All the food I've had from there has been pretty darned good.... I stop here often to get finger foods to bring to friends' parties and such. I also stop in for a sandwich from time to time. Though I'm very much a meat eater, I have to say, I adore their Ultimate Vegetarian with the addition of hot peppers.... messy to eat? Yes, but freakin amazing. The prepared-entree-type foods have been a bit more hit-or-miss, with some being rather bland and uninteresting, but most of the time they're quite good. Every time I visit this place I just find it another reason to like it. We started coming here for the grinders, which are probably some of the best prices grinders you will find in Hamden county ($5.50 for an Italian half vienna loaf?!?). Everything is freshly made and the fact they have a line out of the door at lunch should show how good their grinders are. After lunch they still have a fairly good sized market of stuff that you probably will not find in the grocery store. On top of this they have a good selection of Italian wine and other Italian varieties. Hands down my favorite place to eat! I have not met anyone who does not love everything about this place. The moment I step inside, my heart rate jumps since I see and smell all the amazing food and know that I can't leave with all of it. Every year my family hosts thanksgiving and I have made a habit of coming here to get all the ingredients for a delicious antipasto salad. I am sure they could make you one if you wanted, but I like my personal touch. The first time I came to do it, the owner helped me to design this amazing dish. All of the meats are amazing as well as the cheeses. It also has stuffed banana peppers, marinated mushrooms, and artichokes as well as many other similar dishes that I could eat by themselves. Sorry for ranting about the antipasto ingredients, but it is turned into my favorite part of thanksgiving, especially since I always get some other food while I visit this fine establishment. Now on to the food. If you want to be classic italien deli, get a classic italian sandwich with salami, ham, capicola, and all the goods, amazing. My favorite, has become the meatball sandwich. They have a variety of sizes for the sandwiches, but I always go big since I cannot fit enough of their delicious food in my stomach. The chicken parm is also another great sandwich. Another one of my favorites here is the seafood macaroni salad. It is the perfect side dish to any sandwich. One of my favorite parts of the Frigo experience is approaching the checkout window where there is always an employee serving up multiple kinds of delicious Italian cheese. They are either made there or imported from Italy and all have amazing flavor. The same man will also give you wine samples of any wine you want to taste (not a wine guy myself though). Great quality food and fair prices (especially the sandwiches). Get the classic Italian on 1/2 Vienna roll with veggies and hot peppers and you'll be in heaven! Their home-made chips are pretty good too. Definitely one of the better, and more authentic Italian subs I've ever had. The store could be cleaner in the seating area and attended to more often but it's more of a takeout place anyways. Frigo's in a great food, I've gotten many sandwiches there, as well as the food from their case. Their case is filled with delicious prepared salads, and Italian dishes as well as other classic dishes. They also sell a variety of specialty grocery items. All of the food I have gotten there has been great. Because of the popularity of the place during certain times of the day there can be a bit. I will admit there been a few times I have been there and my food was prepared wrong and sloppily, but overall my experience has been pretty good their. They also cater, and they do a great job. I've been here a few times. Each time it's during lunch and each time it's packed with a line out the door! I would complain but that just means 1-awesome food and 2-I'm an idiot for going at lunch. I love delis. I don't know how to convey the amount of love but believe me-it's deep. I actually don't mind the long line. It gives me plenty of time to decide on what I want plus the case of prepackaged foods (pasta, salads, etc) keeps me entertained by deciding what else I want. I usually go for the Carnivore. Roast beef, bacon, melted cheddar and horseradish sauce. Oh em gee I'm addicted. I've tried a few other sandwiches and they've all been awesome but this is my favorite. I order the 1/2 vienna and eat one half of it for lunch and the rest for dinner. It's huge and delicious. Their homemade chips are phenomenal and I'm not a big chip person. Just your basic salt and pepper seasoning but so good. I recently tried their cannoli cookies and I may have to stay away now just so I don't get a pack to devour. Holy noms people. I have to follow the general theme of almost every other review and say that Frigo's is by far the best lunch place in town. To call it a deli is to sell it short. It's way more than that. I rarely go for the sandwiches because the meal options are just too amazing. You have to try the meat lasagna, then move on to the chicken piccata or chicken francaise and then of course you must try my favorite, chicken Napoli. Ridiculously big portion sizes! For Good Friday, I went with the fish and chips. Ahhhhmazing. If you're willing to put up with long and cramped line at lunch time, it's absolutely worth the wait. Best advice is to pre-order or go after 1:00. My other advice....plan to fit in an extra 10-15 minutes to your daily exercise routine the day you go. You'll need to burn off those extra calories. read more

Long time Yelp user, first review. Thought I would start with one of the best Italian delicatessens you will ever find - anywhere. I have been a steady FRIGO customer for fifteen years. Like everyone, I have my favorite sandwich, the Panino; Prosciutto, Capicola, Asiago cheese on a water roll. It keeps me coming back. From there it is just a matter of not going crazy. The preparation and presentation of meals and specialty items gets me every time. I dare you to buy the fresh potato chips and not return a week later for more. The lasagna (meat or veggie) has bailed out many family gatherings and one never has to apologize for take out from Frigo's. The reason for this continued success is the ever present Joe Frigo.Third generation , Joe raises the bar on a regular basis. He knows me, knows I am a loyal customer, but never stops treating me like he needs to earn my business every time I walk in. This spreads to his employees who do their best from front to back.
