My colleague had recommended that I visit the Frog's Leap Winery, because it was "fun". Well, she had that part right. The beautiful balcony offered patrons the choice between casual rocking chairs or proper high top tables with stools. The tranquil setting was extremely relaxing, and tours of the land were also offered. The wines were accompanied by tasty snacks, such as pretzels and cheese. However, the wines themselves were pretty terrible. Many were acidic and lacking body. I was truly disappointed with the Frog's Leap Winery. We came here while visiting family in Concord, California for Christmas. Because my husband and I are from Dallas, Texas, we wanted to experience Napa Valley, but we had two toddlers in tow. Frog's Leap Winery was the perfect place for families. There were six of us in the party, plus our two toddler nieces. We each had a wine tasting. They brought us out roasted almonds and cheese to cleanse our pallets in between tastings. My favorite wine was the Cabernet. I am a dry red kind of gal and the Cabernet was just my style. My husband and father-in-law favored the Chardonnay. All in all, the tasting was really enjoyable. Our host was incredibly knowledgeable and went out of her way to provide an excellent run down of the winery and the wines. Frog's leap is a beautiful facility. They have a gorgeous inside and an even more impressive outside. We had brought a picnic lunch, in hopes that we would be able to utilize their gorgeous garden. However, we were informed that they did not have the proper permit for a picnic. Nonetheless, we had a great afternoon and wouldn't hesitate to return again. read more

Frog's Leap for us was an "okay" experience. Definitely a place we would never revisit. Wine was not great by any means, probably the worst wine we had. It's a pretty ambiance but nothing breath taking. There was plentiful seating on the property and the gardens, ponds and outdoor space were beautifully manicured. I'll return in a heartbeat. The people were so kind. Beautiful winery! My group visited this winery the day after an earthquake made its way through the Napa Valley area. We weren't sure if they would be open, but didn't want to be no shows for our morning reservation. When we arrived, the owner and his dog, Abby, welcomed us from the doors! They ultimately did end up having to turn visitors away later in the day as they had no electricity and were having trouble obtaining a generator. As the first group of the day, they ended up accommodating us with a modified tasting which was so kind of them. They did put us to work and allowed us to help put out seat cushions along the beautiful porch area! Normally, the wine tasting includes some light bites, but due to the refrigeration issues, ours did not. We sampled about 5 or wines, most of which were reds, again due to the refrigeration issues. Our hospitality hostess was very knowledgeable on the wines and shared a lot of background on the winery as well. The winery also has a working farm. As the owner said, if we were stuck there, we'd be able to survive off the farm for quite a while! We spent a nice while sipping our wines as well as wandering the grounds, which are gorgeous and include the grape vines and some farm and garden areas. The main building itself is also lovely, and fashioned like a big house. I enjoyed wandering around a living room area, which has some mementos related to the winery's history. It included labels from the different bottles of wine which were pretty neat! We loved spending some time at this winery and their hospitality was unmatched! read more

This is one of my favorite places to take guests. Reservations are needed, but if it's during the weekday you should be fine calling in the morning and getting one same day. We normally schedule a late afternoon tasting as a "wine down" to the day. The farm house style tasting room has a wrap around porch where they sit guests. If you have a choice, I'd recommend the benches as it's a little cozier and perfect for four. Note, don't plop down-the cushions aren't as fluffy as you think. Tables also give you great views. if you get cold, there are these blankets to keep you warm. It's definitely a winery with an at-home feel. Tasting comes with complementary cheese, crackers, nuts and jam. They encourage you to take your time, enjoying the backyard view of the garden and hillside. Take your last glass and walk through the property (gardens in the back, fruit trees to the side, chicken coop just behind that, and then the vineyards behind it all). In addition to wine, you can also buy their jams, honey, and hot sauce. You may even get a chance to see the owner's dog, Abbie. Enjoy! read more

