The food here is pretty decent for the area. Its my feeling that there arent really a lot of good Italian restaurants in that part of Montgomery County. Theres certainly no shortage of Italian places all serving the same exact thing, thats for sure. I mean if a hundred restatraunts are buying their calamari from the same distributor, then how different can it really be from place to place? A lot of these reviews say the same thing. That the food is overpriced. It is. But isn't that the case with ALL Italian restaurants? So I'm not gonna complain about the prices. I have no problem paying a buck or two more for food as long as doesn't taste like a can. As a vegetarian, I require some slight accomodation. All I ask is that the servers know whether the sauce is cooked in veal bones, and if so, can they whip me up a make-shift primavera with some FRESH veggies and pasta? The result at The Boot is always yes. They're friendly, accomodating, and usually dont lie or make assumptions just to rush me to order. I also like that the place isn't full of loud drunks doing barstool coaching for the flyers game like so many Ambler places do. They keep it family friendly, and I dont have to ask for parmasean 3 times like I'm the only person to ask for such an oddity in an Italian restaurant. I like it. You probably will too. read more

The food and service were very good. The hostess said there was no table when clearly there was. When I pointed it out, she said people don't like this little table. It was perfectly fine, so she seated us. My only other complaint was we each ordered a small Caesar salad with anchovies listed at $5.00 on the menu. There were 3 anchovies on each salad. When the bill came, the salads were $7.50 each. They said there was an upcharge of $2.50 for the anchovies. I found that to be outrageous and think that it should be noted on the menu or mentioned by the server at the time of ordering. read more

This was our first visit to From the Boot and likely our last. Since it's an Italian restaurant, and I'm a celiac, I previewed the menu and it looked like there would be things for me to eat. Looked promising so when we arrived, I asked the hostess if there would be gluten free options. One of them looked at me in horror, the other said that every menu item is made to order, no problem. 45 minute wait. Ok. (BTW, couldn't make a reservation, only available for parties of 5 or more.) When we sat down, I told the waitress that I'm celiac and asked her a couple of questions about an appetizer. We got the Caprese, and it was yummy. When we ordered our dinners, I asked a few questions to ensure my meal would be gluten free. I ordered shrimp scampi and she said what they do is sub out the pasta Until she put the food down in front of me - my jaw dropped. Literally. She walked away and we had to wait to get her attention again. We kindly pointed out that there were 4 shrimp and less then a cup of broccoli ... all for $22.(I have a picture, will have to upload it.) She said that the meal was priced by how much 4 jumbo (smallest jumbo shrimp I've ever seen) cost. I told her I was going to go home hungry and she asked if we wanted to talk to a manager. From her response, it seemed as if it wasn't the first time she's had this issue. Manager comes over and echoes the same thing, but states 'well YOU subbed out the pasta' to which I said 'I HAD to, I'm a celiac, I can't eat it!' We asked if maybe we could have another shrimp or two and she said no; actually yes, you can pay for more shrimp. She then offered to take back my dish. Or she could comp it. Unwinnable situation - either my husband eats alone and then I do, or I go home hungry. I chose go home hungry. I ate, and it tasted good, but I think it was ridiculous. I understand that pasta is more filling, they bank on that I'm sure. I would've been happy with more veggie. I was going to ask for rice to begin with, but didn't see it anywhere on the menu. I doubt we'll ever go back there. I would suggest for the manager to be a bit more friendly, and for the restaurant to be a little more friendly to folks who have food issues. Just because I'm a celiac doesn't mean that I don't want to eat. I want to eat good food, but not go home hungry. read more

