Service was very slow and understaffed. Waitress that took our order got it all wrong. Food wasn't good. I had ordered the three cheese grilled cheese sandwich, and as I took one bite I was aware that it was missing the main ingredient: cheese. I opened up the two pieces of bread and found what appeared to be only a half a slice of cheese. For a grilled cheese sandwich, it had hardly any cheese on it, and the other two orders were wrong. This is my second visit to 48 degrees North, the last time was in 2024 and this visit was so much better in every aspect. The server was very pleasant and efficient. I was there at happy hour and had the fried pickles, they were perfectly crispy and the sauce was really good. The server doubled as bartender and she made me a nice sangria. For my entree I went with the MacnCheese Burger and It was good but the patty was a little dry but the MacnCheese and bacon made up for it. read more

Located onsite at the Red Lion Hotel, this spot has pleasant outdoor seating with umbrellas, offering half a view of the bay and pedestrian walkway, and half of the wharf. Breakfast and lunch are served on one side, dinner at The Compass Room on the other. Food quality is typical hotel restaurant fare, nothing remarkable. Daily happy hour runs 4-6 pm. Our server was excellent, especially considering he had four tables and we were the only ones seated outside. What we ordered: -Oyster shooter ($2 HH): Far too large for a shooter, skip it. -Shrimp tacos (2 for $12 HH): No flavor. -Grilled cheese & tomato bisque ($14 HH): Nice crispy sourdough, bisque had a bitter aftertaste. -Fish & chips (regular price): Just okay, fries were stale. We paid cash, forgot to ask for receipt so didn't remember the exact price on 8/11/2025. Free public parking at the wharf across the street, plus free street parking. 2-14-26. Reservations made for dinner. 3-hour drive to Port Angeles. Great day of enjoying the Olympic side of the PNW. The worst experience of the entire weekend was 48 Degrees North. Only 2 employees in the restaurant and maybe one or two chefs/cooks. Extremely slow service and poor food quality once it finally arrived. Several other customers were complaining and about 1/2 the customers left without being served. We stuck it out because it was Valentines night and there would be no other place to accommodate 6 people. Not the fault of the employees who showed up to work, except the cooks who obviously didn't care about the food they put out, this place deserves to close. I wouldn't eat here again at gun point! The corporation or whoever owns this place should be ashamed. You guys suck! read more

The food was so good!! Waitress said they have a new Chef. We had the parm crusted halibut topped with mango salsa, crab and artichoke dip and steamer clams....the broth, OMG, the broth. We went there at around 7:30am. It was very quiet and chill, and the food was amazing (we ordered to-go so we could catch the ferry and I'm sure it's even better fresh). The service was wonderful and they even let us fill up our water bottles there before heading out. we ended up tipping our waitress $30 (which was the price of our meal for two people so extra points for affordability) I will 100% be recommending this place and returning in the future. read more

We came in for a late breakfast and were told that we could choose our seat. There is a lovely model sailing vessel in the lobby that my child adored and it created all kinds of excitement and history questions to answer! There were oldies playing over speakers at a pleasant level and the patron noise was minimal, however if the restaurant were full I would expect a decent amount of hum as there are multiple tables available My child and I both ordered an all American breakfast. One regular and one kids sized. The food arrived quickly and the home potatoes were very hot and tasty. The bacon was of decent quality and warm. The scrambled eggs were warm and filling. The wheat toast was just approaching lightly dark. Although dark isn't my first choice, it was still tasty and well buttered. I hadn't realized we had come in a half hour before they closed at 11. (They close for lunch and then they open back up at 4pm for dinner service.) Our late arrival didn't change the level of service we received, which is very admirable. Having worked in restaurant's before, I make it a rule to try not to eat anywhere the last hour they are open. But I am pleasantly surprised when I get good service from the restaurants where I inadvertently break that rule. All and all a good breakfast and my child said: "Let's come eat here again next time we eat downtown." That's the best compliment he gives about eating out. read more

