I took my nephews to Froberg's Farm yesterday for their watermelon festival. Upon arrival we walked through the store. They have a lot of great produce I was excited to purchase on the way out. They have a lot of watermelons piled high in large cardboard crates. Understandably with it being watermelon season. My nephew picked one up and one of the stacked watermelons dropped and fell on his toe. He was upset for a minute, but totally fine. Although the watermelon that fell was cracked and dripping juice. I took the broken watermelon to the front to let them know it dropped. I then had to purchase the broken watermelon for $12. I was in disbelief. I told them I couldn't carry it around since we were going into the festival. I was not offered any help or a place to at least keep the watermelon from going bad in the meantime. So I left it with them since I had no way of keeping it fresh, or keep it from dripping all over. Since my nephews were excited for the watermelon festival I paid the $5 entry fee for each of us, but once inside we only did the activities included in the fee. My nephews did have fun. They have a lot of great activities and it's a really nice place for a unique and fun day for families. However, I will never in my life spend another penny at Froberg's Farm after the poor customer service I received in the grocery store. I hope they improve the way they help customers when accidents happen. Even an offer to hold the watermelon in a cool place until we left would have been enough to make up for the bad experience, but we got no help at all. read more

Only 45 min from my parents house. It's straight down highway 6. Open daily and tons of strawberries. End of march is a perfect time to do a little strawberry picking. You have to buy a bucket $1 to do picking. Small price for a little fun in the sun. We actually got clouds and some wind while we were out. 35 min and 5.2 lbs of strawberries later, we were happy and ready for aircon. At $2.45 a pound, it was very reasonable. The little grocery store had a decent bathroom and it was nice and cool. We bought 3 fried pies to go. Blueberry cream, apple and blackberry cream. At $2 it's super yummy. My kids had a great time. My 5 year old wasn't strong enough to pull any out but she was good at directing me. ;-) Will have to come back next time we visit houston. read more

So I had a little staycation in H-town around April and decided to do new things everyday to feel like I was on a new adventure. It brought me to Froberg's Farm to pick some fresh strawberries right off the vine. I hear that's the only way to ensure a sweet strawberry. Back in the day (says my mother) fresh picked were so sweet; the ones in the stores don't hold a candle. I drove all the way to Alvin, bought a reusable bucket and picked to my heart's content. Some of those berries looked old but a good amount were red and beautiful. I picked quite a few lbs, paid (not expensive at all) and left. Unfortunately after I got home, washed em...I was very disappointed. They were hardly sweet at all! It was worth the experience of picking fresh strawberries off the vine but outside of an adventurous time, my tongue wasn't impressed. But again, go for the experience! read more

We came on a Tuesday and everything was mostly closed. All the was open was a duck race, pumpkin patch and the corn maze. They charge ten dollars during the week and it just doesn't seem right to me. I love Frobergs and have been a customer for years. I went in to get fresh green beans and new potatoes to accompany the roast I was making for dinner. Needless to say, I ended up buying the green beans and new potatoes I wanted, squash, lettuce, apples, cucumbers, onions, fresh eggs, cantelope, grape tomatoes, a large tomato, and I think I'm forgetting one other thing. But I walked out with 2 paper sacks full of fresh produce and only spent $24.00! You just can't get that kind of freshness from the grocery store (especially when all the produce goes bad in less than a week). I am willing to pay for produce that lasts, tastes fresh, and supports local farmers! If you haven't been, you MUST go! What a wonderful experience at Froberg's! I took my son, a friend and her daughter at around 10:00 am on a Tuesday morning during springbreak. There was constant traffic but it flowed and parking was a bit tough to come by but we found a spot. Once parked you walk into their small market shop where you get your buckets at a $1.25. There you are told strawberries are $3.00 a lb and each bucket could hold about 5lbs. Once outside you cross to the field and start picking! The strawberries were abundant and they ranged from tiny to humungous. I told myself I will only pick a few because really i was just there for the experience but low and behold I end up picking $12.00 worth of strawberries and we bought some candy and veggies in the market. I was surprised to find small plants, lots of green veggies, peanuts, jams, sauces etc. They have a bakery area filled with pies, and they even have fried pies. A small sign offered tamales for sale as well. But I didn't get to try any because they were all sold out. There are several fun activities for the youngsters outside that include a corn maze, and they but like I said we were just there for the strawberry picking. We spent about 2 hours just hanging around and picking then we left. Worth the experience and the weather was wonderful. Highly recommend as a fun stop. read more