Let me start with the service which was horrible we waited at the table for about 10 minutes before the waiter even approached us There was only 3 other tables occupied in the restaurant. When making the reservations we where told all they had available where high top tables but the whole time we were there I saw plenty of regular tables available. When my order finally arrived it was not even what I had ordered. Before we even got our meals they where already trying to push desert on us. We found out while paying that our waiter had a party he was serving in the basement area and that's why he was not around a lot. I blame Managment for the disorganization!! maybe instead of sending the first waiter we had home and giving his tables to the waiter who already had a large party on a different floor the xtra load.. I will say once the correct order was served the food was amazing. Tried this place last night for the first time after having driven by it 100 times. I must say I was pleasently surprised. I ordered the veal parm and it was very tasty and came with a side of penne pasta. The sauce was good but not great. My wife had the chicken margharita and love it as well. The portions were way too big for 1 so expect to walk out with food if you eat here. I gave it 3 stars because the music while not very loud was not what I would expect to hear at an italian restaurant and our waitress while ok tended to disappear for long stretches of time. All in all though I would eat here again. Well ate here again for lunch. The service was extremely SLOW. It took 2 hours for 6 people to have salads and 1 course and the place was not very busy. I am reducing my rating to 2. I think the place needs to reexamine their service policy and aim to get peoples food out to them in a more timely manner. read more

this restaurant looked so nice from the outside, and even the interior is nice. the service was fine, but the food was absolutely terrible. the bread we got before our meal was too greasy to enjoy. the servings are tiny, like child size, not adult portions. the food though.. I ordered the Bolognese sauce and it was awful: too watery for a Bolognese sauce. my fiancé ordered the chicken Parmesan and the sauce on his was a tasteless tomato sauce. terrible terrible food, the drink specials were honestly boring. the service was fine, but the only reason this place is still in business is because of their location. the food- terrible. don't waste your money here. :/ read more

This is definitely one of the go to places for my husband and me. Although Ambler is our favorite location we go to Blue Bell and Lafayette Hills as well depending on where we are. We love the food, garlic bread and caesar salad to start then frequently we choose one of the specials. Fish and seafood are always great. My fav on menu is Angel Hair Margherita, mmm delish! And you can add grilled chicken for a bit more. My husband likes Seafood Monte Carlo from the menu. We are never disappointed when we leave there and even if there is a wait, it is worth it! My college aged kids and in-laws like it too so it works for everyone. Ambler has a full bar and Blue Bell is BYOB. read more

Every other location I have given five stars but last night my dinner was meh. House salad was mounded with blue cheese, a little would have been nicer, left a big pile on the plate, it's about balance folks. Fusilli with sausage, broccoli rabe and roasted peppers had what looked like whole roasted peppers in it, personally I like bite size pieces in pasta dishes, you shouldn't need a knife to cut a pasta dish. Additionally the sausage was evidently boiled or steamed, rubbery casing and no browning from cooking, made it taste greasy and bland. My girlfriend had gnocchi with marinara sauce which for us is a regular dish whichever Boot restaurant we eat at, but this was sub par. The gnocchi lacked texture and bite, and the sauce was greasy and had tomato skins in it. Tough little twists of skin that destroyed the silky texture we normally associate with The Boot's marinara sauce. Maybe it was an off night or a new cook, but the quality was not what I expect from this place. Never had a meal before that was anything but stellar. Service was great, and my girlfriends clam appetizer was good, and the garlic rolls as always were to die for, but the other dishes, not so much... We will stick to Lafayette Hill for now on. read more

