Friends Salon is both warm and inviting. Everyone is so talented in their own way and really takes the time to make sure you love the service you came in for. My family and I have been coming to them since they opened, and even before then when they were across the street. I moved out of state in 2016 and haven't trusted a single person since then to cut my hair since then, and was luckily able to see Nancy the same day I called to make an appointment. This is a very family friendly salon with a wonderful atmosphere. The fact that my family and I have been coming here for decades speaks volumes. Not a friendly salon. I was a first time customer for a haircut. The staff standing by the entrance did not even greet me, but the customer coming after me got a big smile and hello - that's discrimination, already a bad sign. Once I was on the chair and explaining what I wanted, she suddenly started talking in another language to another staff - that's rude and disrespectful. Then, told me in English to go with the other staff, who ended up cutting my hair. She did a decent job, but it didn't look like what I had asked for. I didn't like that she suddenly pull me roughly from my shoulders to have me sit up, and I thought it was a bit strange that she had me facing the TV the whole time, instead of the mirror, as if I was a little girl who needed distraction. My husband comes to this salon for his haircut and the cost and quality is perfect for him. Today I went in to TRIM my short straight hair and they charged me $35.00. What a huge rip off! I'm happy to pay a fair price for a quality haircut, but to pay this amount for ONLY a TRIMP without shampoo or a blow dry (straight hair), is asking too much. - I just left feeling ripped off and that's just not a way I want to leave anyplace I go. Pro-Touch who? This is my official go-to place. Most of the ladies from Pro Touch Hair & Nails from across the street decided to branch off and open their own salon, hence the name. They're friends! What they've been able to accomplish, especially in such a short period of time, is amazing. EVERYTHING is brand new and immaculately clean, with fresh paint on the walls, cute chic decor and state of the art nail/pedi equipment. One would expect that their prices would be higher with the overhead of the new place-that's not the case at all. They're priced about the same as Pro Touch's old prices, in the meantime, Pro Touch's new owners have RAISED the prices on a lot of services. I won't go back there. Nancy handles my hair (color, low lights, styling, etc), haircuts for each of my 3 kids including my ridiculously picky tween, and my eyebrow waxing. I have another place I like to frequent for pedis, especially since they're cheaper, but if there's ever a time that Carla C. (BFF Extraordinaire) needs a cut/color/whatever, I'll happily oblige and find something to busy myself with there... :o) I really want to give these ladies my business. Their customer service is off the hook. Some nasty haglet came in and tried to poach MY Nancy when I'd had an appointment; she was so rude and vocal and DOWNRIGHT hateful to poor Le that I felt awful. Tammy did my nails here the other day and I found them to be pretty good overall. I went back to acrylics and got pink glitter (not the powder, just polish) for the tips and clear for the rest of the nail. It cost me $22 bucks. Acrylics usually go around that much so I seemed satisfied with it. As far as quality goes, she did a pretty good job but when I inspected them the next day, I noticed that she didn't really clean the rest of the residue on the inside of the nails (backside) as good as she could have. Also, I'm use to having my manicurist at least do some kind of maintenance to my skin.Tammy told me this would cost me an additional $5. The salon wasn't busy when I came in so she never felt rushed or anything. She gave me what I asked for so I don't have many complaints. I would go back, but just make sure that she does the clean up and you should me good. As for the rating, I knocked down a star because of the cleaning and the fact that although the nails looked good, the skin growth that wasn't cut off like normal looked bad.. The other star is because all the business concerning the $$ was all hush hush and on the down low whispers. This type of business practice makes me feel like I'm scheming and I really don't like or appreciate that. I'm all for a bargain but I want consistency... meaning that if I come two weeks from now, it's gonna be the same price as before.. read more