My family and I have been customers of Froberg's Farm for almost a decade now! We come every year to pick fresh strawberries, enjoy their fried pies, buy fresh produce, and occasionally visit Greak's Smokehouse located at the farm. Strawberry Picking is a fun activity to do with family and friends. It has become a family tradition for us to go every year whenever March or April comes along. There are acres of land you can pick from and they've expanded over the years. It's also a great place to take pictures and just make memories. Their fried pies are the best!!! They are very affordable as well ($2). My favorite is the Strawberry & Cream fried pie. The flakey pie is filled with strawberries and cream cheese. They make them all day so you'll get them hot! The apple and the pineapple pies are good as well. They offer a wide variety to choose from. They sell a lot of fresh produce some of which is grown there. The produce is fairly priced and very fresh. Vegetable sprouts are also sold at the farm if you're interested in planting your own for only $1. Greak's Smokehouse provides a variety of smoked meats, such as, brisket, ribs, sausage, and turkey legs. It can get pricey, depending on what you get but the quality is there! They've expanded as well. Overall, Froberg's provides great experiences and food. They're open all year, so we're able to visit anytime for some fried pies, which is a plus for us. They've improved so much from when we first started visiting and I can't wait to see what else they have in store. read more

TIPS - Come early on a Saturday morning before noon to avoid the midday rush with families and their little kids coming in and the annoyance of parking. - Check on the website the day OF your visit beforehand to see if the strawberry patches are open. Sometimes they close the strawberry patches due to inclement weather or let the patches take a break from the crowds. - There will be bugs but they don't bite humans. - Wear a hat and/or put on sunblock because you'll be out there for at least an hour or two tops. - Definitely an Insta-worthy activity. - MUST HAVE BUCKET FROM FROBERG'S FARM: costs $1.25 and fits up to 5 lbs of strawberries ($3/lb), reusable (I borrowed mine from a friend). EXPERIENCE I went with two of my family members and two friends to the location, the farm itself not difficult to find due to road signs pointing in the direction. The employees guide you to your parking spot in an orderly fashion. The first thing we did was go into the main building where inside was a grocery store of different produce presumably grown from the farm, a bakery selling cookies, pies, etc., and also where we bought our buckets. The staff was friendly and helpful, and explained to us the rules of strawberry picking and what to expect with the season and the bugs as well. We saw many families come with their children and there were multiple activities and rides outside that were for small children, perfect for the whole family. This was the first time I've gone strawberry picking and it was a very fun and simple experience. Go more towards the back to get big, juicy strawberries since people tend to congregate in the front. I ended up paying around ~$15 for my 5 lbs of organic strawberries that were huge and ripe, and I personally felt like it was worth it. Be sure to rinse it in salt water for an hour or so before you eat it to clean the dirt off. You can also freeze the strawberries to be eaten at a later time as well, so you won't be so pressured to eat all of them right here right now. My family and I visited in the afternoon and it was a pretty enjoyable experience. Pricing was reasonable (about $12 for adults) , military discounts are available and kids under 2 are free. At night they have the option of marshmallow roasting/s'mores which you can purchase when coming in. There were also lots of Instagram worthy picture setups for families/children, pumpkins that you could take home, a corn maze, and a few other activities. I'd recommend that if you want to take pictures to come before it gets dark though. Inside there is a store and a separate part that sells meats and other types of food. The sausage was good but the boudin was NOT. Overall it was a cute little place for the family to spend time together and I look forward to making this yearly tradition. read more