Yuck, don't eat here. We're staying at the Red Lion and this place is attached to it. I didn't feel up to going out to dinner so my bf went and came back so disappointed and nothing but complaints about the lousy service, super long wait and garbage pasta he was served. He said that only the shrimp was edible. The crab cakes he brought back were fine but a bit too spicy for me. I could only eat one which caused a bit of acid reflux. So after last night, we won't be giving this place our business for breakfast. Sit down breakfast in take away timing! Bright and early, with no other options, my expectations were low, BUT.... Easter morning they were open and ready for business. Went here for the first time with family while we were in town. It was okay. Not great, not bad. Just okay. The crab cakes were actually really good, and the Mac and cheese was delicious. But the fish and chips were really weird and disappointing. The breading was more akin to chicken strips, and tasted really bizarre. The fries weren't anything special. I paid 30 (including tip that they included) for a meal that was completely inedible. I don't mean in taste, taste was actually good, the actual food was inedible. It was so tough it couldn't be chewed. the place was not busy, and it took longer then expected to get my food, but that was fine. The staff seemed friendly enough. My friend already had their food (he got there before me), and his was pretty basic breakfast food, so, kind of hard to screw up, he said it was good, but nothing to write home about. Anyway, I was so excited, I rarely eat out, and I knew what i wanted. Chicken fried steak!!! I love CFS in all its forms, I don't care if it that frozen crap from Walmart, I LOVE CFS, and especially if its at a diner. It arrives, and it looks perfect. A lot of food, I am actually looking forward to having leftovers. I start eating my hashbrowns and eggs (get the home fries, this was my first mistake) I bite in, and there is nothing technically wrong with them, but the prep they used to cook with was really the prevailing taste, its all i can taste, even with ketchup and pepper. Ok, well, no biggie, i have this beautiful CFS to dig in to. Big cut, mmmmmm, flavor bomb, everything i was hoping for. then chunk...clunk...what. I leterally can't chew it. It is not just tough it is like I am chewing gristle, i chew and chew, seriously, if i had had a paper napkin i would have spit it out, but just the cloth one, and no servers in site, friend, find it hilarious. So, i just swallow it, and know i am going to pay for it later. So, i try a much smaller 2nd bite from a different side, same thing. It is inedible. the waitress finally comes by, and seeing that there is still ALL of my food still on the plate, she asks if i want a to go box, and i told her no, it is not edible, and her response was huh, we pound it ourselves, and WALKED AWAY! No offer to make me something else, nothing. while she is away, other 'friends' show up. I say don't get the CFS, bummer, orders something else, a different server hears me, and says, what happened, i told her, and she said huh, weird, it is one of our most popular dishes and walks away. So, guess what. They bring the bill, I looked at her, but did not want to embrass my friends, or appear to be a karen, really? It wasn't edible, she said, it was what you ordered, or something along that lines, then goes away for about 5 mins, i think oh, she is at least going to knock something off, nope, comes back with the reciept for me to sign and includes a very generous tip. So i got the honor of paying $30 for a meal i couldn't eat, and tip a server, who kind, did not make any effort to make it right . Yes, I should have stood my ground harder, but I am not that person. I was there for work, and while friendly with the people I was with, was not about to make a scene. It seems to me as soon as i said it was inedible, customer service should have kicked in, would you like another, would you like me to make you something else. DON'T GO HERE. Now, everyone else had satisfactory meals. Nothing spectacular, but I actually ended up eating my friends unwanted home fries and again, paid for the honor. So, yes, I should have been more forthright, but then I am a "karen" or mean, what happened to customer service, what happened to wanting to make sure someone has a positive experience. No wonder people wander around yelling all the time, it is the only way to be heard. So me being a nice person, means i get to pay for something i didn't receive. noted. I will be in PA a LOT over this next year, and I don't care if everyone is going to this location, I will not give them another penny ever. If you are in town for lunch, go the rail. He lacked customer service skills and the chef was giving him instructions from the kitchen window on how to better serve the customers. But the food made up for it. Great view of the harbor adds to the flare of a coastal diner (think it is an old Denny's) but overall charming and clean. Give them a shot. read more

