I used to go to Fringe, to the same girl (whose name I've forgotten unfortunately). The first few times I went when my hair was a bit longer than shoulder length, I came out happy with my haircut, and found reasons to go back. Maybe this girl doesn't have experience with short asian hair or something (I'll just give her the benefit of a doubt), but when I decided to go for a pixie cut (a la Carey Mulligan) about a few months ago, she completely messed up my hair, tried to leave a large chunk in the front 'to "cover" up the hair that stuck up in the back' --her words more or less. Let me say that I've shaved my hair before, I've had weird bowl cuts, asymmetrical cuts, etc etc. Clearly I'm comfortable with short/weird haircuts, but this was beyond fixable because she went so short and uneven. I have never hated a haircut or have been upset by my hair until this happened and so I called back the next day to schedule another appointment. I ended up getting a different stylist (who apparently is more experienced with short haircuts). They sort of, I guess, redeemed themselves there and sent me off with a free thing of hair product. Needless to say, my hair is still really short and I won't be going back to Fringe again. read more

One star for the polite April Joy who refunded my money, comped me a hair product, and calmly listened and had a conversation with me as I felt hysterical. The other girl at the front desk who had proceeded to charge me after this cut had mumbled a "sorry" when I told her how upset i was that Emily cut 4 inches off instead of 2. Here's a little context: I'm a new mom, my son's christening is in 4 weeks, my sister's wedding in 12 weeks, and I battle weak hair due to a thyroid condition. My go-to stylists are Hans at Maxine and Daniel at Salon U. They are that good that I will post them in another salon's review. Sadly, both were unavailable this weekend and my hair had started the post-partum falling out. I needed a haircut desperately. I gambled & scheduled a haircut with Emily since we were going to be in the neighborhood for eye exams. My first mistake was not asking what level of a stylist she was. During my hair wash, I asked how long she had been at the salon and she said it was her FIRST WEEK. Red flag!! Still, I thought "I have pictures, all I need is a trim, this might work." I showed her multiple photos, told her where I wanted the shortest layer to be. She proceeds to take her scissors and cut straight across at that level. I said that's really short, even for the front and that's not face-framing - that's a cut! She said it was longer in the back. Okkkk, bad answer #1. Instead of showing me the back, she continues cutting away. I picked up some of the hair and said this is about 3-4 inches and she says, no, it's maybe 2-2.5 at the most. Bad answer #2. She should have stopped right there, asked questions, freakin brought out a measuring tape, anything to soothe the client, but rather, she insisted on her opinion. I wanted to tell her to stop, that I would just have Hans or Daniel fix it and I am SO MAD at myself for not stopping her. Hans always holds up the hair right before he cuts and asks "is this good?" That, a technique of a stylist who charges $110 for a haircut. My second mistake: trusting her. She's the stylist, she should know wet hair is not the same length as dry hair! No, that's an assumption and never again will I be so polite. Well, NEVER again will I let Emily touch my hair. In the end, she cut 4 inches off. No style, no length. I fought back tears while I was in the chair and after I was done. It had taken me 5 months to get that length! Now I'm going to wear my hair up for the next two months, have to get extensions for the big events and soothe my self esteem. Bad hair and baby weight are a double whammy. I think she heard mom, suburb, dead hair and gave me what she thought fit her vision. She clearly did not translate the picture I brought into her cutting. I could be really mean and say she literally did not see the vision, even with those glasses, but her non-work speaks for itself. If anyone's interested, I have photos from a wedding the night before and my hair afterward. No exaggeration, it was 4 inches and THAT is NOT a trim. I should also mention, I took off a star for this: I had paid, walked out, was crying at the car, decided I needed to talk to the manager, so I went back. All the stylists were gathered around at the front desk and, seeing me, scattered like little roaches. Emily literally stood up and ran off to the back. Seriously? Grow a pair. When you see a client walk back in, after not tipping you, making it clear that you cut her hair way too short, the least you could do is stand up and ask "what's up?" And I didn't even need to mention my name, they knew who I was, BY NAME. Gossip, much? read more