Frog's Leap is my favorite brand of wine and we were so excited to visit the property since covid. To celebrate my husband's birthday we made a reservation for a signature seated tasting for four, and we were extremely disappointed in the level of service we received. First, my parents were greeted by a receptionist who was very unfriendly. They arrived 30 minutes early and my husband and I were caught in traffic from the rain and arrived 8 minutes late. The front desk was extremely pushy with our parents and threatened that if our party didn't arrive within the 15 minute grace period we would lose our reservation. It was weird to us because this was really not a warm greeting. No welcome wine was offered how we have experienced in the past at other wineries or even water. They were very pushy to stay outside until our scheduled time despite the rain. Then what we really thought was ridiculous was that after we were seated a host didn't come to our table for 25 minutes. We booked this tasting to really be educated on the property and the wine because we seek out the wine at local wine merchants and wanted our parents to learn more about wine history and different wine varietals. We were really disappointed in the the wine educator that served us and his lack of knowledge of wine. He seemed unsure of himself, spoke very low and did not annunciate well, we had to ask him to repeat some things. He was wearing a mask, which was not an issue at all for us, but this did not help the situation. Additionally, all of our pours were super tiny and inconsistent, we asked for a blanket for my mom and he kept forgetting, he didn't know any answers to the questions that we had about John and the history of the property and overall didn't seem knowledgeable. We could overhear other tastings where the wine educators were sharing so much more information than he was giving us. For example, we overheard the other table receiving ways to pair wine, information on flavor notes and tastes, and he didn't share specifics on any of the wine we tasted other than what kind of wine it was. We made a purchase of 6 bottles at the end, and their jam despite the poor customer service. We were rally hoping for a nice experience, as our last visit pre-covid was so much more enjoyable and the tasting fee has become pretty costly. If Frog's Leap wants to become a more exclusive and less approachable winery than you really need to step up the customer experience. I'm giving 2 stars as the wine itself and the upkeep of the grounds is the only worthy part of our visit. read more

I like the grounds of the winery especially. They had many apple, pear, and peach trees, as well as raspberries and other fruits. I picked some apples from the tree, they were red and ready to be eaten (by me!) . The raspberries were not as good cuz they are not getting enough water. I'm not into wine so the wine tasting was standard, $15/person for 4 wines, Chadonay, Zinfadel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. I don't really drink wine, but the Zin was nice, with a strong vanilla fragrance. You walk to the back, and get the 4 cups at your own pace. You can either choose to sit or walk around the premise. Went to Frog´s leap Winery on my last trip to the wine country and I loved it. I am not sure why I never visited this place in the past and now for sure it is one of my favorites vineyards in Napa. It was a Saturday morning in the beginning of July 2017. The drive up to the main building was impressive and gave that authentic feel. There are plenty of parking. So yeah, everything was very great......but the views is what got me. A small pond on one side with mountains and hills as far as the eyes can see in the other direction. Nice breeze too. Wine is excellent and even thought this is an expensive tasting it is worth to try it. We walked in and there was a few people inside and out. The pours were generous and the wines were very good. Staff was nice as well. I can´t wait to go back to this magic place. I felt like home. read more

If I could award this a 4.9, I would. The ONLY drawback was that everything that was poured is something I could easily purchase at any wine shop. Even just one "winery only" addition would've been great. I've had their wines plenty back home and thought I might as well swing by to get to know the winery. The grounds are gorgeous and it's definitely a more relaxed scene at the winery vs every where else in Napa Valley. The pourer was super, super knowledgeable. The Sauvignon Blanc was darn tasty. And I mean like a very clean, tangy, aromatic yet textured wine. I think Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc can often be looked over. But at Frogs Leap man oh man is it good. The Chardonnay was absolutely DIVINE. Believe me when I say this has to be up in the top five domestic Chardonnays I've ever had. AND THE PRICE ON IT IS *INSANE*. Imagine pure green apples, flinty and flowers like Jasmine and Orange. What I adore is that they're not about the oily, sinewy over oaked style. Granted a few producers around here have mastered that style (which you don't have to twist my arm for me to drink) but I'm not too hot on drinking the mass produced canola oil that's rampant. Frogs Leap Chardonnay is juicy, crisp, lively, mildly buttery and I mean that in the lightest sense. It's definitely the winner of the wines I had. The Merlot was pretty good- again, especially keeping in mind the price. Super chocolate-y, dusty (in a good way) that's simultaneously rich yet refreshing. It's something that I could imagine with a lamb burger or even a solid bratwurst. The Rutherford Cabernet was stunning. Not the faintest bit of prune or jam or that tomato leafy flavor I've found at a few other places (ahem another certain winery in Rutherford). It was fruity, but still classically structured. It was balanced with tannins not sticking out too much, with a good freshness to it if that makes any sense. So much so that I think it would make it a prime candidate to add to a cellar. The Zinfandel was a shocker to me because a few producers where I'm from (Central California) pick those poor grapes when they're borderline raisins. The end result is in every sense of the word a not very tasty rendition of a port fermented to dryness. Zinfandel is not high up on my list of favorites but this one was surprising because it wasn't a cesspool of jam and sugar. I know there's another producer out here who makes a dessert Zinfandel (but it's sold as a "dry" wine) that I cannot stand and this was nothing like it. Super fruity yes, but still fresh, vibrant and a nice after taste. I'm not a big fan of Zinfandel but I could see myself enjoying this wine with a burger. I considered joining the Fellowship of the Frog (pretty catchy phrase) until I saw that it included some base wines that again, I could easily purchase back home cheaper and would kind of void the whole reason of a club. If there was a way to join the club but skip those wines that would've been great. But don't let that cloud your time or ruin your experience. I'm just one person of many that thoroughly enjoyed the wines of Frogs Leap! I look forward to returning for one of their elevated experiences! read more