For several years we made the half-day drive to Port Angeles, to enjoy a great Thanksgiving Day dinner. We'd reserve a table next to the window, and stuff ourselves with all sorts of delectable Thanksgiving wonderfulness while watching the sun set over the water. Sadly, yesterday's Thanksgiving (buffet style) dinner was a bitter disappointment. Although the wonderful sunsets were still there, the quality of the food was not. More than half of the buffet trays were empty (or very nearly empty), and those that actually had some food were cold and pretty tasteless. The dinner rolls tasted like day-old grocery store rolls, the pumpkin-squash soup had the consistency of cold, sticky oatmeal, and the heatlamp keeping the few remaining turkey slices warm was not up to the task. In fairness, the desserts (caramel pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheesecake) were outstanding, and just as good (or better) than in years past. This used to be a "hidden treasure" -- fantastic food matched with fantastic views. For years, we'd eagerly look forward to our sunset Thanksgiving feast overlooking the water. But sadly, those are just memories now. read more

I had the grilled wedge salad and whiskey BBQ wings tonight at 48 Degrees North. The bleu cheese and bacon on the salad were top notch. Wedge isn't my favorite format salad, but it was great. The wings avoided the cardinal sin of being dry. They were moist and the sauce was delicious. My mom said her Washington pear and apple salad was very good and she'd like to get it again. To be honest, it kind of felt like a four-star visit, but I don't want to penalize them for being busy and expensive in these times. Besides, while we were there, a patron started choking badly, and one of the waitresses came over to try to save him. She performed the Heimlich maneuver, but wasn't tall enough to get the proper leverage. She realized that was the problem and called out for anyone who was taller to help. One of the patrons at another table came over and Heimliched him several times and saved him. After the compassion with which he was treated, I'm definitely going to have to go with five stars. read more

My family and I tried to eat here recently as we were staying at the Red Lion Hotel but no one made any effort to acknowledge or seat us after 10 minutes. Stayed at the Red Lion hotel, and this happened to be the closest restaurant. Looking at the menu, it looks wonderful. Taste wise- very lacking. Got 2 appetizer- calamari and spinach dip. The calamari was amazing and the only thing we enjoyed. The spinach dip was less than edible. We got the bacon wrapped chicken which was significantly over cooked. We also got the steak and crab- the steak was super undercooked and the crab did not taste like real crab. I do not recommend the food and the wait time to receive our food was over 40 min even with the restaurant being completely empty. The two ladies that worked at the restaurant were super sweet and saw that we barely touched our food. They were able to comp some of the meal, which was very nice since we left the restaurant starving. read more

Using hand gestures to flag down staff is necessary. The food was on the whole spectacular and the crab cakes were a highlight. I would definately eat here again. read more

I've been looking forward to trying this place since they've rebranded, but last night was the first chance we had. We approached the restaurant, and we're kind of dismayed to see zero people sitting in the dining room. If there's one thing, that's a warning to not eat somewhere, it's zero people in the dining room! However, we had a performance to attend at 7:30, and didn't have time to find another spot, so we persevered. It turns out that the restaurant was a little on the slow side- totally to be expected on a Tuesday in winter in Port Angeles. So they were seating everyone in the bar. We placed our orders salad for me and fish and chips for hubby. Fish and chips came with a side of asparagus, which I thought was nice, but husband didn't have any comments about. The salad was disappointing. Fresh, but with a bland dressing and ice, cold chicken and garlic bread. DHS review of the fish and chips was "it's OK" we ordered a deep fried pickle appetizer which came with a lot of pickles, but wasn't especially tasty. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was especially wonderful, either. I guess I would go back if nothing else in town that I liked was open. I would not be surprised if this restaurant showed up as one of Chef Gordon Ramsay's nightmare restaurants that he has to save. I ordered the French Dip sandwich, the roast beef was so charred that I snapped the meat in two. You should not be able to snap meat in two! I did not eat it. When I asked the waitress to take the dish away and remove it from the bill she got angry. Four of the people in my group had Fish and Chips the breading was so tough, it was inedible. Later when paying the bill, we had to ask that the French Dip sandwich be taken off the bill again. It was a bad experience and a terrible waste of money. read more