2 reviews in one: Called and made an appointment on Friday afternoon for a Satruday appointment. I said "give me who ever is available in the morning." I had previously seen Christina so therefore, they put me with her at 10:00am. That was a stretch for me since i have a new baby at home and was driving from Wheeling but i wanted to use my Gilt City voucher before it expired and i also liked my previous cut from Christina so i agreed to the time and appointment. I was also glad they got me in in such short notice. I arrived right on time for my appointment and was greeted by Christina shortly after. We were sitting doing a consult on my hair and what kind of cut i want and at the end I mentioned that i had a voucher and i forgot to let the front dest staff know. She seemed confused on what a Gilt City voucher... so i explained. She informed me that she doesnt discount her services, took my voucher to the front desk and left me at the chair. The front dest staff, Christina and myself had a discussion about it and i completly understood, even offered to pay full price for her hair cut. It was when she started giving me attitude and being rude towards me, asking me if i would like to reschedule my appointment or see another hair stylist when i decided that i didnt just drive from Wheeling on my day off to not get a hair cut and to get attitude from some hair stylist diva. I then informed the kind friendly nice front dest man that i would like to use my voucher and see someone else. She (Christina) told me that I really should have thought about this before booking on a Saturday morning with her. (Hooker you were wide open!! I called the day before and got an appointment with you) is what i really wanted to say. I did appologize for the misunderstanding and the inconvenience. I went back to the waiting area, saw her packing up her belongings and putting her sunglasses on. She grabbed her drink and walked out of the salon. I again appologized and she just shuffled past me with attitude and brushed me off with a "thats ok" and kept on walking with out really looking at me. MEANWHILE, I SAW PATRICK for my haircut AND LOVED LOVED LOVED HIM. I LOVED LOVED LOVED MY HAIRCUT and will be returning to see him. He picked up on the tension and asked me what was wrong initially and i just said that i felt bad about what all happened. So after reading the Yelp reviews I booked an appointment with Winter for both cut and highlight. I was looking for a drastic change and GOT IT! Finally! She layered the bejesus out of my thick heavy curly hair and did some great chunky blonde highlights that didn't look either too freakish or too conservative. A good friend who travels for Loreal has been my stylist for 10 years so she had a tough act to follow and did a superb job. Definitely would recommend her if you want the weight taken out of your hair and/or you have curls that can be hard to manage. I found both the atmosphere and the staff to be incredibly laid back (even when the owner showed) and even fell to sleep in the shampoo chair. Like that I wasn't hustled for a ton of product either. I get what I need for free and don't need people pushing me to buy to boost their commission...didn't happen here. read more

The staff was friendly and easy-going. I walked in and asked about getting my gel off - which only costs $10 - and they called in the nail aesthetician who arrived less than 15 minutes later. She did a very thorough job, although when she filed my nails for me several are a little lopsided. But in general, excellent customer service, soothing but not extra atmosphere, and reasonable prices for good service. I do wish they had a menu of services available so I could have per used more easily, because I had time to kill today. read more

