a perfect place to eat anytime. I visited that restaurant on May 21, 2023.

That's a picture of the cold french fries or should I say reheat it french fries

I ordered a a burger, a rye bread. The burger was cold, lukewarm not cold. It had absolutely no taste to it. The french fries were cold. It looked as if they had reheated the fries so I asked for more fries and they brought out the fries, but they still looked as if they was reheated. It was just a terrible food experience.

I love the original grilled cheese, Swiss patty melt, and all the great ice cream flavors. The Vernon Friendly's is my favorite location and I love when Jessica is working. She's our favorite server!!

Immediately seated us, hot coffee, quick ordering, attentive service. Ordered Jack Cheese Chicken off senior menu--comes with free small sundae! Clean, neat atmosphere, welcome break from hours on the road.

Good food, great company. The best part was our waitress Ashley C! I'm not sure I've ever had a better waitress at ANY restaurant. Our needs were met before even asking. Drinks refilled, food came quick, checked in right on time. She definitely seems like she came from a high end restaurant. So friendly and always a smile. Would come back just for her!

A stop on the way back to UCONN when I was a student there. The "go to" place after our kids' school events. Shortly after we moved to Manchester, over 38 years ago, the restaurant was closed for renovations. We were looking forward to seeing the revamped restaurant. Well, we were even more surprised when we stepped in the door - nothing had changed! Cleaner, perhaps new Naugahyde on the seats, but that mural on the wall was the same - those elves were timeless. When you sit down, you get a small paper cup of water. The menus are on the the wall - soups, sandwiches & ice cream. I'd always heard they had a patent on the way their cheeseburgers were made - a burger topped with crispy cheese. A must have. Prior to Covid, the condiments tray had ketchup, mustard & chopped onions. Now, there are packets of the condiments. No onions though. We shared an order of fries - crispy & good. I was too full to have ice cream after our meal, so we brought a half gallon (yes - a real half gallon) of our favorite flavor home - chocolate almond joy. Yum! Note - you need cash. No cards. There is an ATM in the restaurant.

But I'm always open to the idea that maybe I didn't get it right, and I eventually return. I recently visited the original Shady Glen, and I'm now a fan. This was my first visit to the original location, and perhaps that makes a difference. My other two or so visits were to the now closed other Manchester location. The atmosphere is a 50's style ice cream restaurant that also serves food. There are some tables. Some counter seats. Workers in old timey outfits. Definitely an old school vibe that they pull off. Service was friendly. I visited with two goals. Try a hot dog. And eat an Original Bernice Winged Cheeseburger. Probably the most famous burger in CT. SG uses CT's Grote & Weigel hot dogs. They split and grill them. They served mine sort of sandwich style on a long bun with a toothpick in the middle. Definitely an original presentation. They have no specialty dogs beyond the crispy cheese they also serve on the burgers. They do give you quality packets of relish, mustard and ketchup and a small container of chopped onions. I added all these ingredients. And it was a tasty dog. The Original Bernice Winged Cheeseburger arrived, looking like a monarch, sitting on a throne of crinkle cut French Fries. The crispy cheese design, with all those angles extending from the bun, is an engineering marvel. There is melty cheese too. The burger looked about like a quarter pound. Tasted good. I added lettuce and tomato. Both fresh. A one of a kind burger that has thrilled people for Decades. The fries were fine. The Cole Slaw, however, was top tier. There was more than just thin chopped cabbage. Kale maybe. Some other stuff. The dressing was tasty, and the slaw wasn't overly dressed. Shady Glen is a CT classic. Indeed, an American Classic according to James Beard. Who can argue with that? 4.25 Stars

This store has 8-10 fuel pumps and a mini grocery store inside. On 8/21/26 they refused to cash any ticket over 100 dollars, and the excuse was they didn't have enough money in the register. Ct Lottery requires all vendors to have 500 dollars in the drawer at all times. Plus, the staff seems unfriendly and unprofessional at the same time. This store is taking in 1,000 per hour and there should be no excuse not to cash lottery tickets that they are selling. Plus, the employees should stay at the check-out station when there is a crowd of customers not wondering around the store acting like they are too busy to do their job and check-out customers. I guess people don't want to work anymore.