Every time we come to visit Napa, we go to this winery because we love the scenery, the people, and of course the wine. We had a reservation. DIdn't know what to expect with COVID. As we checked in, we were given wine to taste while they set up our table. They poured the whites first and JOSH was our host. We had lots of questions and he knew the answers to everything and even more. He is so educated about Frogs Leap. He made the experience a memorable one. They gave us a snack basket to enjoy with the wines. Of course, we always wind up buying a case to ship back. I also love the fact that this winery doesn't charge a fortune to ship their wine to you. The reviews are true. This place is a great stop full of local fun and a family feel. The customer service was great. We loved seeing the farm and garden on site, as well as, could get up close and see how some of the processes went. The workers were very knowledgeable about the wines they were serving and where their vineyards were located. They even told us we can get a cab grape off the vine and oh was it delicious! We did the garden tour. This tour is pretty much and on your own thing with 4 wine samples. We loved it because we could walk around and stay in different parts of the farm and chat. To describe our visit on Sunday November 22nd in one word: Magical. We were greeted with a splash of a refreshing still Rosé and relaxed in the gardens while our table was prepared. The gardens were gorgeous and well-maintained, setting the tone for a perfect experience! We were escorted to our table where our host France greeted us; she was so informative and flexible, making sure to give us the exact experience we were hoping for. The wines were pre-poured, waiting for us at the table alongside some yummy cheeses! All of the wines we tried were fabulous; it was really difficult to choose between them because they were all so good! After not visiting this property for over four years, I'm thrilled to say that we will be coming back much sooner. Worried about Covid-19? The experience here will put you at ease, making you almost forget about the fact that the world is burning. Social distancing, face masks, metal furniture (easy to wipe down between guests), and hosts that stand at a respectful distance! This was a lovely and relaxing experience - we had a table on the porch overlooking the vineyard and were given our time to enjoy all of the different wines. Everything was beautifully presented, and the winery itself is beautiful as well. This is a great deal for $25, so make reservations ahead of time to make sure you get the seated tasting. They even give you a small cheese and nut plate to enjoy with your wine. There isn't a lot of commentary involved - it's more about enjoying your company and taking time with your wine. For 'tis nobler to taste the fruit of the vine in splendid isolation, far from the maddening crowds; or perchance to plant one's feet in the rich earth and walk outside with others suffused in bright sunshine, while birds, bees, and unseen amphibians do flit about on invisible currents of air? The immortal bard I am not. But then again, William S.of Stratford-upon-Avon didn't post pics on Yelp of his latest trip to Napa, either. Frog's Leap tours bring out the inner artist in you. They are led by highly educated and genuinely kind individuals, who walk with you through the vines, the gardens, the orchards, the barrel rooms, the bottling lines (when in operation), and the fermenting facilities, then sit down and pour more wines. They loan you brimmed hats to shield your face from the sun and carry little wicker baskets with bottles of Chardonnay and Zinfandel, which they will tip into your glass at several stages of the tour, all the while asking and answering questions and more generally acting as sources of useful, funny, and cool knowledge about the winery, the winemaker, the wines, and their low intensity recipe for success in ultra-competitive Napa. It's an award-winning formula that includes dry farming and organic vineyard practices, along with native yeast fermentation when possible and minimal dosages of SO2 (a preservative added to virtually all wines to permit bottle aging and transport). It means picking fruit 2 weeks on average earlier than many others in the area, to preserve a food-friendly fruit-acid-tannin balance. It means being kind to the plants and animals and insects who still call Napa Valley their home, along with the people who live and work here. It means making great wine at affordable prices that will age gracefully for years to come, while also rewarding more immediate enjoyment. To be sure, this is a fairly tall order, but being a pioneer in the valley's wine-making revival in the 1960s and 70s surely helped. It secured for FL prime Rutherford real estate, which it continues to occupy and run independent of corporate control or aggressive expansionist pressures. And it is now into a second generation of family-led winemaking, with a reputation for attracting young women and men interested in wine to intern or work at FL as part of their professional development. The more you know about the winery's backstory, the easier it is to appreciate the across-the-board, excellent wines: Carneros Chardonnay, Rutherford Merlot, Cabernet, Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah, estate-grown Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc, and