I hate chain restaurants, I adore mom and pop places. It has been a minute since I have been able to do a little road trip to find a new place to enjoy the ambiance and flavor. I was not disappointed. The moment we pulled into the parking lot we were treated with vintage vw bugs. A very good omen. The menu is vast and it all sounded so wonderful. As we stood there pondering our choices I couldn't help but notice the cleanliness and the decide. But what instantly drew my attention was the food being handed out. No paper wrap. No styrofoam here. Real plates and real silverware. . But the mountain of mouth watering piping hot onion rings called my attention. The old hippy he decided on the lot o burger with fries. And I had the veal tenderloin with those onion rings. Of course we had to have two frosty mugs of the namesake. Frostop RootBeer. Now I am a patient person and I will wait for fresh hot food to be served. So I didn't notice the amount of time it took. But any wait at all would be well worth it. The food was delicious and took me back to my misspent youth. People I am telling you if you are looking for quality and quantity. This is the place for you. The cost was reasonable. The owners are friendly and patient. But the real reason to make the trip is the food. They are the leader in every category: cleanliness, ambience, quality, taste, customer service, and quirkiness. Brought my son and two friends here. They all ordered the burger combo and the famous root beer and I ordered the turkey club sandwich. It brought me back to when I was a kid when I tasted that nostalgic root beer. The onion rings were on point and so was the club. The kids did not leave a bite of their hamburgers, so it is safe to say they liked it and it was big enough for three teenage kids. read more

Again I stopped by they were hit bad by Hurricane Ida. But after about a month or 2 they are back and we. Love it. This a Time Capsule of a mom and pop diner food joint, they have all the classics and more. The onion batter is amazing give it try. Know what you want to order before you get to the window they don't have time for you to decide. I like the great service unless your wasting time. I had a delicious veal cutlet in toast dressed. "dressed" is simply lettuce tomato and lite Mayo. Good basic sandwich next time I would add a little mustard for me. Thanks for staying open and coming back. This was an interesting stop, but a good one. We came through not long after the last Hurricane's had hit and nearly missed the place because the Hurricane took out their sign. Happy we were able to find it and stop though, ended up being a really solid lunch. Chas got the "Crawfish Monica Pasta" and I got the "Hamburger Steak Po-Boy". This sandwich was not like any other Po-Boy I had ever had. The burger had a TON of onion flavor (which I love) and was almost shaped into a meatloaf style brick. The roll for the Po-Boy was crusty in all the right spots and soft as well. This was topped with a really delicious hot gravy, but then also came with Mayo, lettuce, tomato, and grilled onion. Truly a blend of hot and cold ingredients on the sandwich, but it all worked so well. If you're worried about getting messy, do NOT order this sandwich. It was a slop show, but it was fanastic. I tried the Crawfish Monica also and that was also very good. Very similar to a cream or béchamel with tons of chunks of crawfish tail. The flavor was good and the portion size was solid. Did I mention they make their own root beer and even have a diet option? I try desperately not to drink my calories so I got the diet and it was really good. We will definitely go back here again! Just to start the oil was clean the onions rings and fries were perfect cooked. The onion rings have a butter flavor that's out of this world hands down the best I've ever had!!!! My mom and I went to Destrehan today, and decided to stop by Frostop for a delicious old fashioned hamburger and fries. We are originally from Norco and I haven't eaten here since I was a young girl. The food was absolutely delicious, hot and fresh! The French fries were cooked to perfection and OMG the frozen mug of Root Beer, magnificent!!!! We went about 2 pm and the restaurant was busy for to go orders, but we were the only ones in the dining room. The lady and gentlemen taking orders were very nice and polite along with the other workers. The food took about 10 minutes to come out to the table, amazing!! The ambience is like a mom and pop diner and the best thing about dining in was the music. If you love the 50's and 60's...you are in the right place. Food is always hot and prepared to order. Roast beef is sloppy like most people like it. The burgers are nice sized and taste very good. Don't forget to get a root beer. I have also stopped by to get their banana milk shakes which hits the spot. Service is professional and quick! I'm not very fond of this place or a fan of the owner. The food is not that great, especially when they serve you old out of date salad dressing. The gravy and onions they serve on the hamburger steak is not appealing. The meat was pretty greasy as well. No free refills, no substitutions on meals and it's cooked his way or no way. This place is AWESOME! Best onion rings I have ever tasted in my whole life. I believe they are hand cut and made fresh to order. The crust on them are flaky yummy goodness and the onion is cooked all the way through. The fries are really good too, I steal some of my sister's fries. ROOT BEER was delicious. I am not usually have a hard time ordering anything other and a coke when dining out. Not here, I tasted my sisters once and I always order root beer now. The root beer is made in house. On my way to new Orleans to see my mother we stopped in La Place. This place I was told had good and greasy old time hamburgers. You can walk up to the window or go in and dine. They have burgers and poboys. We both got cheeseburgers and fries. They had the norm flat top grilled burgers. You can tell had a seasoned grill. The fries were hot and crispy. I stopped in after seeing an Great Places to eat segment in PBS. I remember drinking Root Beer as a child and remember having see to concentrated root beer mix in stores recently. In the segment, they featured the hamburger, onion rings, and root beer drink special. So, I had it. The burger was the usual, but the onion rings were better than I expected.
