It should not have taken this long for me to finally eat here! But alas, we finally got a taste and were SO SATISFIED that we ordered takeout brunch again the next morning!! I got the chicken biscuit with gravy. The chicken is breaded and fried to perfection, on top of an open biscuit with gravy and an over easy egg (also cooked to perfection). My husband tried to hollandaise and we both vote the gravy is better! The maple description of the gravy scared me a little, but it didn't come thru too much and so it was an excellent gravy. Our kids got waffles and we tried them- they're absolutely delicious! The fruit that comes with them (blackberries, strawberries & blueberries) was a great portion and super fresh! After many recommendations I was really let down during our visit during Masters week. The waitress kept reminding us that they were understaffed. She repeated my order yet got it wrong. I ordered honey butter chicken and clearly received regular fried chicken. My chain wanted to order a half chicken all dark and she couldn't fulfill the request. Although the 1/4 dark was cheaper. He ended up ordering two 1/4 dark meals. The sauces were also watered down. Ranch, honey mustard, and chimichurri were all watered down. The eggs were lack luster just like the service. I ate all my chicken, but I really wasn't a fan of the greens. They were too tough and not the silky smooth I grew up with. My husband and I made a Valentine's Day reservation here for 3:30pm because we go to bed early and live on the other side of town. (It's Wednesday!) The Cinnamon roll was good and a unique, maybe croissant type dough, though I thought the bacon was a little weird and too smoky if you got a bigger piece. Deviled eggs were divine. Cons: Cold, but delicious waffle. Like how could the chicken be too hot to eat (no complaints here) and the waffle was so cold it was as though they took it out of the refrigerator. I couldn't even get the butter to soften, much less melt. (I used the hot chicken pieces to melt the waffle butter!) The Music was way too loud to hear my date / have a conversation. My husband and I came on Friday afternoon for an early dinner so we could take advantage of F&H's happy hour! Happy hour of course has several drink discounts, but we were excited about their snacks being 1/2 off! We got the Fries with Gravy, an order of Hen Egg Rolls and 10 count of wings split into two flavors :Alabama White BBQ and Hen's Peach Jalapeno! The wings were juicy and had an amazing crispness to them! The Alabama White BBQ are light & full of flavor. Hen's Peach Jalapeño which has a nice kick with a natural peach flavor. I also requested two bowls of their amazing soup to take home for tomorrow and our server Natalie made sure it was ready as I was boxing up our leftovers! (Side note, this is an amazing soup to eat at any time, but esp if you are sick! 10/10!) FYI-MIL was so excited about the soup, she ate it as soon as we got home! Little did I know what was in store for me! We were fortunate enough that it wasn't busy at this time of day. The manager Kenzie, had taken pictures of their newest coffee special *arriving to Frog and Hen soon!* And rather than throw it away, she gave it to me to try! The newest drink is called Snickerdoodle latte! Normally I need a lot of sweetener to drink my coffee, but this beverage was balanced, rich & flavorful and didn't need anything added! Good food, happy employees and amazing atmosphere-what more could you need?? WAIT!! I KNOW! Have a party at F&H with our co-workers! I was able to work with Kenzie to get the get together on their books with an alternate date should we need to reschedule. Kenzie and Natalie have such a light about them. You can tell they love their jobs. Even if we hadn't fallen in love with their amazing menu when they opened, (which thankfully we did!) their amazing customer service and personal joy would bring us back again and again! We had dinner here last night pre-Thanksgiving with the fam at the request of my baby sister. She and Mom have been here a couple of times for brunch and raved excessively about it. As I suspected, they are owned by Frog Hollow Tavern (FHT) downtown, which is a favorite spot of mine and my wife's. We've only had good memories at their restaurants, and Frog & the Hen was no different. Reservations were made, parking was free and ample, and I understand they also do takeout orders. The vibe here is more laid back than FHT, which is more upscale and business casual. This food is spectacular. It is Southern. It is hometown. It is rich. It is Augusta. There is love poured into each bite. The cheese biscuits are fluffy, warm, and delicious. The service is very much in attention to detail and you feel like you are dining at home. We also ordered The Hen Egg Rolls to start which they label as "snacks." They were so good we had to have a second order. They come with a delicious dipping sauce. For my entree, I had to have the chicken and waffles, and they do it beautifully. I never care for bone-in chicken with my chicken and waffles or similar dishes. I like to able to install cut my chicken, grab the slice of waffle, and sop up that warm maple syrup without having to wrestle with a bone, and I'm so delighted they use tenders instead of bone-in chicken. That already won me over. I added on a side of FHT collard greens and the delicious Mac and cheese--both of which added the sumptuous soulfulness to the meal. Now, that chicken, bruh, served hot and crispy yet juicy and well-seasoned, has got to be somebody's Grandmama's recipe. We're planning to return again for brunch, likely after church one Sunday. Called the day before for a reservation, and they said they were fully booked, but if we show up at opening then we can try to get a seat. Cue a party of 5 heading to this place at 10am and being seated immediately. I was very impressed with the service! The waitress was new, as she mentioned she wasn't very familiar with the coffee menu at the time. But she was still really sweet and always made sure to top up our waters very frequently. I got the special: cinnamon roll waffles. I wasn't prepared to see four halves of a cinnamon-swirled Belgian waffle show up in front of me, drizzled in cream cheese and topped with a ball of whipped butter. It looked absolutely glorious and tasted even better. It wasn't too sweet; I actually wanted to dip my pieces of waffle into syrup for