Roadside burger and ice cream joint, halfway between Reno and Redding, which is a drive I make way too often, unfortunately (to me, once every couple months is too often). I'm new to Susanville and Frosty Mill is near my home. Like the "RC Cola" advertisement on the sign, very old school. I've been exactly 1 time and ordered a BLT and onion rings. The best thing I can say about the BLT is that this is how I would make it at home (high praise). Toasted bread, lots of bacon. Alright normally I put avocado on mine at home, and it was white bread, but still...everything a BLT should be. The onion rings were a decent frozen variety. I do appreciate that they had the oil at the proper temperature before dropping them in, so as not to absorb unnecessary oil. Nice and crunchy. I'd definitely go again...could live without the pics of dead deer on the walls, but hey, good thing I'm not a deer. read more

This is your typical greasy burger joint and has been around for many many years. The owner of the shop still cooks lunch everyday and will stop and chat with you if its not too busy. But the soft serve is amazing! Get it on a cone or try any of their specialty desserts and I promise you wont be disappointed. After the 5ish, things get kinda crazy around here. The owner is gone and all of the high school kids that he has working for him are, well, just that... high school kids. All of their friends seem to think its cool to take up the whole parking lot, and then go inside and take up all the tables. This is the only reason I gave 3 stars. Hurts to only give the Mill 2 stars . We stop on any trip through Susanville and will continue if they can show any effort of sanitation . I guess they don't have to go by any guidelines regarding COVID throughout the state . No masks along with no one even attempting to wipe down a table. The service is absolutely horrible. Don't come here unless you want to wait 1 to 2 hours. I came with two friends. The second friend didn't get her meal until well after we were done eating. When she finished eating we spoke to the people next to us who waited well over an hour and then we're finally told that they hadn't even started their order yet and they lost it. They make a mean banana split and their malts are delicious. Nice wide straws for the shakes and two plastic spoons for the split is just what is needed on a hot summer day. The facility needs work. TP is on top of the tank. Not where you would expect to find that. Spider food at the base of the windows. It's an old building and I'm sure there is a great story. I've eaten here before and loved the food. That said the service continually gets terrible each time. I can deal with a long wait time for food when it's busy. I've worked retail before and understand that stuff happens sometimes beyond an employees control. This was not the case today. 3 young women. One cooking. For 20 minutes I was the only customer in there. 2 of them chatting. It took them 20 minutes to come back and tell me they were out of fish sandwiches. This is a great, old-fashioned burger and ice cream place with a lot of variety and helpful, friendly staff :) Some locals directed me here when I mentioned looking for a good fast food place that's not a chain restaurant. They have a few items that are hard to find at other places (like deep fried pickles, mushrooms, and zucchini sticks) and you can get grilled onions on your burgers! This is a great little place to get a freshly prepared real food. Great variety on the menu and great prices. The service was good and welcoming. Where do I start? This place has the qualities to be a good place to eat, but with my third visit, I haven't been impressed yet. Every time, its taken 35-45 minutes to receive my food. Today, 12/23/2018, it took my party almost 45 minutes to get all of our food, while multiple orders after us had already been called and left. Upon getting our food, my wife found hair in her burger. The girl at the counter didn't apologize for the inconvenience and told my wife it would be 25 minutes for her order to be replace due to multiple orders infront of her. An employ had a child running a muck in the restaurant and other costumers kids were playing with a ball with the employees kid wile there were other customers in line people getting pushed out of the way because the kids wanted to play and the employees is was climbing on the tables and nothing was done about this. I really want to like this place and the only positive thing I have to say is that the food is good. Not great just good. But the customer service is awful! A bunch of teenage girls who absolutely do not care what anybody thinks, if there was customer service at least the hour long wait for food would be easier to just deal with. Tried to just order a shake and waited 15 mins without acknowledgment when there was only 1 other customer. The place is dirty and gross. If someone just cleaned it it would be easy to overlook the outdated stuff. The girls were cussing and yelling and overheard them saying how the business has broke its daily record every day for months now and the owner is just raking in the money. That's great most people must not mind the wait or dirtiness but if you are the owner and making hand over fist money might consider investing it back in the business hire some people who actually care and will provide customer service and clean up the place! I would say the Frosty Mill has average to slightly above average hamburgers. The meat was almost a fat ball instead being more flat shaped making it a little bit harder to handle. My wife had the fish sandwich and it was very good. She had the special caramel swirled ice cream cone that was very good and I had a chocolate shake that was just like the "Frosty" except it was much thicker which I really liked. My reason for the 3 was I was not too sure about the cleanliness. We parked in the back and when we got out of our car one look at the roof almost made us get back in and leave. It really looks grungy and dirty and made us wonder if we really wanted to go inside. We did not check out the bathrooms nor did we notice the help do anything bad.