Lets just say I've had trouble finding the razor over the the winter and it was time for some spring cleaning down stairs, I was tired of always shaving and ingrown hairs, so i thought to myself... hmm I need to try waxing as I never gotten anything waxed before besides my eyebrows. I purchased a you swoop deal and decided what the hey, I scheduled my appointment and mentioned I got a you swoop deal and the nice lady and the front made my appointment. I came a little early to my appt. and the receptionist had me sit in the orange and black cute waiting room with magazines, oranges, and tangerines, and water with real glasses! when my appointment time came Susan was punctual, professional, and greeted me with a handshake. I was led to the private room which was kinda like a doctors office but not as cold, Susan's esthetician licensed sat proudly on the wall so I knew I was in the hands of a professional, she noticed it was first time and explained what was going to happen and went to work I got the full brazillian and full legs she used hard wax and NEVER DOUBLE DIPPED!!! which was a sanitary plus for me! can I say the waxing was completely painless... no but on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the worst it was a 3-4 I also took aleve an hr before my appt. so I guess that helped too. Susan was fast and methodical and after I was done I didnt have to get carried out in a wheel chair also I took the precaution of sweat pant/ loose clothing so my skin could breathe. I cant wait to go back she met me in the front and we set up my next appt. in 4 week. I went home NO INGROWNS OR IRRITATION and I couldnt decide on to ge fully bald or not so Susan made a cute small triangle I love it!!! Meh. Well yet another bad haircut. Since I am new to Chicago I read yelp reviews for hours before deciding to go to Fringe. I was thankful they were able to squeeze me in at short notice but I should have known better, stylist without appointments on a Friday afternoon should have been a red flag. Stephanie was not the friendliest, and really struggled to crack a smile. Maybe I caught her on a bad day, I didn't mind that she was quite and a bit grumpy as long as she did a good job. I told her I no longer shampoo my hair I use baking soda and apple cider vinegar. I explained my process and why I have stopped using shampoo. In our chat I mentioned the no shampoo about 3 times, I told her I wanted only conditioner on the ends when she got it wet but please no shampoo. She seemed to get it and then we talked about my cut, I had avoided a cut for about 3 months longer then I should have so I needed an inch or more off. We got over to the washing station, everything seemed to be good... Then, wait what was that? Shampoo! Her logic was well it's very delicate stuff no paraffin no blah di blah, erm who cares it's still bloody shampoo! I really tried not to react, since it was already in my hair there was no turning back. So after the shampoo incident we went back over to her station, where she proceeded to begin my cut in silence. I had my phone out and was texting, so I didn't really mind the silence. When she started to correct my head to be straight because I was looking at my phone for entertainment I put it down because I didn't want to end up with a wonky hair cut. Soooo awkward, no chatting whatsoever! So I had to ask her about her pregnancy to hear some sort of noise. Lady it's me you and a mirror, we have to have small talk. She then proceed to tell me about her husband and how great her family was. Which is lovely and I'm happy for her, but usually in a polite chit chat conversation you receive and ask questions. She was really not interested in me at all just her self, but I do know that she is going on holiday to Mexico where her family is from for a big wedding and did I mention her husband and family are really wonderful... Dying of over sharing boredom here! As soon as the scissors were put down I got my phone out to entertain myself. She kept harping on about who knows what. Thankfully blowdryers are loud. Now for the haircut... Well she certainly did take two inches off the longer layer and about one inch off around my face. I look like a deranged soccer mom with a strange mop cut. I mean I think a woman in the suburbs would be offended by my hair. It's not what I wanted and I look terrible. So thanks. The only saving grace was that since I am a new customer the cut was only $38 Upon exiting she walked me to the counter and asked if I needed any products I said no, she just turned around and walked away. No goodbye, no lovely to have met you. I got nothin. Besides learning to cut and style curly hair I think this woman needs classes in how to be polite and also how to hold a conversation. The girl at the front desk was sweet and asked me how it was, to which I avoided eye contact and said it was ok. So I will never be returning and I am sad I must wear this on my bloody head for the next couple of months. Her customer service is top notch -- always checking in on where we left off last appointment, following up on my plans/work/relationships. Amber transformed my hair. I had been gradually trying to get very blonde ends and during my last appointment the stylist put too much toner in my hair and took off all my years of work. I decided to take a break and let my hair grow out, and then I decided to try Fringe and I was not disappointed. Amber walked me through the whole process, and did an outstanding job. I now have my gorgeous blonde ends again and I'm going back to her in a few weeks for a touch up. Which by the way I now have to do less because she's so good at what she does. Tried out a new stylist after my original one left the salon. During my first visit she put a glaze in my hair. My blonde looked green she washed it out immediately and charged me anyways. I told her I take a long time to lift. Didn't listen and walked out of the salon 4 hours later unhappy. I came back for a color correction. She fixed it but seriously I could have done without the arguing. Questioning the return...such a shame. read more