Very disappointed! i saw this on the Thursday morning news and decided to take the kids on yesterday. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT for the news, or maybe just a misrepresentation of what to expect!!! Made an hour drive in hope of utilizing the amenities such as the Jumpling Pillow, the Apple Cannon, and the Trail ride, ( as advertised) to get there and theyre only ran on the weekends,!! What? Well maybe the News station should have been aware of this. Instead they're advising people to come on down on ANYDAY and have a great time. You claimed there is no rules and it is your private property and you can do whatever you want which including asking people leaving without reasons! Well if you did not charge me $ 10 dollars each person for getting in and $15 unrefundable token. I more than happy to accept that. BUT YOU ARE RUNNING A BUSINESS IN YOUR PRIVATE PROPERTY, you CHARGED my family $45 dollars to ask me leave without providing me any rules at the begining! You even claimed you can do whatever you want without following American laws. I have to say good for you ! I feel lucky my family were not KILLED in your farm since it is your private property and you considered you can do whatever you want to do! I need to sue the male who is in police uniform who asked me to leave your farm at 09-26-2021 at 4pm when you are also there in witness the whole thing and authorize that male to do that in front of my little kid. Also I called you and talked to you at 5:00pm on the phone on that day and asked for the male's name and police employee number but you claimed all the security guard are hired by you and worked for you then hanged out the phone call. I strongly questioned that all those security guard with hats on which showing "police" and the uniform on which showing "police" ARE NOT POLICE at all. Or they are off duty officer and taking a part time job as a security guard there to make money. If they are off duty police officer they are illegally have police uniforms to work there since you does not run police department and they are OFF POLICE DUTY. If they are just regular security guard they also should not wear police uniform there. So please kindly provide me the name and the contact of the middle age male who in a police uniform and asks me to leave. You hanged out my phone call and refused to do that doest not means you follow the laws to do the right thing. Again you are running business not squeezing and stealing money from my pockets! Here is my experience with this farm. Worst farm ever. If there is zero score I am more than happy to give it to them. Do NOT buy any token at the receptionist(cashier place) until you get in and really see those activities can operate smoothly and you really want to take. Coz all the token is unrefundable but the rules is very unnoticeable on their brochure. Firstly, poor organizing methods and horrible management. They have no signs to help kids and adults recognize the beginning points of the rolling rubber ties. Kids and adults did not know where to start and fighting for getting on the rolling ties without following who comes first who gets in first! Secondly, no sanitizer anywhere. For example, no sanitizer at the receptionist (cashier place the very crowded place) where most of the people get together. Thirdly, poor management. The above three reasons ending up we had a horrible memory there . We asked them if we can return the tokens to get the money back. The owner said no.I told her because their poor management and make people did not have any good time. She said she Do Not Want to Listen and it is not her fault and all the token is not refundable. Last but not least important , broken equipments still be used on some activities to make money! One of the activities which is riding a train to go through corn fields by using the fake gun on the train to shoot the target. The biggest fun is from using the guns shooting the target when people took an ride on the train to pass through the corn field. However, we sat on the train all the fakes guns on the train we're broken. How come the owner did not refund the tokens since they operate the farm in a horrible way? Wow! NO rides or games or jumping platform on weekdays! So for $15 per person your kids can play on a playground, dig in the sand where 1 of the only 4 diggers are working or they could have duck races where only 4 of the 14 water pumps are working, walk through a corn maze and pumpkin patch. Came today and purchased 2 buckets and sunflowers. We decided to walk to the fields and we followed the rest of the people walking. The "guard" waved us on because we had wristbands. All of a sudden, this steroid-jacked guy jumps off the back of a tractor and starts screaming at us that we are going the wrong way and that we needed to walk literally around the entire property only to wind up at the same entrance. The "guard" even said it was ok because we had wrist bands, but the other guy continued screaming at us in front of a trailer full of people. He got on his walkie talkie and called the cops because we weren't being "compliant." When we got back into the main store, the employees did not apologize for his behavior and refused to refund our money. Will not return. read more

My most favorite farm for strawberry picking! It's HUGE and clean. Huge is an understatement, actually. You can never get tired or enough of strawberry picking. The only downside is that it can get quite muddy. But when you're getting delicious strawberries, it's totally worth it. Just avoid picking the ones with white tops because they're very sour. They are available every day of the week. Parking is on gravel and crowded, but it was never a problem for us because they have extremely friendly police officers who direct you to open parking. The price was 2.49 per lb when we went during early March. The price changes throughout the seasons, however. The bucket to put the strawberries in costs $1 each, but you can save them for next use. You don't have to buy them every time, just save up old ones! I saved the best for last: they have a bakery inside the Farmer's Market with patio seats. If you go here, you HAVE to try their sausage. It was amazingly good! And of course, can't forget about their pies. Check out my photos for them. One of the most delectable pies I've ever had in my life...and I hate pies! It's not too sweet, perfectly creamy and baked. Definitely not bland either, the flavor stands out a lot (in a good way). My personal favorite is lemon. 5/5 for an amazing farm. read more

The fried hand pies are legit. We tried the apple, coconut, and blueberry cream. My favorite was the blueberry cream. When I go back I plan on ordering allllll of the cream pies! They had herbs and plants for sale as well. They looked healthy and were very well priced at a dollar each. I picked up three globe basil, one parsley, and one sweet basil. For the you pick strawberries you have to purchase a bucket. They tell you to make sure you bring the bucket when you come back so you don't have to keep buying new buckets. Then you go out to the fields and start picking. There were plenty of ripe berries. We had a bucket filled pretty quickly. Then you take them back to be weighed. They cost 3 dollars a pound. Our filled bucket was just over 12 dollars. Although they cost slightly more than buying at the supermarket (and you have to pick them) they are worth it! They are as good as my mothers home grown strawberries! Absolutely delicious. We will be back! read more

