Great food, friendly service, and a laid back atmosphere. We were in town visiting friends and BBQ sounded good. It was this or Rudy's and Front Range said Cajun/creole in addition to BBQ. That made it our winner. Since it was a beautiful day we opted for patio seating. It worked out great since the patio has cover from the sun, but still plenty of fresh air. The table started with Fried Okra and Jalapeño Hush Puppies. The Fried Okra was across the table declared a favorite. The breading wasn't too heavy and had a great flavor. The orange dipping sauce was yummy too. The Jalapeño Hush Puppies were not bad, but didn't have the kick or flavor I expected. A little on the boring side. I went with a two meat combination plate for my lunch. My meat choices were pulled chicken and brisket. The meats were great. Both were tender and flavorful. The corn muffins were moist, but not very flavorful. The bacon potato salad was creamy and delicious. Collard greens were the special side of the day and amazing. The greens were perfectly prepared and the flavor was on point. I sampled my husband's red beans and rice and was amazed. They were seasoned so well with the perfect amount of spice and a nice amount of sausage. The restaurant offers three different BBQ sauces. The sweet sauce was my favorite. I loaded that on to almost everything. For those that like other styles they offer a mustard based and a tomato based sauce. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Having been born / raised in Texas, I have high expectations for BBQ and Front Range BBQ absolutely did not disappoint. This is one of the best restaurants in the city with a great reputation that they live up to. We visited this restaurant solely due to the fact that Guy Fieri had it a show of his and we are happy we gave it a shot. This is not a BBQ restaurant that is similar to one that you will find in the south, (ie cuts of meat and sides served on a butcher paper), rather each meal is carefully put together with outstanding flavor and a large variety of sides that will perfectly compliment every bite. The atmosphere of this restaurant is great, as it is not a fancy-looking place (which may deter some people away that are looking a good homestyle meal). With that said, it is also not a grungy place. As other's have mentioned, this restaurant feels like you are in someone's house. The wait staff is extremely attentive and great with recommendations. The menu has a large variety of food, so anyone (regardless of age or how picky they may be) is likely to find a meal that they enjoy. My recommendation, and something that I will always do here, is to order what the special of the day is. I have done this every time I have visited this restaurant and I have never been disappointed. The beer options are very large here with a variety of Colorado Craft beers, so if they is your thing, then this is a great place to visit. Late review. Big Mo, the crew, and I escaped the rain and ducked into one of the higher rated restaurants in Old Colorado City. The place had the classic atmosphere of a local small town barbecue joint decorated with random memorabilia, each of which most definitely had a story behind it. I decided to get the smoked brisket plate. I was a little disappointed since the menu didn't have didn't have options for fatty vs lean brisket. Overall the meal was solid. The plate presentation was appetizing. The sauces were unique and complimented the smoky, tender meat. The fries were made fresh. Interestingly there were no bread sides to fashion a small sandwich as you would at most barbecue places. The cornbread bites were yummy. We visited the Colorado Springs area probably 2 yrs ago and remembered a restaurant from that visit we hoped to find again. All we could remember was that it was in an old home (that I thought was blue) and it was delicious bbq. I think we found it. There were more tables and it was louder than I remembered even though we were there during the off season in the Spring, but the food was certainly good. I would probably visit if I was in the area again, but I don't think it would be at the top of my list this time. A very different, important, and local experience than, say, a BBQ chain. It has a very well thought through menu with great specials and overall probably the best BBQ I have ever eaten. And yes, I have been to The South! The atmosphere is like being in someone's house and they often have great musicians serenading you while you chow down. The staff always seem well educated on all the selections and always happy to recommend something new. It's hard not to eat BBQ without beer so they have a great selection there! I recommend this to tourists a lot because I think it's a great representation of a family owned Old Colorado City restaurant. There is even a cookbook available and the story of their recipes. Came here on a Saturday early evening. They were definitely very busy but the wait to get a table was only 15 minutes, not to bad. When we did get seated our server came to say hello, tell us about the specials and take our drink order. I ordered the mead and for my dinner I ordered the 1/2 rib and Kielbasa combo with Green beans and fried Okra. The wait for the food was pretty long but I understood because of how busy. I just would have appreciated the server checking in with us and telling us that the food is coming. Besides that. The service is pretty great. Everybody there was super friendly. It really seams that they all enjoy their jobs and it's so nice to see. When the food arrived I was very impressed how delicious and fresh everything was and such a large portion that I had to take the rest home. The cornbread muffins are incredible. An old house converted into a restaurant always makes for an interesting atmosphere, but this one just has a dirty/hole in the wall vibe. Off the bat the first thing that put me off was my menu, which definitely needed to be thrown out. I didn't say anything to our waitress, who was very attentive and friendly, but just looked off my friend's menu. We were seated in the front room around 11:30, and there wasn't very good lighting. The theme overall seemed to be "old" and "dirty". And sometimes the best food comes from places like that, which ended up being the bright side of the experience. Pulled pork was AMAZING. We might have had a different feeling if we had been sitting outside, but the front room needs a redo for sure. Paint was peeling off the wall, lighting was awful, weird artwork, felt cramped. Also- women's restroom.. probably the scariest restroom I've seen in a long time! The toilet itself wasn't dirty, but it's in a tiny, horribly dim and creepy room. There was a curtain on one wall and behind the curtain looked like a place you would keep your kidnapped victim! With a padlock and a dark hole eerily staring at you peeing- it gave me chills! Almost every place has their good and bad, and hopefully when you go the good outweighs the bad significantly, and thus you can give a good review. Unfortunately the bad was too much to overcome for me this time. The bad: The list isn't long, but it was a big deal to me: - Ribs had no flavor, my friend said as much about his before I could mine. Sucks when you order ribs. I didn't want to have to add barbecue sauce to them, but I did. - Fried onion things were mostly bread, as in I had crumbs of nothing all over my ribs. - The thing that set me off... I ordered two drinks, bourbons on the rocks, and without being told they charged me $1, for the ice, for each drink. I have never been charged for ice in an on the rocks drink ever. Not even living in Europe (where they may charge for ice in regular drinks) was I ever charged for ice in an on the rocks alcoholic beverage. As a result of that, I will never go back. Ribs flavor was excellent although the texture was a little bit drier than my preference... Also had really good fried okra and kind of a nice mix of styles in terms of barbecue. Partner had brisket which was only okay. Pretty happy with the ribs that I got... Generically ribs are what I get if I'm not in a region known for any other specific type of barbecue. Pecan pie was to die for and top two or three in my life. Biscuit texture was also not super and overly dense. I enjoyed the restaurant and food; however the staff was extremely unprofessional. Our table was near the bar and all the bar stools were filled with staff talking about how drunk/ high they were.