Ok... so I'm pretty impulsive and decided the night before making the appointment at Fringe that I wanted to cut all of my hair off. I made the appointment not knowing which Bob or Sally was going to cut it off and style it. Luck would have it, I got Adam. He is certainly the most adorable man in Wicker Park. He was running a little late, but was considerate and had the receptionist call me to let me know so I wouldn't be waiting. When it was time for chopping off the hair, he ended up being very sweet and more excited than I had been for that particular style, which calmed me down immensely (as I was having second thoughts in the chair.) But he is definitely amazing at what he does, and has made a new client outta me! read more

I love this salon. I repeat: I love this salon. I will admit that part of the allure is how easy it is to get to (I live right around the corner, but it's also very close to public transit and has reasonable parking in the area), and of course the fact that you can reliably book appointments online, but the part that really made me choose this as my go-to salon are really Keith and Cali. I've been going to Keith for my haircuts for about a year now; when the stylist I had been going to broke her arm the day before I had an appointment scheduled, Keith seamlessly took on my appointment so that I wouldn't be inconvenienced. It was a great show of teamwork and was much appreciated on my end. From that first day, I have always been pleased with his results. This is no small feat, either; I'd been growing out an ill-advised bob (thanks a bunch, 2009) and gracefully dealing with the uneven and awkward "growing out" phases takes some talent. Keith is relaxed and amiable, which are both big wins on their own, but he also remembers the fine details I mention to him. Also, he's honest. In addition to the bob, I've also been growing out some almost-sorta-kinda-my-hair-color-but-slightly-lighter color and while it would have been easy for him to get me to dye it again (bigger cost, bigger tips), he reassured me that it was more "classy ombre done on purpose" than "shit, she totally hasn't had her roots done in like a year." I appreciate that. Cali is the aesthetician I've been going to for over a year. She's got a wonderful, bubbly personality and an absolutely magic touch when it comes to facial waxing. My light, sensitive skin generally doesn't play well with hot wax and I've always dreaded the pain that came along with waxing -- I feel everything! I am not sure how she does it, but I swear to you that I feel significantly less pain at her hands than I have with other places. She's also consistent and has a great eye for shape, definition, and creating brows that are even and a good shape for your face. My only word of advice: be sure to bring cash for the tip. The salon takes credit cards to pay for services, but as of my last visit you can still only tip with cash. read more

Fringe is great. Sanjoy cuts my hair - who has given me the one of the best haircuts I've ever had. He's never gone scissor happy on my hair like most hairdressers tend to do (even when he told me that I would look good in a pixie haircut) and actually listens to what I am looking for in a haircut while giving me his professional feedback. Haircuts are on the pricey side ($61 - I think because he is a senior stylist), but I am happy with my hair and I think it is worth it. read more

I LOVE Fringe. I can't imagine what went wrong with CJ's visit, but this place is becoming the go-to salon for everyone I know because Tanya has a cool aesthetic and does an amazing job. I've been so disappointed at other salons --- even if I do get a good cut or color, the next time they'll mess it up. This place is really consistent. I've found that other hair cutters/colorists seem to require that you baby them through every step of what you want them to do with your hair. I didn't go to beauty school and I have no idea how one would go about creating a certain effect. All i can do is describe the overall picture that I want to see and hope that they can pull it off. Usually it's a disaster but Tanya always "gets it". I wanted to go blonde and envisioned some sort of very beachy version with darker roots and giant blonde sections that look like I spent a decade in Maui and the sun and sea did the work. I knew it had to have lots of levels of color and should gradually get lighter from the roots to the tips and the undersections would be darker and the outer parts would have more blonde sections. I knew this would be a bit tricky to get right but when I would talk to hair colorists they looked at me like I was talking Swahili. It was surreal. In Vegas, the woman at Paris Las Vegas literally just said she didn't understand at which point I just left the salon because our communication disconnect was so scary. At Art + Science on Milwaukee, the girl tried to do it and it was so awful I cried and my friends told me it looked hideous -- which I already knew. I had dark brown hair with yellow pin stripes in it. I had to just dye over the whole thing. Tanya, on the other hand, took the same direction and ROCKED out my hair. Swoon. There's a mass of healthy shiny locks of purple on my head and it's thanks to the amazing Amber that worked hair magic on me yesterday. I had wanted to get an appointment with her after I saw my coworker's hair and about died because it was gorgeous. I got Amber's name and salon phone number where she worked and booked an appointment right away. I told her I wanted a pastel lavender purple hair, I just knew I wanted to leave purple! I did have some doubts if it would be possible to do in one sitting, especially since I have long black Asian hair. But Amber sat me down and said you're in good hands. Honestly, I'm at the point where I'm confident to say no other hands will touch my hair. She talked me through everything she was doing and checked on me repeatedly to make sure everything was going along well. I love her excitement for her work, it definitely kept me calm because this was such a drastic change for me. After the bleaching process in which I saw how healthy my hair was still, I just gave her artistic license and told her she can play with the colors however she wanted, but just keep it to purple tones. And it turned out better than I could have imagined! I'm so in love with this look. Everybody was super friendly too! It was rainy that day and I walked in soaked, but the receptionist up front was kind enough to ask if I needed a towel to dry up. It was such a nice atmosphere to walk into. It's a little out of the way for me because I live around Lincoln Square, but I've found a keeper and I'm done shopping for my go to hair salon. read more