I went to the Greek smokehouse today and asked for some jalapeno sausage, turkey sausage and boudin. I asked for 4 links of turkey sausage and when I got home I discovered that they gave me 9 links. More than double what I asked for. I specifically asked for 4. So they decided to take liberty with my money, my hard earned money and made a financial decision for me. My family ( me and two kids) visited Froberg's this morning for the fall festival. I was astonished to see that there were no precautions in regards to corona virus. The amount of people was insane. People in lines INSIDE the store were not socially distanced, and we were demanded to put bracelets on in that tiny area between cashier and outside door. People literally breathed at each other's neck. No sanitizing stations anywhere. Not really serious about requiring masks even indoors ( I saw the sign but there were many people without - it did not seem to bother any of the attending personnel). No sanitizing of the plastic eyewear in the game area ( the one with the weapons). I wanted to give my kids a joy of farm experience but I am sorry it was unacceptable. It was as if time turned back. Like in good old times! Except can we really afford that nowadays? My son is a cancer patient and I know, I should not have set my foot there today but it would have upset him greatly if we just turned around so I took chances. I pray we got lucky today. read more

Then you come back in and pay for it by weight. It's that simple. Very fun for about 20-30 mins of time. The rest of the time we spent shopping at their little farmers market section, eating their freshly made fruit pies (I highly recommend), and visiting their smoked meat house (I bought a turkey leg their for $9-which was good and cheaper than you would get at Disneyland). There's so much fun to be had (for all ages) and I don't think it gets any simpler than this.. Buy an empty bucket (which can be reused on return visits), head out to the strawberry field, and pick to your heart's desire. Simplicity at it's finest!! Yeah, it's a little out of the way, but it's a farm and you can score on some of the freshest, sweetest, and juiciest strawberries. Much better than the store bought containers and they last longer. After you're done picking, head back inside to get them weighed and explore the market which has some other great produce items, flowers, snacks, and some of the best FRIED PIES!! They have different flavors daily, but they usually always have strawberry cream. They are fried fresh there and are so good and hot. So go ahead and cheat on your diet, it will be worth it. Other than a little traffic issues once you drive through the gate (which are slightly controlled with officers) I don't have anything negative to say about Froberg's. Thanks to my sister that invited me to come out to the strawberry farm, I now find that this is the best way to pick your strawberries and have them last up to three weeks. A wonderful way to bond with family and friends. You get to pick your own strawberries for about the same price you would pay for in a grocery store except you get a bucket to fill up. Once your done you'll make your way to the old fashioned market.. So much to look at and taste. The fruit and veggies here are fresh and taste fresh as well. I got some huge oranges that were sweet. Since I had been looking for honey I decided to try their natural honey and it is so different from what you get at the grocery store. They have bags of almonds, popcorn, dried fruit and beans. You will not be disappointed at all. I purchased some beet chips that were a great healthy snack nut not so much on the amazing small pies made on the spot. You will know what I'm speaking of when you make your way to this huge strawberry farm. The checkout lanes were busy but got you right out to a picnic area with tables. They have a tiny market where you can get sausage, pork and other snacks to eat there. They have sinks to wash your hands and portable restrooms. So here are my tips when visiting. Wear sunscreen ... it gets hot out there. Wear tennis shoes vs. Sandals.. it's windy and sand gets blown everywhere. What an experience! My first time in a strawberry farm. I am so glad my boyfriend brought me here. I came a day after Easter Sunday to avoid the crowd. And before noon to avoid the Houston heat. You pay what you pick. $2.35 per pound and can be paid with cash, credit card, and checks. Inside the store, they have farmer's market of locally grown vegetables, nuts, rice, beans, desserts, and much more which you can also purchase. When you walk out to the field. Make sure you stand in the middle of the field and smell the air. Oh my goodness the sweetness of strawberries in the air. I can't believe how amazing the smell was. I love it! There are rows and rows of raised beds covered with black plastic. The plastic are formed each year, fumigated, and to prevent weed growth and erosion. We spent about 2 hours picking the big ones. The further you are from the crowd the bigger the pick. I like to pick the reddest, shinest, and largest ones. I was being a picky picker. There is a shoe washing station, if you step into a muddy puddle. I had dirt between my toes because I wore slippers. There are places to take pictures. And there are port-a-potties around for restrooms. Our bucket was not filled to the top. We picked about 3.5 pounds ($8.22) . Weigh your strawberries inside and get a price sticker. Take your bucket and pay for your pickings. You need a price sticker or else cashiers get cranky! I had a sticker on my bucket, but yet my cashier was irritated "Ugh did you get your bucket weighed?" Rude! I turn the bucket around and she says "Oh!". Scanned and payed. I went home and tripled washed them. And it was so sweet & delicious!