enhanced flavor. The portion size was very generous, and I found myself struggling to finish the plate near the end. I also got a 12 oz Hello Honey coffee, which had espresso, milk, Augusta honey, and vanilla. I thought it was way too sweet, especially when paired with the waffles. I still finished it because I needed my caffeine fix, and I liked the flavoring, but I didn't enjoy the overall coffee drinking experience. Years ago I spent some time in Canada. While there, I discovered poutine. Poutine is french fries and cheese curds swimming in gravy. French fries, cheese, gravy, how could this not be good? I haven't had good poutine in many years. Then I decided to try the Frog and Hen. There in their appetizer menu was French fries and gravy. The description included cheese curds. They didn't call it poutine, but that's exactly what it was. I won't go into a long string of superlatives, let it suffice to say you gotta go try the French fries and gravy (poutine). The restaurant itself is clean and bright. The service staff are all friendly and attentive. The wife and kids were all well pleased with their orders. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! from food to service, I was blown away. The CinnFull coffee was delicious and perfectly sweet without being overwhelming. The egg rolls, deviled eggs and Mac bites were fun and yummy! The banana Foster French toast was perfect and not too sweet even with the house made caramel all over it ! I've come here multiple times already with different people to eat brunch here and it never disappoints. Fried Mac and Cheese Balls: 6/5 i dream about these. Please get them. But leave some for me, they better not be sold out when I go again. I love them. The cheese they use is phenomenal, it's perfectly crispy, the macaroni is there but not strangely so. Amazing. Salmon pasta in wine sauce and veggies: 5/5. I forgot the actual name but this was a nice dish. Not too heavy, but hearty and filling. All the textures and flavors were balanced well. Would get again. Chicken Pot Pie: 4.5/5. I loved it. Super good. I have only good things to say. But I forgot most of them. Holy heck. I got lost in the sauce. Chicken and biscuit: 4/5 it was kind of small for the price. I stopped in Augusta on my way to Charleston and found this place by reading the reviews on Yelp. When I walked inside, an entire group of friendly employees welcomed me with big smiles on their faces. Hope, the lead hostess, answered all of my questions and demonstrated real Southern hospitality. After looking over the menu one more time, I decided to be seated on the outside patio. I decided to try the fried Mac and Cheese bites based upon all of the positive reviews. If you show up early, they have Happy Hour specials where the appetizers are half off. Allison suggested trying one of their popular traditional chicken dishes, so I ordered a quarter of fried chicken with two sides. The fried Mac and Cheese bites were delicious. They had a herb encrusted crunchy exterior with melted smoked Gouda and cheddar Mac and cheese goodness inside. They came with a savory Calabrian Ranch dipping sauce. The fried chicken tasted like the quintessential Southern fried chicken. The interior was super hot and juicy. The exterior was crunchy and flavorful. Allison brought me a side of The Alabama white BBQ sauce to try with the chicken. It's vinegar based flavor goes well with the chicken and buttered mashed potatoes. I've never been a big fan of biscuits, but their biscuit appears to incorporate cheese and is paired perfectly with the honey butter. So, while this may not be one of the historic critically acclaimed BBQ places in Augusta, it's definitely worth trying. I've been here twice now. I really try to give places the benefit of the doubt. The first time was probably a year ago. We sat outside. Waitress was pleasant but it took forever to get our order and when it finally came, my order was sent plain instead of with all the special stuff that made it what it was. I went again yesterday and sat at the bar. The bartender was sweet. I had 2 bloody Mary's and left without even a hint of a buzz. Mind you I also had an empty stomach. Once again, it took forever for our food. After 40 minutes, they decided to tell my friend they were out of what she ordered. By that time my other friend asked for his order to go and they proceeded to make all of our stuff to go. I tried my chicken sandwich when I got home - less than 30 minutes after receiving my food - inedible. I couldn't even bite through the chicken. The bread was tough. No wonder they sent it to go, I couldn't ask for my money back. I spent over $50 and got literally nothing for it. Since moving back to the Evans/Augusta area, this has been one of my favorite spots. It's great for a group of friends meeting for brunch or just for me to grab something at the bar solo. Checked this place out for their Sunday brunch last weekend. We had eaten at Farmhaus Burger a few times and the last time noticed a pretty big line and following for the Frog & Hen so wondered what we were missing out on. After reading the positive reviews we made a point to check this place out instead the next time we were in the area. We also learned that both restaurants share the same owner. I ordered the chicken and waffles because I love a good chicken and waffles dish and this one had rave reviews. I really enjoyed the dish. The chicken was great : plump, moist and great breading. I also really appreciated that it is made with chicken fingers. As a comparator, the metro diner has an excellent chicken and waffles but uses half a chicken so you have to work a bit to eat it and remove bones etc. (still worth it). So I do like this one better in that regard. I do prefer a little bit of spicy with the sweet so the siracha they have a metro gives it a little something extra. Next time, I'll have to ask if they offer something similar at Frog and Hen. Additionally, the strawberry butter at metro is a nice match for the waffles. All that to say, while I have had chicken and waffles at lots of places and everyone makes them a little different this one ranks in my top 2. Hubby got the chicken biscuit with gravy and enjoyed his meal as well. Our waiter was Brooks and he was super helpful. We told him it was our first time and he explained to us all the other restaurants by the same owner including a couple that are opening up soon.