I also got the Living Social Deal for the Brazilian and Eyebrow Wax. Least painful wax ever!! I was so surprised- no pain! No pain? Seriously and I have been waxed everywhere... I would say for the price, the lack of pain and the results? Life changing and more than worth it. I am not planning on going anywhere else from now on... I will say with hard wax there is a stray hair or two but I have also had that problem with the soft strip wax and the strip wax is painful and has made me bleed/ bruise and cry. It helps if you can wait 5 weeks between waxing- 2 weeks is not enough! Go to RoseAnne- she is personable, quick, efficient and best of all- PAIN-FREE. Seriously guys, pain free!! read more

luv my new hair by Christine..... seriously, I am (whispering) when I review this place - I do not want too many people to discover her so that I have to stand in line for an appointment. Christine gave me a fresh, sharp cut, and just the right black color to make me feel whole again...she's also a great conversationalist and laid back enough not to get you worried in her chair, but serious enough about what she's doing so much so that you see her focusing on her skill. I've had my hair done twice in 9 weeks and will follow her advice, getting a cut every 8 weeks to keep things in order upstairs. Great salon, excellent products, and fab stylist. She's mine. Aron, Aron, Aron! He's wonderful. I've been going to Fringe for over 5 years. Tanya was my wonderful stylist until she became a full-time organic farmer. You can buy her goods at the Logan Square farmers market. Tanya recommended Aron when she left. Over the years l let my hair get really long. Then last summer I told Aron to cut off the requisite 10 inches for a donation to Locks of Love. Since then we've gone shorter and are up to 2 colors plus the grey touchup. So I speak from several experiences with Aron that he is very very good. Great colorist and really takes his time on the cut and is very creative but not too far out there. I look forward to a long-term relationship with Aron. read more

I really dislike giving bad reviews... but I just had to say something about this experience. I worked with Keith. He's super nice and very attentive, but, unfortunately, I just don't think his skills are up to par for thick wavy asian hair. I had very long, thick, unruly hair and wanted to get about 6 inches chopped off for the summer. I'm a busy student and usually like to keep my hair low maintenance (air dry with some product). My hair is naturally wavy, so it looks decent with air-drying. I brought in a couple pics of the hairstyle I wanted and showed Keith. The girls in the pics had layered hair about 4 inches past the shoulders. Instead of cutting off about 6 inches of my hair to match the pics, I had almost a foot of hair chopped off. My hair was maybe just past my shoulders at this point. Initially, I thought, fine, whatever, my hair has been this length before. I can deal. However, as the cut came to an end, I realized that not only was the length too short, but the bottom of my hair was still SUPER thick. I always ask for my hair to be thinned out with those thinning scissors because I just have so much thick hair. However, when I ran my fingers through my hair after the cut, the hair on the bottom felt like it had been chopped straight across with no thinning/layering/texturing whatsoever. It looked decent coming out of the salon, but after showering the next day, my hair literally looked like one of those poodle cuts that puff out at the bottom. Not only that, the right side of my hair was actually a full inch and half shorter than the left side! I spent about an hour trying to fix my own hair at home afterwards, and the only time my hair looks decent enough to wear down is when I blow dry and straighten the snot out of it (otherwise I wear my hair in a ponytail daily now). Needless to say, I will never be coming back here. Sorry to rag on you, Keith. You were very professional, maybe you are just not meant to cut this type of hair. For comparison, I've visited many popular Chicago salons in the past: Twisted Scissors, Marianne Strokirk, Art and Science, etc. and have never disliked a cut as much as I dislike this one. I usually don't get cuts too often, but I will be visiting another salon shortly to get this cut fixed. read more