I dined at From the Boot on Saturday January 20, 2018. I was in the area house sitting and was looking forward to this dinner for a long time. I have been once before to the Ambler location and also to the Lafayette Hill and Blue Bell one. I've had great experiences all three times I've been. This experience was hopefully a one-off, but a disappointing one to say the least. This is my first yelp review but wanted to share since I was really annoyed and frustrated with the experience. If you ever go do not make a 9:00 PM reservation. When I called they had a 4:30 and a 9:00 so I opted for the later option. I wasn't seated until 9:20 PM and the second we sat down the waitress asked if we wanted anything to drink besides water. I told her I needed a minute to look over the menu. Once she departed the manager came over and she asked if I wanted to order anything to drink. I told her that we had just sat and I needed to look over the menu. Within a minute the waitress came back in a hurried manner and asked if we were all set. At that point I had to ask her what time they closed for the night because I was ready to walk out due to her rushing me. She told me they stopped serving at 10:00 PM. I ended up making an impulse decision on a bottle of wine which turned out to be fine, but I was really disappointed with the experience. Once the bottle was delivered from the manager she didn't introduce the bottle to my boyfriend and I, she just poured the glasses and walked away. Within seconds the waitress then came back and asked if we were ready to order. While this was happening the bus boy delivered a basket of bread. There was so much happening at once, I was immediately turned off from the whole dinner at the point and really wanted to leave but my boyfriend and I decided to stay and stick it out for the food. Both entrees were fine and tasted good. I am in no rush to go back to the Ambler location, and have told many friends in the area about our experience since it's a well known and loved place for a lot of us. I really hope the manager or GM reads this to implement changes for the future. It wasn't a cheap night out and would expect better service for what we paid. Our waitress, Deanna, essentially ignored our party. The restaurant was not full and we watched her go to other tables and show them photos on her phone, have conversations and check back on them before she came to us once. While our meal was very good and the food runners and other staff were on top of their game, our waitress ruined the experience for us, making us feel unwelcome and unappreciated. On the strong urging of a friend, I recently ordered The Boot's $32 filet mignon with roasted potatoes and red wine sauce. My friend cautioned, "It's expensive, but you will never forget it." Wow, how accurate! I also ordered a side of spinach which had been sauteed to perfect doneness in olive oil and it was delightfully garlicky. The filet was large, beautiful and cooked perfectly. Just hosted a rehearsal dinner in the newly remodeled, ( wine cellar atmosphere), private room. Worked with the managers, Bob and Illiana who could not have been more cooperative and helpful. We had several people with special needs menu's and it was handled seamlessly. My wife was given access to the room with plenty of time to make the evening special for our son and daughter in law. Food- Excellent, Service- Excellent, Bartenders- Excellent and personable. The guys actually helped us pack up at the end of the night. read more

My wife and I went to From the Boot's Ambler location on a recent Saturday evening in July. We had no reservation and arrived around 7PM. We were quoted a 25 min wait time and we waited about 20 min. The restaurant is on the small side with a bar, communal table and about 15 to 20 tables. The restaurant design is appointed nicely except for the horrible polka dot curtains. The noise level is on the louder side but I didn't have to shout at all but it's not the place to have an intimate dinner on a Saturday night if that's what your looking for. They have a small wine list with none of the red wine bottle's being priced over $40. They have four beer's on tap plus a full service bar. As for the food which is why you should go there to begin with it's very good Italian at reasonable prices. All tables receive complimentary garlic knots. We started off with the bruschetta which it seems everyone else was having as well. It tasted great and I like how they serve it in a bowl with all of the tomato topping in the middle and the bread on the side so you can add as little or as much as you like. The entrees were a good size (chicken parm & chicken francase) and tasted very good. The only problem we had was the service it great. Our entrees both came with a side of pasta but we were never asked what kind of sauce or pasta that we would want so we received spaghetti with marinara. Also the food runners tried to deliver our food to two other tables before ours. And our waitress never came by to see if we wanted another drink during our meal. My family and I went to eat at FTB this past Friday. We heard many rave reviews about the authentic Italian cuisine and the warm atmosphere. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed, and were unable to understand what all the hype was about. My family and a few close friends came to FTB during lunch and there was one other table in the restaurant at this time and no host or hostess to greet and seat us. We waited at the front for a few minutes before we were noticed and taken to a table. Needless to say we should have taken that as the hint.. For starters, our waitress seemed nothing short of miserable. Now to the food.. Not only did it take forever to come out of the kitchen when the restaurant was stagnant but it did not measure up to what we expected. The sandwich called the "Italiano" which my friend and myself ordered were both luke warm and the cheese was not melted at all. My husband got the veal Parmesan sandwich and it was well overdone and burned. Lastly, my daughter ordered the homemade gnocchi in a blush sauce and compared the consistency of them to mashed potatoes with no substance or real texture at all. We really hoped to enjoy FTB and make it a regular place to visit but sadly, we will not be back. read more

This is my first review and was compelled to after my experience. The food is bland. Easily the worst calamari I've had. Had zero flavor. Both dinners were without seasoning. Also my server wasn't very nice and only checked on our table once. We even we seated by their water station which she went to frequently. I would not come here again for overpriced "decent" food at best. The atmosphere is nice and the bar looks good if that's your thing.