various offerings at other times of the year, depending on how many bottles are left in stock at the winery. It is not a huge range to choose from, compared to Rhone specialists like Tablas Creek in Paso Robles or Alsatian and Burgundy winemakers in the Anderson Valley or Sonoma coast, but by Napa's exacting standards, it's a lot to love and at prices that make purchases of a few bottles practical on your visit. If you are coming alone, or for the first time, or love being outdoors, or taking pictures of California wine country, then reserve a spot on the tour. It is a modest $25 waived only with 6 bottle purchase, but the cost includes a tour that can last almost 2 hours and include generous pours (with optional refills) of 4-5 wines, and no pressure to get up and leave unless it is near closing time. The tours are popular. Ours included 8 people, 4 of whom were celebrating new weddings or major anniversaries, so the atmosphere can often be very festive in tone. This isn't a competitive tasting environment, and there are no hard sells. If you are lucky, you might even get to sample older or off-list wines, as I did on this visit: a stunning 1990 Frog's Leap estate Cabernet, still bursting with ripe fruit and acid after almost 27 years of life. One member of our group compared it to Lafite Rothschild from the late 1980s, it was that good. How often does something like this happen at the other big name places in Napa? Plus,the estate is gorgeous in winter, a true example of what makes California the Golden State. At Frog's Leap, they make it seem effortless. Even if it quite clearly is not. This recommendation did not disappoint! We were able to get a reservation for the same day. Reservations are required, but you'll understand and appreciate why once you're there. Staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable. We did today's signature tasting with the addition of tasting rosé and the blend with the purchase of etched glass for just under $75. It was well worth it! The cheese, cracker, dried fruit, and almonds were perfect for the 2 of us. We really enjoyed all the wines. I loved that their rosé had a watermelon-strawberry hunt for summer, and Phil was pleasantly surprised by their Chardonnay. We both thought the merlot and zin were close ties for their reds. The grounds site is SO beautiful! Plus, you get access to anything you wish to see! There is this thing called the secret handshake-you should ask your waiter what it is when you go! I feel kinda bad rating Frogs Leap a 3, mostly due to the fact that we came here after a sensational visit to Stags' Leap (my new all-time fave), so this experience was somewhat eclipsed by a phenomenal experience just an hour prior. To be honest, my sister and I didn't even want to leave Stags' Leap, but after 2.5 hours, we were quickly approaching our 1pm reservation at Frog's Leap. We also hadn't eaten since breakfast and were in a rush. We stopped at a nearby bakery and got tuna sandwiches. Since I was driving, I figured "Oh I'll just eat it when we get to Frog's Leap." Well unfortunately, when we walked in, our server told us she couldn't let me have food because they didn't have the appropriate license. Ugh I wanted to cry! Not their fault--I get it, but it again made the experience not as enjoyable because I was starving (and drinking wine isn't that enjoyable when you're hungry!). We were seated out on the spacious deck. I really liked the actual location itself. It's like a nice big country estate with a large porch and open seating. It reminded me of Duckhorn a little with the big porch seating (although I do like Duckhorn better). There are no heating lamps here like Duckhorn, but luckily there are big comfy blankets around. I just used one of those to cover up my legs (it was a tad chilly in early March when we went). We paid $35 for the Signature Seated Tasting. It was a Monday in March and really not crowded at all. There were maybe two other parties on the porch. I forget our server's name but she was nice. Nothing against her, but I just felt like it was all very "cookie cutter." Like everything she said was practiced and repeated over and over again. There was no authenticity with what she was saying. No animation or energy. Given that we had just come from a tour and tasting with a very animated and lively host, this was just kind of letdown. The wine was good but I couldn't tell you what we even had or which one was my favorite. Nothing stood out as memorable. Although, I do like that you get some free snacks with the tasting: crackers, dried berries, cheese and almonds. I was very appreciative because they offered to refill the plate for us since they knew I hadn't eaten lunch. So to be honest, for the snack plate and four tastings, $35 is probably a better deal than most in Napa. We also walked the grounds for a little bit after our tasting. They have a nice estate and it was pretty. We also saw someone with a dog, so they appear to be dog-friendly. All in all, I wish I could rate this a 3.5. But it just wasn't really a place that wowed me, felt like a very "cookie cutter" experience and the wines were not memorable. I would recommend it for someone who is traveling on a budget to Napa but who wants a good flight experience and an aesthetically pleasing location. read more