Perhaps my hair issue is more complicated than most clients that they have gotten in the salon, and perhaps my color stylist wasn't well versed enough for the task, but I feel that he didn't quite understand what was needed and made decisions and did things that seemed to make things worse. He never seemed to understand what it was that was needed and kept overcompensating. I have resistant grey hairs and a lighter level of brown didn't seem to color them when he first applied the hair color on my roots. I also have fast growing hair, so that my roots need to be touched up every two weeks. The color was too light the first time and didn't cover the resistant grays, so the next time we decided together to do a darker brown at the roots but add highlights to disguise the grays for when they grow in. He didn't touch up the highlights at the roots the second time around so that I had dark roots and then the grey showed prominently as they grew in, and he didn't do a glaze (which I asked him to do to tone down the highlights - but he refused for some reason that made no sense) so that the next time that I came in my hair was orange. When I asked him to add a little ash to the same level of glaze color that he used last time to prevent it going orange he said that he didn't like ash. He didn't communicate with me what he was doing next, but decided on his own to cover the whole head with a much darker glaze, which then was too dark, then the highlights were totally obliterated and I was back to square one, with an overall dark color that didn't disguise the gray roots for when they grow back in. I asked him if we could come up with a plan that would works. After washing may hair several times, some of the highlights started to show again, so we decided, together, to do the roots again in the darker color that covers the resistant grays and then re-add highlights at the roots and extend them to some of the highlights that were showing farther down towards the ends. I guess he used the lighter level of color on my roots instead of the level that covers the gray and then when he highlighted some sections they matched the root color so that my roots were light and the rest of my hair was dark. It was a fiasco. When I contacted the salon owner about correcting the problem she said that he was bending over backwards to help me, and kind of blamed it on me, and not on his bad communication or poor choices. She did say that she would refund my money, but said that they couldn't correct it and that I should go elsewhere. I came here about a month ago for an up-do. They were helpful in getting me the time I needed because it was sort of last minute, and I needed to look pretty for getting MARRIED at the county court that day! Since it was more of a "lowkey" wedding, they didn't charge me for their bridal up-do, so it was $65+tip (no Groupon). The girl, who later told me was Polish, was helpful in helping me pick a style since I don't usually do my hair up because I have massive amounts of long and thick Asian hair. We made small talk and I was trying to be calm since I was going to be married in a few hours from then! The salon was completely empty short of one woman getting highlights a few chairs away, so my friends/bridesmaids were hanging around, occasionally getting closer to take some photos. While I understand that people hovering around you while you work isn't ideal, the stylist SNAPPED at us, in a very stressed tone of voice, "Can you please get back?! You're stressing me out!" Knowing that it was the biggest day of my life and seeing that I was a bit anxious, I expected at least some professional courtesy to instruct my friends in a calm way to retreat. It was pretty tense after that and she asked of my opinion on the style with an attitude of impatience. I was only critical of two small things, and she fidgeted with it halfheartedly. Kasia at Fringe is one of the best colorists (I get blonde highlights/lowlights) I've been to. I started going to her when she was an apprentice at a Lakeview Salon because -- well, she was cheap! I followed her to Fringe and found that the prices are really reasonable compared to other city salons I've been to. Something cool that Kasia told me about is what's called a gloss or base bump. It's only $25 - $35 at Fringe depending upon your hair length and lets you go a bit longer between highlights. Saves you some substantial $ over a year. Thanks, Kasia! read more