I looked up this place on my Yelp App for my Evo and found it very quickly since it was 3min from my house. I called and made an appt at 12 which wasn't necessary since when i went they were not even ready to do my nails anyways. I had my eyebrows don while i waited for my nail person to help me. I've been going here for a few years and have had probably half a dozen haircuts or trims. Unfortunately, my last experience here was so bad that I'll never go back. Last month my boyfriend and I stopped in for haircuts the day before our first vacation in five years, in Europe. I had a grown out bob and asked the stylist (the older woman) for an angled bob, shorter in the back with slight layering on the outside. She proceeded to cut and style my hair and I thought it looked fine, until that evening when I saw that the back was crooked. The next day we went back and I asked her to straighten out the back. She took me right away and proceeded to work on my hair. She was being kind of rough and yanked out one of my hoop earrings with her hairbrush. It happens, no big deal. What happened next is a big deal though: she was using electric clippers on the side (on my hair? I'm not sure) and proceed to hit my neck with them a few times. When my boyfriend and I got out to the car he noticed my neck was bleeding. She had nicked a mole on the side of my neck with the clippers. I went back in and she wasn't present so another employee cleaned and bandaged my neck. The area welted up pretty badly in a square shape and then scabbed over. I have plenty of pictures. I had to deal with caring for and keeping it covered all the while on my vacation for three weeks. Even worse, it now appears to be scarring so I had to buy a $20 tube of Mederma and am applying it daily in the hopes to lessen the scarring. As if this weren't bad enough, the haircut ended up not looking good as the back was way short and the front left long, so there was no smooth angled line. Also, the layered ends are already splitting one month later and looking fried which makes me wonder if the clippers were used on the actual hair ends. I'm looking forward to getting my hair fixed elsewhere as soon as I can afford it. read more

I went here in the summer to get 13 inches of hair cut off, so that I could donate it. Even though this was my second tail, I was still EXTREMELY nervous. Long hair gives me a sense of security, you know? I also think that I look funny with short hair. But anyway, it's for a good cause. So, I found this place on Yelp. I requested Ly as Yelp says that she's awesome. I told the hair to do WHATEVER SHE THOUGHT WOULD LOOK BEST on me. She knew that I was pretty antsy as she asked me probably like 4 times if I was sure I wanted to go through with it. She's so cute. She did a pretty good job with giving me an A-line bob. It was so drastically different from my longggggg hair, but many of my friends said that it looked good. She took her time, which I really appreciated. I hate it when hair stylists rush whenever there are people waiting. But not Ly! She was great. I was nervous the whole time she was cutting because she managed to carry out a full on conversation with me while she was cutting. (I always get nervous when dentists, hair stylists, etc. talk to me while they're working on me.) Ly is so sweet. I highly recommend her. The pricing is really good. Only about $15 for my extremely time consuming hair cut. I think they charge extra for long hair too, so a typical cut probably costs like $12? Good price, great service! However, the parking lot is a little small, so be aware of that. It's easy to find - right on the corner of Bascom and Union. I will definitely be back next summer when I go to donate my 3rd ponytail! read more

The salon I normally go to raised their prices this year, so I was in search of a new place to get a badly needed hair cut. Lo and behold, Yelp comes out with a newsletter recommending some salons in the area. After reading through all the reviews for the different salons, I decided to check out Friends Salon. I walked in around 2:40pm on a Sunday afternoon, and the ladies were quite busy, but I didn't have to wait long at all. I barely sat down and one of the stylists was ready for me. Her name was Lily and she did a wonderful job cutting my hair. She was very friendly, listened to what I wanted and made a recommendation here and there. She even took the time to flat iron my hair as well. She was quick and did an excellent job. She cut my hair shoulder length like I wanted, added layers, thinned out my hair and cut a few bangs. My hair turned out way better than I would have expected, and all for only $15 (w/ no shampoo)! That's only one third of what I normally pay, yeah! I will definitely be back. The salon is bright and airy and the ladies are really friendly. No chemical smell like some salons have. They welcome walk-ins, no need to make an appointment. In fact, all the people who came in while I was getting my hair cut didn't have an appointment. read more

I am so glad I found my new hairdresser here because you know how hard it is to find someone you can trust with your hair! I always see Le for all my hairstyling needs. She's awesome at highlighting! I usually call before I come in just to make sure they aren't too busy, but if I just walk in, I might have to wait only 7 minutes tops. Everyone here is super friendly and I love how they've decorated the place. They pride themselves on customer satisfaction, and Le always makes sure I'm happy with her work. I love this place! I called around for a very last minute hair color before going out of town. Le was able to get me in and did an amazing job on my hair cut and color. I was even able to get a gel manicure while the color was setting.