We absolutely LOVED our experience at Frog's Leap. We went to 5 wineries (big names) during our trip and this was by far our favorite. We were there celebrating my Mom's 60th birthday. My 12 year old daughter was with us. She participated in a fun soda tasting, and we even got to pick a few raspberries! Our host, Laura, was so delightful and knowledgeable. We did the garden tour which allowed us to walk through the gardens and the winery at our leisure in between sips. Frog's Leap Winery, with a $35 back patio wine tasting, is a wine country lover's, shoot-any decent human being's, ideal afternoon. Frog's Leap Winery is tucked away off the main road, has spacious garden grounds for strolling, and a beautiful, quaint home that serves as its tasting grounds. What's even better, however, is their flexibility and service. 7 of us were allowed to do 3 tastings, there was no end to their cheese/nut/craisin/cracker plate refills (no outside food allowed), and our server had a WINE button-up who was very generous with extra tasting and "splashes". It's a picturesque, quiet, cozy, intimate tasting experience. We walked away with two bottle purchases because we were so chuffed with the service! read more

Frog's Leap winery may have one of the most beautiful grounds I've seen in all my trips to Napa. Along with their beautiful views and gardens, their wine and pairings were delicious. Lucinda guided us through our tasting, and was a joy to spend the time with, sharing her knowledge and fun Napa Valley experiences. We went to Frog's Leap when visiting wine country. All of my friends raved about it, but honestly, I was underwhelmed. We showed up about 10 minutes early and they told us they weren't ready for us yet. We sat inside until they were ready, which was about 10 minutes after our appointment time. I was surprised they didn't offer us any tastings because every where else we visited offered us tastings while we waited. Our host was knowledgeable, the wines were good and had a good price point, but it wasn't my favorite winery by any means. There was also a large group that was drunk and very loud, almost to the point where I couldn't hear my table mates talk. Nothing was ever said to them, even though the staff was obviously annoyed by their noise level. read more

For a last minute-first time trip to Napa valley, this was our first stop. This winery was picture perfect- what I have always envisioned what a winery looks like! They do offer a guided tour of the grounds twice a day. We did our tasting on the back porch and it was so beautiful and homey and for two women who don't know too much about wine we didn't feel out of place or uncomfortable. It's a bummer that I do not remember the name of the lady that did our tasting but she was amazing and knew her stuff without coming off pretentious at all. The tasting does include a small plate of cheese, nuts, crackers, fruit- perfect size for our tasting. Hearing about their history and how they are family-run and the explanation of "dry grapes" was all very interesting. When she poured out 5th tasting we could not resist their rosé and were welcomed to roam the gardens and visit their adorable chicken coop. This was such an awesome and memorable first stop that we will be back for a guided tour next time to see what goes on in their red barn and to learn more about how they operate being organic. read more