I'm going to preface this review by stating that I don't know much about massages. I haven't had many and was a little nervous about the whole process. Lena, however, was great. She's got a very calming, warm presence and can instantly put you at ease. She's pleasant to talk to but isn't too chatty. Most importantly, my months of stress and soreness melted away within 60 minutes - I felt like a wet noodle walking out of here. It was lovely. I had the most bizarre experience here yesterday. I booked with the owner (Dawn) through Yelp to see Dineen at 5pm. The owner did not ask me what service I was looking for, I just asked her who I used to see for color, and she said the stylist I used to see wasn't available but Dineen is and she is great with cut and color. So I booked. I arrive at 4:50, Dineen tells me there is no time for color...so I asked why did Dawn tell me I can come in at 5pm, she said she isn't sure. Great, I just drove 40 mins in rain for nothing. I clarified that I wasn't looking to color but I wanted some highlights, she said there isn't time for that either. So I asked if she could at least do some highlights around my face and if I liked the color I can come back for an ombre with that color, she said yes, she can do that. My hair was wet a little from the rain so as she picked up the dryer to dry my hair, I told her I had recently gotten a terrible haircut and I want to make sure we are both on the same page before she mixes the color. As she brushed my hair, she saw what I was talking about and then said she is just going to fix the layers a little to give my hair more flow. I DID NOT know this meant she is going to charge me for a full haircut, I did not even get shampooed, it was just some quick dry trimming around the layers, but no, at checkout, I learned that I had to pay for a haircut....and this isn't the end of it. She got done with trimming the layers and parted my hair for the highlights around my face and told me she was going to go mix the color and will be right back. 5 minutes later the owner comes over and introduces herself and tells me she is going to do my highlights because she is faster. Wait, what??? 1) why couldn't Dineen tell me she isn't going to do it? 2) I have to start over again with her cause she wants a consultation before she does anything and 3) why would I want to do some 'fast' highlights??? So I said no thanks and got up from my hair. That's when I learned I had to pay for a haircut. A very confusing and shady experience. I would not go back. read more

I really enjoyed my visit at Fringe yesterday. I had actually gone in to get my graduated bob more defined and I was very pleased with the results. The staff and stylists are very knowledgeable of techniques and styles. I'm usually pretty nervous every time I get a hair cut because I know that they are somehow going to screw up but today I felt completely at ease. The other nice thing was that they didn't try to push products on you. Although I would have liked to know what I should use as a texturizing product...I would highly recommend this salon to all of my friends! read more

When you're craving a change, pick up the phone and make an appointment with Ludwig. He has the sense of authority you want when you're taking a chance, but no arrogance or attitude. A former co-worker told me about Fringe's Ludwig about five years ago and, after my first cut, I became a believer. As a working single mom, I needed a cut that would help me look professional and somehat edgy-creative without being too high-maintenance. Ludwig delivered with an easy-to-manage, long-layered cut that is professional, but unstudied. It's definitely styled, but it has a soft movement that requires a minimum of fuss in the morning. Another important aspect for me is that Ludwig's cuts have staying power. If your busy life doesn't allow you to stay on a regular haircut schedule, your Ludwig cut will stay looking great even as it grows out. Ludwig is also a fine person. He's wise, tolerant and has some astute observations about the world. Our conversations have gone far beyond tiresome salon chatter. The whole salon experience at Fringe is great. Its recent remodel has transformed the place into a hip art gallery atmosphere. Everyone is friendly. Oh, one last thing, The Fringe shampoo techs have been, without exception, fabulous. They truly are skilled at incorporating massage techniques into the shampoo that leave you feeling relaxed and ready for a great cut.. read more

This is a review for the waxing service. I came in with a groupon type deal. I was like 20 mins early and they took me in right away. Everyone at the front desk was super nice and courteous. It was a breeze! So I was taken back to meet Roseanne. She was also super nice and courteous. The service was quick. I won't say painless but that's kind of the deal with waxing. She did a great job. Her room was very spa-like and clean as well. On my way out she informed me of another deal which I took her up on. So I will return! read more
