On my way to do a filming for The Antique Detective in Putnam, CT. and needed breakfast before starting. Searched Yelp first and found Toast. First walking in I noticed how clean the place was and that is so important to me and the place was very busy. I ordered a waffle, side of crispy bacon and coffee. The food came out at a good time the team is run like a fined tuned maching. My breakfast was awesome, real butter, real maple syrup and my bacon was cooked perfectly. Wish I lived closer. My friend and I were taking a day trip on a Saturday . We were on our way and had a long drive ahead of us. We decided to stop around 930 am to have breakfast. Perfect timing and place! It's a good size place but it gets filled up quickly!! The line is out the door. The staff all work together and they are amazing! So helpful! They offer breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, French toast, omelettes and many of the items can be done Gluten free! So satisfying. Our orders were very good and delicious! The Gluten free bread comes from a local baker . So good! Their breads and muffin are freshly baked on site! The portions are pretty big! You will not leave hungry! I've reviewed Toast before and it's always been a wonderful breakfast place. Today, I wanted to highlight one of their breakfast specials - crepes with strawberries. 5 star! I've had crepes before in another place and it is a delicious breakfast treat. However, that place has never served it again. Upon entering Toast this morning, and seeing crepes listed on the specials board, I took it as I sign that I must have them. Our server was wonderful. Apologetically telling me only 1 crepe remained ( the serving was to have been 2) and asking if I wanted a piece of French toast in place of the 2nd crepe. I said that 1 would be fine. So it was a good surprise to receive 2 crepes when she brought my plate - there was 1 more available. And of course, I ate them both. Toast is clean & bright. And as a UConn alumni, I appreciate all the memorabilia displayed in the restaurant. Definitely a go to for breakfast when in the area! read more

The food is average and there is NO, i repeat , No heat in there, I had on a heavy sweater, a blouse and my coat and my fingers were numb from the cold. I had to put the heat on in our car just to be able to move my fingers after that experience. Service was ok--nothing spectacular. Save your money go to McDonalds.Very poor!!!! Great breakfasts! Sunday mornings are crazy busy. It took a very long time for us to get our food. But, it was worth the wait. (The manager apologized) The fried potatoes are very simple but very good, no herbs to overpower the potato flavor. I had Saturday breakfast with my little 6-year-old son at your nice restaurant establishment that we honestly enjoy visiting & eating at your place from time to time & most times I eat alone during the weekdays. Well, today is actually the 2nd time the same kind/sweet waitress and your female manager have overly charged me on 2 of my entire breakfast meal bills as I was not happy that this matter occurred to me twice already. This female manager is simply an unequitable stickler with her high pricing of specific substitutions & food items which is unacceptable toward a loyal customer of your restaurant! I'm a fairly new resident living in Willington CT as I moved here on Feb 2026 as I relish the countryside of this good town. I also like that my new town is surrounded by Storrs, Mansfield, Tolland, & other borderline nice towns! With all this being said, there was another time that I ordered turkey bacon with my breakfast meal & I ended up receiving regular chewy & fatty bacon which is a food item I stay away from b/c I monitor my food consumption from a healthy standpoint. I let this human error slide as I was fine with letting this mistake pass b/c we are not perfect individuals! Now, I have been charged 2 times already with high total breakfast bills by the same waitress who addressed my concerns to your female manager & both times your manager rejected my honest & fair questioning of her high prices on certain food items & substitutions that I ordered at your restaurant. Here is one of the main problems, the waitress is not properly communicating specific food items/substitutions based on prices directly to me when I'm placing my breakfast orders, therefore, to me this is an honest training issue being caused by your female manager. I informed your kind waitress that this is not her fault b/c she is honestly following orders from the manager which is why I still gave her tips both times I had bad experiences at your restaurant. I'm a successful U.S. productive citizen, businessman, entrepreneur, & highly educated in life and I don't like dealing with conflict at all coupled with getting charged for quality, large portions, & delicious food at very high costs without communicating to me at the table the actual prices of specific food items & when I ask for substitutions, therefore, as a loyal customer to get blind-sided when I receive my total food bill from the waitress is really unfair to me. This is one of my favorite breakfast places. I had not been in a while and was recently there twice in two weeks. The food was always good but it seems they may have new cooks and the food is even at a higher level!! Just delicious!! I recently had the veggie omelette, may sound boring but it was the BEST one I've ever had. The second time I went, I tried the breakfast special of eggs Benedict with chorizo and it was outstanding!! The service was outstanding both visits and the restaurant is always immaculate!!! We stopped by this cute lil breakfast spot for a bunch this afternoon. The atmosphere was very cute. Since it was a Thursday afternoon it was quite quiet with few customers. When we entered we were told to sit wherever we like. We couldn't hear the server properly at first, so she said it again, and maybe that's where the annoyance with us began? We took a window seat by the bar, which was nice. The food as-well was pretty good. I got the BLT and my partner got the western omelette. Our biggest issue was with the service coming after ordering our food. Probably about 10 minutes after we received our food, the same server dropped the check at our table, with no other word. This was odd. Usually a server would check in and ask how the food was eventually, but there was nothing of the sort. This was weird to us... but we figured maybe they were busy. By the time we got to the end of our meal, we had been sitting with our card on the check, my partner's plate empty, and mine half done (waiting for a box) for about 15-20 minutes. The restaurant was about empty, and yet we seemed to be sitting there for awhile before eventually I flagged down the same server, asking for a box. This was met with a scathing look back to me. Within moments, the other server came over to our table, with a box and their POS system in hand to take care of our table. Took about two minutes to get us out the door. A trip to Storrs is never disappointing....something about college towns mixed with farmland keeps bringing me to the area and now another reason why I should be back here. Father's day, and it's time once again to scope out a breakfast joint to try. Overall, they're a solid choice for basic diner grub. They have a nice decor, very home like and plenty of seats. The servers were busy with the holiday rush, but evenytually got to those waiting. Coffee was weak but nothing done cream and Splenda couldn't solve. I look at the menu, no specials stop I go for their featured. Named "the Pile" it's eggs on top of home fries topped with broiled cheese. I got toast with it, and opted for the cinnamon toast. No baked goods today, they needed to bake bread for the holiday. Food comes out very rapidly. The short order cook was really hitting their stride and was flinging out orders rapid fire. As for the food, was kind of meh. The eggs were cooked fine, and the home fries were fully cooked too. The problem was that everything was unseasoned. Plain potatoes with a light grill and fully cooked eggs with no flavor beyond a mound of just melted cheese. With lots of ketchup, this could be eaten. As-is, not so great. The toast was good! And they had a strawberry spread which was fresh and pretty tasty. Didn't get that till the end of the meal though, they were too busy. I can see them being really good, but I can't recommend them as a go-to. If you're a local, happen to drive by this place and need some eggs, theres a lot to like here. But there's a lot of breakfast spots to try, and this ones only really good for the area read more

One of the best places I have eaten in Connecticut. Hear about this place a few times, but eventually got the time to make it there. The crowd said it all and the crowd included people of all ages and a walk through the parking lot resorted in car number plates from 11 different states (people from all over the USA visit the place) as we waited for our turn to get seated. We ordered the pile, Irish coffee, grits, biscuit and waffle. Everything tasted good and the service was pretty fast. The accolades on the wall for being one off the best in Connecticut is well deserved. It's an interesting story with a husband taking the help of his ex wife to manage and succeed. We dropped off my daughter for her sophomore year and decided to give it a shot. We were greeted and seated pretty quickly. The menu was pretty standard for a mostly breakfast place ( my vibe only, they have a lunch menu as well but close at two I believe). We ordered and she grabbed the last orders of grits for us( with cheese), then we waited quite a while for our food to come. That's the only reason for the middle rating. Our food was good, my kids pancakes were enormous and they took most of them to go. I found out why it took so long to get our food, we were the last table during a rush at the place. Cute little diner with a great basic menu. Bright and airy, it definitely gives off the classic "diner" vibe. We got a Belgian waffle, "Irish" eggs Benedict (with corned beef hash), Biscuits with gravy, and a Philly omelet. Everything was cooked well and tasty. Hollandaise sauce could use a little more "zip," but the home fries were perfect! Prices were reasonable, especially compared to other places I've visited recently. This is such a cute little brunch place, with amazing eggs and AMAZING bread. This restaurant is also one of the BEST gluten free restaurants I have ever been to. They can make anything gluten free because the owner herself is gluten-intolerant. She has options of gluten free hollandaise sauce, pancakes, waffles, fried chicken, and bread that is larger than a postage stamp. I have not had better gluten free bread in the UConn area, I can't recommend it enough!! The only thing to note: when there is a UConn Huskies game or an admitted students day, make sure to come early as the restaurant gets incredibly crowded. read more

Went by this place a lot, and decided this morning to give it a try, seeing it was a Sunday and we were up early. Looks like it's shared with a place called "Hop 44". Entrance for Toast is on the side, and at the end for Hop. Walked in about 7:30 am, and was seated right away. First impression is the "country" feel you get when you walk in. Every table was clean and organized, with these cute salt and pepper shaker holders (see photo). Very simple menu, but I didn't get a chance to really look it over. My wife announced that they have chicken and waffles, and that did it, everything else didn't matter. Orders placed, and they came to the table about 10 minutes later. Everything was hot. Wife had eggs over easy, bacon, and raisin toast. No complaints from her, and she said that the raisin toast was possibly homemade. The chicken and waffles: waffle was a home made, with fluffy consistency. The syrup that they provided was tasty, and didn't seem like cheap food service. The chicken, which was a sliced breast piece came piping hot, with a nice coating. This piece was super moist, and would be great in a sandwich. Price was very reasonable. Seeing that this was a Sunday, we noticed that just before 8 am, people were waiting for empty tables. So either get here early or be prepared to wait. This is a place wort waiting for. read more

Was staying with my buddy for a few days in Connecticut and we were pumped for early morning dinner breakfasts. The place was packed but we got a nice table and our service was great. My buddy got the California Benedict and I got the cheddar grits breakfast with kielbasa, eggs and rye toast. We both got a coffee and we thought that for over $3 the coffee was kinda not good. However, the kielbasa and eggs were great! Also this place is called toast so you expect the toast to be pretty good? Idk what it was but that rye toast was really, really solid. I was a bit shocked when they brought me my plate of food only to THEN tell me they were out of grits. They said they'd offer to not charge me for that part of the meal (though not sure how much that would have been) or to give me home fries. I opted for the home fries. I was a bit miffed, there was some pretty cool things on the menu and I probably would have picked something completely different if they'd just come back after I'd ordered...but they waited till they'd put most of the dish down in front of me to tell me the cool part of the meal was not coming. Alas, worse things have happened at a meal and we still enjoyed the food. Definitely leaning towards a college feel to the place as it's close to UCONN but tons of locals as well. read more
